  • ICloud/iTunes Account Locking out Active Directory Account [?]

    The facts:
I have been having this problem for the past four+ months.
My work email address is my iTunes account name
My work AD account gets logged out most evenings, sometimes within an hour of leaving work, sometimes late at night
I know when my account is logged out because my iPhone will ask for my Exchange password, or I cannot get into Outlook Web Access
When my iTunes/iCloud account password is the same as my Active Directory password this does not happen. When this was the case earlier this year I went 90 days without a lockout. The day after my password expired and I changed my password - locked out again
Exchange recognizes two mobile devices, my iPad2 and my iPhone 4, as mobile ActiveSync clients
I have reset both of these devices, updated to the latest iOS and reinstalled and reconfigured my apps
This occurs even when neither of these devices has an active ActiveSync account set up to use my work Exchange server
The keyrings (Mac) and Credential Managers (PC) of all my home machines have been sanitized
Mail (Mac) and Outlook are not configured on my home machines, and they are not affiliated with the work domain in any way
From these facts it seems to me that the issue is:
There exists a machine attempting to reach my Exchange account using a password I have used in the past
If it is a computer that I have possession of, it must be an iDevice, because this behavior has still occurred when all others have been powered off
If it is an iDevice under my control then it is something in iCloud/iTunes, because it does not depend on having the Exchange account configured on either iDevice and those are the only applications with knowledge of my work email address
    So,
If it is my iCloud/iTunes account then WHY in the name of all that is sacred is it hitting my work Exchange server and locking out my account?
I can think of no other -possible- devices or online services that have both that password, and knowledge of that email address. I remotely wiped an old phone that might have had the email account configured.
    Help?

I would very much like to hear from someone at Apple regarding this as I'm having a very similar if not the exact same issue.

  • Using iPads @ configurator in school with school AND personal iTunes accounts

    Hi all,
My kids school has introduced a managed ipad program which includes most parents purchasing the iPads but still having them managed by the school.
As we own these devices the kids take them home every day
iPads are ipad 3 and above
The school has setup configurator for mass deployments/ updates etc. and have the one iTunes account for all using vpp
With the initial deployment we were able to install our own personal apps using our own personal iTunes account to install and update ourselves.
There was no expectation that the school would manage these personally acquired accounts.
In the last week the school has removed the App Store front the iPads effectively removing any ability we have to install our own personal apps.
I have spoken with them and their stance is that it is too hard to manage updates because occasionally the iPads come back to the school logged in with the personal iTunes account
Can anyone out there please share any experience/solution that they may have which will allow the iPads to be managed through configurator whilst still allowing us to install our personal apps?
The school have said they will return our rights if a solution can be found.
I am very surprised that this is not possible and seek the assistance of the community.
    I am based in Australia
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Rob,
If the school is using Apple Configurator and have set the iPads to "Supervised" mode, it will prevent anyone from using their personal computers and iTunes to install apps or copy other data to/from the iPads to the personal computer. If the school has restricted the App Store on the iPad with a configuration profile, then they've made it impossible for you as a parent to install apps. (I'm surprised they did this being that these are personally owned iPads!)
In our school district, we are set up with a "Layered Ownership" model that allow us to buy and install apps that were purchased by the district, as well as allow the kids to do the same with their own personal Apple IDs. We don't have the App Store locked down on the iPads. The kids or parents can log in to the App Store on the iPads and install whatever they want. Even if they are logged in with their own personal Apple ID, we can still install apps that we as a district purchase using an MDM.
All of the app updates that we do for the apps that we have purchased are done though an MDM (mobile device management) server. There are many MDMs out there and perhaps your kid's school district could look in to using an MDM to manage their app distribution. There are a few different ways that MDMs have to distribute apps so your kid's school would want to talk to an MDM provider to see how they can help in your situation. We've been using an MDM in our school district for a year now and its been working great.
Here's a list of MDMs that you could send to your kid's school:

Hope this helps. Good luck to you!

  • Have a company based itunes account, trying to share itunes on bank owned devices. can't get all devices to keep our shared password on them without requesting user to enter password (which i am not giving them)

i am an IT manager for a bank.  we have several company owned iphones. WE have also implemented a mobile device management system to manage our iphones.
We setup acompany based itunes account, trying to share itunes on bank owned devices.  This way i can add bank approved apps to the devices through our itunes account and push out to the iphones, and no one can download any other non bank approved apps.
it has been working ok. but recently i had one user who came in.  He went to enter in his itunes account on the phone and didn't work. So then came back and my staff and myself have (as much as we can see) removed his email account itunes login from all sections in settings. and entered in our itunes account information, but when you go to the app store, and hit upgrade, it still shows his email account for itunes.  I feel like i can't get all devices to keep our shared password on them without requesting user to enter password (which i am not giving them)
How can i troubleshoot his device. i tried changing password 5 times today, rebooted device, and no change.
    Jenn McGlynn

i have an MDM application, and i push out the apps i want them to have with our IT apple id account. for some reason when two approved apps needed updating last week, they prompted him for our password. (which i told him to bring phone in and i would enter password).
but somehow he went to try to enter his personal to make it work (don't know why)
somewhere it's keeping his personal email. i went into itunes/apps and our apple id is in there.
there is nothing in icloud b/c we do not allow icloud, so that's clear.

  • Hacked/unauthorized use of my iTunes account! PLEASE HELP!

Within a short period of time on November 26th, my iTunes account was hacked by an unknown person that authorized my iTunes account on their computer and then they made several unauthorized purchases that I did not know anything about.
There are a total of 7 (seven) transactions that total $266.66--all seven transactions were made/purchased by an unknown person who hacked into my account.
All seven transactions were charged to my PayPal account.
I had authorized my iTunes account on two computers: my main home computer and my laptop. When I first logged into my iTunes account after finding out of this unauthorized use, I saw that that number of authorized computers was listed as 3 and there were 149 downloads that still hadn't been downloaded.
So, I'm being charged $266.66 through PayPal via my checking account for 7 transactions that I did not authorize or even know about.
I spoke online through the chat option on iTunes Support with three people: Jessie, Emily and Ray. Emily told me that iTunes cannot do anything and that I needed to contact PayPal. Emily cancelled out all the private data and Computer Authorizations on my account and advised me to change my password. She also gave me a claim number.
After I chatted with Emily I noticed the 149 downloads on my iTunes account that had not been downloaded. I got back on iTunes Support Chat online and talked to Ray. He verified that most of the unauthorized downloads were never even downloaded--the person who hacked into my account didn't even use all of the programs they "purchased"!
Ray cleared the unused downloads (there were 149 of them) and told me that since almost all of the downloads were never downloaded/used, that would show in my favor in making a claim that these iTunes transactions were fraudulent. He then advised me to contact both PayPal and my bank.
I contacted PayPal who would not do anything, I contacted my bank and filed a claim that the charges were NOT authorized by me. They credited the $266.66 back to me BUT NOW my PayPal account is NEGATIVE for the $266.66
My bank credited my checking account, but now I'm in the red with PayPal. PayPal's fraud/security department contacted iTunes about the fraudulent charges and iTunes DENIED PAYPAL'S CLAIM saying that the charges are not fraudulent!
I spoke to PayPal on the phone today for 45 minutes and they told me that since the charges for the seven unauthorized transactions were initiated by iTunes that iTunes needs to refund the charges in order for my PayPal account to be resolved.
I am stunned, shocked and amazed that there is no customer telephone support for iTunes and issues like this.
In my desperation to try and resolve this issue, I called Apple Technical Support and spoke on the phone with an agent named Adam and explained my problem to him.
He documented everything, gave me a case number, and suggested I e-mail iTunes and post here.
I have e-mailed iTunes and not gotten a reply.
I really need some help with this issue. I am an unemployed stay-at-home dad and this negative $266.66 has put me in the red quite terribly. Several of my monthly bills will not be paid this month because of this.
I *did not* make these purchases and I need some advice and/or help in trying to figure out how I can get this resolved.
The people with iTunes/Apple have more than enough evidence that my account was hacked/breached/used without my knowledge. With the unused downloads they cancelled, the added computer authorization, and my contact online via chat, they have more than enough evidence on their end to see that I have been a victim of fraud.
Can anyone offer me any advice on what to do? I would appreciate it more than anything.
Thank you SO much in advance,
    Kev J.B.
Please contact me as soon as you possibly can, I would appreciate it very much.

What an awful position you've been placed in. If I were in your shoes, I would wait for my monthly credit card statement to arrive and then go into your bank and state that you did not authorise that specific transaction and you want it looked into. I've had two unauthorised transactions on my credit card (not with iTunes though), and I only noticed them once my monthly credit card statement arrived. I immediately rang my bank and I was told that it would be best if I went in person together with my statement, so they could lodge a claim. After several months the problem was resolved and I was credited back the amount. Both unauthorised transactions were by large well known company names and at first I thought that I stood no chance whatsoever in getting my money back or even proving that I didn't authorise both the transactions (two different transaction and not at the same time). Finally, I was informed that the other parties were not able to prove or show proof of me authorising the transactions and the matter was resolved. All you can do is try and keep trying until you get results. All the best and I hope this puts you at ease a touch. Paypal, right now your not being much of a pal, you need to get your act together and work out what has happened! Your service is suppose to make transactions through you secure, find out what's happened and fix it!

  • I have updated to a new windows computer, and after transfering itunes library via iphone, the app section of itunes is locked and I cannot access it. How can I fix this?

I have updated to a new windows 7 computer, and after transfering my itunes library via iphone, itunes has locked me out of the app section of my phone. I can not add or remove apps using itunes. Is there a way to fix this? I have authorized, deauthorized, restarted, rebooted, and reset both my computer and iphone. Anyone got any ideas?? Thank you!

The safest way to do this would be to copy your itunes library to an external drive. For the purposes of this excersize the new Laptop would be the external drive
    Here is the support article

Then you could erase the iPhone and resync it without losing any content.
If this option is not open to you then this article contains ways to get your content off your iPod

  • I have been locked out of my iTunes account. How do I unlock it?

Upon purchasing an album on iTunes, security questions were asked. I could not remember one of the questions and tried multiple times to get it right. I never did. Then, I was locked out of my iTunes account and cannot purchase anything. I remember the answer to the question now but it won't let me try to answer it anymore.

  • HT1766 My daughter locked herself out of her phone cannot remember the advanced password setting, we share an Itunes account and both recently joined the cloud, if she resets her phone all her information will be gone, will it affect the data on my phone

My daughter locked herself out of her phone cannot remember the advanced password setting, we share an Itunes account and both recently joined the cloud, if she resets her phone all her information will be gone, will it affect the data on my phone as well

No, when resetting an iPhone it resets the actual data contained within the phone, nothing on your iCloud will be affected. It is a good idea to use seperate iClouda and iTunes accounts then you can each create your own backups regularly without your daughters backup overwriting yours or vice versa.

  • Broke my 5c.  Tech supt has 5c/5s left by unk emp  locked 2 his itunes account. They don't know how 2 unlock them from his itunes acct.  I can have the phone if I found out how.  Anyone know? Must be legal method!

Hard to write is limited space.  But tech support has two phones...and iPhone 5c and 5S, left by a former employee.  Both are still tied to his itunes at email r********@yahoo.com.  They don't the who the employee is.  When they try to restore them to defaults, itunes tells them that the phone is linked to an itunes account.  How can we get the phones wipes so that the company can reassign them.  Assigning at least one of them to me?!!!  (Coulld fit into 5c or 5s since there is one of each)

There are two levels of locking:
    1.  A 4-digit passcode that is entered to access the iPhone.  This can be removed by connecting to a computer running iTunes by way of the recovery mode as described in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212 this simply erases the content and settings so it is accessible.
    2.  Find My Phone has been turned on in Settings > iCloud using the owners Apple ID and password.  This sets the Activation Lock and cannot be bypassed.  the owner's Apple ID and password must be entered to release the lock, or, the owner must login to his/her iCloud account, go to Find My Phone, and remove the iPhone from the devices list.  After that is done the iPhone can be erased and restored.
Your situation sounds like number 2...the previous employee has installed an Apple ID and password and set the Activation Lock.  Your IT folks will not be able to bypass that.  At his point, the best hope is to take the iPhone to an Apple store genius bar with company proof of ownership, and see if they can help you.
