My Itunes can't see my music on my NAS /synology

My Itunes 10.1 cant see my music on my NAS. For a period it could only see videos on my nas and n o music, but now the NAS is completely gone. The NAS is functioning quite well on other platforms - but not the new version of Itunes.
Ahat is the problem and what can I do ?

Thanks for the clarification of check vs click. I guess once I saw the word "double" I stopped reading. I ended up "reloading" the drive to itunes. The interesting thing is that itunes isn't setting the location for the external drive. It is set for a folder under "my music" The actual songs aren't there, but the folders are there. When i put my external drive music to a new itunes library, i did so without copying the songs. So about 100 gig of music is in a folder that is really only about 300mb. I noticed before i restarted that the location was this folder. When i opened it, it was empty. After redoing everthing all of the songs are on the folder. I probably should have just changed it to go to the external drive like you suggested. Just for fun i changed the location to the external and bypassed that small folder. It worked great. It only took about 2 minutes to update, and it works great. I thought i had to use that stupid little folder. Thanks for all of your help!!

  • ITunes can't see my music on My Book external drive

    HI
Have just had to have the hard disk on my Powerbook G4 replaced and am now trying to restore contact between iTunes and my music library that lives on a My Book external drive (set up, formatted and updated over many months by this Powerbook).
I have changed the settings under iTunes Advanced Preferences to point to the music folder on the My Book, but the Library stays empty. I can access and play (using Finder) all the music files on the external drive, I just can't get iTunes to see them. Dragging and dropping doesn't work and though I've tried to Import the files the menu won't allow me to choose them (or the folder).
    Any thoughts? Please!!

I don't know if this will help, but I'd suggest you update to iTunes 6.0.5. That will run on 10.2.8 and is much more current and complete. You'd also want QuickTime 6.5.2. Worth considering, anyway.
Another thing to try would be to delete the iTunes library and library.xml files in your user -> Music -. iTunes folder to make sure you start clean and then try the Add To Library command again. You might want to use Disk Utility to verify the external drive, just to make sure that there aren't any drive errors (doubtful since you say that the tracks will play through Finder, but worth checking).
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes can't see my music

This is probably covered somewhere else in this forum, but I couldn't find my particular problem after searching several posts I tried solutions given for similar problems, but they haven't solved mine.
Like many users, I tried to move my itunes folder to a new drive. First, I copied the folder (which was crowding my c drive, hence my need to move it) and its contents to my desired location on the f drive using windows explorer. Next, I changed the name of the old folder, anticipating that itunes would not recognize the change in the path and ask me where the files were located (I have had success with other applications moving files in this manner). itunes was too clever for me, though. When I opened the application, and went to the "advanced" tab of edit>preferences, the music folder location reflected the changed directory name. No problem. I clicked the "change" button and directed itunes to my desired f drive location. I closed itunes and reopened it to make sure it continued to point to the new location, which it did. I tested it by playing some songs and looking at different albums. Everything seemed fine.
So...I closed itunes, deleted the itunes folder and files on the c drive, and re-opened itunes. It was blank. no songs, no albums, no artists, etc. I uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, hoping it would ask me where to look for my music. It didn't. I copied the files back to the original location. I have pointed itunes to both the original location and my desired location. Nothing. I have tried the "itunes" directory and the "itunes music" subdirectory on both the c and f drives. Nothing.
Obviously, I messed up the initial transfer. But I have all the original files. What do I have to do to get itunes to see them again?

+deleted the itunes folder and files on the c drive+
If I'm following what you did, this was the problem - when you deleted the itunes folder, you deleted the itunes database file:
    iTunesLibrary.ITL
Then when you re-opened iTunes, it made a brand spanking new blank library for you, because it couldn't find one and cannot run without it.

  • I've just signed up to iTunes Match as I have songs on my iPhone 4 which wont sync with iTunes as they are from CDs but I can't see my music in the cloud now. Anyone had the same problem and have an easy fix?

I've just signed up to iTunes Match as I have songs on my iPhone 4 which wont sync with iTunes as they are from CDs but I can't see my music in the cloud now. Anyone had the same problem and have an easy fix?

    What fixed it for me:
On your computer, open iTunes > My iPhone (or whatever name you gave your iPhone) > "Music" page
    Uncheck "Sync Music"
    Click "Sync" button (bottom right)
    Let it run and finish
Uncheck the box for every song, playlist, etc.
Click "Sync" button (bottom right) (This step may be unnecessary, but I did it and got the result I wanted.)
    Let it run and finish
Check the boxes for the music you want on your iPhone
    Click "Sync" button (bottom right)
    Let it run and finish
See if that doesn't work for you.  I tried a lot of things that did nothing, but this seems to have fixed it, and quickly.

  • HT4527 I tried home sharing between my desk top and my lap top. My desk top is the original computer with my iTunes library. On my lap top I can only see the music I have bought from iTunes. Is this all I should see? Not my entire library?

I have tried to install home sharing between my desk top and lap top. I can only see the music I have bought from iTunes on my lap top. Is this normal? I thought I would be able to see my entire library.

Yes I tried that. I finally turned off all home sharing settings, shut down my desktop and found them in my account settings in the store on the cloud. So at that point I just had it download everything. But I suspect that with the ipad somehow being on, the store was saying I had already received them? Regardless, my trip today whilst running errands, I was rocking out to vintage Police music! Thank you so much for responding.

I keep my laptop music on an external drive. Today the drive accidentally got disconnected and thus iTunes (latest version Win XP) does not recognize it. OK, simple I thought and so I went into ADVANCE and set the directory to:
    G:\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music
No change in iTunes not recognizing the tunes.
I have keep iTunes Music organized and Copy to iTumes checked.

  • When I open iTunes I can't see the music transferred from PC

I transferred my iTunes folder from PC to sd card to MAC computer following these steps: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527. The itunes library on my new Mac was completly empty so all I needed to do was dragged the empty folder to the desktop and my library from the sd card to the Music folder. I did this and I can see all the music is in the iTunes folder inside Music folder (on the Mac) but when I open iTunes I can't see any music. Itunes looks brand new. I don't want to click on "Find music files" because I tried that once and all the songs appeared on itunes but there were no playlists. I started the process all over so now I'm stuck with all the music in the folder but Itunes empty????

Thanks so much for your tip!!  I did that, but it says there's no files in the library.
Originaly in Itunes > preferences>advanced>under folder location I put in new path pointing to the Ex HD.  made a new folder for my son's library "Nick's Itunes Library". (Keep itunes media folder organized is checked).
    Clicked on change.
Then i was prompted ot move the exisiting files over which I did.  Went to File>Library>Organize Library>consolidate files>OK
I did all that.  I closed itunes, went to the external HD to verify all the files were there.  They were.  Went back into itunes on the mac mini HD and deleted the files one at a time.  I realize that this whole thing is not a deal breaker as it is all in iCloud.  And can be downloaded again if necessary.  But I want to know how to do this manually.
I just checked the external HD again. The files are there, Itunes isn't recognizing them is my guess.

The new itunes is slow and I can not see my musics anymore. How can I have my musics listed like they were before?

I have the same problem with new 11.0. Presentation of album data now seems scrambled in 'Album' screen. Instead of albums in alphabetical order with all album tracks I now get albums in the order of the Album Artist. Unless the album artist is EXACTLY the same, the tracks on any one album can be spread all over the screen (hopeless for compilations). Does anbody know how to get the Album screen to sort solely on the Album title?

Did you transfer the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder?
Or did you only transfer /Muisic/iTunes/iTunes media? folder?

  • Itunes can't find my music on an external drive

Hi...new user here. I have 75G of tunes on an external usb hard drive and just synced with my new classic. All went well. Have since disconnected/reconnected the HD a few times and now itunes can't "see" the HD. Have made sure the path is correct in itunes and actually re-set the path and set it again. The itunes message it get is "the song can not be played as the original file could not be found, do you want to locate it".
I can play a playlist from itunes but not the list of all tunes.

If you try to start iTunes with the external drive disconnected, iTunes will default back to the internal drive.
DO you know if you have your iTunes folder containing the library files on the internal drive or the external drive.
If the iTunes folder that you are using is on the internal drive then you need to set the location of the iTunes Music folder with Edit>>Preferences>>Advanced.
IF you had your iTunes folderon the external drive, hold down the shift key and start iTunes. Keep holding the shift key until you are prompted to choose a library. Navigate to the iTunes folder on the external drive and choose iTunes Library.itl.

  • ITunes can't see iPod Classic

I have an iPod Classic (120 GB)
It asked me to recovery with iTunes.
When I connected it to iTunes it asked me to download last FW version,
but in that moment I had no internet connection,
so I choose to use the resident version.
Then the iPod has been recovered and it works. But obviously was empty.
After that, the computer see the iPod as a driver,
    but iTunes can't see it.
I try with another pc, and is the same.
The tutorial on Apple web site, give a lot of information to try to restore iTunes,
but my problem is not on iTunes, is on iPod!
There is a way to force iPod to recovery mode? Now I have the internet connection again...
    Thank You for your help
    (and sorry for my english)

  • ITunes can't see aTV

I just connected an appleTV to a large corporate network, wired ethernet, with manual fixed IP. It connected to the internet and is happy. On my office PC, the appleTV does not show up as a device in iTunes. I can ping the IP address of the appleTV from the PC. How can I sync this computer to the appleTV if iTunes can't see it?

it appears that once I'm synced then I can't stream from any other computers, which is contrary to what Apple claims.Streaming is selected from the TV device so the question becomes, "Does TV see the Named Music Libraries for each and every one of the computers whose iTunes is active?" Don't have a second device to test this so I would be interested in hearing what you see. If computers/libraries are visible/selectable, would assume the removal of the devise from the other lists signifies they are not "synced" (nor able to be synced without reinitializing the "sync" procedure from the TV) and the remaining "device" listed provides "local" feedback that this iTunes library is currently the one and only one synced to the TV device.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

You can redownlod iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
For other music you will have to get it from where yo originally obtained it.
