My itunes freezes/ipod wont sync/scan and fix

OK, I think I have a bunch of issues that many people are having (except my problems seems to be everything). Couple of nights ago, I hooked up my ipod as normal and then it synced but froze. I then unplugged the ipod from the itunes and then afterwards I hit the scan and fix button. Thats the story, now heres the breakdown of things I did to try to repair it/problems Im facing.
1. When I hook up my ipod, the computer (windows 7) sees it and always has the scan and fix problem box pop up.
2. I have reformatted my ipod (on another computer and even did it once on my computer) still has problems.
3. When I connect my ipod to the itunes, it freezes it and WILL NOT X out or close after ctlaltdlt. I have to turn the comp off with the power (it wont even restart if I use the restart button)
4. I have done the chkdsk thing, my ipod seems fine
5. I have done the no automatic sync, nothing happens (except my itunes freezes)
6. Ive downloaded numerous things that seemed to help other out with the ipod sync/itunes freezing issues. No solution.
7. I disable my USB ports, that didnt help.
8. While in disk mode, the scan and fix pops up. Nothing happens when I connect my ipod to the computer without it (it wont even charge)
9. Ive hooked up my ipod to another computer and it seemed to work perfectly fine
10. i have installed, uninstalled, over and over and that has not helped either
please tell me you have a solution and if not, atleast tell me if i choose to gfet another ipod, it will not cause the same problems

I have a 160gig classic that I got for christmas but I've been having the scan and fix problem for some time now maybe since March. July 22nd I updated my iTunes and when I tried to manually add an album to my ipod iTunes froze and I had to ctrlatldel to close it. The end result was me losing about 60gbs of music, movies, and podcasts. Before then I've never had any problems with iTunes freezing EVER. After that everytime I plugged my iPod in iTunes froze until finally I got the chance to restore my iPod. The only problem now is everytime I try to sync I get    -50, -60 and -69 errors all on different files. I'm convinced its either the iPod or the iTunes update or both. help please before I die from no music

  • Itunes 9.0 wont sync facebook and other apps

i just downloaded itunes 9.0 and for soem reason it wont allow several apps to syn to my itouch. one of which is facebook. it syncs over most of my apps but for some reason it wont sync facebook. I check the box for the sync, then sync the itouch, it will say facegook is being installed, but at the end of the sync, it automatically "unchecks" the box for facebook and the app in never sync'd over. it happens will about 7 other apps. any ideas??

I have the exact thing going on. DLd itunes 9 this morning and have spent the last two hours going blind reading forums. I guess it's something to do with individual apps. After completely removing the .ipa for each problem app, I tried re-downloading from both itunes(didn't work) and from the App Store via my itouch then transfering back into the itunes library. Nothing worked.
What's funny is they all list in the itunes library fine, and will even attempt to sync but the sync lasts about one second, then unchecks the problem apps as if I never really checked them. Here are my problem apps:

  • Vista prompts "Do you want to scan and fix (iPod Name)"

My wife has a new T61 ThinkPad running Vista pro. Previously we connected her iPod to an XP desktop. With this new laptop it regularly prompts with a message "Do you want to scan and fix" the connected iPod, with the options to "Scan and fix (recommended)" or to "Continue without scanning". I don't want to have Vista do anything with the iPod other than work with iTunes.
Any ideas as to what is causing this message and how to stop it from appearing?

Is it iTunes or Windows itself that prompts you to scan the hard drive of your iPod?
If its Windows, then I'd ignore it. I had a similar problem after moving my iPod from XP to Vista (and my other MP3 player that's not made by Apple) and the problem is Vista itself and it's rather annoying ability to want to check everything. I scanned the iPod using the scan and fix Vista offered and it did nothing but mess up my iPod to the extent that I had to restore it and re-load all my music onto it (it also happened to my non-Apple MP3 player). I think it happens because Vista recognises the iPod as a hard-drive but due to some driver problems actually thinks that it is a corrupted hard-drive rather than an iPod and then it offers to scan and fix it (when it doesn't need fixing). So long as the iPod syncs with iTunes then I'd ignore it. The solution? To be honest I think short of using another Operating System you're going to be stuck with Vista and all the problems it has to offer. It's the reason why people are demanding new computers come pre-loaded with Windows XP even now despite Vista being out for over a year!

  • Ipod Classic 160gb keeps getting asked to scan and fix, then freezes

Ipod 160gb classic says that there's an error and would I like to scan and fix it.  Either response freezes the message and Itunes, and when reopened won't show my ipod.  I've gone into Computer, then right clicked my ipod, choosing properties, then tools, then checked the drive for errors.  I've then clicked "automaticlly fix file system errors", and "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" to see it freeze again with either selected.  My ipod shows no music, but the memory is still used up.  I can't get it on itunes to delte or add any songs.  What do I do?

Your iPod filesystem is corrupted, so all your music is in the Others segment, but most of the time, Windows, can't successfully move/ remap the bad cluster. (timeouts?)
Do the iPod disk diagnostic on your iPod, as in this excellent earlier post by tt2.
It wont fix your problem, but help us in troubleshooting.

  • Windows Vista, Itunes 10.7, ipod Classic, scan and fix message - why?

I am trying to connect my wife's Ipod Classic to our Windows Vista computer.  I get a Scan and Fix Message for the Ipod from Windows.  I don't let it scan and click continue.  Itunes is frozen and won't recognize the ipod.  This has happened since upgrading to Itunes 10.7.  Also Itunes is choppy in playing all video content since upgrading to Itunes 10.7.
I have checked system requirements and driver upgrades.  So far I have no fix.  One site recommended turning off WiFi sync for all devices in Itunes.  But of course the device must be connected, and mine won't connect.  All my itunes video is languishing.  :-(

Wi-Fi sync won't apply since you have an iPod Classic and it doesn't contain any Wi-Fi hardware.
To get rid of the Scan and Fix error, see this page: http://www.yourlocaltech.com/resolve-vista-scan-and-fix-error-when-plugging-in-i pod-or-other-devices/

  • Ipod does not appear in itunes after windows scan and fix

Two days ago, I restored my Ipod classic using Itunes 9.2.0.61. After restoration my Ipod started freezing Itunes and Vista. At a point, I saw a blue screen and my computer forced a shutdown. When it rebooted, Vista kept asking to automatically "scan and fix" problems on my Ipod. Thinking that would solve the "freeze" problem, I stupidly went ahead to have Vista scan and fix my Ipod. Now the freeze problem is gone, but my Ipod does not appear in Itunes. I have tried the five Rs from Apple, but that has not helped. Anyone with a solution?

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
    4. Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job.
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.

This can happen if you remove the disk/device before all files have been written to it.' Then it asks if I want to 'scan and fix (recommended) or continue without scanning. Hello kidmango,
I am going to have to agree with planb77. Look into other drivers in your computer causing the issue, not just the nano's drivers.
It is possible that security software is the culprit. Use this:
    iTunes: Troubleshooting security software issues
You may have to restore your computer to a previous point. From before the issue started. Contact computer manufacture or Windows for steps, or do a search with a search engine.
I would test the ipod on a known good computer to see if its the ipod is the issue. My gut says no. You can set a reservation at an Apple Retail Store. Apple.com/retail .You can also test a known good ipod on your computer.
    Hope this helps.

  • My ipod wont sync all my music/files, comes up with an error now

    HI there!
My ipod was working fine over a week ago and now it wont work!
I try to sync it and it says it has synced it but only puts on about 200 songs out of 2000- not even that, before it says unknown error and then wipes it all off,and wont sync! someone please help! It isnt the memory as I have 160g!
I have restored it many times, uninstalled and installed itunes a few times too, and nothing
Also when i plug my ipod in it comes up on my laptop screen that i should scan and fix my ipod as files on there that arent right?!
It's very frustrating and Im hoping someone can help me soon,
    Kelly

My ipod was working fine over a week ago and now it wont work!
Let's start with the basic: What changed between the last time it worked and nopw? Did you update your iTunes to a newer version? Plug in any new USB devices? Change the port to which you connect your iPod? Add any new devices that changed drive letters? Apply any patches? Drop or expose the iPod to temperature extremes?
If we know what changed, we can start to figure out how that change caused this problem.
P.S.: If your answer to "what changed" is what I think it is (i.e., you updated iTunes), then reading this summary post of mine may give you a clue as to the problem.

  • WINDOWS wants to scan and fix IPOD Shuffle

My Shuffle worked flawlessly on my old laptop running Windows XP but now on my new laptop running Vista, a window keeps coming up asking me if I want to scan and fix my IPOD. I click continue without scanning and the IPOD usually works OK with Itunes but that window comes up everytime I sync the IPOD with Itunes.
Occasionally, the IPOD will have trouble syncing with Itunes. I restored the unit but that didn't eliminate the problem. I haven't reset the unit yet - not sure if that will help given that a full restore didn't help....
I believe that WINDOWS may think that the IPOD is a USB drive rather than a IPOD.....
    Ideas?

the fix here worked for me: http://www.futureofrealestatetechnology.com/general-real-estate-technology/resol ve-vista-scan-and-fix-error-when-plugging-in-ipod-or-other-devices/comment-page- 2/
in short open a command prompt and type "chkdsk g: /f"
replace the "g:" with the drive letter of your ipod.
    this worked for me.

  • What will happen if i let windows 7 scan and fix my ipod?

Everytime that i plug in my ipod into my laptop lately windows 7 wants to scan and fix it. I know not to unplug my ipod without waiting for it to discconnect first so i know that's not the problem.I have been using this ipod on this laptop since i bought my laptop a year and half ago. I just started having the promblem with windows 7 wanting to scan it almost a week ago.I also update my itunes whenever the newest ipod comes out. My ipod also works just fine. What could be wrong with my ipod that it wants to scan and fix it? If i allow it to scan and fix it will it delete all of my music?

Maybe there is a setting in Windows that will prevent it from doing the scan.  But it is possible that the iPod's storage has data corruption.
If there are songs on the iPod that are not in your iTunes library, you are taking a risk because iPods can become broken or lost (or need a Restore because of data corruption).  Doing a "scan and fix" now may or may not do any harm, but you are likely to lose that music eventually.  If you want info on off-loading songs from an iPod, you can post back.
If all of the songs on the iPod are in your iTunes library, you should have iTunes do a Restore.  The Restore button is on the iPod's Summary screen in iTunes.  That will erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings. You can then re-sync everything back on the iPod.
