My Itunes freezes or "not responding"

I recently got the ipod video 60GB and I uploaded multiple videos on my itunes. Before it was working fine. Now whenever i try to open it, the screen comes up then freezes almost immediately. I tried to reinstall it and did virusscans, and nothing. When I ctl alt dlt it to end application, it is "not responding". Is there something wrong with itunes or my computer. Please Help! Thank you in advance.

edit: never mind, I thought you were writing about your iPod freezing!
Can you play a video in QuickTime without iTunes?

  • Itunes Freezing, PC not responding, no internet windows not shutting ETC.

Problem with ITunes freezing up when you sync or not, can't use the internet or your home networking features, and windows not shutting down correctly or restarting: This is what I found and seemed to work for me. ITunes installs a service called Bonjour that basically is used for networking things like apple TV and remote speaker systems and other people on your home network to be able to use one main iTunes library for another pc (however you can not sync that content so its pretty much useless) unless you need it for apple TV or remote speakers. If you don't use those things then it is best to disable and stop bonjour from running at all. After you disable this service you will then have to delete the default gateway 0.0.0.0 that bonjour creates but doesn't delete, this is what is messing everything up. Seems that bonjour service opens this gateway over your routers gateway which seems to create all kinds of problems when there are two gateways. Sounds like one or two of the programs keeps looking for pc's or networks to connect to.

Here is how I fixed this problem in vista but should work the same for other windows operating systems:
You may have to get windows permission or get administrative permission for any of these steps click ok or yes for all.
    1. On your desktop right click on taskbar and click on task manager.
    2. When task manager comes up, at the top tabs find and click on services.
    3. Find bonjour service and highlight it.
    4. Down at the bottom to the right click on services another window will pop up.
    5. Find bonjour service highlight it.
    6. Right click and then click on properties another window will pop up.
    7. On the general tab in about the middle of the window you will see a (startup type) drop down menu, open that up and click disable.
    8. Below that you will see service status click the stop button.
    9. Click the apply button in the lower right corner and click OK.
    10. In the previous windows, the service window and task manager service tab window bonjour service should read disabled or stopped, but you might have to restart your PC to see this, DON'T DO THAT YET.
    11. Close all open windows click Start button and type cmd in the Start Search box.
    12. Right-click cmd.exe in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator (if you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation)
    13. At the command prompt, type the following command, route delete 0.0.0.0 and then press ENTER:
Just so we are clear this is the command: route delete 0.0.0.0
    14. Close the command prompt window and restart your pc and try ITunes and see what happens also just to be sure fallow steps 1 through 9 to see if bonjour was stopped and disabled from running. This should fix those issues, If not you may need a complete uninstall of all ITunes products and a clean install ( make sure you back up your libraries and all your files you use with ITunes before you do this) Here is a link to explain how to do this below.

  • Itunes 10 update on windows 7 makes it freeze and not respond

Ever since I updated my itunes to the newest version my itunes will freeze and not respond everytime I open it.
I use windows 7 and have not add-ons
    any help

    Many thanks.
That's consistent with an application (other than QuickTime itself) having dropped old QuickTime componentry in your system files.
So just in case we'll go looking for older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
If you have a 32-bit version of Windows, open the "System32" folder.
If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

I tookyour suggestion and SUCCESS!  I can now access the Itunes Store.  A simple fix, and thanks so much!!.
Below is the advice you forwarded:
I found a solution to my problem.
    > start menu
    > accessories,
    > right click on the command prompt icon and choose "run as administrator".
Once it opens, type in the following command...
    netsh winsock reset
    hit enter
You should get a message that the winsock reset successful and you will need to reboot your computer.
Reboot and when I reloaded itunes the store loaded fine.

  • Safari freezes and not respond, Chrome works great why?

I just upgraded to Yosemite, and Safari keeps freezing and not responding I have tried everything from removing aches, remove web history but keep freezing. On the other hand, Chrome works fantastic so needs to be something only related with Safari. Apple says Safari goes 6x faster than other web browser, well in my hands in can prepare my lunch and finish it before it opens one page, so 6x faster maybe in Cupertino because not in my laptop. Any suggestions of how to fix the Safari????

    Hi ...
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
    Click:  Remove All Website Data
No open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, try troubleshooting extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow all other plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.

  • Mac Pro wont software update and a lot of apps keep freezing/crashing/not responding

Mac Pro wont software update and a lot of apps keep freezing/crashing/not responding Im on OSX Lion and i have a Mac Pro 1.1 please help

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • ITunes 9.2 Not Responding

I recently updated my iTunes to 9.2 and iPod Touch to iOS4. Here is a list of instances where iTunes stops responding and freezes:
    - When I "Check For Available Downloads"
    - When I click on TV Shows menu option "Mark As Watched"
    - When I try to "Import" or "Share" library items from one computer to another over my personal network.
    - When I try to sync apps.
Right after I installed iTunes 9.2 it would freeze as soon as I opened it as it was loading "Genius" results. After I manually stopped it using task manager like 100 time it finally made it through the Genius stuff and stays open and running until I try to do one of these actions. Could someone please help me? I've uninstalled, reinstalled, restored, then reinstalled, ran repair, etc., etc. I am very frustrated at this point and ready to leave Apple altogether.

    Hi BlackNikes
I had exact same problem, but have now resolved it. If your problem is the same as mine your SyncServices folders have been corrupted while itunes was updated.
See my post or spyder683 post at https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6223064?start=60&tstart=0
I am running Mavericks 10.9.3 and updated itunes to 11.2.0 and then experienced problems with itunes crashing, 11.2.2 didn't resolve the problem. I found iTunes worked fine if all my other devices (iphone, ipad, ipod) were turned off, as soon as I powered any one of them up and itunes detected them over wifi or USB itunes then froze with the dreaded colored ball spinning.
In Mavericks 10.9.3 the SyncServices folder is not visible going into the normal library/Application support folder, your instructions below took me to a different area in the system, or at least made these folders visible. Following your instructions I was able to locate and delete both SyncService & SyncServices folders and I launched iTunes again while my devices were powered up and the issue has gone. Bliss!!!
    Many Thanks
    spyder683 wrote:
    Hi Culero,
The fix of deleting the SyncServices folder is for Mac systems. From your desktop / finder, click the "Go" menu at the top, then "Go to Folder ..." Paste this into the field: ~/Library/Application Support
The SyncServices folder should be in there. I had both a SyncService and a SyncServices folder. The second one should, when deleted, help with the problem you and I both had of iTunes freezing when an iOS device is plugged in.
    Hope this helps

  • Computer Freezes - Finder (not responding)

So I've tried as many fixes and solutions that I could find and nothing is correcting what's happening. Even after deleting my hard drive and doing a clean install of Mavericks from a usb drive. I can use the computer for maybe a 1/2 hour and then it completely freezes up and in Task Manager it says the Finder is not responding. I can work in Safe boot mode fine, which makes me thing its a hardware issue. But I've done a hardware test (restart, hold "D", do test) and it says there is no problems.
I heavily depend on my computer for work so this  very frustrating. Any help would be appreciated. Here is my latest Etrecheck file:

  • ITunes 7.7 Not responding

    Hi,
I've downloaded iTunes 7.7 today and it will not work at all. It is stuck on 'application not responding'. My iTunes library is located on an iomega external hard drive. To test if this was the reason for the error I ejected the hard drive and iTunes would then start up.
Obviously I want to access my music library on my hard drive, does anyone have any suggestions?
    Many thanks

Okay. I got my iphone 3G delivered yesterday, popped in the SIM and plugged it in to my MBP and up it pops in iTunes no problems at all, registered it okay and synced it okay, put on some music and a video oaky, played around with some settings re-synced it okay. Disconnected it once or twice and reconnected it and synced it okay. Anyway you get the picture, all was well, until I did two things with the iphone disconnected from the laptop. 1st I downloaded an app from the app store with the phone, the one that turns your iPhone into a light saber, yeah I know - but I got several minutes or amusement from it. 2nd, I created 4 ringtones using garageband and some music that I had got from CD then using garagebands share option I sent these 20sec clips to iTunes and they appeared in the ringtone folder.
Okay all okay so far, until I connect my phone again and iTunes won't respond with the iPhone connected. I deleted the iPhone app and the ringtones, it then says that the iPhone is not readable or writeable. At this stage I plug the iPhone into another mac and it pops up straight away in iTunes.
I download iTunes 7.7 again onto the MBP and re-install it, nothing changes. I then back up my music and trash iTunes completely off the MBP and re-install iTunes and BINGO it sees the iPhone no problem, I then spent another hour uploading my music back into iTunes again.
All is working okay now, but I'm at a loss as to explain what caused this in the first place, can anyone shed an light on this one for me.
    Many thanks.
