My iTunes has an artist duplicated, how do I fix this?

I can't figure out why only one artist is duplicated ALL the time, every time I sync my iPhone. When I delete the song (from the iPhone) the iTunes app will crash, but ultimately I can't figure this out on my own. Help, please?

Don't panic - this post is not as ghastly as it first appears.
No idea why deleting an artist should cause your iTunes app (on your phone) to crash, but duplicated artists are often as a result of spelling differences, simple typing errors or even capitalisation. These can difficult to spot, even in iTunes on the computer. In some cases, all songs by an artist will be grouped together correctly in your iTunes Library, but split on iPhones and iPods.
Since you have posted in the iTunes For Windows community, I assume that you have all the songs (by the artist) in the Library (on the computer). Therefore, in your iTunes Library, check each song by the artist for the differences I mentioned (spelling, typing errors and capital letters). In addition, look for spaces at the end of the artist's name. In the examples below, which are different to one another, the full stop at the end of the line simply indicates the end of the text. in other words, the text ends in the character before the full stop:
The Infinity Project.
Infinity Project.
The Inifinty Project.
Infinity Project, The.
The Infinity Project.
The Infinity Project .
Note the last two in particular. Number 5 has a space before the artist name, while number 6 has a space after the artist's name (before the full stop). This may be accepted in your iTunes Library, but cause confusion on your iPhone. And just look how easy it is to not notice this.
A simple method for correcting this is to decide which version you want to use (in this case, number 1 is the correct version) and copy and paste it into the Artist field for every song by "The Infinity Project". Hopefully, you use Sync to manage your iPhone, in which case allow a Sync of the iPhone with the Library aftre you have made the corrections, and that should fix the problem.
Look at the screenshots of my experiment:
Picture A:
In the shot above, I have highlighted the album "Mystical Experiences" and have the Multiple Items view of the album (notice it states Multiple Item Information at the top of the panel). Everything is correct and the artist name appears in the Artist box. But now look at the next screenshot:
Picture B:
Notice that in this shot, the Artist field is blank. Look at the song that is selected (grey highlight to the left of the Multiple Item Information panel). Can you see that Infinity in the the artist's name now has a lower case letter. But now look at this next shot, which appeared while I was creating these examples:
Picture C:
The Artist name appears three times in the Artists browser column, but they each appear to be identical. Now count the number of songs shown in picture B and picture C. (Don't worry, I'll do it - there are ten in picture B, but only nine in picture C.) Wow! What's going on? (By the way, iTunes will not let me select the third "version" of the Artist name. It's a rogue entry, caused by this test example.)
Well, if I check the one song listed under the second "version" of the Artist name, and put my typing cursor in the Artist field, look where the cursor (the straight line) is placed.
Picture D:
Believe it or not, there is an extra space after the t in "project", just like example 6 above. If I take out the space (and make the entry look like example number 1, above), look what happens:
Picture E:
There is now only one entry for the artist in the Column Browser, and the cursor at the end of the artist name is now immediately after the letter t.
You may also need to check for these differences under the Sorting field. The shot below shows the Sorting information for the album we've been looking at:
Picture F:
You may notice the the word "the" is missing. That's okay, if we sort by the I in Infinity, that causes the artist The Infinity Project to appear under I and not T. As long as all the songs have the same text, there is no problem.
Once you have made any changes, Sync your iPhone with your iTunes Library in order for the changes appear on the phone.

I'm trying to setup my new iphone and the Apple ID it asks for is my friends old Apple ID that she no longer has access to. How can I fix this so I can use my new phone? The first step asks for my iCloud info but then asks for my friends after I agree to the terms.

The iPhone is new, has never been used. When asked if I want to set it up as a new phone, restore from an iTunes backup, or my iCloud backup I selected iCloud. It then askes for me to sign in with my Apple ID, I then agree to the terms, then it asks for me to sign into my friends Apple ID. She and I have used each other's computers in the past so I assume this is where her information is coming from. The problem is she no longer had that email or Apple ID and has no way of gaining access to it and therefor I am unable to proceed.
I suppose my question is, how can I remove her information from mine so I can setup my new phone using iCloud. Also, I have already checked my Apple ID online and nowhere on my account is her information listed.

  • Upon syncing my iPhone and mac all of my ical and iPhone calendar events have duplicated. how can i fix this and avoid it in the future?

upon syncing my iPhone and mac all of my ical and iPhone calendar events have duplicated. how can i fix this and avoid it in the future?

    Greetings,
    Questions:
    1. What version of the Mac OS are you running (Apple > About this Mac)?
    2. What version of the iOS are you running (Settings > About)?
    3. Do you backup your computer (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427)?
--- If you don't regularly backup your computer, now is the time to start.
    4. Do you backup your iPhone (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766)?
Check the calendar list on the left hand side of iCal.  Is it that the individual events are duplicated or is it just that you have the same calendar listed more than once?  If its that you have more than 1 copy of each calendar, you can delete one of the duplicate calendars to eliminate the duplicates.
If you find that it is the individual events that are duplicated then there are 2 options:
    1. Restore your computer iCal database or iPhone from a backup made before the duplication occurred.
    2. Use a duplication removal program (or do it by hand) to remove the duplicates: http://www.nhoj.co.uk/icaldupedeleter/
If you have a backup made before the duplication occurred, reply back with what kind of backup you have and I'll suggest how to recover the calendars.
To avoid this issue in the future:
Keep regular backups.  They are your best defense against data anomalies which are a fact of life in computers (although hopefully rare).
Keep your computer and iPhone software fully up to date (Apple > Software Update / Settings > General > Software Update).
Make sure the date and time on your computer and iPhone are correct before you sync the two devices.
Make sure the cable connections between the two is solid and that the cable shows no signs of physical damage.
    Hope that information helps.

    Hi Hamish1P,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like an app you installed is not working. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

    Hi The Lad,
If you have "INSUFFICIENT" disk space, then you can try and change the install location while performing the installation of the desired product. I am not sure when the error message would pop up saying that the disk space is "INEFFICIENT". Could you please share a screen shot of the error message along with the system information.

Just confirming, when you have the trouble, the wifi icon is grayed-out or has all bars showing? I believe you are saying that is is grayed-out - not connected to your wireless router.
I have a Mini that started to lose connection to the Internet after the 10.7.3 update but still showed the wireless as connected. If I pinged the wireless router, I would get a quarter of the packets failing to return. The router was a Netgear that supported 802.11N connections. As a test, I set it to 802.11G (54MBps) maximum and the Mini worked fine for a week - no dropouts. And for the other devices that did support 802.11N, while there was a noticeable delay with downloads and pages loading, they still worked.
As another test, I changed the Netgear router to a Billion 802.11N model and the Mini has not had a problems since. (It is still using 802.11g). So it could be your router that is causing trouble for your Mac.
Have a look at some of the More Like This postings in the right column. There has been a number of Mac owners experiencing wifi connection issues and some very good suggestions as to how to resolve their issue.

  • Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable. How do I fix this?

Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable. How do I fix this?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Why is the ringtone i bought on iTunes not on my iPhone anymore, and greyed out in iTunes on the computer. and how do i fix this problem.

I recently bought some christmas ringtones. And i noticed after a day or so that the ringtone just disappeared. So i re bought it. That disappeared as well, so i bought another one.. well you see the pattern. But i sync'd my phone up to iTunes and they are on there, they are just greyed out with a circle of dots next to it. How do i fix this issue so i can have my ringtones, and songs, back onto my iPhone 6.
    Thanks !

There has been a issue with ringtones and apple knows about it and is working on fixing it.
Apple is advising customers not to repurchase ringtones and if you did, just give them a ring and they will refund you.
Until then don't purchase any more ringtones at least until the next update.
You can request a refund by going to the Account section within iTunes on a Mac or PC, or you can get help by chat, or contact Apple Care.
