My iTunes has deleted my music library- how do you fix?

I tried importing a disk into my iTunes library, and it asked me to name the file. So I did, but now my iTunes has that name displayed on the top and all my music and playlists are gone. I tried uninstalling and re-installing, but it didn't fix the issue. How do I revert back so I can have access to all my songs, videos, books, etc? HELP!!

Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl.
Given your iTunes windows is currently showing up with the wong name you will need to hold down shift as you start iTunes, then click the option to Choose a library and navigate to the correct file. Should all be good now, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

Might help to start by providing the exact wording of the message. What is provided above simply is not what iTunes is saying, no such message appears in iTunes.

What was the full wording of the error message? Usually there is also a number or additional information.
Try placing the iPod in Recovery Mode and then restore
Next try DFU mode and restore.

How do you fix distorted and scratched sounds? Even when I download new CD's straight out of the case, they skip. Help please.

Sounds like something is wrong with your CD drive.
Does your drive read data CDs or play music directly off of CDs without problems?
If yes, it might be iTunes - try uninstalling and then reinstalling.
If no, you can try a laser lens cleaning CD, or, at worst, replace the drive.

My itunes has scrambled my songs. How do I fix?

I was taking a video with my iPhone when it said that the video was too big and I needed to delete something. I chose to delete my music since I could just reenact it the next time I plugged into iTunes. I did so. and it never looked like it erased. Plugged it into my laptop and put my music back on. The album that I was currently listening to is now scrambled (i.e. the title of the song appears to be "America the Beautiful" but it actually plays the next song in the album, "Star Spangled Banner". Not all of the songs are screwed up but just a few... and some songs it appears to be there but when I chose it, iTunes goes on to the next song. HELP! I want my music back!
I've tried to strip off my music to just one artist and then add all the rest of my music but it seems to always keep my PURCHASED file which is where my favorite album is.

You may want to try erasing all the music off your phone, then sync it back on. To erase it all, go to Settings>General>Usage>Music, tap Edit (top right), then tap next to All Music. Then connect to iTunes and sync your music back.

If it's an old account which you'd updated with a new email address then try logging out of it on the iPad (and iPhone) by tapping on the id in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores on iOS 6) and then log back in and see if that 'refreshes' the account on the iPad (and iPhone). If you created a new account then any content that you purchased/downloaded via the old account will remain tied to that old account, and only that old account can download updates to its apps.

I suspect your library has been transformed from the old layout into the new one. See make a split library portable for details. The empty but for artwork folders you're seeing are likely to contain orphaned artwork and .ini files generated at some point by Windows Media Player. iTunes doesn't move these when it shuffles things around. Once you've made sure you can move the artist folders sideways or down into another folder, make sure nothing else has been affected, then remove.

About the iTunes library files
Your iTunes library files track the media you add to iTunes, how you've organized it, and other information such as playlists. By default, these two files are in your iTunes folder:

There is a way of getting your music back if you have purchased it - go to the itunes store, click "purchased" under the "quick links" on the right hand side of the page, near the top, and then it allows you to re-download anything that you have purchased under that apple id. Phew! Over 200 songs - I'm glad i found this out!

You must surely be able to add and subtract songs on specific playlist?

I fixed this issue (with help from tech support) and it involved several things.
After adding a song to iTunes, right-click on the song in iTunes and select "Update iTunes Match."
OR go to the iTunes menu-->Store-->Update iTunes Match.
Maybe that's the reason, it just hadn't updated to the cloud.
OR maybe it's not a high-enough bitrate file. This happens to me because most of my tunes are home-recorded.
Sometimes converting to .mp3 or Create AAC version might work. (You do this with a right-click in iTunes, and then you will want to remove the original file from iTunes.)
There is an iTunes Preferences setting, under General Preferences called Import Settings. Try setting it to AAC Encoder and iTunes Plus. That (I think) causes imports to be slightly better quality.

If you are running an OS of 5.0 or higher, you should be able to use the iCloud to sync both devices together & share music.
