My iTunes has seriously MESSED UP

Ok I changed my password on my apple account. I signed out of iTunes and tried to sign back in and it said specifically "this Apple ID has never been used in the iTunes Store  before please click ok to review your account information".  I did, and it sorta looked like I was making a new account but I entered all of my information and when it finally let me in, it forgot every past purchase I had made, and all of the money I previously had was gone. I signed out of iCloud and tried to sign back in and did the same thing forgetting my account until I got in on iTunes and everything on photo stream was gone. All of the things that don't need iCloud (but can be used on it) like contacts, music, and apps are still there, but I just don't know what has happened. And I've been asking about this for days and no one has really helped me.

You should not be able to create a new ID and use the email address that you were using with the old ID, or that was the impression that I was under. When you go to creat the "new" ID, you should get a message that the email address is already in use and you shouldn't be allowed to use that email address.
It sounds to me - and I know you feel the same way - that this is totally screwed up now. If it was me, I would contact iTunes Store support. I would try the appropriate email channel and if you don't get results quickly, I would call the 800 number and they will patch you through somehow. You should not be going through this ordeal.

I just don't think that you are going to be able to sort this out by yourself now and you will have to get Apple involved.

  • ITunes store seriously messed up

The iTunes webstore is seriously messed up. Searches for popular artists don't function properly, and the links to their pages and their albums don't work. Try a search for "Strunz & Farah", Grammy-nominated artists who've sold a million records. They have 16 albums, at least 13 of which are on iTunes, but the links are broken. Plus, there's no composer information. If simple searches such as this can't be accomplished, then I'm really wondering if Apple should hire Google to do this for them.

As Chris said, I mean pulled from the iTunes Music Store by the record company. And I don't know this for sure, I can only surmise, but it's a reasonable guess since it's most definitely not a database error, not with all sixteen albums all gone. And I did search individually; there are no albums by Strunz and Farah listed in the US iTunes Music Store any more. So again, I am guessing, but given that there's absolutely no reason for the iTMS to pull them on their own, it can only be at the insistence of the record company; it's clearly not a database error since all references now have been removed.

I am having the same problem now also. It happened after I updated my version. I have NEVER had this problem before as a windows user and have had iTunes for 5 years. So, I would have to say it is an Apple problem. I have not changed anything on my computer. I still have Internet Explorer and I have not even updated windows. The only thing I updated was iTunes. Now, I am not getting any response from Apple and if you call you have to pay for support. What a joke. An iPod costs $400 you would think that after paying that much you would at least get some type of help. This will now be the last time I ever by anything apple.

  • ITunes has installed but keeps giving error mess and it has to close

I just bought the new iPod touch 8GB and I connected the USB cord to it and my old version of iTunes said that I needed to upgrade to iTunes 9.0. It took me through the steps of downloading iTunes 9.0 and once it was done, I tried to open it up. I opened iTunes and all my songs were there but then an error message popped up and said "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for any inconvience". If I minimize the error message, I can play my songs but it will not pick up the ipod nor will it let me sync it because the error message keeps closing it. I have tried uninstalling iTunes and quicktime and I even let the computer update and shut it down and even did a system restore on my computer. Can someone PLEASE help me with this problem ASAP!

I've been experiencing the exact same thing since mid-Feb. Whether my iTouch is connected or not, iTunes loads then the message appears within 30 seconds that "iTunes has encountered an error and needs to close". I've uninstalled & reinstalled iTunes a couple of times, performed the "msconfig" & other tricks some I.T. pals have suggested but nothing works. Have searched message boards for ideas as to why this is happening or tips for dealing with this situation but have come up empty-handed. Like others, this mess began when I updated to the latest version of iTunes (9.0).....I'd reinstall the "old" version of iTunes but don't know where to find that info or whether that would be a good idea.
All I know right now is this never happened when I owned Sandisk MP3 players....I hate to think that buying the iTouch was just an expensive mistake on my part. Can anyone please help us solve this Windows error so that we can download, sync & access iTunes again??? Pretty please??? Thanks in advance....

  • Itunes has made a mess of my music

ok, i keep all my music on an external hard drive. i have changed the location of my music to a folder on the drive in preferences.
after loading all the music to the drive, 244gb, i conected to itunes and itunes started 'organising' my music. now i have lots of extra folders, duplicates and a total mess of my music.
what is even more anoying is that it looks great from itunes point of view but when i want to use it with another device etc using a windows explorer view it's a bloody mess with albums and artists now spread over several folders where they were all organised.
so here is the question.....is there a piece of software that will sort all my music back to how it was, moving all the songs back into their album/artist locations.
i have been looking and have seen some but they dont seem to do what i want.
    can anyone help please???

Once you have let iTunes restructure things there isn't really any undo. iTunes will group tracks by the same Album Artist, falling back to Artist if Album Artist is blank. This can trigger it into using multiple folders for a single album. Generally fixing things within iTunes will also resolve the underlying storage in Explorer. See my article on Grouping tracks into albums for tips.
If WMP ever had access to your files then there are bound to artwork files that iTunes has left behind as it has shuffled things about. See CleanDeadArt for a script to tidy up.
If, like me, you are really picky about your file & folder organisation then I have a script called ConsolidateByMoving which has options to use longer filenames than the iTunes limit of 40 characters and could be tweaked further if you were so inclined.
There is also a DeDuper script which you may find useful.

  • Help "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close..."

I have windows XP with service pack 2 installed and downloaded iTunes from the apple website, when i click on the iTunes icon on the desk top or from the itunes folder it will not open, I get the following error "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" then gives you the option to send error report or don't send. I have already uninstalled and reinstalled it several times and it keeps doing the same thing. Anybody know what I need to do to get it to work???

    Hi -
I apologize for waiting a couple of days to post - I got sidetracked. Anyway, my "fix" involved a lot of trial and error and stumbling around in the dark, but it does seem to have worked so far. Hopefully I can put together a coherent enough sequence of events to help you out.
Preface: While you're doing these steps, disable your antiviral/spyware programs just to make sure that's eliminated as a source of problems.
    1) Using the Add/Remove Programs function, uninstall ITunes, Quicktime and any IPod software.
    2) Download the Windows Installer Cleaup utility from Microsoft:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Install this on your computer. As I understand it, this is basically a program that goes one level deeper to remove software from your computer. Once it's installed, open it and use it to remove anything involving ITunes, Quicktime and IPod.
    3) Unfortunately, you still probably haven't removed all the problem traces of Quicktime from your computer. To edit your registry, select "Run" from the Start menu and type "regedit" or "regedt32" in the box. A window should open with the registry editor. There will be a really long list of files on the left side. Scroll down about 2/3 of the way and you'll see a series of folders with "Quicktime" in the name. Right-click on each of these and select "delete." Do the same for "ITunes" and "IPod" folders in this alphabetical list.
    Not done yet.
Under the "Edit" menu, select "Find." Do a search on "Quicktime" - unfortunately there is no "find all" function. So the first file with "Quicktime" will come up; right-click and delete it. Press F3 to find another file and delete - repeat until you've gotten rid of all the Quicktime files. Then search on "ITunes" and do the same process; finally do the same for "IPod." This will take some time.
**Warning: Be very careful not to accidentally delete files not marked with Quicktime, IPod or ITunes. Messing around with the registry is serious stuff that a non-computer expert such as myself should probably not be doing .
    4) Finally, once you've gotten rid of everything Quicktime, ITunes or IPod-related, download the latest versions of Quicktime and ITunes (separately). Install Quicktime first, then install ITunes.
Note: You have to have adminstrator access on your computer to edit the registry.
    Hope this helps...
    -Andrew

  • Cannot open itunes, "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close"

I have tried numerous to times to download itunes update after having ipod display indicating not all songs have been transfered because of old version. I've tried disabling McAfee and getting windows updates, (I'm running XP)When I look in programs, ipod for updater it lists both 2004-08-06 and 2005-10-12. The error message reads" itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" Quicktime does not open either and gives the same error mess. Will uninstalling and reinstalling itunes help? and if so, I loose my entire collection right?

    hi daytimer!
The error message reads" itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" Quicktime does not open either
hmmm. that strongly suggests that the itunes problem is due to a broken quicktime. let's try a careful standalone QT 7.0.3 reinstall first.
download and save the QT installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off all antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
does the install go through okay? if so, does itunes launch properly after that?

  • I just moved my itunes library from a win 7 computer to a win 8.1 computer. Getting an error message "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly. Can't play CDs or get audio file from web!

Help! I just moved my itunes library from a Win 7 computer to a new Win 8.1 computer following the instructions on the itunes website. Everything is good except I'm getting an error message on the Win 8 computer if I try to play a CD or get an audio file off of the internet. I get an error message that says "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly. I don't know where to look for or fix the audio configuration on the win 8 computer. As far as I can tell the iTunes configuration looks the same as on the other computers in the house. At this point I don't dare plug my ipod touch into the Win 8 computer for fear it will get messed up.

I have the same problem and I know that it is due to my PCI Audio driver not being compatible with WIndows 8.1.
iTunes isn't the only program that can't direct sound to the built-in speakers anymore. The obvious solution would be to update the drivers, but unfortunately Dell does not provide an updated driver for my model, so I am stuck with that.
However, saying that, only my laptop speakers are affected by this. I can use sound fine on applications where I can choose the output device and direct sound to the head phones, but for some reason iTunes does not let you choose the audio device manually.
To listen to music I imported the iTunes Library in Windows Media Player and changed the audio output using the following instructions: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/c00d11ba
However, I would also like to rent movie's from iTunes,
Would be great if iTunes would let you choose the output device, too, like most other applications using sound  from Skype to Windows Media Player,...

  • My itunes will not play any of my movies. it has played them in the past, but recently it shuts down when i try to play one. i keep getting an error message that itunes has stopped working.

windows is telling me that a new version of itunes is available. but it is the one i currently have. i have also gone into my controll panel and repaired itunes. still not working. any suggestions?

izzyjay....  I am having the exact same experience you are with Itunes....  everything worked fine in Itunes version 10.5 but has gone south with something they have done to quicktime....  it has further messed up the connection to AppleTV as well....  another upgrade that seems to break everything.....  just to test out my theory I opened quicktime separately and navigated to my movies directory and tried to play a movie directly .... it won't play.... or even appear as a playable file..... I think they have screwed around with this separation of quicktime and Itunes and basically broken everything.
Try to reinstall version 10.5 Itunes and 7.7.1 of quicktime, which seem to work correctly

  • ITunes organization is messing up my whole library.

I'm hoping someone here has a solution to this. Here goes:
All of my music was originally imported straight off the CD's. I recently (about 4 months ago) deleted (lost due to HDD crash actually) my entire iTunes library. So, I spent many hours stacking all my CD's on the table and re-importing them all one by one.
After completing the re-importation, I burned all of the files onto multiple DVD-RW's, since I really didn't want to go through this again later...
I've since had to reinstall my O/S again. But, hey, I have the DVD's right, so no problem? WRONG.
I put all of my songs back onto my computer from the DVD-RWs. The problem now is that iTunes keeps making changes to all of the song info as the songs play -- but the changes are often wrong. For example, it took a bonus disc and relisted all of the songs as if they were the standard disc. It's also been renaming a lot of the songs with that annoying "01", "02", "03", etc... Initially I didn't have any songs that were "numbered" in their track title. Right now I have 1155 songs that iTunes has messed with and decided to add the track number into the title. What gives?
When I right-click on the songs/albums and try to tell iTunes to update the info, it says it can only update for songs that were imported and it tells me to try importing them again. I DID IMPORT THEM ALL ALREADY.
Is there a fix to this? Right now I'm ready to ditch iTunes altogether as it's just making things worse every step of the way.

    hi Lana!
hmmmm. let's see if Ruthie's trick works for you:

  • ITunes for mac is not opening saying this version of iTunes has not been correctly localized for this language. please run the english version.

I tried to open iTunes but this pop up keeps showing.
This version of iTunes has not been correctly localized for this language. please run the english version
    What should i do?

Personally i would save all my existing items to another file. Delete the itunes and Download a new copy from Apple support pages and reinstall. Hopefully that won't have messed up your music. But if it does then delete all content fron Itunes and reimport your back up data

  • ITunes has terrible preformance issues

As iTunes has marched along with its myriad of updates, its performance has progressively gotten worse. It seems every time I upgrade (which is usually unnecessary) iTunes gets slower and slower. When I plug in my iPod it hangs for anywhere between 30-60 seconds. When I open it up after a period of relative disuse, it also takes between 30-60 seconds to react. Searching for things or simply trying to open up a playlist creates unacceptable lag. Resizing the window and accessing the iTunes store also have terrible response times. When I first started using iTunes I never had these problems but now they prevent me from using the program quite often.
iTunes also tends to constantly gobble up memory and disk space as it hangs around. I usually leave iTunes open for several days at a time. (since it takes so long to shut down and start up) But after a week of use, I can usually expect the program to have 150 Mb of memory and anywhere from 150 Mb to 350 Mb of virtual space taken up. This also causes shutdown times that can last up to 5 minutes. It has a memory leak it seems to me that is worse than Firefox.
Should I say screw everything and downgrade to an earlier version? I did this once before but I had unfortunately "upgraded" my iPod's software which realized that iTunes wasn't up to par and gave me an error message. (exactly what was so incompatible between versions is beyond me however)
Any suggestions without upgrading my hardware?
Is live updating a bear for the system to deal with?

I have a very powerful PC and it doesn't make a difference. 7.6 is just a mess. Your choice is to either try and go back to an older version (Best - before 7.5), or try winamp which works pretty good, but isn't as user friendly in it's looks (and no good if you've purchased lots of protected iTunes store product).
I agree in full what you've said - this mess of an "update" has really made me rethink my loyalty to iTunes and Apple products
