My iTunes hasn't been updated in a few years

I've had to uninstall iTunes and just recently reinstalled it. I receive an update notification after the other & the upgrade list continues for days. Is it possible to do an overall update without doing them single?
& I'm not sure what software I have & I don't think it's up to date either.

Apple menu > Software update.
Make sure you backup your computer first.

The ipod is not a backup device.  The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  the exception is itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old comptuer, to your new one.

  • How can I update my mac it hasn't been updated since 2011

My mac hasn't been updated in a while and it randomly deletes itunes. Each time I download it again its back on an old version of itunes and most of my music disappears. I'm not sure if it's because it needs to be updated. please help

Use Spotlight and check how many copies of iTunes application you have on your computer.
It's unlikely it absolutely has to be updated.  iTunes is either going to work under a certain system version or it isn't.  I run a copy of iTunes dating from year 2007 on a computer dating from year 2002 with system software dating from year 2005 and I don't lose music.

  • Can you please CLEAN up the podcasts that are no longer in service or being maintained? It's very tedious to click on someone's podcast to find that it hasn't been updated in 3 years.

This is a user forum and it is best to post these inquiries to Apple Feedback:

You are right, a lot of older dead podcasts do not belong in the podcasts section. But there is still a lot of these podcasts that have good information and deserve to still be listed. For example there is quite a few photography lesson based podcasts in which you can get good information from different sources.

  • For the past week my iTunes hasn't been working.

For the past week my iTunes hasn't been working. It won't even let me open the program, I get about 5 error messages popping up one after the other, saying - 'Runtime error! R6034. An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly...' - I even tried uninstalling iTunes and then reinstalling it, but half way through the download these same error messages pop up, and then it says - 'iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (windows error 1114)' - HELP! Does anyone have a clue what this is? Because I don't. I have always had iTunes and had no problems until now.

    Hello fishburger
There a few things you could try. One, is to start up iTunes in safe mode by holding Shift-Control and the other option is to try opening in a new user on your computer. Check out the article below for more information and further troubleshooting.

  • I received notice about a new cover art requirement (1400x1400 pixels) but can't find a way to change my existing art. My podcast has been updating flawlessly for several years, so I'd hate to have to remove the feed and start over.

Please note - this was not a personalized email - Apple is sending this out to ALL podcasts that are listed on iTunes.
If you are hosting with Libsyn or most any other "Podcast" host you should be ok.

If you are on a self hosted site or worse yet using some file storage service like Dropbox - then you are going to have issues.
Again - this leter from Apple does not mean anything is wrong wth your show specifically - it is a generic letter going out to all podcasters.

  • Out-of-date package not been updated in almost a year

The question I have is: what should I do when I see a package that has not been updated in almost a year (after its flag-out-of-date)? I can't seem to find any info on how such a situation is handled. I can't reflag and sending an email to the maintainer seems intrusive and/or rude. There may be an underlying reason to not upgrade, or the flag was lost in time and forgotten.
The package I have in mind is opencl-headers. It got stuck on v1.1, and never updated to v1.2, and now still not to v2.0. There is an AUR package for the 1.2 headers, but that just seems silly to have around.
    Thanks for any input!

I see, there is a backstory to all this. It seems though momentum was lost when ocl-icd devs did not respond to the email requesting info. The last commit to their repo was for 2.0 support, back in 2013. It seems abandoned since then, maybe a new spark of activity will come when a new OpenCL spec comes out.
The current situation is quite terrible really: libcl in the repos is from the NVIDIA package, so this means a hard dependency on a vendor not willing to follow the latest version of the spec. Way back when it was probably a sane choice, but now, as the email linnked by Allan shows, the situation is different.
Either choice, be it ocl-icd or Khronos, will improve the situation (OpenCL version and license-wise). Currently ocl-icd has one advantage (detailed in the POCL developer docs): choosing the icd at runtime.
As any CUDA or AMDAPP or Intel OpenCL package will include their libOpenCL, and it can be selected by LD_LIBRARY_PATH if required, I hope a sane libOpenCL package will soon make it into the repo.
As for backward compatibility: I believe the headers are backwards compatible, and it is up to the applications to verify the device they want to use supports the functionality they use. As for forward compatibility: if one solution fails and an alternative is better: just replace the package providing the ICD library by a better one.
Note that both the OpenCL headers and the ICD (libOpenCL) are designed to be platform-agnostic and should in principle work with all versions of the spec and devices, limited only by the device capabilities as reported through OpenCL functions. Currently, libcl and the old opencl-headers version is the limiting factor, which is Terrible®, given the (open source) alternatives.

  • Is there any particular reason Qt and hasn't been updated? [answered]

As the subject suggests, I'm curious as to why the latest Qt (and Qt Creator) hasn't been made available via pacman. Both have had newer versions out for a while and have also been flagged as out of date in pacman for probably the same amount of time.
Forgive my ignorance, I only recently came back to arch from using a source based distribution, so perhaps there's some logistical reason? Do all dependent packages need to be re-compiled for the newer version of this package? For example, to provide the latest Qt, would you want/need to re-compile all of the kde packages that depend on it? From my understanding, this is not a requirement (you can update gtk and qt without requiring a recompile of all dependent packages, so long as the API hasn't drastically changed and functionality hasn't been removed).
    So... what gives?
    [edit]
I should add that I just did an update today and there's a minor Qt update, along with a bunch of KDE packages. Why no major Qt update?
For the time being, I've downloaded the full SDK and installed it locally, in my home directory. But still, I'm hoping arch will provide the latest updates. Although I don't miss compile times, the great thing about the previous distro (and it's package manager) was that new releases were made available pretty quickly.

Anyway, all this has discussed many times before.
Ok, that's a fair point. I did attempt to search (admittedly, not very thoroughly), but the forum search doesn't allow you to search for just "Qt" related topics. I just did a quick search using google (site:bbs.archlinux.org qt 4.6) and the answer came up immediately. My bad! Thanks for the patient response!

  • IPad 1 32g  Updates for a few years back?

I have an iPad 1 32g. I hadn't updated it in a few years.  Now it's telling me I can't update it, because I can't get the older updates? Am I misreading this or how do I get it current?

The iPad 1 can only go as far as iOS 5.1.1

  • 1st generation; hasn't been updated; simply doesn't work.

This isn't a 3.0 issue, btw. Got the iPod from a friend. I press the home button, sometimes either the low battery icon will appear, sometimes the Apple logo. Same thing with the menu button. I try to reset it, that doesn't work either. Doesn't even register on my computer, won't charge on the A/C adapter. I have no clue what is wrong with this thing.
Quick update--as of tonight, the iPod is not responding to anything at all. Completely blank screen.
