My itunes is not reading my ipod nano

What do I need to do to get my itunes to read my Ipod. I already updated my itunes and my ipod is not being read. My ipod displays a yellow circle with a black icon, under the icon the screen reads Connected - eject before disconnecting. But I don't see the ipod icon on my desktop nor in my itunes source list. What is my next step?

Hello Charles,
I would be concerned as well if my iPhone was not recognized by iTunes.  Thank you for providing all the information with the steps you took in regards to this issue.  I found an article with a few more steps you can take:

I have the same problem. Have you found a fix? I have tried everything???

  • TS1363 no matter what I do Itunes will not recognize my ipod nano..I've tried everything and all directions

No matter what I try i can not get itunes to recognize my ipod nano when I connect.  I have tried multiple trouble shooting fixes on the site.

While Apple may request a Pay-Per-Incident, if it is determined that your device has a hardware issue, that PPI will bewailed after troubleshooting is completed. Or, you can request that they waive that if you've already done a lot of troubleshooting.  The PPI is only for issues that a user could resolve on their own but want Apple to provide a walkthrough over the phone.  You can get free support by going to an Apple Store instead, for example, as well.

  • Itunes will not recognize my ipod nano

i plug my ipod nano into my computer and itunes pops up and tells me it has detected an ipod (which is not visible on the left side tab) and tells me there is a problem. It told me to connect my ipod again and try again. I did. It did not work. the same message appears and also tells me if the problem happens again, uninstall itunes and reinstall. I did. Still it does not work. I do not know how to fix this problem. Please help.
    Sincerly, irritated.

iTunes 7 is having this problem with my iPod 30GB Video. It worked at first, but the system hung while attempting to update my iPod to 1.2. After rebooting it never recognized my iPod. I've since checked my iPod out on my laptop and my work computer and it works fine at both of those. I've finished the update to 1.2 on my laptop, but it still doesn't work on my main computer.
I've tried uninstalling iTunes, using the Windows Install Cleanup software, deleting files from temp directories, all of the stuff that the troubleshooting docs suggest on this site. None of it has gotten that computer to recognize my iPod again. I am not about to reinstall windows so what is my next option?

  • My computer and itunes does not recognise my ipod nano

I had to return a faulty ipod nano. The replacement isn't recognised in My Computer or in iTunes.
I think this might be to do with the registration of the first nano still being recognised?
I have reinstalled itunes and followed the 5R's in the manual, but the ipod is still not recognised eg. Will not sync.
A dialogue box displays the following message:
'an ipod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly...'
    Can anybody help?

I am facing the same problem, buddy. My iPod nano is not recognized by my MacBook Pro nor by iTunes.
I tried everything suggested in trouble shooting. Looks like, I will have to visit an apple store soon to get it replaced/exchanged.

  • ITunes can't "read" my ipod nano

So, I got an ipod nano for Christmas. I've already got a bunch of songs in my library because I used to have a different ipod. But eveytime I try to plug in my nano, a little bubble pops up and says, "iTunes cannot read ipod 'J:/'." and then it tells me to restore the ipod to its facorty settings.
Well, I've now restored it to it's factory settings a grand total of 7 times, and no luck. The same messages just keeps popping up.
    Someone help!!!

Me too. Except I can't even restore mine because it says i'm not connected to the internet when I am.

  • TS1410 My iTunes will not recognize my iPod Nano 6th gen.   It has worked in the past and it works with my iPod 4th gen.  I've gone through the troubleshooting steps as suggested, but still -- nothing.  Now, what??

iTunes will not recognize my Nano 6th gen. as a device.  It has been recognized  in the past and iTunes does recognize my Nano 4th gen.  The device connects to the Mac and charges allright.  All of the functions on the Nano work but want to modify my music, I'm tired of the same songs etc.

I'm not sure if it charged when I hooked it up to my roommate's computer, but it definately didn't register either. If I put it on the dock it plays so the port is fine, but that still doesn't help me sync it to my computer.

  • ITunes does not recognize my iPod Nano Gen. 4

I have a MacBook Pro Retina with the latest version of iTunes installed on it and an iPod Nano Gen. 4. The problem that I have is as follows: My Mac does recognize my iPod but just as storage device. iTunes does open when I plug in my iPod but I cannot find any iPod icon on iTunes and therefore cannot upload anything to the iPod via iTunes.
I have performed a reset procedure on the iPod, restarted my Mac, and tried out different USB cables and ports but iTunes still does not recognize my iPod.
How do I solve this problem?
