My itunes is so horribly screwed up...

After my computer hard drive crashed i lost my itunes. Following another tutorial i backed up everything on my ipod and restored it to original settings. After that when i went to set it up again using the backup it goes through the process and when it's done all i have on my ipod is my old pictures. It didn't give me my music or apps back. To make matters worse, every song on my itunes can't be located so i cant play them, also when i go to my ipod from itunes, it just wants me to restore it again, which i have done multiple times. Can anybody help me?

Backups of iDevices have never included media.
The media should be in the iTunes library on the computer.
Use the backup of the computer to put all the media back.  Not sure where you got the idea that wiping and restoring an iDevice would magically put the media back in iTunes, but as you've found out, it does not.
If the content was purchased from iTunes, it should be possible to redownload the content.

  • HT5052 How can I get ios 5 for my iPod Touch without downloading iTunes 11? iTunes 10 and above screw up .mov readibility in Final Cut Pro, so I do not want to update iTunes.

Any iTunes above 10 will screw up .mov accessibility in FCP, so I do not want to download iTunes 11 just to get this iPod Touch updated to 5 or 6.
Can I download the update some other way?

If you have a 4G iPod (one with cameras) you can only go to iOS 6.2.1 and that requires iTunes 10.7 or above.
If you have a 3G you can go to 5.5.1 with iTunes 10.5 or later.
    A 2G can only go to 4.2.1

you can update on another computer with the right version of iTunes but you will not be able to sync with your computer unless you update iTunes on your computer.

  • The new iTunes format is horrible

What happened to iTunes? There are so many stupid animations and sub-windows, it takes forever to load the iTunes Store page. The new format to preview songs is horrible too as is the Power Search result window. After doing a Power Search for a Title, iTunes chooses to show me only a dozen or so choices of what IT thinks I want to preview, then one must choose "More" to see the entire list. Whomever came up with the new format should be forced to use a PC as punishment!

  • ITunes 7 IS HORRIBLE!!!

DO! keep posting about how HORRIBLE iTunes 7 is and how Apple's response to their POS software is HORRIBLE! As I posted earlier today, I find it confusing that Apple is so slow to fix one of the FEW good things about them. They NEED to stop blaming Microsoft for their DUMB* mistakes and start searching for ways to fix them.

  • ITunes 11.0.2 screws up Podcast count

I have 37 podcasts that are unplayed. After updating to iTunes 11.0.2, the number of unplayed now shows 222. I thought maybe it downloaded a bunch of podcasts that I had already listened to (like it does when someone changes their feeds, and iTunes sees the episodes as "new").
I clicked on the "Unplayed" tab under Podcasts, and it shows the 37 unplayed podcasts.
I went in and selected all my podcasts and marked them all as played. Now, there are no unplayed podcasts, but the counter still shows 185 unplayed.
Since when did Microsoft take over coding iTunes? I expected better from Apple.
Can anyone tell me how to reset the number of unplayed podcasts to be the correct number? Thanks.

I fixed my play count by marking all of my played podcasts as unplayed, then played again. Mine was messed up after doing a clean re-install of iTunes.
I did this in the list view, selecting multiple podcasts by clicking on the first one I want selected, then holding down Shift as I click the last one I want selected. This is in Windows, but should work the same in Mac. You can also select all(ctrl+A in Windows or Cmd+A in Mac) and hold ctrl(Win) or (I'm pretty sure)Cmd(Mac) as you click on the ones you don't want selected. Then right-click on a selected one and choose "Mark as unplayed" then right-click again and choose "Mark as played".
I only recommended "Mark as unplayed" first because it didn't initially give me the option to "Mark as played", but since you had simply marked them as played, maybe marking all of them as unplayed first, then as played, could be the fix.
KEEP IN MIND that you could potentially accidentally mark a partially-played podcast as played(since they don't have an icon next to them), so pay CLOSE ATTENTION to which ones you're selecting and what is partially-played(check the Unplayed tab at top for a quick list). I only had one partially-played podcast, so it was easy to just skip that one.
I suspect iTunes just mis-interpreted a few podcasts' count, since the first half I marked only lowered it by one, then the second half cleared the rest of the 40-something unplayed podcasts.

  • Itunes 11.01 horrible

I can't stand the newest iTunes - how do I go back to older version?

    Many thanks
It's not that I don't like the new look, in particularly the new mini-player is excellent.
simply that the sidebar / playlists is more convenient for the long and tedious work of cataloguing big multi-disc sets and splitting them into one playlist for each separate work.
When I've finished the Bach cantatas, I should start on Haydn's 104 symphonies, currently packed into 33 CDs.
But it's worth the effort. As I move more and more discs into the digital workflow - or should that be EARflow? - I don't often play the physical CDs any more. AirPort Express feeds them straight in to the hifi

  • Itunes 11 is HORRIBLE - How do you sync Apple TVs now????

Gee thanks apple for FORCING me to see 851 items in my music library that I didn't want to.
It was so much fun MANUALLY deleting them all so they would not display.
I can not figure out how to sync new content to my Apple TVs.  Where the heck is the sync button???????????

I am probably even more ****** off than you are. The lesson here for us is to never update something if it works fine and you're happy. I had no reason to update iTunes and so I shouldn't have because it was working perfectly. I take responsibility for stupidly updating it.

  • Itunes 7.0 has screwed up my ipod

i recently downloaded a few podcast and sync em into my 30G ipod video but when i play em on my ipod it jus shuts down by itself without playing and shows the black apple sign what is wrong !! i cant play any music on my ipod either. I have restored/Reset/Reinstalled itunes and the problem persist can anyone help ?

Is your music stored on an external hard disk?
Does iTunes seem to hang up on the same song every time?
Have you tried checking your hard disk for errors with Disk Utility?

  • ITunes AppStore Review Counts Screwed Up?

I ran the iPhone 2.2 update over the weekend and now my AppStore reviews are showing up whacky. In the US AppStore I have 82 reviews for my application Intelliremote yet the outer screen is showing 185 reviews. Also my app ZWave Commander has 2 reviews in the US, both are 5 star, yet my app is showing 3.5 stars with 3 reviews. If I click inside it there are only two 5 star reviews. I think Apple somehow is calculating appstore reviews incorrectly? Is anybody else seeing this?
Maybe they forgot a "where" clause in their SQL.

This is a terribly flawed system and is not good for users or developers.
It's flawed because it applies to only deleted software.
Deleted ratings will be weighted much more for free or cheap apps. (including lite version, special pricing) Expensive apps will not be deleted nearly as much even if they're very buggy. An update could be around the corner and people paid real money for it.
People download free anything, even apps they would never buy and have no interest in, yet they determine whether they like it or not when they're done with it. Of course if they weren't interested in it to begin with they will give it a low rating even if it's great at what it does.
it's flawed because it doesn't require a written review.
it's flawed because pressing one more button carries the same weight as someone who spent the time to go and write a real review.
It's flawed because it's not clear to users how the ratings are computed. Apple hasn't been honest and upfront with users or developers.
It's flawed because all apps released before 2.2 were not under this same rating system. The most likely time to delete an app is in the first few weeks. That means not all apps are treated the same. if you release an app today that is cheap or inexpensive it will receive the full brunt of the rate on delete. Older apps, not nearly as much. We're not all in the same boat.
It's flawed because it doesn't take into account the number of users that have retained the app and are still using it.
It flawed because it only takes into account ratings of people who are done with the app. Maybe they're a seasonal app, maybe they're finished with a game, etc. There are a number of reasons why people delete apps. If you delete an app a month after you're done with it are you going to give it a good rating?
if it's such a great idea why doesn't apple apply this to all their products and software?
How would you rate on delete a free itunes song you downloaded? What if it's great but you just hate classical music and just downloaded it because it was free?
Now some developers are adding their own forced rating code that request users to rate their apps. How many users are going to view this with the same affection they do for survey phone calls at dinner time?

  • ITunes 10 is horrible at syncing...

I wish Apple would be more thorough before releasing a new version of iTunes instead of seemingly forcing a new version out haphazzardly. I've not had a new version NOT have a problem initially.
Right now, only about half of my new downloads sync to my iPod on the first try. Yes, after I re-sync it a second time, everything seems to copy over ok, but come on.

Yes. I'm facing the same issue where I'll star a song and then two days later it plays again and at that time it's no longer rated. Not happening to all songs, but a good enough number of them where I'm getting quite frustrated. However I'm not getting the bug where a song repeats several times in a row.

  • ITunes video lagging horribly

I've been having this problem for awhile now: Whenever I try and play a video in iTunes - be it movie, TV show, music video, or video podcast - the video lags. The audio often works just fine, but the video is choppy, as if I'm watching a slideshow or a series of pictures rather than a video. Video works fine on the internet, and in the majority of my video players, it does as well. Please note that I am only trying to play iTunes bought videos in iTunes - the videos have not been tampered with in any way, so there should not be a problem there.
I am using a Windows XP Pentium 4 CPU, 1.50GHz. I have 512 MB of RAM on the computer. It is not a new computer by any means, but it is also not terribly old. I have had this problem with several other videos in unrelated video players, but that is due to a codec issue that refuses to be solved. Besides that, other videos work fine. It is only iTunes videos that are not playing.
Someone please help me figure out what's doing this or how I can fix it. Or if I can fix it, if it comes down to that, because this is getting seriously annoying.

Just updated iTunes to most recent version. Now I'm getting jerky video playback in BOTH iTunes and QT Pro (latest version). CPU use is very high but random; ditto with video playback (i.e., doesn't hang up on the same scene/time).
I had this issue a little over a year ago after updating iTunes to the then latest version. Got nowhere with Apple's "Service" texts. I played around with configs for a while and also re-installed iTunes. It has worked fine until yesterday (same symptoms as last time). As for the past "fix": nothing I can hang a hat on. Methinks Apple updated the version I re-installed with (tho' the version # was unchanged).

  • ITunes 10.7 Has Screwed Things Up

Since inatalling the new iTunes version, two issues have developed ...
My videos are agonizingly slow to load, and continually freeze during playback.
All of my albums' songs are now lsted twice ... and the duplicates don't work.
I've already uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes with no success.  Any suggestions???

Thanks for responding.  I did nothing but install the update, as I have done every time I receive such a notice.  There's no point in repairing broken links, as they're simply non-working duplicates ... I just want them to disappear from the hundred or so albums I have.  And this does not solve the problem with my videos.  It's definitely an iTunes issue, since I can view and play everything through Windows Media Player without a problem.  For the moment, I'll reset the default player on my PC.  My phone runs on Android, so nothing needs to be changed there.  If I can't resolve the issue shortly, I'll likely just uninstall iTunes and try again somewhere down the line.  It seems as if the 10.7 version is causing problems to others, so perhaps there will be a patch coming from Apple shortly.

  • ITunes seems to disable (screw up) my sound in Windows Vista

I think I've narrowed this down to iTunes specificly. Whenever I run iTunes and let it sit paused it will cause the sound in Vista to stop working with the only cure seem being a reboot.
The weird thing is that iTunes can play music all day long with no problem, IF it is actively playing music. Or it seems fine to play music and then close iTunes between use and everything continues to work. Or it can stay running and paused IF a another application is actively using the sound. But with no active sound source and iTunes in pause mode it will disable the sound at some random point. Sometimes withing thirty minutes sometimes a couple hours.
When the sound stops, it must be a conflict of some kind, because iTunes won't run the progress bar. So it's not situation of muted sound. And neither will anything else play music when this happens.
Finaly, no other paused audio application seems to make this happen. Just iTunes.
It doesn't make sense to me.

I have the exact same problem! I have seen quite a few similar posts on the net, but nobody seems to acknowledge that it is a real problem. No solutions or "let me get back to yous".

  • Dumas at Apple iTunes Screwed-UP Update

Trusted Apple iTunes Update and totally Screwed Up my Windows 7 with numerous errors!
Tried reinstalling, uninstalling and reinstalling, suggessted fixes and NO GO!
Restored Windows 7 to date prior to update now Win 7 works but iTunes still not working!
    I CAN live without iTunes!!!

    Hello BaddApple1,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with installing the latest iTunes update.  It certainly can get frustrating when experiencing issues with iTunes.  I recommend following the steps below:
    Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
I understand that you have already uninstalled iTunes, but when you get to this step, it is important to uninstall iTunes and the related components in the order listed in the link for that step.
