My itunes library can't be read it....
iTunes wasn't able to sync my iPod for some reason and instructed me to re-install itunes, so I did. Now there's a pop up box saying the "iTunes library.itl can't be read because it was created with a newer version of iTunes" I still have the music in my iPod.... how can I sync my iPod to my "new version" iTunes or how can I recover my library... even the iTunes icon color change from blue to green. That's it mean anything??? my iPod is the 30GB

My Computer will not let me open itunes at all. It tells me that the itunes libary can not be read because it was created by a newer version.
If you still have an issue you may have to see about using the iTunes version (application) included with Snow Leopard 10.6 from the installer or an another one if available online, and see if that will install.
Sometimes you may have uninstall the bits left in your system by the earlier (or later) iTunes installers; as they all leave a trace and these can stop a different version of iTunes from being installed.
Not sure if the following site/link will tell the method...

The file itune library can not be read because it's created by a newer version
The file "itunes library.itl" can not be read because it was created by a newer version
Welcome to the Apple Community.
It sounds to me as though you have installed an earlier version of iTunes than the version you used to create your current library. -
"iTunes Library" can't be read, it was created by a newer version of iTunes
I just installed iTunes 9.1. I'm running OS X 10.5.8. When I try to open iTunes, I get the above message that it can't read the file "iTunes Library." The result is iTunes can't be opened at all. When I connect my iPhone to the system, iTunes opens normally. Any ideas on how to fix the problem? Thanks.
you could try if completely removing iTunes (and reinstalling it) helps. click here and follow the instructions.
get the latest version from here http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.
also, sometimes it helps to remove and reinstall the "Apple Mobile Device Service". click here and follow those instructions.
another option would be to fire up iTunes in _*iTunes Safe Mode*_ to see if that fixes things.

i'd appreciate any help and i've only been a mac user for about a month so forgive my ignorance.

"The file 'iTunes Library.itl' cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." Updates were only offered by Apple when I'd open iTunes. Now I can't open iTunes. How can I access the newest iTunes as an update, not a new program?
this just started w/ me yesterday. I was running 10.5.3, and nothing changed - the message just appeard out of nowhere. I update to the latest iTunes 10.6 but the message is the same.
Sounds like probably some sort of Library file corruption.
The two options available in the message box are "Download" and "Quit". Download is useless because I'm already running the latest. Quit is pretty useless.
I was going to just create a new Library and re-import all my music. Of course, all my iPhone sync settings are going go have to be recreated. -
Downloaded the newest version of itunes and now I can't access any of my library. It says The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. Anybody know what to do?????
I got that Exact message... I think I updated my version of iTunes and it worked correctly.
Hope this helps... -

Re: iTunes Library.itl cannot be read -
An unexpected message 'File ITunes Library.itl. cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of ITunes' Can anyone provide me a solution? I am still able to access ITunes but this must be done on synchronisation. Thanks
Have you recently reinstalled your OS from an older DVD or backup or ued your Library from a different System? Try to update to the newest Version of iTunes (it should be 10.4.1) from the Apple Menu -> Software Update.
That should resolve that problem.

After having upgraded my MacBook to Snow Leopard, the following error message pops when I try to access iTunes: "The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a new version of iTunes". So, now after the upgrade, I cannot access iTunes. How do I resolve this??
Thankszepel has it, but perhaps some more detail will help.
Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
