My iTunes Library has gone...POOF...twice!

Recently when synching my shuffle with iTunes I've gotten a warning stating that my shuffle is associated with another library and if I want to delete the contents of the shuffle and synch it with the current library. I clicked on cancel both times. For some reason my entire library has disappeared and the Shuffle's contents was erased. What is going on? Any suggestions to help avoid this? I have three different iPods (iPhone, Classic, & shuffle) that I synch and they're only synched to this computer (Dell 4600C)

Or, when you are synching choose the songs you want on the IPod by checking them in the library, then tell it to only synch checked items.
To be honest, the 'smart playlist' is probably a simpler way though. Go to playlists, click 'create new smart playlist' and choose your parameters from there. As you add new music to the library the playlist will update itself.

My itunes library has gone and is empty following a laptop rebuild.  I do have my iPod which is up to date with music, photos, apps etc - can I transfer from the iPod Touch to the library or will the iPod lose all its data if I sync to the laptop?  PLEASE HELP!

I'm guessing you've got iPod touch 2nd generation
iPod touch 2nd generation only goes up to 4.2.1, so you'll need a newer generation...
iPod touch 3rd generation only goes up to 5.1.1
4th and 5th generation both go up to iOS 6.1.3, wich is the current latest version.
    Hope this helps

  • HT1751 itunes library has gone

itunes library has gone after I added another iphone and backup it up onto the same computer even though through a different apple id and password, how do I get my old library back onto the orginal account. It just now appears to be the same liabary for both phones. Very confusing! Help

This is a terrible thing to happen
It happened to me last year, unfortuneatly I was unable to restore my library to what it was. I ended up using 3rd party software to move songs from the iPod back to iTunes. It worked but not all songs play. Using it also voids a warranty, so I don't recommend doing it in this manner. I think it best that you start from scratch and download all of the music back into iTunes.
I'm at a similar situation now, because all the songs do NOT play, I have restored my iPod back to Factory settings and attempting to empty my library and start over. A lengthy process, but I'll have the satisfaction of a fully working library again.

  • All of my itunes library has gone. My Music/video files are still there.

Can I put all of the tracks/videos on with the play count/playlists still there?
    Hi,
I have just turned on my computer, then itunes.
What I found was nothing. I store all my files on an external hard drive and wasn't connected when I first loaded it up.
I have tried loading up itunes with the hard drive and even my playlists and videos have gone.
How can I reload all the tracks without manually putting all my music, videos, photos and podcasts?
    Thanks

I had the same problem today, after spending DAYS updating the dates, genres, album art, and so on for over 13,000 songs. I noticed that the iTunes folder contained a bunch of files named Temp File 1.tmp, Temp File 2.tmp, etc. I renamed the iTunes Library.itl file to not_iTunes Library.itl, and then renamed the latest temp file of any size (i.e., 4 Mb rather than 4 Kb) to iTunes Library.itl. Then I launched iTunes. iTunes recreated the XML file, and everything I'd done up to the time the temp file was created was still there. The temp file had been created at the end of the day yesterday, so I didn't lose anything.

  • My old laptop broke, I have download itunes on my new computer but my music I had stored on itunes library has gone. how do i redownload my old library?

my old laptop broke - i have downloaded itunes onto new pc but my library is blank, how do i access redownload my old itunes library?

If you do have your iTunes content stored in a backup somewhere, on your iPod, or the hard drive it was originally on is no longer available, I'm afraid you are out of luck.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases again via iCloud using the instructions in this link.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
For all other non-iTunes purchased content, you'll need to rerip or redownload them from their original source.
For the future, consider making backups of your iTunes library or your entire PC.

  • ITunes Library file gone missing

    Hi there,
    This is my first post
Anyway on more upsetting words, my iTunes library has gone walkies!
I have an iPhone 5 and an iPod Classic 160gb.
So that means i have 2 different libraries.
So ive had to change which library iTunes brings up whenever i use one or the other.
However today i went as normal to change from my iPhone library to my iPod and the library file seems to have dissapeared!
And im really stressing out . Look at the pictures and tell me if theres anything unusual.
    Please help me!!!

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be copied & renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to an earlier state. Look for a recent .tmp file that is similar in size to the .itl files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. If it has happened repeatedly you may want the earliest such file generated since the last iTunes upgrade.
If applicable, see iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor to most since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems in some cases it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any AV scanning process.

All my music in my itunes library has vanished apart from the purchased items! It is not in the music > itunes > itunes media folder, I've searched the entire system for mp3 and nothing.  Why has this happened and where has it all gone?

  • My laptop had some work done on it and now my iTunes library is gone. My Nano 4 has all of my music on it and I want to sync what I have back into my iTune library. Anyone know how?

My laptop had some work done on it and now my iTunes library is gone. My Nano 4 has all of my music on it and I want to sync what I have back into my iTune library. Anyone know how?

If you purchased all of the songs through itunes store, please follow these steps:
    1. Open up Itunes and Click on Itunes Store
    2. Once you're in the Itunes Store look to right side of the screen and you should see the word "purchased". Click purchased and you'll be sent to a purchase screen.
    3. Click on "All Songs" and then it will show all the songs you've downloaded. From there you just hit the button that looks like a cloud with an arrow on it, and it will download all the songs all over again.
If you didn't purchase them through Itunes, then you'll have to download software that will strip the songs from your iPod onto your computer. And here is a guide about how to copy iPod music. Hope it helps. Feel free to email me if you need further help.

  • ITunes library has lost the past year's worth of content, but the files are still in the directory

Help! How do I restore the past 11.5 months' worth of content to my iTunes library?
Well this is weird. Suddenly my iTunes library has lost everything added since late January 2014 - almost a year's worth of content. Podcasts, audiobooks, iTunes purchases, MP3s bought elsewhere and imported, movies, TV shows - all gone. Apps added in the past year also seem to be gone, although apps acquired before then have the most current update. As far as I can tell, all of that content is in the file directory structure - it's just not in the iTunes library system.
Curiously, the "last played" data all seems current, except that many of the more recently played songs have gone missing; tracks that were modified in the past year, but were added in 2013 or before, are still listed as being modified in 2014. Anything changed in the past year remains changed; but anything added in the past year simply isn't there.
I have no idea what caused this. Earlier today iTunes crashed for random reasons, but that happens every week or two anyway; and for that matter this issue could have developed a couple of days ago, and I just didn't notice it. (I'm sure it can't be older than that - I would have noticed.)
I've got good Time Machine backups, but I'm not sure how to go about restoring this - I suspect that this help page tells me the steps I need to take, but I'd like to have some confirmation before going through those steps. (And that procedure doesn't involve Time Machine anyway, right?)
Theoretically I suppose I could also go through my directory and add the files to iTunes, one by one, but it would be extraordinarily complicated to figure out what needed to be added. I'd also like to get back all the metadata - played, unplayed, play count, last played, and so on.
Restoring the files from Time Machine doesn't seem to make sense to me, because the files aren't actually missing. Would restoring an iTunes Library.itl file help at all?
    Thanks in advance!

Hm ... I guess I can't edit the post above. Anyway, I seem to have solved it by ...
    Quitting iTunes.
Going into Home / Music / iTunes, and renaming the file "iTunes Library.itl" to "iTunes Library (corrupt).itl".
Entering Time Machine, and restoring the "iTunes Library.itl" file from a few days ago. I went back two days, which seemed far enough back to be "before" the problem but not far enough back to have trouble with recent acquisitions.
Re-opening iTunes - and everything seemed to be back in order.
So that's fine for now. We'll see if the solution is stable.
Very, very tentative assignment of blame: I believe iTunes crashed earlier today after I'd synced photos from my iPhone to iPhoto, and then iTunes crashed while iPhoto was closing (and taking its sweet time doing so). If that was indeed the case, that's at least the second time in the past couple of months that trying to sync iPhone photos to iPhoto has caused me significant problems. (The last time led to 80% of my iPhone suddenly being occupied by "Other", and a full restore of the darn thing.)

  • ITunes Library has Disappeared

Turned on the Mac Mini this morning only to find my entire iTunes library has disappeared. The finder indicates space on the drive implying the music is gone.
Further it appears that my account has been completely recreated - but empty.
(Desktop back to default - no desktop icons etc..)
I have backed up the library (80Gb) and can restore, but have lost the last two weeks of additions and ratings. Most annoying... Any suggestions?

I moved my iTunes to an external drive, and my library disappeared, although both the library data base and all the files were on the external drive (but no longer on the internal drive). I then went to edit/preferences/advanced and changed the iTunes Music folder location. No result. I then selected files/library/consolidate library with no result. I held shift, started iTunes, and instructed the computer where the library data base file was, but this didn't help. I then read the iLounge artice on Transferring your iTunes library and figured out that this was all wrong and should transfer my files back to their original location on my computer. I did so and the library still doesn't load into iTunes. I've spent hours pouring through these discussion forums and nothing seems to apply or work. Any advice?

  • My Itunes Library has become (Damaged)

My Itunes Library has become (Damaged), there is no previous itunes Library folder to chose a backup from. None of my media is showing in itunes but it is still in the relevant folders within the itunes folder, how do I get it back into iTunes! iMac, Itunes version 11.1

No it is not broken links, they are not their period. Yeah i think iTunes thinks that i already own those films for some reason and i can download them again because it cant see them in my library.
If they are not there period then you have to add them yourself as I have said twice already.
iTunes is picking up your computer authorization and AppleID login into the Store and telling you you have content not in your library (the database iTunes uses, not what is actually on your computer as files which iTunes completely fails to see).  It is showing you have content to download.
I think it may be to do with where the ITuned Media folder is directed to in the preferences.  I just checked it and it seemed to have changed itself to an Itunes folder on my local HDD, not my network drive.
I tried to change it to the root folder in my network drive, but it still hasn't populated the media into iTunes ...
Changing preferences will not get iTunes to inventory the media folder.  Changing preferences simply tells iTunes that is where you want ot store any new media added from that point on.
I'm not sure if the file directory is correct. My root folder on the network drive is named 'iTunes Library' within that folder I have music, books, movies folders etc, but there is also one named 'Itunes Media' with an 'automaticaly add to itunes' folder inside that, but that same 'automatically add to itunes' folder also exist within the root folder...
Its like it thinks all my media should be in that iTunes media folder, but its not, its in the top level folder above that.  You would think I should just be able to point ITunes at that folder...?
You have residual pre-iTunes 9 media structure as well as the new structure.  If everything was working I'd tell you to consolidate/organize to update it all.  As it is since you will have to add all media to your new library it should do it anyway.

  • Only minority of Itunes Library has been put on Itunes match.

I've just downloaded Itunes Match for my Mac, Iphone 4 and Ipad, and have it turned on on all devices, however only a small minority of my Library has gone to the Cloud, whereas preferably I'd like all of it due to limited space! Any ideas?

    Hi,
Availability of your music on your iOS devices is not instantaneous.
You need to let match complete its scan of your iTunes library. This may take some time depending on the size of your library and the number of tracks that need to be uploaded.

After ios7, My iphone4 has gone dead twice in a time frame of around two months...even though its not happening very often but a two month Old phone going dead just after a New update is not acceptable.probably ios7 still has sum bugs dat need to be fixed...Can this bug expected to be fixed in the next update...

    Hi 1283ar.
Unfortunately, iOS 7 is too hard to push for the iPhone 4 and therefore has a lot of effects turned off to try to get it to run as smoothly as possible.
However, it becomes better and better with each update coming but it's hard to do anything about the hardware on an already released phones.
If you still have trouble or think they are too hard. My tip is, if so, to restore your iPhone 4 and make a clean setup with no iCloud backup. But all your photos in a photostream so you can access it later.
