My iTunes library shows no songs

Until a few days ago my library showed close to 1,000 songs, now it appears empty. I know the songs are in my computer but iTunes can't seem to access them.

Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.
BTW, are you really still using Windows 2000?

  • Why aren't all my songs in my Itunes Library, showing as in Cloud?  I have Match on

Why aren't all my songs in my Itunes Library, showing as in Cloud?  I have Match on

    Hi,
Can you explain what you have done whilst matching your library. I have explained in previous posts what you should expect to see.
The tracks with the download icon are in the cloud but if they have the download icon, this would suggest that the originals are no longer on your computer. Where are the original files?
Your original post was regarding tracks not in the cloud. If you create a smart playlist with any of the following criteria - iCloud status not = matched, not = uploaded and not= purchased, you will establish tracks not in the cloud. What do you see when you have done this?

  • HT1459 My Itunes library has 700 songs.  The Ipod Shuffle is 2 GB.  How many songs will that hold aproximately.

My Itunes library has 700 songs.  The Ipod Shuffle is 2 GB.  How many songs can I get on the Shuffle...aproximately?

To see the exact size of your library, simply look at the status bar at the bottom.  If you don't have a status bar, enable by going to View > Show Status Bar.
If you want to fit more on the iPod, use the capability to "Convert higher bit rate songs..." as shown below.  If you set this to 128, you can fit around 500 4-minute songs in 2GB.

  • ITunes Library cutting off songs

I posted this in another topic, but I'm not sure if it belongs here or there...
All of a sudden, my itunes library is blending songs when I play them in order. When each song has 4 seconds left, the next song on the list starts playing, as if a DJ's mixing them. It's annoying, because it cuts off the end of songs, and I don't know how it will affect the burning of CDs.
Anyone know why it's suddenly doing this, and how I can make it stop?

It looks as if you have Crossfade playback: switched on.
You can find this setting in Preferences>Playback.
    hope this helps.

  • My itunes library has more songs than my ipod will hold.

My itunes library has more songs than my ipod will hold. What is the best way for me to choose what actually goes on the ipod?

Or, when you are synching choose the songs you want on the IPod by checking them in the library, then tell it to only synch checked items.
To be honest, the 'smart playlist' is probably a simpler way though. Go to playlists, click 'create new smart playlist' and choose your parameters from there. As you add new music to the library the playlist will update itself.

  • IS IT IMPOSSIBLE? My iTunes library says 4149 songs, my iPhone says 4148 songs, and my iPad says 4147 songs.  Why don't they match?!  How can I fix it???

My iTunes library says 4149 songs, my iPhone says 4148 songs, and my iPad says 4147 songs.  Why don't they match?!  How can I fix it???

Yes. I selected all songs and checked them (in case I missed a few) and synced.  I have also tried uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it.  I tried selecting all songs and unchecking them, re-syncing my phone (which didn't get rid of the songs on my phone like i thought it would), then selected all songs again, checked them, and resynced again--nothing changed.  I went to the iTunes store and selected "Check for all available downloads" and it gave me the message"All purchases have been downloaded for this account."  I checked for duplicates, deleted a few and resynced.  This reduced the number of songs, but it still doesn't match what the iTunes library says...I don't know what to try next...

How are you trying to access your Music in the cloud?
Have you signed up for iTunes match and let it upload your library? Are you signed in, when you are trying to download from the cloud?

When I choose an album to play in my itunes library, only one song plays and then itunes stops. Also, when I click on the next button, itunes stops. How can I play an entire album through without stopping after each song?

Sounds like you have accidentally unchecked all items. In the Songs view ctrl-click on any empty checkbox.

  • My iTunes library shows all music but there is an exclamation mark to the left on all entries and there is a message stating "original file could not be found" although all music is on the iPad.

The massage means what it says. iTunes can't find the actual music files. All iTunes has is a database of where the files should be and they are not there.
    Try:
    - iTunes: Finding lost media and downloads
    - Redownloading iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Music only exists on my ipod..itunes library shows up empty?

I open my itunes library and it shows about 15 songs, however it previously contained 2000+ songs. I have about 1500 on my ipod. How is this possible? Is it safe to try and sync?

is the music still on your computer? (try looking in your Music folder)

  • Why isn't my restored iTunes library showing ANY of my music?

I've recently built a new computer, and after installing iTunes and choosing my existing library (which has ALWAYS been on my external HD, not simply copied over), absolutely NOTHING is showing up.
My iTunes library, including all of the iTunes created folders are all on my external HD, along with all of the media files themselves (in their own folders), which is where they have always been. If I plug this HD back into my old computer I can boot up iTunes, no problem, and all of my stuff is there.
I've dug around support forums and followed everything I've found. I've set the path of the iTunes media folder in the advanced options to point to the same folder as the old computer, and triple checked to make sure the drive letter and everything is the same. I've started iTunes while holding 'shift', and selected the iTunes library file in that folder. I've even tried choosing the "previous iTunes library" files, to no avail. iTunes simply shows the music screen you would get with a fresh install and no library.
How do I fix this? My library contained thousands upon thousands of songs, and was immaculately organized, correcting hundreds of tagging errors in the original files themselves (which mostly predated my iPod or iTunes, spanning back fifteen years or so, before I knew much about file organization). I have no desire to redo the entire thing from scratch.
Any and all help is appreciated.

It would seem your media folder is on the external drive, but your library database remains on the original computer. See make a split library portable.

  • Why does my iTunes library show up to be different sizes?

I have about 2600 songs in my iTunes library. At the bottom of the iTunes library window, it says there are 2600 songs, 13.03gb. All of these songs fit on my 16gb iTouch.
Now, when i go to finder>Music>iTunes>iTunes Music the folder is 114gb!
WHY IS THIS SOOOO MUCH LARGER?
It's the same contents that are in my iTunes library!

Selecting Music in iTunes will show only your music.
Selecting Music>iTunes>iTunes Music in the Finder shows everything in iTunes including music, movies, audiobooks, podcasts,TV Shows, etc.
Go to Music>iTunes>iTunes Music>Music and this is only the music files.

  • ITune library with fewer songs than my iPhone or iPad?

I tried to access my music on my mac today and noticed that only 31 songs are listed in my iTunes library, while my iPhone and iPad show 193 songs on each.  Can someone help me understand how to get all my songs back onto my Mac? and why wouldn't they be there?
    Thank you!

    Hello cb33allstar,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If the songs were purchased from the iTunes Store, you can follow the directions in the article below to get the missing songs on to your Mac.
