My iTunes now must be Force Quit.

I have been syncing folders between my iMac and MB Air using Chronosync -- like Documents, PIctures and iTunes. It has worked OK for 6 months. The other day I made a slideshow with sound in iPhoto and saved it to iTunes. After the latest sync, the iTunes on the MB Air must be Force Quit. What should I do?

iTunes 10.2.2 appeared and I took it. After the update, iTunes Quit alright. That problem is over.

  • Installed Itunes 8.1 and now it crashes at close and must be force quit.

I just installed Itunes 8.1 on my Mac. I did not realize any issues at first. I can still change cover art, make new playlists but when clicking on the info button (for previously purchased content and in the Itunes Store) the info page opens so big I cannot see the bottom or the top and I cannot close the info page. The only way to get rid of the info page is to close Itunes which crashes and must be force quit.
This is very disappointing. I will not use the info button until a fix is made to this release. I have already seen the posts that you cannot re-install the lower versions.. This was very badly done.

Because I really needed to view the info on new items available in the iTunes Store I experimented with my display settings.
By lowering the display settings to 1280x800
(still could not see bottom of box at that time)
and then raising it back up to 1440x900
I was finally able to see the bottom of the resized box
and now when the box is opened it maintains the new size.
Hopefully next upgrade the box will default to the lowest and not the largest box size on windows and you can resize from there..

Why must I force quit (double press home and slide off) Mail on both my iPad and iPhone in order to have Mail access on my iMac on the same wifi network. Fetch is set to manual and my ISP is Charter.

I don't know about the "3" but it's a POP account. I've always suspected that Charter isn't letting go using their mobile apps for iOS. Puzzling that it doesn't block the other way. That is if Mail is open on the iMac it doesn't block access to Mail on either the iPad or iPhone. I'm guessing it's their mobile apps that are the problem but they won't admit it to me.

  • Must use force quit to shut down iTunes, why?

I can only quit iTunes by Force Quit.  What gives?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Try to quit iTunes. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • AppleMobileDeviceHelper must be forced quit to sync iDevice with iTunes

I have 2010 MBP running Mavericks OS X 10.9.4.  When I try to connect my iPhone 5s running iOS 7.1.2), the iTunes freeze or hang.  I let it run for about 1 hour, and it still looping with color circle.  I tried to Reset Sync history using the steps listed http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2481 with no luck.
I even tried to delete the AppleMobileDevice.kext file and iTunes can run smoothly but it can't detect my iPhone while iPhoto can detect my iPhone and export picture without any problem, then I uninstall and reinstall iTunes hoping the AppleMobileDevice.kext is the source of the problem and fixed by reinstalling the iTunes.  But without luck.  At this moment, I have to force quit AppleMobileDeviceHelper service from Activity Monitor a couple times before it actually sync between iPhone and iTunes.
    Please advice.

  • Lost ability to access iTunes via Airport after Force Quit - Network issue?

I am not sure if this is iTunes or networking related, but all other networking appears ok.
First my setup: multiple machines use iTunes library from an external HD connected to Airport Extreme, OS 10.4.11, iTunes 7.6.2.
I had been updating ratings in the iTunes library on the external drive connected to the AE and I was connected to the AE via Ethernet with Airport Card on PB turned off. I went to move the PB to another location so I turned Airport Card on and disconnected the Ethernet cable with the iTunes app and database open (dumb move apparently). The iTunes app appeared to lock up along with the PB, I was able to force quit thru it, and now I have an unresolved issue that has me stumped.
After numerous restarts of the PB, I can access the iTunes library on this AE server via the ethernet connection (as it was before attempting to move), and all of the ratings I had changed appear to have been saved. But I can not get iTunes to access the library via wireless (Airport Card).
I have restarted the AE and the connected drive both. I have restarted the PB numerous times. If I login on PB with ethernet connected there is no issue, if I login with airport active only there is an issue. All attempts to start iTunes and accessing the library wirelessly result in no success, sometimes can quit normally, sometimes must force quit. I can option start iTunes to access/create library on internal drive and also can create a new library on the external AE server. Also all other wireless networking activity regarding that server has no issue (access , copy, move files etc...)
I've tried removing iTunes pref files in user library and that didn't fix anything. The application itself works fine with the database when connected via ethernet or with internal library.
Anyone have any clues or suggestions on where I should turn to try and fix this? I can try to provide more details if needed, but I am stumped short of potentially aggravating the issue with re installs and other potential attempts that may not even be related to the issue.
    Thanks

No disk maintenance recently. I have a week old backup of the entire iTunes folder along with the Library. I tried moving that backup Library (file only) into the AE server location but that did not change anything in terms of access.
I am on lunch break so no time to try your suggestions immediately, but will later this evening. I had thought about trying with a new user but hadn't gone there yet. I also have a G4 iMac ethernet connected all the time to the AE, but it has a AE card also typically not in use. I tried accessing with the iMac machine wirelessly, and although it progressed further (got the iTunes menu bar to display - never even got that on the PB), iTunes was not able to load which makes it almost seem not machine specific but rather something with the AE settings or the usb connected drive, but again all is fine there via ethernet.
Last night after original post, on the PB, I thought about a corrupted keychain type thing perhaps not allowing file access wirelessly, and I did have something to repair there, but it did not solve the issue.
Again, thanks for the suggestions and I'll try later tonight. Let me know if my additional info sheds any further light or if it would indicate that the suggestions were on the wrong track.

  • Firefox/Safari were constantly crashing- now have to force-quit all other apps on MBP..

I really hope someone can help me. I've been having an issue with apps on my MBP crashing for like 9 months and it's getting worse and I'm losing my mind! It started with Firefox. Everything will be going along fine, and then suddenly I'll try to scroll down on a web page or click a link or really do anything and there will be a rainbow scrolly wheel delay that can last anywhere from 5-20 seconds.  I'll tolerate it for a little while, but eventually I can't take it anymore and try to shut down Firefox, which I can only do with a force quit.  Sometimes the delay is accompanied by a crazy increase in CPU which triggers the fans, but sometimes it's not.  It usually happens when I have multiple tabs open.  A while back I tried removing all my Firefox add-ons and plug-ins and whatnots (including Flash and Java), to no avail.  So I broke down and started using Safari...and the same thing happened. Went back to FF and keep upgrading to the newest versions, but the problem hasn't gone away.
Then, a couple of months ago, a few of my other "big" apps (i.e. iTunes and Adobe Reader) started experiencing similar delay issues.  No scrolly wheel appears on these, but everything  just takes forever and the only way to close these apps is to force quit.  Over the past month or so, the issue has  spread to my MS Office apps.  For these, the delay is largely contained to opening and closing new docs/presentations, but I have to force quit to close them too.
In February, I decided to move to Lion, but changed my mind when I read that people were still having issues with decreased speed and spotty internet connectivity.  I was afraid to do anything that might make things worse.
My MBP is turning 5 this month. I wouldn't be entirely surprised to hear that she's just experiencing the effects of old-age (after all, 5 years is  2X longer than my old PC lasted), but I've been unemployed for well over 2 years and am not exactly itching to get a new computer right now if I don't have to.  I did upgrade the hard drive about a year ago, but things were fine for the first few months after that.  Maybe that wouldn't create problems right away, though. I don't know.  Anyway, I'm running OS 10.6.8, Firefox 13, iTunes 10.6.1, Adobe Reader 10.1.3 and Office 2008.
I would be most grateful to anyone who can offer a potential home-repair solution (one which does not require mad IT skills), knows what the problem might be and/or how much it might cost to have it professionally diagnosed/repaired.  Depending on what it could cost to diagnose/fix it, it might not even pay to bother.
    Thank you!!!

    Mark,
Have you checked the Fonts folder found in Home/Library/Fonts folder if you have any fonts in there, try moving them to the trash but do not empty the bin.
Read Kurt Lang's ~ Font Management in Mac OS X
on required fonts, for apple applications.
This app is a goodie Font Finagler helps find & remove corrupt fonts.
Have you tried a test account so you can narrow done if this is isolated to your username account, or if it is system wide.
Disabling "troublemakers" doesn't always work, uninstalling can be more telling & what are they anyway the troublemakers you speak of?
What have you tried to troubleshoot?
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25392
Do you use any internet cleaning apps to clean internet clutter?
    OnyX Niel'sClearing caches with OnyX
Cache cleaning does help, but beyond empty the cache under Safari.
Checked the console.log & system.log for any clues?
Lastly are you very committed to running 10.4.7? (If your spex are correct)
if you decide to update see Macmaps , yes this hanging of apps. should be tended
    first.

  • ICal in Leopard uses max CPU and must be force-quit

I'm having a problem with iCal 3.0 in Leopard. When left running, eventually it will start to use my entire CPU for no reason. I have tried wiping out all of its preference files, and deleted all my "subscribed" calendars (in case it was maybe stuck trying to update one), but it's still acting up. Interestingly, when it goes into this CPU hogging seizure, if I try to quit it normally at that time, the program will quit, but then immediately relaunches itself as "hidden" -- as if it needed to remain open to finish some kind of indexing or something. I find I need to then force quit it twice before it will stay closed and quit being a nuisance.
    Something is definitely broken here.
On the other hand, at least the dock icon for it (appears to) always display the correct date now. Although I apparently can't leave iCal running anymore (unless I want to listen to my fan going full blast all day), I'm glad it no longer needs to actually be launched to realize it isn't July 17 every day of the year.
I've seen a few similar reports from other users. Has anyone found a workaround for this yet?

I did some more testing yesterday. I created a new user, launched iCal, played around with it a bit, and left it open for awhile. It never maxed out the CPU or became unresponsive, and appears to be working perfectly with a fresh set of calendars.
As I mentioned in my first post, I had already deleted all of the preference and .plist files in my regular user account, and that did not fix the problem. I have now concluded that there must be something "corrupt" in one of my calendar files (I don't think they are actually corrupt though; my guess is that iCal 3 just has some kind of bug that only occurs with some certain type of legacy data). If I could, I would simply delete those and start fresh, but I have far too much valuable information in there to do that. Unfortunately, it is not possible to export individual events; all I can do is backup and restore entire calendars. I tried that, and the problem continues, so I am at a loss as to how I can solve this without destroying several years worth of data.
As I am not willing to lose all of my old data, I guess I will just have to wait until this nasty bug in iCal 3 gets fixed.

  • Firefox freezes and must be force quit and restart over and over

Generally firefox freezes after a while when I am using it and I must either close the window or force quit firefox. Also firefox is moving much slower than it did. How might the program be fixed because I really like firefox?

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing when you open it. Please do the following to give us crash IDs that will help us understand more about the crash.
#'''(OS X 10.6 or previous)''' Click the '''Finder''' icon in the dock. Your home folder will be selected. In the right side of the window, click the Library folder to open it. Then open the "Application Support" folder, the "Firefox" folder, the "Crash Reports" folder and finally the "submitted" folder.<br>'''(OS X 10.7 or above)''' Click the '''Finder''' icon in the dock. On the menu bar, click the '''Go''' menu, hold down the '''option''' or '''alt''' key and select '''Library'''. A window will open containing your Library folder. Then open the "Application Support" folder, the "Firefox" folder, the "Crash Reports" folder and finally the "submitted" folder.
#Open the 5 most recent files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
#Paste each ID with '''bp-''' into the reply window on the forums.
    Thanks in advance!

  • ARGH! iTunes Freezes, Can't Force Quit, and Whole Computer Locks Up

iTunes freezes when downloading movies (says to check network connection, which is fine), then I can't quit iTunes or force quit. I "quit" and it remains active in the dump at the bottom of the screen.  Then Safari freezes and I can't do anything but use the on/off switch to re-boot. I've removed iTunes and re-installed. Didn't fix the problem.
Of note, iTunes downloads a little bit at a time the movie files, so after off and on rebooting and trying to re-download each time, after a few days the movies eventually download.
    Any ideas?

I have the problem when I have to force quit. I also have the pinwheel for no apparent reason and have to wait until it stops to do anything. It is frustrating as it does not happen in Safari. I like to use Firefox but it is getting very annoying. I have the pinwheel pop up when I am even typing. I tried your suggestions about starting it up in safe mode and that doesn't seem to work.

  • Cannot close iTunes by any method, Force Quit or otherwise.

Once opened, I cannot close iTunes without forcing a shutdown. "Quit iTunes", "Force Quit", etc. program immediately reopens and prevents a "Restart".

Well, it's hard to know why it's choking in the first place. So, the first two things I would try are:
Delete these files in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder:
    /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist
    /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist
    /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist
Delete this folder in the /Home/Library/Caches/ folder:
    com.apple.iTunes
If your /Home/Library/ folder is not visible then do this:
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and paste the following at the command prompt:
         chflags nohidden ~/Library
    Press RETURN.
Restart your computer then see if the iTunes problem is fixed.

  • ITunes freezes, won't Force Quit, etc.

I purchased an album from the iTunes store and it downloaded fine. I've been able to listen to the CD all night. But when I try and transfer it to my iPod Nano (1st gen) it gets to a few tracks into the transfer and then locks up iTunes and my iPod. I have to Force Quit iTunes and even then it stays open because the iPod is still connected to it. I can't eject the iPod because it says iTunes is still using it. I've disconnected, reconnected, rebooted, checked for updates, reset my iPod, and restored my iPod and I'm still having the same issue.
    Please give me some suggestions.
Also, why is freaking impossible to find a simple link to e-mail Apple Support with my problem. I've searched this website high and low and none is to be found. I'm quite angry about this and I would love to get it resolved.

Try to figure out if it's one song or if it is the total number of songs being transferred. If you can transfer them one by one and be successful that would indicate that the issue is in the connection between the iPod and the computer. If it's always the same file then check the info on it to be sure it's not unusually large or anything seem odd. If you think the file is bad on the iTunes store contact them. Is your iPod nearly full? That condition tends to make it more likely you'll have problems loading data on the device.

  • Strange "pie chart" symbol appearing - Mail must be force quitted

Just yesterday randomly half way through the day, a strange 'pie chart' symbol appeared next to my Inbox, and though I can receive mail and send mail, Mail.app (after 1 min of being open) makes my CPU skyrocket to 100%. I cannot quit Mail, and the only way I can force quit is via Activity Monitor. The usual altcommandesc combo is not bringing up Force Quit. So 2 issues:
    1. What's up with Mail? I'm using POP via Gmail as my main server.
    2. How do you get force quit to show up?

    /Ditto
Sometimes my mail will send, but the process will take anywhere between 5 and 15 minutes to do so. More often than not, though, it just disappears into a black hole. Plus, this just started happening two days ago. All was well before then.
