My iTunes playlists on my iPhone have disappeared?

My iTunes playlists on my iPhone have disappeared even though they appear when I connect phone to iTunes on my laptop. I do not seem to be able to retrieve them? I normally manage my music manually.  Even recent CDs I imported to iTunes are not appearing on the iPhone.  What am I doing wrong?  I'm using the most recent versions of iTunes and OS software on laptop and iPhone.

Thanks! I called the number (I'm in Canada) but the automated service kept referring me to go to the website. I was starting to get frustrated, so ill just wait for them to contact me. I'm not in a rush.
Thanks for your suggestions!

    Hello Janeburows,
You might have setup your iTunes in such a way that you store your Media files on your External Hard Drive and if that is the situation then whenever you delete anything permanently from your iTunes on your Computer when the External Drive is connected then the Content will get deleted from your External Hard Drive. To verify the Location for the Media files which you have on iTunes do the following.
Open iTunes > Preferences> Advanced and you will see it under iTunes Media Folder Location

  • How do I transfer music from my itunes playlist to my iphone?

How do I transfer music from my itunes playlist to my iphone?

Maddening!!!!! What used to work now doesn't!
Where did simple drag and drop go? Apple invented it!
I have an iPhone 5s and want to transfer Playlists from my desktop iMac to the iPhone. I have had these products since their first releases years ago. I am a computer power user. What used to be a simpe "drag and drop" of your Playlist (yes, in Column View which I have turned on now) to your iPhone was easy and you were set. It is now impossible to do. Or easily!
There are been other posts on this. I have tried them all. None work or the explanations are not adequate.
WHY IS THIS SAME **** HARD WHEN IT USED TO BE DRAG AND DROP?
PS: Fire the iTune Product Manager who did this version..get Jony Ive on the case to fix the User Interface Design ASAP!

  • Lost iTunes playlists from my iPhone 5

I suddenly lost my iTunes playlists from my iphone 5. I have not upgraded to ioS 7.1 for two reasons--I don't like the layout, and I only have 1.2 GB of the required 4.1 GB free. Please help!! I have all my songs still in my library on my phone, along with everything except for my playlists. I hope they are hidden, not deleted. Everything is intact on my iTunes account on my desktop computer.

Try a reset by pressing and holding the home and power buttons until the white Apple logo appears.  No data will be lost.
All playlists and content should be in iTunes on the computer, if nothing else, sync the device to the computer.

    That's irrelevant.

There is no free space requirement to update the device via iTunes on the computer.  This is also the preferred method to update iOS.

  • Itunes and all my movies have disappeared,i can no longer add to library from my external hdd which ive always used and can only add from the laptops own hard drive, any ideas what the issue could be?

ive recently updated, itunes and all my movies have disappeared,i can no longer add to library from my external hdd which ive always used and can only add from the laptops own hard drive, any ideas what the issue could be?if i transfer the movies from the external to the laptop they will add to the library without any problem so theres no issue with the laptop but when i go to add file in itunes i can path to the external but as soon as i select the file nothing happens, just goes back to itunes

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • When playing an iTunes playlist on my iPhone 5, suddenly it switches to playing music from the cloud.

When listening to an iTunes playlist on my iPhone 5, it suddenly switches over to playing a song

  • How to transfer an iTunes playlist to my iPhone?

How do I transfer an iTunes playlist to my iPhone using iTunes 11.04?

    Same as always.
Open itunes, connect iphone, select what you want, sync

  • Can't update iTune playlists on my iPhone 5

I can't update the iTune playlists on my iPhone 5. When I check selected playlists on iTunes and connect the iPhone, it synchs but doesn't update the new playlists.

To fix this you should first quit all applications running in the background.
    Instructions:
To shut down extra background apps, the first step is to access the multi-task bar on the phone. This is done by pressing the Home button two times quickly. A popup menu appears that shows all the background apps the iPhone has in memory. Items are displayed 4 at a time. If users scroll to the right, they will eventually see all apps that are currently open.
In order to manage background apps, users need to press down on one of the app icon in the Bottom until a red circle with a minus sign appears on each item.
Users should tap the minus sign next to each application they wish to close.
When users are done, they can simply press the Home button to return to the main screen.
After quitting ALL Application, power down the phone.
We will not do a normal shutdown, We are going to do a Hard Reset/Restart
    Intructions:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.
    Hope this helps!

  • All my contacts on my mac and iPhone have disappeared. Any ideas what happened and how to fix it?

All my contacts on my mac and iPhone have disappeared. Any ideas what happened and how to fix it?

Do you see them at iCloud.com
Do you think you could have done anything that might have caused this, if not then it might be best waiting a while in case they just come back.

  • How can I export an iTunes playlist to my iPhone 6?

I just purchased an iphone 6.  I have various playlists on my itunes and they didn't sync over to my phone.  I created a new playlist and it shows up in the library on my computer but when I sync my phone it does not show up on my phone.

Hi Chris, thanks for the input!  Just wanted to share that, if you have iTunes Match on, you will not be able to sync or drag and drop any new playlists. The trick is now,
    1. create your new playlists on your computer.
    2. turn off itunes match on your iphone, change options in itunes on your computer, while iphone is plugged in, to manually manage music and videos. Please note, with itunes match on, under summary in itunes, you will only get manually manage videos. once you turn off itunes match, you will get music and videos back!  sync that itunes puppy!
    3. drag your new playlist onto your music category on your iphone.
    4. you can turn on your itunes match afterwards, and while it states that this will replace your existineg music library, it will leave your playlists with imported songs alone.
Thanks to Kyle at Apple Support for his kind assistance!  ( I have AppleCare, and it works)

  • HT204406 The songs on my computer itunes playlist and my iphone playlist songs are not matching up. I do see new songs I've added on my computer playlist on my iphone playlist but the songs are not in the same order. How do I get them to match?

Playlists matching on computer and iphone?  The playlists on my computer in itunes are not matching up with the "match" playlist on my iphone.  New songs do show up when I add them to a playlist, but the songs are all in different order.  If I edit a playlist on my computer how do I get it to match on my iphone?

Restore them to the new computer using the bakcup of the old one. If you don't have a backup of the old computer, you can re-download music purchased from the iTunes store. If they were imported from CD's, etc. You will either have to re-rip them or purchase third party software to extract them from the phone. The iPhone is not a backup or data transfer device.

  • With iOS8.1 I can no longer sync MAC iTunes playlists to my iPhone. Purchased new song with iTunes and it is on my MAC but will not update to iPhone when I sync!

With iOS8.1 I can no longer sync my iTunes MAC playlists to my iPhone!  I purchased a song on Itunes store and put it into a playlist on my MAC.  When I sync (as usual) with my iPhone, the playlist no longer updates to include the new song (i.e., playlist stuck at 16 not 17 songs)... yes, all devices are authorized... If I turn on HOME SHARING it will work, but the moment you disconnect, everything goes away... What is APPLE doing?

From my post on what seems like the same issue (found here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/21087892#21087892)
    Take the following steps:
    1) while connected to wifi, toggle off then back on the Show All Music and iTunes Match options shown in my original post. Important: I did this step before, but wasn't connected to wifi, and my music disappeared. Subsequently, I connected to wifi and turned off and then back on those options and everything came back though it was grayed out and my only option was to download music.
    2) To get streaming over cellular back, go into Settings>General>Cellular and scroll down to the "Use Cellular Data for:" options and make sure the iTunes option is set to 'On'
The above steps will bring back the streaming capability which seemed to go away when you update to 6.1. It didn't ACTUALLY go away, but something about the update toggled off the iTunes option in step 2 above.
I did a final test by turning off wifi, opening Music app and selecting a song. It played successfully without downloading! Crossing my fingers, but I think I'm good to go!
    Hope this helps!

  • Order of iTunes Playlists different on iPhone than Mac

Upon upgrading to iOS 5 a little while ago, I noticed that the alphabetization rules had changed for my Playlists on my iPhone, yet remained the same on my Mac. I have a number of playlists that would remain at the top of the list of Playlists (ie ".Essentials" or "_Recent Additions") because of the punctuation before them. iOS 5 changed the way they are ordered, so that Playlists are ordered by letter ("A"), number ("2"), and then punctuation ("_"), rather than the reverse. iTunes on my Mac still follows the original rules. Is there any way to change these rules? I know it's a nit-picky thing, but it drives me crazy to have to call the playlists I want at the top "AA--Recent Plays" in order to keep them up there. A simple ".Recent Plays" is much cleaner. I saw someone had this issue when they upgraded to iOS 3.0 a couple years ago, but got the wrong answer.  I had iOS 3 yet didn't have that problem. I don't know why Apple arbitrarily would change this but the fact that in iOS 4 this issue didn't exist gives me hope there may be a solution. So, Apple nit-pickers, can I change the alphebetization rules or will I suffer through playlists that start with double A's ("AA")? Please help!

It IS a NANO issue, and I think I have found a temporary solution. It works for me, anyway:
    1. You have your smart playlist that works in iTunes but gets messed up on the Nano... in this case let's call it "Recently Added."
    2. UN-check this from the Nano sync list. Do not delete the playlist, keep it in iTunes, but do NOT have it updated in the Nano.
    3. Make a new smart playlist. The one and only rule should be: Playlist - IS - Recently Added.
    4. Name this playlist something slightly different, such as "Recently Added for Nano."
    5. Have iTunes update the new smart playlist into the Nano.
This works for me as long as I don't have the original sync'd.

  • How do I sync iTunes playlists on my iPhone with iTunes Match?

My experience with iTunes Match so far has been mixed.  On one hand, the face of iTunes on one computer to the next is virtually identical, and the streming over the wi-fi from the laptop at work to my home computer is perfect.  At the same time, iTunes Match on my iPhone seems terrible.  Playlists don't sync and are deleted from my iPhone.  Songs that are already on my phone, for some reason, still make my phone spin and drain my battery life.  Even after disabling the "allow cellular data over 3G" message, or whatever it is, is turned off, still the phone keeps spinning and draining battery life.  So, in one sense, iTunes Match is nice because I can access my music from multiple computers, but in another, the mobile connection - which should be awesome and seemless - is terrible.  Is there a way, aside from turning iTunes Match off, syncing manually to iTunes, and loading my playlists like the old way (which isn't a perfect science now, either)...Basically, how can I sync my playlists from iTunes on my computer to iTunes on my iPhone using iTunes Match?

With iTunes Match enabled on an iOS device direct syncing with iTunes via USB or Wi Fi is disabled. To sync in the traditional way iTM must be disabled on the iOS device. At this time is it either/or.

  • Why are my ITunes playlists on my iPhone, iPad and Mac not the same?

I don't understand the ITunes.  I have an Iphone, Ipad and new Mac Probook with Retina Display.  When I add songs to ITunes my playlists do not synchronize.  I have to manually delete the playlist on my Mac, create new ones, then synch with USB to each device.  Isn't there an easier way to manage the playlists?

You can't drag and drop content onto smart playlists, only regular ones.
