Can you open QuickTime Player? Do you see a number or any other error messages when iTunes fails to open?
What does the Windows Error Report look like? Try clicking more info after the problem occurs or look at Problem History in Problem Reports and Solutions Control Panel (May be in Windows Action Center).
You could try running iTunes in a new user account, like this Apple article says -> iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT) as you start iTunes, then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turing off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.

Mail application keeps shutting down short after start up - resulting in an error message. how can I repair what is wrong without losing my mail history?

Will I lose my emails I have on there? I have numerous client email files and can't afford to lose any of them. I do have everything backed up but I'm fearful of losing important client info. What if something happened during the back up and it doesn't have my files?

  • I have itunes set up to sync with my Ipod Touch and my Ipad.  As of today, it keeps looking for an iPhone to sync with and give me an error message.  I don't have an iPhone and don't know how to stop it from popping open with this error message.

I have Itunes set up to sync with my Ipod touch and Ipad.  As of today, iTunes has started searching to sync with an iPhone, which I don't have and pops open with an error message stating it cannot locate the iPhone to sync.  I have looked in devices and only the iPad and iPod Touch are listed.  Any ideas on how to stop iTunes from searching for any iPhone it is never going to find? It is annoying to have it popping up all the time with the error message.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You should really read the manual.
"How do you restore from backup? "
Restore.  When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them.  What program did you use to import them?  Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all.  You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

after perusing other subjects with playback issues:
    this is the fix:
-Launch Control Panel - Double click Quicktime, If you do not see quicktime, look on the top left side of control panel and switch to classic view. This will then allow you to see Quicktime.
-Now click the advanced tab and click on Safe Mode GDI Only, Apply, then ok.

  • I'm trying to install itunes on my new computer and I keep getting the error message about Windows Installer. It does not show up under "Programs".

I'm trying to install itunes on my new computer and I keep getting the error message about Windows Installer. I've seen the other posts regarding this issue, however, I am unable to even get it to load for it to show up under "Programs".

    Repair your Apple software update.
Go to START/ALL PROGRAMS/Apple Software Update. If it offers you a newer version of Apple Software Update, do it but Deselect any other software offered at the same time. Once done, try another iTunes install
If you don't find ASU, go to Control Panel:
START > CONTROL PANEL > Programs n Features / highlight ASU and click CHANGE then REPAIR,

  • ITunes shuts down as soon as aTV begins syncing... HELP!

i never had this problem before. the only changes i've made since the last time i synced is a learned a remotes commands to control the atv (not itouch or iphone) in order to take advantage of the extra commands.
i've tried reseting atv to no avail, i've also restarted my pc. itunes opens and works fine so long as atv is unplugged and therefore no syncing is taking place.
    any help is greatly appreciated.

    I have the same issue:
Background: Quad core PC with 4MB SDRAM
    Vista 64
    iTunes 8.0.2.20
    aTV 2.3
iTunes works well until it attempts to sync with the aTV, at which points I get a message stating "iTunes has stopped working". It is not linked to the network, as I get the same issue when I link the aTV to the PC with a direct ethernet cable. I use Norton 360 and the firewall is on "Allow" for iTunes. I use the original white remote, set up for aTV.

  • Itunes shuts down everytime I try to open.  Downloaded on Windows 8

Tried to install itunes on my new laptop which has windows 8.  When it finally loaded, I double click the program and it opens for a few seconds and then says it needs to shut down due to some error.  It says that the server does not have the proper certificate and may not be the correct server.
How do I open the program?

    Buy a mac.
    Just kidding.
I would unistall (and verify through your control panel and remove it that way)
Do a fresh reboot, and once you come to ready, shut down any programs that are running in your system tray.
Then try to perform the installation. (I would also verify that you downloaded the proper installation, 32bit or 64bit?)

  • ITunes shuts down whenever I try to open a movie or tv show.

Trying to fix a friends machine so they can let their kids watch movies on their computer again.  After looking at it I am stumped.
Each time I open iTunes and then attempt to open movies or a tv show, the screen acts like it is going to open and then essentially stops and closes the video window.  No real informatioin is provided as to why this is happening.  The computer has had no previous problems playing video in iTunes and Netflix works just fine.
    Windows Vista.  Current iTunes version.
Checked for updates.  Did an installation repair.  Deleted iTunes and reinstalled with no success.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Let's try the following user tip with that one:

  • I tried to update itunes to the latest version yet it wont update. Im currently getting a error message, from  Window Installer, configuration dat for this product is corru

I'm trying to update itunes but not very successful and im not making much progress.  Im currently getting a message on the screen from Window Installer quoting configuration data for this product is corrupt while trying

The path 'C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple\Apple Software Update\iTunes.msi' cannot be found.  Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in a folder from which you can install the product iTunes.
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

What is the problem? I can't download any music onto my ipod because this error message shows up and closes Itunes.
    HELP!
    Dell   Windows XP

    hi sbeazell!
What is the problem? I can't download any music onto my ipod because this error message shows up and closes Itunes.
if you're getting that particular message when you're trying to sync the ipod, let's get a crash log to Apple so the engineers can look at it.
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
    drwtsn32 -i
    And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log"
So, get the machine setup to collect crash logs, do the thing that makes iTunes crash. Send it to the Discussions Hosts as well as information about what version of iTunes you're using, and when precisely itunes is crashing for you. It doesn't hurt to put the URL to this discussion thread, so that whoever gets it has some context.
    let a host know
