My itunes will not open after I tried updating it

how do I open itunes on mac if it doesn't want to?

If Bengt's suggestions don't help try this basic troubleshooting fix :
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
     User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
     User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
3 - launch IDVD and try again.

'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

Organizer will not open after I tried backing up photos on an external hard drive on Mac. Editor opens, but will not launch Organizer. Have tried clearing the catalogs, but nothing works. This was first reported 10 days ago. Had to be out of the country for a week - without photoshop working-- and now I'm back with the same problem. Can someone please help, or do I dump this and try to get some help just reloading the program?

It had 4 years of photos and videos on it.
To what did your camera record those photos and videos - camera's internal memory, inserted memory card, other?
Any remote chance that the latter may still exist for you to use to download the camera files to your new external hard drive?

  • HT2693 My Pages App will not open after I recently updated it. I'm afraid to lose all my docs if I delete the App and re-install.

My Pages App will not open after I recently updated it. I'm afraid to lose all my docs if I delete the App and re-install.

First of all - you are running the proper iOS in order to use the latest version of Pages - correct? You need iOS 6 now.
If so ....See if this helps. Maybe Pages will open after you try this.
Quit the Pages app completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Or ..... Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
If that didn't help backup and send your files into iTunes with file sharing.
You could lose all of your files if you delete and reinstall the app. That is precisely why you should backup your iPad and send your files into iTunes using files sharing on the iPad. Do you backup or use file sharing?
Backup your iPad, send the files from the iPad into iTunes using file sharing and then delete the app and reinstall it.

  • ITunes will not open after update to 11.4

I updated iTunes, along with the other updates I was prompted to install but now my iTunes will not open. At all. No error message or anything. Please someone help?
    Thanks.

    Hi Cchoe,
I see that you are experiencing an issue with iTunes after an update. It sounds like this issue could be related to third-party software interactions with iTunes. Here is an article that will help you troubleshoot:

  • ITunes will not open after updating

Ever since the update to 7.1.1 iTunes will not open.
I get a pop-up window that says iTunes has stopped working.
I have followed Apple's instructions for Vista about uninstalling all Apple products. I have done this 8+ times and I am at a total loss. I am a webmaster and Sr. Sys. Admin for a software company, so it's not like I don't have experience with computer/software issues.
When I look at the Windows application log. I have this error:
Faulting application iTunes.exe, version 7.7.1.11, time stamp
    0x4890a5ee, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 6.0.6001.18000, time
stamp 0x4791a76d, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x000254d8,
process id 0xf44, application start time 0x01c8fb2e587a39a9.
This started happening after I updated.
No other issues with any other programs. Quicktime will start up and run.

I hear you. My itunes is fubared and Apple and ALL the articles they send do NO good. I have emailed Apple many times and nothing helps.
Whatever they changed with version 7.1 messed up itunes and you can't go back.
I have emailed Apple asking them if I can delete my itunes directory and any references to itunes and NOT lose my 10K songs. They havent responded to that email and my guess is that it will delete it. But Im not going to risk losing my library until I know for sure !
Im in the same boat you are, I dont want to lose my library either. APPLE NEEDS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND NOW !!
anyway this is a pain in the *** but itunes(windows) will open this way
    UNTIL APPLE FIXES THIS !
    1.boot up windows
2.right click on your START button
3.go to C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\iTunes (my machine is a Dell with Vista)
4.go to the itunes directory C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\iTunes\SC INFO
5.delete BOTH files SC info.sidb AND SC info.sibb
6.launch itunes, it should open, mine did.
    7. if you have any purchased songs from the istore, log-in with your user name/password.
THIS WORKED FOR ME BUT YOU HAVE TO LEAVE YOUR ITUNES OPEN, IF YOU CLOSE IT OUT, YOU WILL HAVE TO REPEAT THE PROCESS AGAIN. (at least I did)
    GOOD LUCK !!

I have tried to install the latest version of itunes to my PC on Windows Vista & I keep getting - "Runtime Error!" R6034 & itunes will not open.

iTunes will not open with iOS 7 update

My sister is having the same issue on iPhone 4. iTunes only loads the menu buttons at the bottom of the app with no content. I'm going to have her try the reset settings.
I will add that iTunes on my iMac seems to require a cookie from Safari to keep you logged in. I've never seen the same requirement on the phone but iBond's solution will work if you ever have an issue with iTunes log in on your computer.

  • My iTunes will not open after a re-install

I went to the apple store b/c my computer was running my computer has been running slow. They told me to try to do a re-install after saving things on an external hard drive. I followed their advice and now iTunes now will not work. I tried to download iTunes 8, but my system requirements won't allow for it. Next, I tried to download version 7 as I know that one should work. But, once it was done downloading I had a application, with no program to open it with. I am not sure how to get it back up and running. Any ideas?

I slept on it, and tried to open up iTunes today...for some reason the error message changed and now said I needed a newer version of Quick Time. I got the latest one, then it said I needed to upgrade the iTunes, so I did that as well (I got version 7.3.1) and then was able to get it to work.

  • TS3540 ITunes will not open after re-install

I followed the instructions from this article after trying to sync iTunes with iPhone5.  I finished the second set  of steps downloading http://appldnld.apple.com/iTunes10/041-7195.20120912.d3uzQ/iTunes10.7.dmg
After restarting a couple of times, it still will not open.  The icon in the Dock has a question mark superinposed on it.
Now what do I do?  All of this just to get message groups/email lists to be on the new phone.  Yikes!

Well, after reading more posts and not getting any answers here, I kept fidgeting and discovered that while the Dock iTunes icon did not work, going through the App folder and then adding the icon to the Dock did work.  The iPhone5 did sync while plugged into power - not having to be directly connected to the iMac.  So far so good.  Still figuring out how to get the groups to show up.

OK, I've been messin with this for about 4 hours now, I finally found the solution to my problem and would like to share in hopes of helping. Every time I tried to open itunes I recieved this error message:
"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.
Please tell microsoft about the problem.
We have created an error report that you can send to us. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous.
    <send error report> <don't send error reptort>
I sent the error report ... and eventually got this link http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302372
Which basically lays out my whole problem - and I did all of the suggested steps but still...
same message... same problem... and no solution.
I came to the mssg boards and tried all these suggested steps that are on this post to no avail. Reinstalled everything over and over. Then I found this:
for itunes 6.0.x, the first thing i check for with one of those is a broken quicktime. does your quicktime currently launch, or does it give you an error message?
try a careful standalone QT 7.0.3 reinstall.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
I went and downloaded the standalone quicktime, installed it. Opened the quicktime program to make sure it worked, which it did, then tried itunes again.......
    WALLLA IT WORKS!!!! Finally
hope this might help, good luck.

    Win XP SP3 32bit

i had almost same issue on Windows RT 8.1
i tried to uninstall and reintsall as apple says THOUSAND TIMES but, did not work at all !
i sorted out myself issues they are ,
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple folder &
    C:\ProgramData\Apple &
    C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer    cannot be deleted
thats why i recieved "Error 7 (Windows Error XXX)" even though apple says its because netframework or Corrupt download or incomplete installation of iTunes software

all solved my problems of installing itunes, now i have to find a way to delete the files on the desktop .

  • Itunes will not open after upgrade

After upgrading to the latest version of itunes and quicktime it will not open (no error message given). If i log off as administrator and log on as another user it will open. is there a fix for this?

there's a few different things that can cause that on a PC.
perhaps try working through the user-account-specific section of the following document first:

With that one, the only workaround I'm aware of at the moment is to disable your BonJour Service.
Right-click "My Computer" and select "Manage".
    Expand "Services and Applications"
    Open "Services"
Right click on the BOnJour service and select "properties".
In the General tab, change the start-up type to "disabled".
    OK out of the tab.
Restart the PC. Does iTunes launch for you now?
