Start with closing any open applications in multitasking and restarting the device. If unfamiliar with multitasking, I have included a screenshot on how to process an application close. Test the results after processing these steps.

It doesn't say anything about an error, it is just a grey screen. Someone help, please! My itunes is the newest updated one.

Are you saying iTunes won't open? If you're seeing a gray screen that's probably the background used behind Mission Control, fulll-screen apps, etc. When you open iTunes, move your cursor up to the top of the screen and see if you can get the menu bar to appear so that you can take iTunes out of full-screen mode with the button on the far right.
Try force-quitting iTunes from  > Force Quit... and relaunching...

ITunes won't come up automatically

Ever since I had to take my computer to the shop to have them remove a Rootkit, a few things won't work right. My iTunes will no longer come up automatically though I have it checked to do so. When I hook-up the 30 GB iPod, it won't come up at all. I have to bring it up manually & then it updates OK. But when I hook-up my Nano, instead of iTunes coming up automatically, drive "E" comes up which says that it's my Nano. Then I have to close it & bring up i-Tunes manually & it updates OK. Both are checked to have iTunes come up automatically & no, I don't have "Enable Disk Use" checked. I can't figure this out. Can anyone help out? Thanks.

I recently uninstalled iTunes on my Windows 8. I reinstalled it, now iTunes won't come up. All it says is "The file "itunes library.itl" cannot read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."

A couple hours ago I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 7.1.2 or the newest version of iOS (not 8). It sounds like your error message is in regards to having installed an older version of iTunes on your computer. The following Knowledge Base article offers up the step-by-step on how to properly uninstall iTunes:

ITunes won't come to front, beachballs...

Hi everyone...
I was wondering if anyone could tell me why, when I open iTunes, it doesn't come to the front of my screen. It stays in the background, behind all the other windows, and if there are no other windows open, then I have to click on the iTunes window before I can do anything in it, or it "beachballs" for 20-30 seconds.
Also, once I have it open, it seems to beachball for practically everything I try to do: selecting multiple songs, skipping tracks, switching between playlists, playing mpeg videos...for all of these actions it freezes, beachballs, and skips ahead 10 seconds or so, then plays fine.
I am running 7.6. I have not tried deleting and reinstalling iTunes because I'm not sure how, can't seem to find directions on Apple's site, and am hesitant to screw something up. Please help!!

I had a similar problem after I intstalled the "GimmeSomeTune" plugin app. When I started iTunes it would load behind other windows (usually second if counting from front to back). I did not have any of the other problems listed. But I may have a solution for the non-front loading issue.
If you are unfamiliar, GimmeSomeTune is a notification app that shows a pop-up window for a few seconds with the song info and album artwork. It is similar to the "Growl" or "GrowlTunes" notifier.
I unchecked "Start GimmeSomeTune with iTunes" in the GimmeSomeTune preferences and iTunes loaded as the front window again.
I think what happens is that iTunes starts to load then the script to load GimmeSomeTune starts to load that app and iTunes gets demoted. It's no longer the program you clicked most recently. If you are using GimmeSomeTune, Growl or any of the other notifier apps this may be the conflict.
So now I am faced with a choice. Start GimmeSomeTune with iTunes and know I will have to click the iTunes window to bringt it to the front. Or start iTunes and then start GimmeSomeTune. I plan to report the bug to GimmeSomeTune.

Have you tried closing the iTunes store app via the multitasking bar and seeing if it works when you re-open it ? Double-click the home button to open the taskbar, and then swipe or drag the iTunes app's screen from there up and off the top of the screen to close it, and click the home button to close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the equivalent of a reboot.

Itunes won't appear on the screen when icon is double-clicked

After down-loading some music, I noticed my itunes window was closed. I double-clicked the icon in the dock and nothing opened except I could see the itunes menus at the top of the screen. I can hear songs by double-clicking the track in the hard drive, but no itunes appears on the screen.

once you have the iTunes menu up, go to the Window menu. choose iTunes. do that whenever the window has disappeared. that should solve the problem

Sorry to see you have an image on your screen which will not go away. If the previous suggestion does not allow for identification, try placing the phone in Safe Mode: http://vz.to/1lZdbMN . This disables most 3rd party apps. Does the image go away in Safe Mode? That will indicate it is likely a result an app download. Go to Settings> Application Manager> Downloaded. You can selectively uninstall downloaded apps until the offending app is removed. Best guess is that is a messaging app of some kind as they typically will remain on your screen like that. Hope that helps!

I was struggling with this since my latest Itunes update. Fiirst it would not recognize my IPad as a device, after correcting that, it would list the Ipad in my device but my Sync had no options (summry, info, etc). and it kept saying it was "Accessing Itunes store". reading your question I suddently tried deleting the itunes task (alt-ctrl, delete, processes) and delete Itunes. (By the way, I had rebooted my computer several times over the last few days). I opened up Itunes, and voila. Device is there. No "accessing windows" and my sync has the normal options.

When I go to open iTunes it doesn't load or even seem like it's trying to. Task Manager doesn't even show it. I have reinstalled twice and still no luck. Any pointers? :]

Okay, I finally found a solution in this thread -

Once iTunes opened, I followed the instructions from the thread above, but I also had to import my most recent library file too. I next had to do some clean up work and delete duplicate songs I saw listed. Finally as a last step, I had to erase and resync my iPod, as iTunes recognized the recreated library as a new one. Finally, everything is back and working.

every time i try to click on the shortcut key to itunes, it doesn't come up.. same for when i tried putting a cd in to import, hooking up my ipod, and right clicking and then clicking "run"... so then i tried to install the latest itunes (someone told me i should do that) well it seemed to work..but now whenever i click on the shortcut or anything like that this agreement thing pops up and goes away before i can actually click "agree"

i have to get this fixed tonight cause my friend lent me a cd to import and she will kill me if i need to borrow it again..she was really reluctant to give it to me in the first place! yar....

It depends on your iOS version. latest versions require iTunes 10 which only support OSX 10.5 and above, but if you're using iPhone older than 3.X you can tryhttp://www.filehippo.com/download_itunes_32/6155/ and see if it works.
