My iTunes won't open anymore on Windows 7

Stopped working a few days ago.  Everytime I open it, it gets stuck trying to access the store.  I've re-installed several times to no avail.  Always gets stuck in the same place.  Short of wiping the entire hard drive I don't know what else to do.  Any ideas?

If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset and are running any kind of net monitoring software like Bsecure, Net Nanny, AVG Family Safety, Safe Eyes, Covenant Eyes, Norton Online Security etc... I would suggest that you try uninstalling said software and reinstalling iTunes 10.5 to see if that corrects the issue.
You may follow article TS4123 the steps to identify which software in your system is the culprit and uninstall it. Good Luck!
iTunes 10.5 for Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store

Symptoms
You may notice the following symptoms after installing iTunes 10.5 for Windows:
iTunes is slow to respond
Windows is slow to respond
iTunes stops responding when backing up or syncing with an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Some processes installed by iTunes are using up a lot of resources in the Windows Task Manager.
iTunes Store looks empty and white as shown below:

iTunes Store, iTunes 10 for Windows
Resolution
Look for modifications to Windows by:
Running MSINFO32 by choosing either Start > Run, or using the search box to search for
Once it is open, expand Components and then expand Network.
Click Protocol. The first value should look like this:
However, if you find a value that is more like this, it indicates that there's an LSP (Layered Service Provider) monitoring your computer:
"<LSP Info>" is variable and may specifically mention a software suite, or appear to be a meaningless acronym
Scroll through the list on the right and look for any LSPs that have been installed by third-party software. By default, the Windows OS will have 10 values:
MSAFD Tcpip [TCP/IP]
MSAFD Tcpip [UDP/IP]
RSVP UDP Service Provider
RSVP TCP Service Provider
MSAFD NetBIOS [\Device\NetBT_Tcpip...
The value above repeated 5 times with additional variables at the end
Note: If you want to know more about which values from this key are part of Windows, please review Microsoft article 811259.
Once you've identified the third-party LSPs, determine which software placed them there. Here is a partial list of LSPs you might run into and the software that may have placed it there:
Product or Manufacturer
LSP Name
Bigfoot Networks
BfLLR over [MSAFD Tcpip [TCP/IPv6]]
ByteMobile, Inc.
BMI over [MSAFD Tcpip [TCP/IP]]
Covenant Eyes
Covenant Eyes Monitoring over [MSAFD Tcpip [TCP/IP]]
PC Tools / Spyware Doctor
PCTOOLS over [MSAFD Tcpip [TCP/IP]]
SafeEyes
Internet Content Filter over [MSAFD Tcpip [TCP/IP]]
SpeedBit Video Accelerator
SBLSP over [MSAFD Tcpip [TCP/IP]]
VMWare
VMCI sockets DGRAM
Once you've identified the third-party software that installed the LSP, you can remove that software. If the software is your security software, see iTunes: Troubleshooting security software issues for additional information.
Note: If unsure on the origin of your LSP, you may try to locate vendor information to determine which software is responsible for the non-default value here.
Reset the WinSock key
If you are unable to identify the software that installed the LSP, you are unable to remove this software because it performs an important function for you, or you've removed this software and the issue persists, you may wish to reset the WinSock key.
To do so, please do the following in an administrator user:
Windows Vista and Windows 7:
Windows XP:
Enter the following command:
netsh winsock reset
Restart the computer and test the issue.
Note: If the issue returns, third-party software may be reinserting the LSP.

  • ITunes won't open and a Windows error message pops up

I downloaded iTunes 10.2.2.12 awhile ago.  It worked fine the first time.  Ever since then, whenever I plug in my ipod, my laptop recognizes and says it's syncing but iTunes won't open.  I double click on iTunes and I get an error message from Windows saying that an error has occurred and it needs to close iTunes but it never even opens up.  (The message doesn't give any error codes.)  I've tried completely uninstalling iTunes and all its components and then reinstalling it but I get the same error message.  I have Windows XP 2002 Home Edition SP 3.  Please help.  Thanks.

    Many thanks.
Yes, it is an "iTunes has encountered a problem" error.  The ModName: dnssd. dll        The ModVer: 2.0.5.0     Offset: 0000246c
With that one, by way of experiment, let's try disabling your Bonjour Service.
In your Start menu, right-click My Computer and select "Manage".
    Expand "Services & Applications".
Open "Services". (Perhaps maximise the screen to better see what's going on.)
Right-click the Bonjour Service and select "Properties".
In the General tab, set the Startup type to "Disabled":
    ... and click OK.
Restart the PC and try launching iTunes again. Does it launch properly this time?

  • I just updated itunes to 10.7 version, but now itunes won't open. i have Windows Vista

    Hi:
My itunes stopped working when I installed the lates version which is 10.7. Itunes won't even come up now even when I connect my ipod. My ipod is the only device that I use with itunes. I have Windows Vista.
Please help me fix this problem! I AM NOT computer savvy, and I would prefer not to uninstall/re-install itunes and or quicktime. I have read many "solutions" on the internet, and people often say that uninstalling ect doesn't help. I just need the simplest solution because I barely know how to download music! Ha-ha!
Anyway, an answer would be appreciated, and sooner the better because I usually watch important podcasts that I am now missing.
    Thank you!

  • ITunes won't open anymore. Have uninstalled and re-installed multiple times but installer window never pops up (Windows 7).

I have Windows 7 and my iTunes mysteriously stopped working. The loading sign (little blue circle next to the mouse) came up but nothing would happen. So I uninstalled it and re-installed it. Except it's the exact same problem. I click on the iTunes Setup shortcut and, again, nothing happens. I've uninstalled everything to do with Apple (Quicktime, Bonjour etc.) and have made sure that when I download the program again, it's set for Windows 7. I've also tried restoring my computer to a previous date, when iTunes did work, but it was the same thing! Nothing happens. IE works just fine and I'm able to download other things from the internet, all except for iTunes.

Are you re-installing Itunes 10.4?    If you search around the discussion you'll see lots people are having issues with 10.4, including myself,  probably best to go down to 10.3  until Apple fixes the issues with 10.4.

  • ITunes won't open after using Windows Media Center

Now when I try to open iTunes it comes up with the message "The folder itunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permission for this folder". Nothing has been changed, I did not lock anything, and now the folder automatically reverts itself to Read-Only. Please help

I also tried un and re-installing itunes but it did nothing

  • ITunes won't start anymore in Windows 8

i just loaded windows 8 and my iTunes was working just fine and then it wasn't. Anyone having the same issues?

    tnbarlow wrote:
that is a shame. ... early adopters bleed again.... so i guess it is an Apple issue as it worked then update then nada.
Hhhmmm! So which bit of "it's not yet supported" do you not understand?
Although the definition of an early adopter is open to dispute, it is fairly obvious that that's the price you pay for being an early adopter - especially if you insist on adopting before the product is actually supported.
I guess - no I think - that the issue is yours, not Apple's They have given no undertaking yet, to support Windows 8 but you go ahead anyway.
And then you complain about it.
It's not that I'm unsympathetic, but it's a bit much that effectively, you were asked to wait, you ignore that, and then try to hold Apple responsible. Perhaps, next time, a little patience might be in order.

  • ITunes Won't Open on a Windows Machine

    Just as some background information:
I first got my iPod for Christmas in 2004. I upgraded my computer to Windows 2000, installed service pack 4, and installed and ran iTunes without incident. After each subsequent upgrade, I've been able to run the program fine, with no problem. However, with the release of iTunes v6, I haven't been able to run the program after a (seemingly) successful upgrade. The problem is that I'll click on it, it will show up in my task manager, but the timer will stop (always at about 00:00:06) and the mem usage will freeze at about 12,000 K, or thereabouts.
I've uninstalled any extraneous programs on my computer. I've uninstalled iTunes completely and redownloaded it, as well as uninstalling iTunes and Quicktime completely and redownloading both. I've tried to run the program with my Norten Internet Security (2005) disabled and even closed the program completely. I've run a check for both viruses and spyware, both of which showed my computer was clean (both my antivirus and antispyware programs are up to date).
I'm suspecting that the culprit is something that can be solved for about 40 bucks -- not enough RAM. Right now, my computer is calculating it at around 320 (in a two slot machine, one card is 256 megs, and the other is a 64 meg card). As specific as I've tried to be, I failed to note the RAM requirements for this current version of iTunes as compared to those of versions past.
In plain terms, is my problem not enough memory? Or could there be some other problem?
Dell Dimension L600r   Windows 2000   Service Pack 4, 320 RAM

    Just some more information.
I have a Pentium III processor...I want to say around 700 MHz (but I'm sure someone who knows what they are talking about is going to correct that number). In terms of numbers, I meet all of the system requirements provided on the iTunes 6 download page.
I have tried the technique (suggested before on this board) of uninstalling both, reinstalling Quicktime as a standalone player, and then reinstalling iTunes. I did this by the suggested method of saving the installers to my harddrive and installing from there. I still have the same problem.
I don't know what to do, and as i can't afford a new computer, I'd at least like to know why this one isn't able to perform what I want it to do.

  • Itunes won't open anymore. I get a runtime error now.

I uninstalled and reinstalled and still get the error. It looks like this: Runtime error!  Program C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe  R6034 An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
What do I need to do?

I had the same problem and called apple support (800-275-2273. I talked to representative and he sent me the "Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for windows". I followed all steps , removed iTunes and components, restarted computer, check if everything is removed, and installed iTunes 11.1.4. Everything is working and my music is there. Thanks for help!

  • My itunes won't open anymore it says there is a program c error what can i do to fix the problem?

Hi my itunes has stopped working it says there is a programe error in c drive error7 windows error 1114 does anyone know what i can do to fix this problem?
can i re-download itunes to fix it or will i lose my library if i try that?

Under normal circumstances, an uninstall/reinstall doesn't touch your content. (That being said, it's still always a good idea to maintain a current backup at all times in case of disasters of any sort.)
Uninstall your existing copy of iTunes. Delete any copies of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer files from your downloads areas for your web browsers and download a fresh copy of the iTunes installer from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
(The current build of the 11.1.4.62 installer was changed a few days ago, which fixed the bulk of the reports of MSVCR80.dll/R6034/APSDaemon.exe/Error-7/AMDS-could-not-start trouble ... but the build number on the installer was not changed. So we're trying to make sure you do the reinstall using a "new good" 11.1.4.62 installer instead of an "old bad".)
Does the install with the new copy of the installer go through properly? If so, does that clear up the error message?
If you still have the same error messages cropping up, then try the procedures from the following user tip:

  • Itunes won't open at all in Windows 8

Ever since my computer froze and had to be shut down earlier today itunes won't open at all. When I click nothing happens. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything apple related, restarting my computer, moving folders around, etc. and no solution I've found online works. This used to happen on my old laptop (Vista) but restarting would always make it work again.
