My Itunes Won't Recognize The Music I Already Have!

My computer I had my Itunes program on crashed and I installed it on a new computer and now i still have the music on there but the new Itunes won't recognize it. And it won't allow me to put new songs on there. What's up?

i will suggest you to follow this article from the apple's knowledge base. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303635.
Most important thing when you are adding music to the itunes library by doing "Add folder to library " be sure to have this option checked "copy files to itunes music folder when adding to library " , its under Advanced menu in itunes preferences.

  • If you update to the newer version of itunes, will it delete the music i already have???

can somebody help me please??  if i update to the new version of itunes, will it delete the music i already have??

    No it will not.
The music is yours on your drive, only you, or malware or a drive crash, can delete that data.
pLeAsE make backups of your valuable data.
Apple makes it's easy in iTunes, File > Library > Backup to Disk   Feed it DVD-R's label and data, or use a external drive.
Apple doesn't reinssue downloads. The music is yours you bought it.

  • How do I sync my old ipod to my "new" iTunes library without losing the music I already have loaded onto my iPod?

Hi, so I got my new computer loaded up with iTunes and I want to be able to move my music from my old iPod to my new iTunes library without losing any of the music I already have placed on the iPod. How would I do this? And please I'm not too savvy with the new iTunes layout and such so if you could make this easy in layman's terms that would be great.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you purchased all songs in the iTunes Store, plug your iPod to your Mac or PC and iTunes will ask you to transfer purchases.
If you didn't purchase any song or you have non-purchased songs from the iTunes Store, you have to use an application to transfer the songs to iTunes. Here is a list of applications you can use for that > https://discussions.apple.com/message/11319208#11319208

  • I bought a new Ipod touch, my itunes will not see the music I already have on my PC

I bought a new Ipod touch, my itunes will not see the mp3 songs I already have on my PC

I have thousands of mp3's on my PC.  I used to use a Zune, it died I made the move to I pod touch.  I downloaded I tunes to my PC and a small amount of my music showed up on the screen.  I did a search for an artist for whom I have lots of songs.  I tunes can't find him and tries to direct to the I tunes store to buy stuff by him.  Unacceptable
So then I went to my windows explorer, opened my folder for the artist,  right clicked on a song,  chose "play" and  I tunes then played it.  So now I tunes can find that one song but none of the others in that folder.   I don't want to do this drill with all my songs since I have thousands that I tunes can't or won't display.  Is this just some cynical move by Apple to get me to re-buy music I already have?

  • ITunes won't recognize my new Nano (already have ipod 5.0)

    Hello-
I installed the software for my new nano. When I attach the nano, iTunes says that something is wrong with the software and that I need to re-install iTunes.
My 5.0 ipod still connects fine. My main question is: what is the trick to having iTunes recognize 2 different ipods?
Also, will reinstalling iTunes affect my playlists, library, podcast settings, etc?
    Thanks for any help

  • When I download the new version of iTunes, does it keep the music I already have on my "old" iTunes ?

Hello, I'm wondering, so asking there !

upgrading to (or installing) a new version of iTunes will not do anything to your existing media files.
that said, it is always a good idea to back up your precious library. you may want to bookmark the following for future reference:

  • My pc won't recognize the music that's on my iPod touch.

I changed computers, and my current pc doesn't recognize the music that I have on my 3rd gen iPod touch.

Once I turned off User Account Control, I was able to purchase TouchCopy.  My computer wants me to turn User Account Control back on, which is fine, but why does iTunes require that I authorize it each time I open?  I can open all my other programs directly.
    Thanks, lllaass!

  • Ipod stuck in recovery, and iTunes won't recognize the device.

My ipod is stuck on restore/ recovery mode, and iTunes won't recognize the device. The computer makes the beep noise saying that somethin is plugged in but itunes won't pick it up. It is iTunes 11.1.1 and i have a 5th generation Ipod touch. Any Help? Thanks (:

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

You might be running an earlier version of iTunes.

  • I recently had to completely restore my laptop, so I lost the music on my itunes. It's still on my iphone, but how can I keep the music I already have and continue to add more music from the newly set up itunes again?

I recently had to completely restore my laptop, so I lost the music on my itunes. It's still on my iphone, but how can I keep the music I already have and continue to add more music from the newly set up itunes again? Is there actually a way to do this? I can't help but wonder what the stupid icloud is for if my music is still somewhere in the 'cloud' but it's zero help for restoring music when it's lost on a computer....any help even a site that get's around apple would be great!

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
Have you failed to do this?
If so, not good, you can transfer itunes purchases from the iphone to your computer.  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
You can also redownload some itunes purchases in some countries:

  • How can I sync my iPhone music to my new Mac with out loosing my the music I already have in the phone?

Bought a new Mac and iTunes won't let me sync new music to my phone because I used to sync it in my old Mac.  How can I sync with the new PC with out loosing the music I already have in my phone?

Copy everything from your old computer to your new one then sync.
Iphone will sync with one library/computer at a time.  Syncing to another will indeed erase the current content.

  • Itunes does not recognize the music from my External HD's music folder

I recently installed itunes onto my new IBM thinkpad. I have tried unsuccessfully to get my iTunes play list to reference the music collection that is located on my external HD (the songs are all AAC formated). I have set the "itunes music folder location" in the Preferences-Advanced settings to the music folder that is located on my external HD; however, for some reason itunes is not pulling the music from the external HD into it's play list....
I have read other post that suggest that you use the "Consolidate Library" function in the Advanced menu to pull the music from the external HD, but I am afraid that this will simply copy the files from my external drive to the "itunes" folder that installed by itunes on my laptop's C drive. My goal is to keep my laptop's internal hard drive completely free of any music files. Is there some kind of "feed" function that needs to be run to get itunes to communicate with the exteral drive? I really want to avoid moving any of the songs onto my C drive.
Any advice you may have would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, you can try signing up for DropBox - it's a free service that allows you to sync any files between your iPhone and your computer.  More info here:  http://www.dropbox.com/about
