My iWeb site - video format not supported on iPhone

So, I have a video on my site, done in iWeb,(opens in the iPhone Safari browser), its a,Quicktime FastStart movie - my iPhone won't play it. How is it that an Apple product won't play an Apple format movie on an Apple mobile browser?
I understand the iPhone does not support Flash - so how does it play YouTube clips?
I have uploaded QT or .mov files into my iPhone to the iPod part of the phone- so what gives?

The guidelines in this Apple doc may help:
_Safari Web Content Guide for iPhone OS — Creating Video_
...To download the same doc in easier-to-navigate PDF format, right-click (or control-click) on _THIS LINK_ and choose +Download Linked File+. (The video section starts on page 73.)
And a summary of supported video formats is here:

Those YouTube clips playing on an iPhone are in the H.264 format. YouTube is in the process of encoding videos on the site as the H.264 format so they can all be viewable on the iPhone and AppleTV in higher video quality. They're adding more of these encoded videos each week until their full library is available in the H.264 format. ...Info taken from here.

You get the error message when you try to sync your MOV / M4V / MP4 files from your iTunes to your iPad? The files are playable in iTunes?
Then, you'll need to change their so-called H.264 level to 4.1 or below. If you have a Mac, you'll need to use Subler. See http://www.iphonelife.com/blog/87/watching-videos-taken-max-roundup-mkv-mp4m4v-v ideo-converters for a complete tutorial; start at the paragraph starting with "After this, it's worth clicking the video track in the upper list if you want to play the video back in the stock Videos app on your iDevice and not in a third-party one".
The background explanation for all this is to be found at http://www.iphonelife.com/blog/87/making-stock-videos-application-play-every-mp4 -files-possible . Note that it uses other, more akward utilities to do the level fixing. Again, if you have a Mac, Subler is your friend.

  • Video format not supported .mov file

I exported a slideshow from iphoto to quicktime with the following settings:
    1) Export: Custom Export: Movie to Quicktime
    Kind: Quicktime movie file Channels:stereo
size: 200.2 MB Total Bit Rate: 8268 kbps
Bit Rate: 1378 bps Video Dimensions: 1280x720
    Video Codec: H.264
It exports to iTunes, but does not sync to the ipad (video format not supported)
What is the best setting so I can get the highest quality?

In looking at the videos that I have, all of which work on my iPad, the ones which I purchased through the iTunes Store are Low Complexity with bit rates of 128 kbps. The ones that I converted by HandBrake for iOS devices are Low Complexity and 159 kbps. All of them are around 850 x 480, H.264.

I have recently been receiving the error message that some of my video podcasts cannot be copied to my iPod because the format is not supported. The crazy thing is that it is happening to video podcasts that I have been downloading & watching for awhile. Why has the video format suddenly changed from iTunes and how can I convert the file so that it will show up on my iPod?
Since several people have added to this thread with variations of the same problem, here's an explanation.
Although you do not state the title of the Podcats, the fact is they are not from the iTunes Store. All the iTunes Store does is list them and remember where they are stored, and this is somewhere chosen by the Podcast producer, who is not connected to iTunes or Apple. When you ask for a particular Podcast, the iTunes Store downloads it from the non-iTunes/Apple web site directly to your iTunes.
What has happened in your case is that the Podcast's producer has changed the format in which the Podcasts are available. Why? Possibly they have had to change their software and the new one either doesn't create iPod compatible Podcasts, or the producer does not know that they are not in the appropriate format. Contact the producer and let them know.
Don't forget, Podcasts are not exclusive to iPods. They are produced for everyone and used by anyone with an MP3 player or media player. In addition, there are now the newer HD (High Definition) video Podcasts available which will not play on an iPod because it doesn't have enough "processing power". Sometimes therefore, there will be occasions when video Podcasts will not play on an iPod. You could try selecting the episode and *Advanced/Convert selection for use on iPhone/iPod* but the conversion takes forever and will "strip out" the Podcast ID tags, therefore placing the video in the non-Podcasts section of your iPod.

  • Error message of "video format not supported" for ATV1 for files from iTunes

I have an ATV first generation, I had to redo my windows profile and now ATV is not syncing all my movies from iTunes. It says that ATV does not support the video format from movies I downloaded from Itunes.

I've had this happen with a whole bunch of files over time. Usually it's a disk timeout - it just took too long for iTunes to start streaming the file to the Apple TV. Sometimes it's that the file has been moved/deleted/'lost' as Alley_Cat describes. Sometimes I think that the file has too high a bit rate to play on the old Apple TV or the audio isn't suitable for it.

  • Photoshop Elements 11 - Video format not supported when importing files

I'm trying to make a gif using Photoshop Elements 11, but I can't seem to be able to find a video format to import that's supported. I go to File > Import > Frame from Video... then choose Browse and select the video I want, but it always tells me that video format is not supported - I've tried AVI, MPEG, MP4 and some others, and none seem to work. Any idea why?

Do you have Premiere Elements 11 as well as Photoshop Elements 11?
How are you importing your video into Premiere Elements 11 (assumed Windows)? Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets? Or are you moving it from the Elements Organizer into the Premiere Elements 11 Expert workspace? Does the video play back OK on any of your computer players (Premiere Elements not involved)?
Bottom line may very well be a problem with the availability of the MotionJPEG video codec to Premiere Elements.
The 3 remedies that one frequently sees:
    a. file conversion
    b. download, install of MotionJPEG codec
    c. grabbing appropriate codec from a camera utility if the camera has such a utility.
Please review and let us know if you have any further questions.
    Thanks.

  • Ipad will not transfer movies from itunes: error is video format not supported

Recently itunes will not transfer movies I have purchased from itunes.  I can still tranfer older movies, but the two latest purchased will not synch, it says the video format is not supported.  it seems odd that APPLE movies from APPLE itunes will not play on my APPLE ipad.  APPLE support was no help at all.  I have retored the ipad and updated the software to the most recent version and nothing has worked.

I am having same problem with iPad and 3GS phones. Did you figure out how to do it?

  • Quicktime exported "Video format not supported by the iPod".  Why?

    Any help appreciated.
-I just downloaded new version of quick time 7.6.4, alongside iTunes 9.00, paid for Quick time Pro, entered the key code successfully and the Pro-only options of Quick Time become available.
-I exported my quicktime video files "movie to iPod". (File type m4v).
    -Added file to iTunes library.
-When I sync my ipod (160GB "classic"), i get an error saying the "video format is not supported by the iPod". (I can watch downloads from the Itunes store without a problem.) It happens several times.
    Any suggestions?

I feel your angst on the Apple Rep poor communication skills, we've been there too, so as end users, we try to help other like yourself who comes up against a brick wall.
Your iPod classic firmware 2.0.4 support the following video format
H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 3.0 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
Most likely the resolution or bitrate doesn't fall into the supported Video spec.
If you are using a Mac, I suggest you download a free video converter, called handbrake
You can also Google for other version of the video convertor if you are using Windows.

  • Itunes rented movie "video format not supported" by ipad?

I just rented 3 movies in the iTunes Store.  They all downloaded to iTunes successfully.  They are all SD, not HD.  When I try to move them to the iPad and sync, I get a message saying that the movies cannot be played on this iPad because the video format is not supported.
I have rented movies before and played them successfully.  What do I do now?
iPad is about 6 months old, 32 GB Wi-Fi, running iOS 6.1.3.

I'm not sure why they don't play ...
But I wonder why you wouldn't simply update your iPad to iOS 7.0.4 and see if that solves the issue.

  • Why do I get an error that a Youtube video format not supported on the iPad?

I am trying to view some YouTube videos but am receiving this error. I thought YouTube was compatible.

For viewing YouTube videos you would be best using the built in YouTube Application as opposed to going to the www.youtube.com website.
The website via Safari will have some videos that are in a format the iPad is unable to read, using the Application specifically should only show those Videos that are compatible.

  • I can't get video attachments in gmail to play on my macbook pro.  2 month old macbook pro running lion. says format not supported

I can't get video attachments in gmail to play on my macbook pro.  Says format not supported.

What kind of video?  There are dozens of formats, some don't play on a Mac unless you have the right plug-ins for Quicktime.  There are some things you should download to help you out.
    http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac-wmv/overview.htm
    http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html
These should cover EVERYTHING you'd ever encounter (though maybe not).  Frankly, if it's not H.264 or w4v (or both), it doesn't belong on your mac.

  • 6280 - MiniSD card - File formats not supported

Just bought a new 6280 this week which came with the usual 64mb MiniSD card. I've installed this ok and the phone recognises it but ...... for some reason when I try to play the video clips and music files that are on the card the phone comes back with the message 'File format not supported'. Looking at the files they all seem to be 3gp, mp4 or acc which in theory are supported.
This is wierd because I can play the Tones stored on the phone's own memory, some of which are also aac type files! And I've downloaded a couple of 3gp type vid clips from the O2 wap site and these play ok too!!
Anybody else had this problem before I take it back to the shop?!?

Me too - I need to send the phone back by tomorrow if I'm not going to keep it. Dont understand why file formats are not supported or one track is too big for memory. Wanted to buy a 2GB memory card and card reader - I have been advised that is the way to store music directly to memory card as nokia is set to store it to the phone memory by default. Help - dont know what to do!!
I use a 2Gb card with my 6280, and it works flawlessly. I haven't encountered any file problems. The file system used on the cards is FAT32, which means filesizes up to 2 Gb.
Connected to a PC, the card is seen as a mass storage device. All files can be stored on the card through the phone, even those he can't read (e.g. Word documents, Excel sheets, ZIP files).
Using a cardreader is not necessarily 'better'. The 6280 comes with high speed USB 2.0 connectivity (through Nokia's proprietary connection cable), which is as fast as they come. So no problems there either.
If you have problems try the card on a computer system or other phone. It might be that the memory card is at fault.
