My keyboard has gone crazy

My keyboard has gone crazy: When typing all the upper letters (q,w,e,r,t,y,u,i,o,p,å,) at the same time the number above (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0) is also typing. Somehow I must have activated an effect whiteout knowing it. Pleas help me back to standard keyboard

Like a detectives at a clue-free crime scene, we have dreadfully little information that we can use to help you.
What Mac model and submodel?
What Mac OS version?
What brand and model of keyboard?
Is the behavior limited to just one or two programs or does it happen in all programs?

  • My keyboard has gone crazy!  Please help!

I just bought my iMac G5 earlier this month, right before the new iMacs came out. It has been working fine until two days ago. The keyboard stopped working, as in you cannot type anything, but if you click the mouse in the address bar of the safari browser or any other text area, you will see that the spacebar or random letters will write themselves over and over again. If you just happen to nudge or lift the keyboard off of the desk, the volume will sky-rocket and this annoying beeping will ensue. I went into my disc utility and verified and repaired my volumes and it did find errors and it did correct them. After that my keyboard worked again. Last night I came home and found that my iMac's keyboard was at it again and making those horrible error noises and the keyboard did not work. I want to wipe my HD with my startup disc but I cannot access that since I need the C button to initiate the process. As I said before, this is a very new machine and I have very little files on it, which have already been backed up, so it shouldn't be a memory problem. I will probably be calling the help line tonight, but any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Oh and I forgot to mention, it is not a wireless keyboard.

You still have time left on your phone tech help, so call Apple and discuss this with them. It sounds like a faulty keyboard that needs to be replaced or an internal problem, but whatever it is, let Apple sort it out for you.

Ok; I'm not sure what you're doing.    36 hours is rather long.  Seems like a new migration.  Not what I intended.
Here's what I intended: from the newly-migrated and apparently-corrupt environment, create a new user, not related to any existing user, nor any migration-created user, or any other user for that matter.  That is, use  > System Preferences > Users and Groups, authenticate yourself by clicking on the padlock, and then click the + and create a wholly new user.  Then log in under that user and establish the mail access.
36 hours?  I'm wondering if there's an error or an exceedingly slow network here?  Or a really, really slow disk?  Or a sick backup?  (WiFi isn't the path I'd usually choose, either.)
Failing the attempted second migration, I'd try a different tactic.  Does your existing (old) system work?   If so, I'd bypass the backup and connect an external (scratch) USB disk drive to the (old) sstem and then boot and use Disk Utility booted from the installer DVD disk or boot and use Disk Utility from the recovery partition or booted from a recovery partition created on some other external storage (details here vary by the OS X version and what hardware you have), and perform a full-disk backup of your original internal disk to (scratch) external storage.  (Make sure you get the source and target disks chosen correctly here; copying the wrong way — from the scratch disk to your existing disk — will clobber your data!)  In esssence, this will clone your existing boot disk.  Then dismount the (formerly-scratch) external disk, transfer it over to the new system, and use it as the source of the migration, by performing a fresh OS X installation on the new system.
Target Disk Mode is also sometimes an option for accessing the disk for a migration, but that requires the right cable, and requires systems that have the same external connection; newer MacBook Pro systems use Thunderbolt for this, and older systems tend to use FireWire.  And I'm guessing you don't have compatible hardware.
The details here can and do vary by your OS X versions and your particular Mac systems — if you'll identify the specific models and hardware, somebody might be able to better tailor the above (fairly generic) sequence to your particular configuration.

HELP HELP HELP PLEASE I REALLY NEED MY IPHONE.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If basic troubleshooting does not resolve, take the device to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.
Be aware that the iPhone warranty is NOT International.  You will need to either return to the US with the device and take it to Apple or ship it to someone you know in the US to take it to Apple.

  • Help, my system has gone crazy!

My imac G5 running Leopard, 10.58 Processor 18 GHz, Memory 2GB has gone crazy.  I cannot open ITunes.  If I try to download a small file it says my memory is nearly full and I need to clear disk space.  Okay I have a few songs on iTunes and 7,900 photos on iPhoto, but that is all.  I try to open a document in Word and it says 'you are working without a Word work file and your memory is nearly full'. I am not receiving e-mails when I know they have been sent. What is happening?

Don't worry about Filevault, likely you're not using it if you don't know what it is, but...

Less than 2GB free is very dangerous, you could loose everything as it's not really free space for our use.
An 80GB drive is really too small for later versions of OSX, you need to free up at the very least another 10 to 20GB.

  • My 3GS has gone crazy

I have a 3Gs that has gone crazy. Out of a sudden, voice control starts, plays music and even makes calls sometimes, the phone starts switching between applications (closes and opens them) and I can't do anything to stop it even when I touch the cancel button. It does this over and over again. At the same time this problem happened, the home button stopped working. Well it works sometimes when I restart the phone but not always. I don't think it's a matter of pressing the button hard because when it works, it's always the same press I use as before.
I upgraded to iOS4 but the problem still exists. I hope someone out there can give a hand.
    Thanks

I did restore the device couple of times and I still have the same problem .. And on more thing, everytime I restored it, I get a msg on iTunes that the device is in recovery mode and that I had to restore the device!!

  • Help! my ical has gone crazy!

i do not know what happened but ever since it became 2006 my ical has been very confused about what date it is. sometimes it shows dates correctly but usually it is a day off. for example, right now the large calendar view is telling me that today is saturday, feb 10. it IS saturday, but it's the 11th. What has gone wrong? the miniature view is telling me that today is friday, feb 10.
in addition to these problems, when i add a new event it won't allow me to put the correct times in. if i want to set an appointment for 8:00 i have to type in the number 6. i know that sounds really weird, but it's true. for the lower numbers like 1 and 2 there is nothing i can do because in ical world 1 is actually 3 and 2 is actually 4, etc.
this is the strangest thing that has ever happened and is getting me very confused about my schedule.

  • Bluetooth keyboard has gone bonkers

Recently, my Bluetooth keyboard has been spazzing out. Everything is fine and then (boom) it just starts acting as though a key is being held down. I've been using this keyboard and machine (PPC Mini) for three years, and the problem is recent. I dialed back the keyboard repeat rate and delays, but to no avail.
The problem seemed to have kicked in after I opened up the machine to blow out some dust. The fan seemed to have been running more than usual even though top showed that the CPU was mostly idle. I reopened the machine and adjusted the routing of the antenna wires for the WLAN (which is deactivated via software) and the BT, but the problem persists. I don't have another kb and machine handy to see if the problem is in one vs the other. Any other ideas?

It is possibly time to buy a new keyboard. Is it the same key all the time? Get a can of compressed air and give the keyboard a good blow through. It's probably a good idea to buy a cheap non-Mac keyboard to keep around for backup.

  • My wireless keyboard that came with my iMac has gone crazy after changing batteries

Try resetting the pram and SMC
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

    MacBook and MacBook Pro
Laptops with a battery you can remove
    Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
    Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Newer Mac portables with a battery you don't remove
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • MY BLUETOOTH HAS GONE CRAZY!

Ok. I have been using my macbook well for over a year.
Throughout the year, my bluetooth has worked fine with my apple bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
Occasionally the "no bluetooth hardware" error occurs but a quick restart always fixed it.
Today the problem was more aggressive in that it just won't find it period. I tried everything i found on this discussion forum and finally got it to work after the PRAM reset thing.
NOW... the bluetooth has a mind of its own. It appears and disappears whenever it wants. seriously! my keyboard would work and in middle my typing... just suddenly stop. Then 5 minutes later... i noticed it would work again and suddenly stop. Then suddenly work. etc.
The bluetooth icon in the menu bar changes its status every 2 minutes.
Whatta heck is going on here and how can I fix it?!?!?

I would try four things in order, some of which you may have already done.
    1. Run software update.
    2. Reset the SMC - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411?viewlocale=en_US
    3. Run the Apple Hardware Test
    4. Archive and install

  • My iPod has gone crazy

I recently received a new iPod from Apple that because my old wasn't working. This one has been having problems too. At first, it would sometimes start to skip songs, (with a little rewind symbol constantly in the corner where the play symbol was supposed to go) and I had to run the battery down and recharge it to get it to go away.
Then it stopped playing any songs, it would just go to the next song on the album without playing any one. Then when I let the battery run down, it was frozen on the Apple icon when I recharged it with the charger. Then I plugged it into the computer and it showed the charging symbol that means you need to plug it into the charger for the first time.
So I did, and it loaded the iPod like the time I first got it and asked what language I wanted it in and all my songs were gone. Now every time I plug it into the computer iTunes won't recognize it, and every time I unplug it it resets itself again and asks me for the language and I still can't put any songs on it.
    HELP??
