My keyboard lights up but doesn't work at all except for the on button.

I just purchased the late 2013 macbook pro , new Mac user here and I was loving it until a few moments ago
Basically my keyboard is lit and everything "appears to be working"
But neither the keyboard or keypad is responding at all , the only thing that works is the on button
But that's no help because the on button seems to put my Mac only on standby as opposes to restarting it completely like on windows
What should I do ? Why are all of the buttons unresponsive except for on ?

Power button
If you press hold the power button for about 1.5 second slleep function will be initiated.
If ypu press and hold the power button for 5 secondsor more, Mac will shutdown.
Keyboard
Reset PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/ph14222
Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:
    "Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
If this does not help, contact Apple.
A new Mac is in warranty for 1 year from the date of purchase.

Hi Kappy Thanks for your answer. I did a reboot on my Macbook as suggested and this operation is going on non stop for 14 hours and on the screen always appears the same message that you can see in the picture in attachment. Any ideas?

Caps Lock lights up but doesn't work in Mac OS (but does in Windows)

My Caps Lock button lights up but caps do not work in any Leopard programs. If I hold down the Shift key then caps will work.
However, I have Parallels and caps lock DOES work when running Windows.
I checked the Modifier Keys settings in keyboard preferences and they are set to the default.
I am new to Apple and have a Mac Book Pro that I bought in Spring 2008.

Hi Steve, Welcome to apple discussions.
Hmm, that is a strange problem. Well, you've already done what I would suggest which is to go to the keyboard settings and click the "Restore defaults" button in the modifier keys window and try again. If that doesn't work then you can restart the computer and check. If that doesn't work you can try to reset the pram. Hold the optioncommand+PR buttons after you hear the startup chime, it should chime again, I let it chime a third time just for good measure and see if things look better.
If that fails then you can try making another account and seeing if the caps lock works in the new account. There might be some strange error on your account that would be corrected for in a new account. After that it gets more labor intensive. Do a system re-install, do an erase and install.
You might consider a trip to the apple genius bar there in Honolulu if can. The should be able to run through all that for you. You're still under warrantee so take advantage and get some help.
Oh, and just a disclaimer that I learned from Adam on the maccast podcast. Make a full, complete backup including a time machine and bootable (like superduper or carbon copy cloner) disk before you do any of the above or take the unit it for service.

Keyboard lights up but won't work

I have a 2010 13" MacBook Pro with the 2.66GHz processor and 4gigs of ram. Yesterday when I was using it, the screen went yellow and the fan started spinning quickly so I turned it off. Now when I restart the computer, I get to the login screen, and the keyboard is fully illuminated but I can't type anything or move the cursor with the trackpad. Even my apple wireless keyboard and magic mouse won't work even though they normally would at that login screen.
I tried doing the apple hardware test and it said that there was no problem. The fact that I was able to hold down the 'd' key and get it to start the hardware test shows that the keyboard isn't broken, so I don't know why it isn't working.

Isight Light on but Doesn't work

I turned on my computer today and the isight green light is automatically on. However when I was trying to access photobooth and ichat, the camera does not work at all. I've also turned off and restarted but the light is still on, and the same operations still do not work. As far as I can see, there's nothing that I've done to effect such a change. Much help appreciated, even basically how to turn off isight as I can't seem to find a way to do so!?

Try the suggestions re: Built-in iSight in How to Troubleshoot iSight.
If you use a HP printer/scanner, you might also consider parkersal's fix here.
Even if reset or some other suggestion correct your problem, you should update to 10.4.9 to take advantage of its many fixes and other improvements over older versions of 10.4.x. For best results, I suggest you use the following method:- Backup your Home Folder, or at very least, your important files.
- Repair permissions.
- Then download and apply the new Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update (iNtel).
- Finish with another Permissions Repair, and then check your iSight again.If you still have the problem, unless you get better suggestions here, I think you should see your Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

Spilled water on my ipod touch, now doesn't work, lost all my information, and now buttons don't preform the correct function...

So somehow water spilled in my backpack and got onto my ipod. I didn't realize this until i got home and plugged my ipod into the computer to see if it would finally turn on. The computer said it couldn't read my ipod and the only thing I could do was restore it. So I lost everything. Pictures, Paid Apps and Music, and I'm really sad and disappointed about that but now i will press the power button to wake my ipod and it will sometimes turn my sound up on headphones? And it says I have headphones plugged in, but I don't. My ipod is just really messed up can someone help me! Its 2nd Generation 8GB!

Do not turn the iPod on anymore untill it is dry. Dry as explained here:

Unless you had backed up some of your data to iCloud, there's no way to get it back with the exception of previous iTunes purchases which can be redownloaded.

How can I view duplicates and remove them in my IPOD....doesn't work in itunes except at the library level.

I don't think it is possible to use that feature on an iPod. I do have a deduping script for use in iTunes which I might be able to modify to process tracks on a device, however I don't have anything set up in manual mode for testing right now.
FWIW having the only copy of your tracks on your iPod is not ideal. If they were all in your library you wouldn't have so much of a problem deduping and could survivie loss, theft or failure of the device.

FIrefox 4 beta does not work anymore. Directly after start-up (my homepage is showing) is firefox hanging, showing an hour glass. No button, URL or whatever can be used, except for the close button. But even after closing firefox, it keeps on running.

Even after closing down the application, the firefox task remains running in the background and must be killed with Windows Task Control.
Even deinstalling and installing the latest beta version does not solve it. Unfortunately I have to use Google Chrome Now.

Ok. I disabled hardware acceleration. The only extension is the McAfee Scriptscan for Firefox 15.1.0, which was already disabled. I then disabled all plugins (Acrobat, Google Update, Intel Identity Protection (2x), Java Deployment Toolkit, Java Platform, MS Office 2013, Quicktime, Shockwave, Silverlight), which were all up to date.
Normal or safe mode still has same result. No startup, no option button and no customize.

We can't know if there's a "fixture" because we can't examine your phone. But Apple can. Make a Genius Bar appointment and get your phone evaluated.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that all of your iPhone sounds are working as expected except for the Sent Mail sound. I understand that you have already changed the Sent Mail sound as well as reset your iPhone and the issue persists. In this situation, to isolate the issue, I would first recommend backing up your iPhone to either iTunes or iCloud.
Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support
After you have backed up, I would recommend restoring your iPhone and setting it up as new to test the Sent Mail sound. If the sound works as expected, try restoring from your backup and test the sound again. Please let me know if the issue returns or if the sound still does not work when you set up your iPhone as a new device.

KEYBOARD DOESN'T WORK IN ALL JAVA APPS

I think there are a bug with Java,
but some keys of my French keyboard doesn't work with ALL Java APPS (Solaris Management console...), but work fine with all other apps.
When I use Xsun, there are no problem, all keys work, but with Xorg, some keys doesn't work. (Only in Java Apps).
I had got this bug with Sun Solaris 10 and Sun Solaris 11 (6/05 Express)
This is a very nasty bug, I have got a PS/2 keyboard.
