My keyboard won't connect to imac

I have a 2011 imac that has worked fine for several months but I recently installed some bad ram that caused my computer to do some crazy things.  It stopped recognizing the wireless keyboard that came with it and has been used with it for 6 months.  I have turned on the discoverable and the bluetooth, and the mouse still works fine.  Sometimes it sees the keyboard and it just won't pair with it, and sometimes it won't see it at all.  I don't know if there is a way to reset the keyboard or something.  just kinda stuck on what to do with the situation.  Any ideas?
I was running 10.7.5 when the  issue started, but have updated to 10.8.2 now in hopes that that might help but it hasn't changed anything.

Select  ▹ System Preferences ▹ Bluetooth. Select the device in the list on the left, then from the action menu (gear icon) below the list, select Update Services. If there's no improvement, delete the pairing from the list and recreate it.

Impossible, there are zero, as in none, zip, nadda viruses for OS X. If you have viruses on it they are for MS Windows and will not affect OS X. I suspect the hard disk has crashed, if you have backup then it's not a big deal to have it changed, just take it into your local Apple Store or AASP for service. If you have not been backing it up you may be in for a painful lesson on why backup is critical.

  • My Apple wireless keyboard won't connect to my Mac mini any more.

My Apple wireless keyboard won't connect to my Mac mini any more. Going through the Bluetooth Setup Assistant doesn't help - the computer finds the keyboard, but when I type in the pass code it fails to pair with it. The green LED on the bottom of the keyboard flashes twice at roughly two-second intervals. I've tried replacing the batteries and this has had no effect. I have all the latest software updates installed.

    Welcome Cheirhandrea!
There are easily hundreds of variants of the iMac dating back to 1998. Many of the pre-2006 iMacs this forum covers cannot support an Apple wireles keyboard. Because this model has been in production for so long, it is important for you to let us know as much about your computer as possible so someone won't give you information that may not be appropriate to your iMac variant.
    So we need to know:
    1) Your processor type and Mac OSX version, both available by doing "About this Mac" from your Apple menu at the left end of the menu bar:
    2) The make and model of the keyboard.
I asked for your Mac OS version because "iOS" as currently shown in your equipment profile cannot run on any Mac computer, only Apple's mobile devices. Once you get the OS version from "About this Mac," please change your profile to avoid further confusion and get help faster without the delay of someone having to ask for clarification before they can start helping.

  • Zagg keyboard won't connect to iPad ever since upgrade to iOS 7.1.2

Ever since I updated my iPad 3 to iOS 7.1.2, my Zagg keyboard won't connect to my iPad. I get the code but whenever i type it in I get no reaction. And after a few seconds I get "make sure your device is on and in range." Can someone please tell me a fix for this I've reset network settings, deleted the keyboard from the known list of devices and full charged my keyboard. Nothing's helping.

I have a Zagg KB and it works well.
First reset the iPad by holding the home and power keys down until the Apple logo appears (15-20 seconds).
Be sure (stating the obvious) Bluetooth is turned on. Turn the Zagg KB on...it should start to hunt for the wireless network. Press the connect button on the Zagg KB - the red light should begin to blink. On the iPad (settings>Bluetooth) click on the Zagg.

  • My wireless Apple keyboard won't connect, it just keeps blinking to pair, but nothing connects. I even tried hooking up another wireless I have and it does the same thing. Should I delete it and set it up again?

    Hey Apple Health,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities! There's an article that helps to resolve issues with wireless keyboards. I'd take a look at it, go through the troubleshooting steps, and see if that resolves the issue for you:

of course you need a working mouse to go through these steps....i think everyone should keep a usb set on hand to resolve these kinds of issues.....

  • IMac won't go past apple screen, keyboard won't connect

I cannot get my iMac to boot up past the apple screen with the loading circle. I would try booting up while holding the command and R keys or those other options, but my computer stopped working the one time my keyboard died and I had to change the batteries. Now it won't connect, and therefore will not register me holding down any keys. Are there any other options?

Restart the computer while holding down the C key. This will take several minutes to start up as it trying to start from the Install Disc. If you still cannot get it started call AppleCare immediately, the phone number is in your manual or you can
    look it up here.

  • I just got an iMac and when I started to set it up it required the keyboard to type, but the keyboard won't connect. I can't use my iMac without it please answer

    Wireless keyboard won't connect

Since it's a new machine, contact Apple's Support and let them deal with it. You have 90 days free phone support, unless you opted for the AppleCare Protection Plan, which I strongly recommend for desktop machines.

  • Have a flashing folder with a question mark on start-up but cannot hold option as wireless keyboard won't connect, how do I get it to connect if I cannot turn on the machine?

Hello all, I've registered here because I can't work out how to get my keyboard and mouse to connect.
The issue is that when I turn my mid-2010 iMac on it doesn't load up, but instead shows a flashing folder with a question mark. I've Googled this and have some idea how to fix it, the first step in all guides to fixing the problem states that you should hold the option key upon start-up. The problem I'm having is that I've just had to change the batteries on my keyboard and mouse and they are now not connecting. I can't see how to get the keyboard and mouse connected with the Mac stuck on the flashing folder screen, and I can't get the Mac past said screen without using the keyboard. Does anyone know how I can connect the two devices?
    Thanks.

The flashing folder with the ? mark indicates that a bootable system can't be found. You'll need to borrow a wired keyboard so you can boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down). From there you can reinstall the system and try a normal reboot.

  • Aluminum Cordless Keyboard Loses Bluetooth Connectivity to iMac 24" 2.4ghz

I sent my keyboard that came with my iMac back to  for a replacement it was a
cordless Aluminum Keyboard it would lose it's connection with my iMac's BT
or did the iMac lose it's Bluetooth ?
I now have a new keyboard same type cordless Aluminum and it's doing the
same thing I will go to the BT Menu Bar and it says
no BT items connected I've Zapped the P-ram
repaired permissions, unchecked for Bluetooth to wake
computer in Energy settings and I've read where a clean install
doesn't help. Has anyone figured this out as I don't believe this
started happening until the 10.5.2 update
_I have installed all updates and Firmware updates also._

I called  on 4.23.08 and they are saying
that my iMac 24" 2.4ghz may have a bad or
loose BT Connection inside of the iMac itself
they are sending me a USB Keyboard for my trouble
and they told me to take my iMac into a  Retailer
to have it checked out to see if indeed that my
iMac's BT chip is loose or is bad so that is the route
I'm going to take and I greatly appreciate all the help
and to answer about the Sharing Bluetooth hasn't been on
on this Mac ever so I know that isn't the problem
I threw the BT Preferences away but that didn't help either
hope we can find out what's going on..!
I will leave this discussion open until I take
my iMac for service and if the BT is bad on the iMac
or is loose that would explain it if not we will
keep digging until we find out something...!

  • Internet won't connect on imac but works on other devices

new-ish 20inch imac won't connect to any wireless networks (our own and the coffee shop next door)  but other devices (iphones, macbooks) will.....this imac is used as a register in my retail store and without internet we are unable to process credit card transactions..we are losing business. HELP!!! thank you!!!

    HI,
In most cases this is about the Internet Speed or the portion of it your computer gets that iChat can see at the moment it tests the speed during it's launch process.
That is to say that as you start up ichat it tests the speed it can see.
this can be effected by other computer doing a download and "taking" more of the Bandwidth or rather leaving a smaller amount for your Mac.
The same is true if your computer is already doing a download or using the Internet heavily.
Of course at that moment your ISP could also have cut the speed you get.
If you launch iChat and go to the Video Menu > Connection Doctor what does the Capabilities tab say ?
This may have red crosses against some items.
Also check iChat Menu > Preferences > Video Section > Bandwidth Limit
This should not be set at 100kbps fro Video chats.
Have you tried restarting the computer ?

  • Keyboard won't connect

We have an Apple wireless keyboard that is not connecting.
I have replaced the batteries with new lithium batteries and the little green light is on now.
Since the keyboard is not connected I can not log in to pair the keyboard with the iMac.
How can we re-establish the link?

If MGW's suggestion does not work, suggest that you cross-post over @ the Bluetooth Keyboard/Mouse Forums where the wireless folks hang out.

    Hello:
It sounds like a Microsoft issue. Why not see if the great cloud in the sky in Washington has an answer - perhaps on their web site. The reason lies somewhere in the Windows system, I suspect.
Also, are there drivers that need to be installed in Windows (as you know, on a Mac they are plug and play)?
Additionally, here are a bunch of FAQ's that may be helpful:
