(My Labview built executable) has encountered a problem and needs to close.

All,
I've built a labview executable that interfaces with GPIB and the Texas Instruments EV2300 via USB.
The VI runs beautifully on the development machine, and I built the VI into an executable and it runs fine on the development machine.  So I built an installer that installs the Labview 2010 runtime environment on the target computer.  I ran the installer on a production line computer that I know can run GPIB and the EV2300, but when I try to start the executable I get an error that says "(your application) has encountered an error and needs to close."
I can get labview executables that don't talk to GPIB or USB to run on the target machine, so it's not the runtime environment.  And I have VB6 applications that can run the GPIB and EV2300 interfaces without a hitch.
I'm not doing anything weird with the file paths in my program, just creating paths from strings using the canned VI for converting strings to paths.  In the course of the program, I read a few text files and write one.
Is there anything I need to know about how to build an application with an installer?  I need to get this up and running so the test program can run on a production line.

Sounds like a VISA problem. Download and install the latest VISA runtime on the target machine.
Ditto that!  At least One of the installed drivers on the target does not have LabVIEW 2010 support.  Check MAX and NI.com to resolve all the drivers on the target that have no support for 2010.
And yes, you may need to re-qualify the pre-existing exe's- if their code changes to use the new drivers If you are in a heavilly regulated industry.   If so, It might be easier to build in an older LabVIEW version.  Very sad- but it might even be simpler to incorporate the Unit Test Framework to handle regession testing of older code with newer drivers.
Worse-  What if the exe's were built with a legacy version of LabVIEW that is no longer supported by the latest Drivers?
Time to start thinking of life cycle maintenance plans- with a 5 year upgrade required!

  • LabVIEW 8.6 has encountered a problem and needs to close.

In my program, I open and close a comport.
When closing my VI, I the a popup saying "LabVIEW 8.6  has encountered a problem and needs to close."
Why is this, could this be a memory leak?
Is there any utilities to analyse my VI to find the cause?

    Thanks for your reply James.
Do I need the Professional Development suite for the VI Analyzer ? I've only got the Full Development suite.
It happens 2 in every 3 times, and sometimes very random.
I open the comport (visa), send some data, which then causes the comport to continuously send data back. I close the comport
at this stage. Read in reviews, that I need to flush the receive buffer, so I do this the moment before I close the port.
So, I suspect there is data in the receive buffer, when I close the port, and this gives me the error.....? Could this be true?

  • Lookout Direct error: "Logos executable has encountered a problem and needed to close."

I'm using Lookout Direct 4.5.1 (build 19) and see the following error after logging in to Windows XP Home:
Logos executable encountered a problem and needed to close.
I created a new process, added a hypertrend object, saved, rebooted, and the error did not occur after the first reboot but started again after subsequent reboots.
I spoke with Automation Direct tech support and they recommended typing the following two commands at a command prompt:
    lktsrv -remove
    lktsrv -install -manual
I tried this, rebooted and the error persisted.  Any ideas on what else to do here?
Yesterday I had been working on finishing up a project using Lookout Direct and this error started occuring.  I reformatted the computer, reinstalled Lookout Direct and had no problems.  Today the error started again.  The only other software I had installed on this PC was Automation Direct's DirectSoft 5.
The guy I spoke with at Automation Direct said there was once a form or post on NI's site detailing a method to fix this problem but since recent website changes he is no longer able to find it.  Is anyone here familiar with that?
    Best regards,
    Dave

I saw the Logos executable error twice more and also ran into a "waiting on time service error" when opening Lookout Direct, the latter of which prevented Lookout Direct from opening at all.
In both cases removing and reinstalling the services fixed the problem (reboot afterwards).  If anyone is dealing with either of these errors I'd suggest typing the following into a command prompt (start -> run -> cmd):
    lktsrv -remove
    lktsrv -install -manual
    lkcitdl -remove
    lkcitd -install -manual
You should see a dialog box which requires you to click OK and states that removal was successful after the two -remove commands.

  • Oracle intelligent agent executable has encountered a problem and needs to

    Hi All,
I am getting the following message after commence of OS (windows XP) on my LAPTOP.
"Oracle Intelligent Agent Executable has Encountered a Problem and needs to close."
due to the above problem it takes time to be fit to start working. that is; when i start my laptop then it gets ready very shortly but just later on it is seen that my laptop gets to be hanged. it seems that some background process runs and during this time nothing can be done on my laptop (even REFRESH - F5 doesn't respond). then after some time the above message comes. this process seems to be very much annoying.
there is a small Oracle database (9i) in my laptop along with Oracle developer (10g).
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Tapash,
You probably don't want/need that service to run anyway. So go to your control panel/Adminstrative Tools/Services
and set Start Type to Manual for Oracle<ORACLE_HOME_NAME>Agent service

  • Teststand generates error ' labview has encountered a problem and needs to close'

    Hi,
I am using Teststand 3.1 and Labview 7.1.
My problem is that I have a 1D array of 6 elements in Labview that I need to receive from Teststand.
If the array size is set to variable in Labview there is no problem but if I set it to what I require ( fixed 6 ) then when I specify module in Teststand an error message appears , ' LAbview.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close '. Then I get an 18001 about ActiveX as labview has closed.
Why does this happen ?, is it a bug ?

    No bother its attached !
The vi writes to a global variable.
The 'Bytes To Send ' 1D array seems to be the trouble, If its set to fixed 6 in LV then Labview crashes from Teststand when I specify module.
If its set to variable its ok.

  • LV 8.6 will Not Compile in LV 2010 - Labview 10.0 Development System Has Encountered a Problem and Needs to Close

I submitted this support request to NI on 8/12/2010.
When I compile my LV 8.6 app in LV2010 I get this error:
"LabVIEW 10.0 Development System has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."
I was told to do a "Mass Compile" of my LV 8.6 app in LV2010...this failed too.
I was then told to go to each and every vi and "Mass Compile" individually...after about the 50th vi this got old quickly...and it still didn't compile.  I then sent NI tech support "my code".  The good news is my LV 8.6 app didn't compile with LV2010 @ NI.
My LV 8.6 app compiles and runs great in LV 8.6.  I don't want to be left behind with the newer upgrades and I want to move to LV2010.  I have lots of LV8.6 code to maintain and I really don't have the time to debug all of my apps.
I was told this will be looked @ in LV2010 SP1.
One note...back up your LV8.6 data before you move to LV2010.  Once your LV8.6 code is compiled in LV2010 you will not be able to go back to LV8.6.
I restored all of my LV8.6 code and I'm back working with LV8.6.
It's a tough call, do I stay in LV8.6 and get left behind?
Do I bite the bullet and try to debug this mess in LV2010?
I was told the compiler is completely different in LV2010.  That's great, but one reason I have NI Maintenance Agreement is to keep updated with the latest software.  I can't afford to re-compile LV code every few years.  Like most people, maintaining my Apps with customer's revisions, and modifications is enough work.  I don't want more work!
I was told LV2010 SP1 would likely appear in May or June of 2011.  I'd hate to break out my old Turbo Pascal apps again...but hey...they still work!  My NI maintenance agreement is due this month too, I guess I'll pay NI one more year, and see if they come up with a solution.  But if NI doesn't fix this LV8.6 compile in LV2010 problem...I don't see any value staying current with LV software.
I found another Bug with LV2010...you are going to love this one!
There is a new "LV Update Service".  Perfect!  I like updating my LV software when new patches are available.  When I click "update" the update spins over and over "Checking for New Version".  I have let it run ALL day with no results...just sits and spins over and over.
OK, I know give NI a break!  Yes, LV2010 has a new compiler...and Yes, I will renew my NI maintenance agreement.  I just want NI to know failing to compile just one LV8.6 app in LV2010 is not a good idea for customer relations.
    Thanks,
    Doug

  • "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close."  Anyone?

"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close." This is what, i get whenever I try to sign onto my Itunes. I have had an Itunes account since 2005 and have never had a problem with upgrades. Then I try to upgrade to 8.0 3 months ago, and haven't been able to fix it since.
My husband just recieved an Ipod for xmas, and want to be able to access Itunes.
So, again, I deleted it from my PC and tried downloading 8.0 and previous versions and still get the samething. "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close." Any suggestions?

I have a computer with *Microsoft XP Home Edition* software:
After spending DAYS trying to uninstall/install itunes for our new Ipod Nano, I read the article about deleting 'Quicktime' from System32. This alone did not work for me, so I did a 'Start/Search' and entered 'Quicktime' and searched all my hard drives. I removed all entries found to the recycle bin. Then I did the same for 'itunes', removing entries to the recycle bin. I think I had a lot of miscellaneous old garbage stored on disk that caused install problems.
*LOW & BEHOLD*, I was able to install and 'EXECUTE' itunes. Hope this helps.

  • "DataSocket Server has encountered a problem and needs to close" - why?

I am trying to use DataSocket to publish a Front Panel control. First I start the DataSocket Server and then run a corresponding VI. It goes well once or twice but in the end DataSocket Server crashes producing an error message and offering to send an error report to Microsoft:
"National Instruments DataSocket Server has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience".
I wonder if there is any remedy for this. Windows firewall does not seem to be the cause - the crash happens with the firewall disabled.
Alternatively - is there any way other than using DataSocket to dynamically access data from a running VI?
    Regards,
    Danielis

    Hi Danielis
This kind of errors usally occurs when there is a file corruption. In either the application of the configuration files. The Datasocket configuration is save in the 'cwdssini.dss' file. this is by default installed in 'C:\Program Files\National Instruments\DataSocket'. Yu could try and remove this and then run the Datasocket Server Manager once to recreate a file with default settings.
We it is a problem with the Application you could try and install a fresh copy on a other machine and run the VI and server on that machine. Or just run the server on the other machine and connact you Front panel object to that server instead.
As for other ways of doing this you could look into the Shared Variables that have been introduced in LabVIEW 8
    Hope this helps

I'm curious how you are running this code within excel as I would expect you would've had to write a dll to expose the SDK as COM in order to be able to access it from an excel document.

Please can anybody help for me.
    with regards,
    srinivas.

When working with mixed environments you should make sure the path environment variable is consistent with the executables you are currently running, and try not to mix them, i.e. if you are working with the sqlplus from 9i, make sure you execute the sqlplus.exe file from the 9i oracle home and temporarily by means of a batch file put your Oracle Home 9i executables prior to those of 10g , and the other way around, when executing from the 10g make sure all executables and paths are consistent. It should be easier since when installing oracle, oracle configures the PATH environment variable so it can be seen first in the path environment variable.
In your case you are using two compatible versions, but if the dll's get mixed there could be unexpected results.

I'm running LabView 7.1 on a Win XP machine.  I started using

Everything went fine until this morning, when I turned on the computer
and immediately got an error message saying "NIMax has encountered a
problem and needs to close. "  It came up several more times in
rapid succession, and comes up several times when I tried to run my
previously working Labview vi.  It happens every time I start up

but the suggestions therein haven't helped me fix the problem
Things I've tried: reinstalling the latest version of NI-IMAQ, unplugging the network cable.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
Also, reinstalling all of Labview will be a pain because the discs are
kept by the department software admin, who is on vacation.
    Thanks.

    Hello Ian_runs,
Have you tried uninstalling the NI MAX program?  Or just tried to
reinstall the drivers?  I would reccomend uninstalling NI MAX
(this will require you to uninstall other software as well) through the
control panel and reinstalling the drivers.  Where there any
changes in the system (new software, new hardware, etc.) when it
started displaying this behavior?  It sounds like the installation
    got corrupted.
