My Lacie Rugged Keeps Ejecting Firewire

My Lacie keeps ejecting it's self.
I'm on a mac book pro. (Latest Update)
Firewire 800
Lacie Rugged.
Worried I will lose all my work.

Lacie doesnt make it, the drives inside LACIE are Seagates.
Your data isnt lost, NOR your drive corrupted,........if the below doesnt fix it, you CAN crack up the box, and remove the HD and stick it into the ONLY RELIABLE HD connection that exists, that being a HD dock , get a USPEED theyre the best.
3.5" drives have a power issue (sometimes) thru firewire, they use more power than do 2.5" laptop external HD.  3.5" is a bit of a hog (depending on mfg) on power demands for spinning up and use. .........Ive almost entire steered away from ANY 3.5" unless it has its own power cord.
Ive got nearly 100 Hard drives, Ive see this more than a few times. the only 100% reliable connector for external drives is (most often) a 2.5" drive thru USB , or MOST reliable, a HD docking station.  But a LOT of HD docks are junk get a good one, ...again, the best is USPEED

software program from the Seagate website that is designed to stop the auto-eject feature. Once that was installed the problem was gone. One drive is connected via Firewire 800, the other two are just plain vanilla USB connections.Go to this page and read about half way down. http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=207851&NewLan g=en

  • Firewire 800 keeps ejecting my disk

Thought it was a fluke, but it keeps happening. My LaCie drive keeps disconnecting and I get an error message that it was improperly disconnected. I've tried two different firewire cables. I'm not touching the cord. It just suddenly loses the connection. Is it possible that I have a bad firewire port? I just bought the MacBook today. Should I return it for a replacement?

    Hi,
I am encountering a similar eject disk problem. When attempting to clone (with CCC) iMac's internal HD to external firewire 800 connected HD, the cloning stops fairly quickly and Firewire HD is ejected with an error message stating disk has not been properly ejected. The result is that the cloning partition becomes corrupted and can't be repaired by disk utility.
Since I am using a quad interface HD NewerTech Voyager Q ''toaster'' for internal drives, I managed to make a functional clone the iMac HD with usb connection.
But if I attempt to boot with firewire connection the corruption problem is recreated > Backup screwed.
I was wondering if my firewire port could be dead ? I tried multiple times formatting the HD and start the process again but firewire connection and cloning leads to failure at each trial.
Any idea ? (Note: everything in my setup seems up to date)

  • Firewire HD LaCie Rugged 1Gb unmountable on Lion OSX

    Hello there,
I have a LaCie Rugged 1Gb firewire HD unmountable on my mac mini intel ( YM9032RA19Y ) with Lion OSX 10.7.5.
The same disk is ok with my last macbookpro retina with Mountain Lion and it works perfectly.
I tested mac mini firewire interface with another LaCie firewire and it works! and I plugged the rugged disk cascading to the bigger one.
I checked on /Volumes/ whether the rugged disk is visible or not: no way. I heard it's running but the OSX doesn't recognize it.
Are there others things I can do? I wanna keep my OSX Lion because I have a backup to restore from the rugged disk.
Thanks in advance for any help and suggestion

Hmmm, I have an iMac that won't boot from a couple of FW800 drives, but one does boot fusing USB2, the other boots using FW400!?
ok. I'll simply report what's happening here:
a- mac mini (YM9032RA19Y early 2009) OSX Lion doesn't mount directly my LaCie Rugged FW 800 directly but with USB 2 it does.
b- LaCie Rugged works fine with my mbp OSX Mountain Lion via FW800->thunderbolt adaptor
c- mac mini with another LaCie FW800 with Rugged cascading doesn't work - but it does with FW400 while the first normal LaCie HD is mounted FW800 by mac mini
It's another issue but mac mini Superdrive (PIONEER DVD-RW  DVRTS08) doesn't read any old cd/dvd burnt (>2002) by a pc, any original cd audio, any original dvd
I guess it's wise to buy an external cd/dvd drive for my mbp and mac mini.
I've read some forum around it seems OSX Lion is the cause of this cd/dvd drive problem.

  • Firewire 800 port on new MBP not mounting Lacie rugged 500GB drive

    Hi all
I've just purchased the new MBP 17" and my Lacie Rugged 500GB drive will not mount.
It will mount over USB though.
I've tried three different FW800 cables and no result.
There are some posts around 10.5.7 update issues, but I've tried everything listed and no dice.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I had a Western Digital My Passport Studio model like that. It has nothing to do with cables or your laptop. It has to do with manufacturers who fail to adhere to the proper power standards for the interface. Basically, if the drive demands more power then the port will give, it is never going to work.
I returned my WD to Apple for a refund, and instead tried a SeaGate FreeAgent Go firewire 800 drive. It has worked flawlessly over Firewire on my MacBook Pro, and it even came with both a Fire 800 cable, a firewire 800-to-400 cable, a USB cable, and a special USB power cable so you could draw additional power off the USB ports if a firewire 800 port wasn't putting out sufficient power. That's why I bought it - figured one way or another it had to be able to work on bus power (even if it had taken both the firewire and USB bus in combo to do it).
Another option I've had good luck with in the past is OWC Mercury on the Go drives (eshop.macsales.com). These have always worked fine on bus power for me, but they also have an optional external power supply too, just in case.

  • I Have A New Lacie Rugged 320 GB - Do I Partition The Drive?

I have a new Lacie Rugged 320GB (along with my other two Lacie external hard drives), and have
a few questions about setting this one up for what I want to do.
    1. I want make a partition to save a complete eMac Hard Drive on the new
Lacie Rugged 320 for a master back-up (Tiger 10.4.11 Back-Up) This will be Mac OS Extended
    2. I want to make a second partition for a future Macbook Pro Hard Drive
on the new LaCie rugged 320GB Drive (OS10.6 or later Back-Up) This will be Mac OS Extended
    3. I want to make a "free space" partition for a master iTune Folder Back-Up
on the Lacie Rugged 320 GB Drive .... and to provide additional "free space"
for future important file back-ups. This will be Mac OS Extended
    4. I want to add a fourth partition for a possible windows back-up. Not sure what this should be
    formatted in.
Is it reasonable to section this drive off into four partitions? I would like to have a master back-up, that I could use to reboot an eMac in an emergency .... or to first use when loading my new Macbook Pro.
Secondly, I would like to back-up the Macbook Pro, so I will have a second start up drive
it it should ever be needed.
Then I would like to have an "open free space" partition where I could put immediate stuff
on and off the drive for back-up purposes (iTunes library folder, etc.).
Last, I THINK I should have a separate partition for a windows system back-up that will
be running on the Macbook Pro ... although I'm not sure which Windows/PC formatting would be
best for doing this. Or if this would even make good sense?
Any suggestions on partitoning the new Lacie Rugged 320GB will be appreciated.
    Thanks

Thanks for clarifying, although I find someone coming here for advice and posting Give it a break, a bit snarky.
That said, here's my standard advice WRT upgrading:
Get a bootable, external HD (preferably FireWire, since it's 40-50% faster than USB 2 and designed for data transfers), make a bootable backup/clone before updating/upgrading, and ensure that it's bootable and works like the original. That allows you to revert to the previous good state without having to reinstall or reset anything. See these for details:

  • Internal and External DVD players keep ejecting DVDs

i have a G4 500mhz AGP mac (upgraded to a 1.6ghz processor via a NewerTech card) with an internal CD/DVD player (not burner) and i have an external LaCie CD/DVD burner (the LaCie CD/DVD burner is only about 4 weeks old and i've burned maybe 8 to 10 DVDs on it)
i have had NO problem reading any DVD disks until just about a week ago.. i had bought a new Graphics DVD and it worked the first time i put it in the DVD player... the second time it would not work... (((this was the start of the problem of the purple-ish DVDs not mounting))) so, i thought i had just bought a faulty DVD, they replaced it and the new one still will not work at all.. the DVD will NOT work in my internal DVD player AND it will not work in my LaCie external DVD burner/player...
the internal drive just spins for a few minutes and the kicks the DVD out... the external LaCie drive spins for several minutes, then i finally get a message saying the disc is not readable.
what i have noticed is that any DVDs i put in will mount as long as they have a silver surface.... if the surface is purple-ish color, those are the DVDs that will not mount and keep ejecting
even DVDs that i have burned on the external LaCie DVD burner will not mount in the internal drive OR the external drive...
as i said, all of the DVDs that will NOT mount are the one's with a purple-ish surface... maybe that has something to do with the problem....
something must have happened somewhere because these purple-ish DVDs did used to work... i even did a brand new install of OS X.4 on a totally seperate hard drive and these purple-ish DVDs STILL would not work...
even booted into MacOS 9.2.2 and the STILL would NOT mount....
    ANY info would be helpful...

i now KNOW that there is NOT a defect with the LaCie DVD/CD burner and there is not a problem with the purple-ish DVDs, but it is HAS TO BE something with the Mac or MacOS X software because i took the LaCie drive and connected it to my WindowsXP machine and ALL the purple-ish DVDs that would not mount on my mac computer WILL WORK on with the LaCie drive connected to my XP machine...
    any suggestions are appreciated.....

  • Lacie Rugged Harddrive on OSX 10.4

Is it possible to mount a lacie rugged drive on a powerbook g4 running OSX 10.4? It's not showing up in disk utility, but everything mounts fine on my imac running 10.7

Are you sure the USB port has enough power?
As I said my old LaCie needs to use its own mains adapter on USB but will run without it on FireWire.

  • Will LaCie D2 QUADRA with firewire restore my apps back onto my MacBook Pro if I upgrade to Lion and then restore from the external drive?

I ordered the disk to update to Snow Leopard.  Did that so I could get the App Store.  Did that so I could download Lion.   After I installed Lion my MacBook is super sluggish.  Takes like 6 seconds just to open a drop-down menu in Finder.
I have been backing up. Will LaCie D2 QUADRA with firewire restore my apps back onto my MacBook Pro if wipe my drive using the USB Lion OS stick (which I think I'll have to buy even though I downloaded the new OS online)?  I have been plugging my laptop into the Lacie drive set on "auto" and it's been working great.
One Genius said yes "you will get everything back" but my Mac buddy says "say goodbye to most of your apps".  Then a guy at the university I asked "do you have a disk image". And I said "what the **** is a disk image?".
Is the problem that I installed an OS on top of new OS without wiping the drive?  Or, is my MacBook Pro too old? Do I need to buy a new one?

    Any help?

SA will indeed transfer accounts, files and apps at first start. Can do so even faster if you clone the internal HDD onto the external (just split into a partition large enough to contain it) and then use it as the source. Probably faster than Time Machine too. The safest and quickest way to do a disk image or clone is using CarbonCopyCloner (free), and it will preserve the Lion Recovery Partition too.
Since you'll have to re--download the Lion installer again, note that you can concoct your very own Lion Installer USB Stick with it prior to reinstalling and not have to pay for the Apple-branded version. See Kappy's tutorial: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3786371?tstart=0
As for the sluggishness, I believe that a great part of the cause is that you only have 2GB RAM. Don't know if your Mac can take more but try at least to get to 4GB, if not 8GB. Should attempt this before  messing with the reinstall, as this may get you what you want.

  • Hello, I have two questions on time capsule  I can only have it on my external hd files and free up my internal memory to my mac  I can use an external hard drive, in my case a lacie rugged as shared memory for my two computers

Hello, I have two questions on time capsule  I can only have it on my external hd files and free up my internal memory to my mac  I can use an external hard drive, in my case a lacie rugged as shared memory for my two computers

I have a mackbook pro and an iMac if I buy a time capsule 2tb airport, I can use it with time machine and what would be the best way to use it.
There is no particular setup required for TM.. both computers will create their own backup sparsebundle which is like a virtual disk.. Pondini explains the whole thing if you read the reference I gave you.
and how to use time capsule airport whit other external hd to use my old lacie airport with the new time capsule
Up to you.. you can plug the external drive into the TC and enjoy really slow file transfers or you can plug it into your computer and use it as external drive.. which is faster than the TC.. and TM can include it in the backup.
Again everything is explained in the reference.. you are not reading it.

  • IMac keep ejecting my 2TB external HDD but in safe boot mode it is totally fine. How to resolve the problem?

    Hi,
I have WD 2 TB external HDD. It has two partitions, one I use for my time machiine backup and one for my personal files and documents. Recently the iMac keeps ejecting the external HDD as soon as it gets connected to the iMac. I tried to reboot the computer in safe boot mode (by holding down the shift key at startup) and found out that problem is not there anymore. I can access my external HDD there and it never ejects the HDD.
It seems like the HDD is fine, the problem is with the iMac. Can anybody please give any solution to this problem?
    Thanks!

    Thanks Allan for your reply!
It makes sence that there must be some log in /start up item which is causing this problem. I went System Preference>Users & Groups> Login items> disabled all the items there to make sure, and restarted the computer but the problem is still there
Is there any other way to stop/configure the log in items?
    Thanks again!

  • Using osx snow leopard with boot camp, optical drive keeps ejecting windows 7 disc

Upgraded my late 2008 macbook pro from leopard to snow leopard.  Added the max 4GB of RAM and replaced the working 250GB hard drive with a new 1TB hard drive.  Rebooted with time machine from external hard drive.  Now tried setting up Bootcamp to add a Windows 7 partition, but the optical drive keeps ejecting the Windows 7 disc after it spins for a few moments.  The optical drive will read other discs, just not the Windows 7 disc.  How do I fix this problem?

you need to install the new bootcamp drivers from windows. boot into windows, insert the snow leopard DVD, open it and follow the instructions.

  • Mac Book / 10.5.2 ~ Keeps ejecting CD-R but DVD's seem okay.

    Hello there,
My apologizes, I know that there are different threads throughout several discussions on this or something that may seem very similar but regrettable I have not been able to find a solution.
I have a first generation Black MacBook running 10.5.2, I had a problem with my drive and in November Apple replaced it under apple care. Currently I have a :
    MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857:
    Firmware Revision: HBEA
    Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
    Cache: 2048 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, DVD-DAO
    Media:
    Type: CD-R
    Blank: Yes
    Erasable: No
    Overwritable: Yes
    Appendable: Yes
    Write Speeds: 8x, 24x
The problem has a few different elements:
    1. When I insert a CD-R disc that I know works (tried on a windows box), I get the standard Finder Message saying "You Inserted a blank CD. Choose an action from the pop-up menu or click Ignore." I click Eject and try again with the same result each time.
    2. When i try to record my own CD-r from a new spool it looks like it will burn but I get an error saying "... calibration problem . . ." and the disk fails.
I have tried to reset my PRAM no luck
I have tried to hold my MacBook upside down no Luck
i have re-installed 10.5.2 combined update. no luck
Checked the disk and permission . no luck.
If you are able to offer any advice it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for you help and any reply you may offer.
    In Peace,
    -h

Did this happen right after you got it back from Apple?
No it did not had burned over 50 disks before it began.. Started within the last 2 weeks. Cannot recall any particular change I made to the machine to prompt or trigger this.
If so, you should of sent it back then.
How long did you hold it upside down? The entire sequence.. Stated upside down. Put the disk in.. waited till i saw the Dialogue Box then turned it over in total about 10-15 Seconds.
When you say tried to reset pram, did you successfully do this? I believe so. .The machine restarted and beeped then went over the inital start up chime again. So i bleive it was successful
Did this start after you installed Leopard? I have only been using Leopard since I got the replacement drive. I thought 10.5.2 could have triggered it but no confirmation.
What brand of disk are you using?
Several including (imation, datawrite, princo) I know you will likely comment on the names of the disks. but i do not believe it to be the disks as even with the quality ones it is the same problem and when i place a burned disk in the drive it still thinks it is blank.
    Thanks again for the help.

  • My 2012 iMac 27" keeps ejecting my click free external hard drive after a few hours whether I'm using it or not

I've had my iMac since October 2012, and in November I got myself a clickfree 1tb external hard drive that uses Usb3...
My friend has the same hard drive and an iMac that's about a year older than mine, but has no problems with it.
However my iMac keeps ejecting the hard drive at random moments whether I'm using it or not, and it keep's prompting me
about the correct way to eject a hard drive... But I didn't tell it to eject the hard drive or want it to in the first place!?
It also doesn't always like to acknowledge that there is even a hard drive connected upto it...
My iMac also struggles to run any other programme if I have Final Cut 7 open either, it tends to just give up and freeze.
I have very little stored on the Mac itself as I store all my files on hard drives to keep the Mac clear and not clog it up, so
considering its running with a 3.1 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and 4GB memory, I'm struggling to see what's wrong with it...
    Somebody help me please!?

Read the user manual and/or contact the vendor/manufacturer.  You need to determine first if the problem is the external drive or not since it's 3rd party.

  • I'm trying to upgrade from 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard but my macbook keeps ejecting the disc.  It started to install the first time and said it needed to restart to finish, restarted but ejected the disc.  It ejects every time now.

I'm trying to upgrade from 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard but my macbook keeps ejecting the disc.  It started to install the first time and said it needed to restart to finish, restarted but ejected the disc.  It ejects every time now.  I've also installed the 10.5.8 combo update but that didn't help it.  I've tried restarting the macbook with the disc in, holding c, all that.  Why won't this work?!

Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try again.

  • Mac Keep Ejects Installation Media, Hard disk is empty, How to install OSX

I installed Ubuntu in my Mac Mini, Later my apple wireless keyboards pairing is not working and to pair i need to have OS X installed, since no osx installed, to boot i used to press the option key. So now I formated linux, now my hard disk is empty no partition or nothing. But the problem is my mac mini keeps ejecting OS X installation media (original dvd set came with mac mini) but I can boot from ubuntu live cd. How can I solve this problem. Some one told me to reset my pram, but I was unable to do it. Pressing Command Option P R does nothing. Please help me out. without my machine working I'm like a dead man.

Yeah I managed to get one, and tried c key to boot from the disk. It doesn't work. The current status of my machine is. My hard drive is clean (unpartitioned space, I formated it). Still Mac Ejects OS X installation media which came with the mac mini, But I can boot using Ubuntu,Solaris, etc disks and I can install them. How can I install OS X in this situation. Since I'm doing my PG course in Computer Science, the system is an urgent stuff for me.. Please help me out.
And why mac is ejecting the actual original installation media even when it's taking all other disks ?? I tried two different disks to make sure if it's the trouble of the disk, but that's not the case. I only ejects OS X disks and ejects all OSX Disks (i tried tiger disk, and leopard disk)
