Do you have current backups?
Those symptoms could indicate a failing Hard drive. If it dies, all your documents go with it unless you have Backups.
I have had very good luck with physical and battery problem diagnosis at the Genius Bar. Those guys put their hands (and their ears) to these machines, all day every day, and they know immediately what all those sounds mean.

Every time I open Firefox it tries to install the same updates (that I don't want) and the Firefox 3.6 "Choose Your Persona" etc. tab opens along with my home page tab. It takes a really long time to get onto Firefox because of these problems.

Well, this worked on my desktop! But my problem is on my laptop. :-) I'm running XP, but there was no "Username" under Documents and Settings under the C drive. I did a search for those file names and it wasn't there. I found Mozilla Firefox folder under: C\Documents and Settings\ All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Mozilla Firefox. There are 2 - 1 is Mozilla Firefox (shortcut) and the other is Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode). I did a Mozilla Firefox search and this is all that showed up.
When I click on the shortcut link (the 1st one), it opens up 2 screens of Firefox. One is the "this is embarrassing" screen. The other is "Choose your Persona" screen. I closed it and reopened and it took me to my home page.

Takes long time for songs to start playing

I have window 7. I have problems when i try to play a song it takes a long time and it displays on the screen " loading URL". Why does it take so long. I have trie itunes versions 8-10.5. The only itunes that it doesn't happen in is itunes 7. Itunes also freezes up sometimes. Thanks in advance.

HT4972 i was updating my iphone 4 to ios 5. When it starts updating it automatically backs up. It takes a really long time and whenever it is up to 1.4 of the bar, it automatically quits! i don't know what to do, is there some way to fix this?

XFCE takes a really long time to start

I've had it start on this laptop way faster before, but somehow I did something to it to really slow down its boot. You know the default startup splash, how it has a pulsing mouse? It used to start in 1 or 2 pulses, now it takes like 7 or 8. Is it trying to connect to samba shares or something?

Was prompted to update firefox. Did so, appeared to install correctly.
Now when I open firefox it takes over a minute to open a new window.

Common problem with other complaints under "stall", "freeze", and "hang". Try clicking the refresh button every 5 seconds until the page loads (usually second, third, or fourth try) instead of waiting.
Maybe it will be fixed in FF7. Mozilla is simply not addressing the problem.

BTW, you did the same thing with "value2.addFocusListener(this)" and "sum.setEditable(true)" on the next two lines. You're attempting to call a method on an object that doesn't exist yet (i.e., you haven't called new yet).

I'd try starting Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If you don't have the issue while all of your add-ons, extensions, and themes are disabled, you can try adding them back in one by one until you find the culprit. You should look at the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting-extensions-themes Extensions and Themes troubleshooting guide ] and the [[Troubleshooting plugins]] article as well.
From the looks of it though, your issue may be because you've been hit with some [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Is%20my%20Firefox%20problem%20a%20result%20of%20malware?s=malware&r=0&e=sph&as=s#w_how-do-i-get-rid-of-malware Malware].
If isn't malware or a plugin issue, you should take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[Search bar]]. Your default search might have been changed by a particular site. Sites like MSN, Yahoo, etc have been know to ask to become your homepage and change your search engine.
If the address bar search has been changed as well, you might want to take a look at [[Location bar search]].
If that doesn't work you should look at the article [[Preferences are not saved]].

Same thing here. Must be update related. Who knows. Tried to go into ventrilo today and nada. Can hear people fine, microphone not picking. In my devices it says my Anvex Virtual Audio is "not available", same with the "IDT High Definition Audio Codec. Now I'm starting to get a little agitated. No diagnostics have come back with a ping on the issue. All settings seem fine. I HAVE AUDIO, as in my speakers are working so **bleep**.
I'm lost. No clue how to fix it. Guess I'm no longer raiding and that if this isn't working I'm going to go buy a Dell and rage beat this piece of **bleep** in the yard. That's right. I am taking 3 years of continual frustration out with HP errors, Vista complications and overall disatisfaction.
