My lap top keeps crashing at odd intervals.have to shut down completely to restart=any suggestions?

Windows 7 32 bit
HP Deskjet 6940
Would not print with ready light working properly- message to print qued up properly=when print command was fiven
message said an error prevented printing-did not specify kind or type error  
I then followed HP on lineinstructions to reinstall drivrer  ie delete your product shown on Device & printers
unconnect UBS line- turn printer off & On, reconnect line
After having done this my printer does not reshow in Device & printer window so a proper printer command cannot be given
Any suggestion would be really welcom

This a is tricky one, but you can still do it. Instead of pressing the power button, hold it down for a few seconds and then you'll see the shut down options dialog pop up.
I guess they were trying to prevent accidental touching of that button. They did something similar with the Eject button a few versions ago, where you have to hold down Eject instead of just tapping it so that you don't pop out a CD by mistake.
