The RIGHT answer is to restore the backup that you must have kept of your laptop. But I've noticed that Windows users rarely keep backups (Macs do it automatically, hourly). This rather complicated procedure will do what you need, however: Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive
If all of your music was purchased from iTunes it is easier; just connect the phone to iTunes, then right click on its name in iTunes and choose "transfer purchases".

Yes, but before you do that..... follow through this: iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
Then sync your iphone to transfer others songs that you missed. After all that is done, plug your nano in (make sure your nano and iphone is authorized on that computer). Once you plug your nano, you should be able to sync your songs from your iTunes to your nano.
If you are attempting to sync iPhone to Nano, you CANNOT do that.

My computer crashed, can i put music from my ipod to my new computer?

My laptop recently crashed... i cannot access it at all. I have approx 1600 songs on my ipod right now, from my cd's. I need to know if i can put all these songs on my computer without copying all the cd's again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.

Or download all of the purchased music on the new iPad. You can download the songs again for free in the Purchased Tab of the iTunes App as long as you use the same Apple ID that you used to buy the songs with originally.

The answer was click View > Show sidebar. Devices and playlists will display in the left sidebar once again. Copy playlists into iPod as usual.

Yeah! Click on your iPod when it shows up under "Devices" on the left side of iTunes while plugged in. Click on the music tab at the top and select "Manually Manage songs and playlists". Then click the arrow next to you iPod on under "Devices" and it will drop down "Music" "Videos" etc under it. Go to "Music" and select all your songs and drag them to the iTunes "Music" tab. If you do not have a back up of the crashed hard drive you can download an app to copy from the iPhone to iTunes on the new hard drive.
I have used Pod2Mac. There is also Pod2PC.
