My laptop goes haywire when the sound is unmuted

My laptop is going berzerk anytime I unmute the sound on it. When the sound is muted everything works fine, however when I unmute it the laptop will paste zxc\ty,.\ in the nearest free space, the caps lock will turn on, touchpad locks up, the scroll bar on the left will be stuck scrolling down and will nothing will work/stop until I hit the spacebar three times. Then I can once again use the keyboard but the zxc\ty,. keys will not work as well as the enter key on the main keyboard and the num lock on the keypad. When I try to mute it again, the mute button will not work and I will have to mute it using the touch pad by clicking on the speaker icon and selecting mute. Once it is muted again, everything will go back to functioning normally but without sound of course. Any ideas what could be causing this or how to fix it?

  • Video Display on Laptop goes haywire when you go to print a document

    Hello and Help..
I have a brand new HP 14-r001TU Laptop
It is running win 8.1 with all the updates it appears to work fine when browsing the web.
My printer is a HP 2540 with the latest driver installed, test pages print perfectly.
If I browse to a web page then want to print that web page then the issues start. The image on the page is partly displayed in a foreign language or script language, part of the page is usually ok. Graphics appear to largely be displayed ok, mainly the text component is affected.
i dont believe it's a printer issue but i may be wrong? The printer prints the corrupted page that is displayed.
Google Chrome was the browser, removing this program and defaulting to Inet Explorer has not fixed the issue..
Flash player, adobe, microsoft viewers are all installed and updated but still the problem exists.
I have checked to see if the intel graphics driver is up to date and it is..
    HELP!!!!
    Thanks
Problem now sorted. Google Chrome was the issue..

You '''don't''' want Print to File selected.
Is your hardware (physical) printer selected, or a virtual printer like XPS or the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer selected?
If you want it printed to paper you need to have a "real" printer selected.

  • When watching netflix on appletv is goes black but the sound is still there

When watching netflix on appletv  after 5 mins it goes black but the sound is still there and only resumes if I rewind or fast forward and then sometimes just goes back to the home menu

Yes, I understand that. But The screen issue is not a result of user damage. The phone was not dropped when the screen got cracked. My daughter was standing in a chair at the table and dropped one of her toys onto the bottom of the phone and cracked it right by the home button. (Nowhere near the LCD/digitizer flex cables, connections, or logic board components) then a few months later my phone had died, I plugged it in, it showed it was charging, then Apple logo disappeared and screen didn't work. AFTER contacting Apple about the issue and them telling me that it "is a result of the very minimal crack to the sheet of glass that has no relation to the LCD or Digitizer and that the warranty does not cover it I had taken it upon myself to change the LCD/digitizer to no avail, as well as backlight ic and backlight coil to no avail. But how do I go about letting Apple know that it is in fact NOT due to the cracked screen nor is it due to the flex cable connections? I can't. So the lady that works the call center phones  trying to "convince" me that she knows what she is talking about and "convince" me that it is from the cracked screen I have to take her word because I can't show Apple that its not because of that without paying them $199 to fix the screen in which case they will just send me a new phone rather than fix the faulty hardware under warranty.

  • When the sound turns off on my macbook, the miniplug stereo port emits a wildly uncontroled load leading to noise.

When the sound turns off on my macbook and my macbook pro, the miniplug stereo port emits a an enormous 'pop', i.e. wildly uncontroled load leading to noise. Goundline hum follows. I am running OS 10.6.6. I have noted previous threads noting the same problem on OS 10.4.x and 10.5.
How do I stop my mac from trying to ruin my stereo and speakers every time I connect them?

You don't say which year you have, however...
...there are known problems with the mid-2010 models (see http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US) as well as early and late 15" 2011 models (see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4766577?tstart=0).
Apple has taken ownership of the problems with the 2010 model but, unfortunately, the free logic board replacement for that model has probably long expired for you - three years after date of purchase.
One the 2011 models Apple has admitted no defect. You'll just have to skim the articles to get an overview of the problems that people are having (usually showing up as screen glitches at first and then going downhill from there).
    Good luck,

You can leave the charger plugged in, as you cannot overcharge...charging automatically stops when your battery is full. Once every 2 ~ 3 months, its a good idea to drain the battery to about ~ 40%, then recharge to full. Otherwise, you can charge whenever you like & leave connected whenever you like.
Try to avoid full battery discharges, Lithium batteries don't like that & frequent full discharge/recharge cycles will eventually kill your battery.

  • My Imac 's fan goes haywire when screensaver and/ or shutdown  takes place

My 14 month old apple Imac's fan goes crazy when the screensaver and /or shutdown takes place.. otherwise it works beautifully and does not normaly make any noise at all.
    Thank you..

    Hi Gillal,
If your the fans in your iMac fans are running frequently it may be that your computer is overheating for any number of reasons. This article should help you understand how they work -
Learn about the fans in your Mac
If the iMac seems to be using the fans when it should not be, you may want to reset your iMac's System Management Controller. See this article for the steps to do so -

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • I've imported from a video camera and the files on the laptop are not playing the sound, is there any way to retrieve it?

I have just uploaded a large number of files from a panasonic video camera on to imovie. I have never had this problem in the past, but when I try to play back the files on my laptop there is no sound. I have tried increasing the sound and normalising via the audio settings, and the sound is playing fine on the video camera. Is there anything I can do?

I have also checked that the files are MOV not MPEG etc

  • Im having trouble with my Messages. The keypad sensors are going haywire. The other apps like FbMessenger are ok. What should i do?

The keypad sensors are going haywire. Only Messages has this problem. The other apps with messaging like FB messenger are functioning well.
And its not just with typing; even with scrolling up or down, the sensors wont cooperate. Pfft.

    venicespent,
Boot into your Mavericks Recovery partition by hold down the command and R keys whilst booting. You'll see a screen that looks like this:
Click on the Disk Utility item to open Disk Utility. You should see your boot drive (usually named "Macintosh HD" unless you've changed it) in the column on the left of the screen. Select your boot partition and click on the "Verify" button. Let your Mac do it's thing - if you get green text telling you that everything seems to be OK, then your disk should not be damaged. If, however, you get red text telling you that the disk needs to be repaired, click on the "Repair" button. If the disk can be repaired, you should be good to go. If the disk cannot be repaired then the drive is damaged.
But before you do anything, make certain that you have backups!!!

  • Launching an mp3 from a PDF when the sound file is not embedded in the PDF

I'm using InDesign CS5 to create an interactive PDF that will run from a website. I want to be able to launch a sound file from the PDF but I don't want to sound file to be embedded in the PDF. I thought I could create a hyperlink to the file, but when I click on the link in the PDF, the sound file does not run. Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Mark

I'm pretty sure that sound files must be embedded.

Does anyone know why its doing this? Or a way i can fix it? I've cheaked for updates and there is none!
    Thankyouuu
it looks like that when it is locked and when its unlocked it looks like this

Have you checked the volume button? It might be physically stuck. To determine whether a hardware repair is needed, you need to follow these steps:
    1. Try doing a hard reset:
Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/wake button simultaneously for about 15 seconds and release when the Apple logo appears.
After that: test the device to see whether the issue is solved.
    2. If the issue is not solved, you should backup the device and restore it as new.
    In that case, use: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
NB: set up as a NEW device because a software issue will be in the backup.
If the issue persists after restoring as new, you should offer the device for service.
If you get specific error messages/codes in iTunes when updating/restoring, check this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694 for causes and solutions
    Good luck

  • IPhone will not ring if locked even when Do Not Disturb is not on. Even when the sound toggle on the side is not red.  This problem occurs regardless of whether it I have Do not Disturb on (manually, or scheduled) or COMPLETELY OFF.

iPhone will not ring if locked when when Do Not Disturb is not on and the phone is not on silent (button on side is not red).  This problem occurs regardless of whether it I have Do not Disturb on (manually, or scheduled) or COMPLETELY OFF.   I've tried wiping the phone and reinstalling from a saved copy but of course the problem comes back because the problem is inherent in the save.   There are two options under "Silence" at the bottom of the Do Not Disturb preferences.  "Always" or "Only when iPhone is locked".   Those are the only two options and I want neither.  No amount of deselecting will work.  It forces you to pick one.
Does anyone have a solution given that I've better explained the problem?

The settings at the bottom of the Do Not Disturb page do not matter if you have the switch for Manual turned to off, or the Scheduled turned to off.
When the phone is unlocked, if you try to raise the volume of the ringer, what do you see on the screen? Does it say ringer, do you see the word headphones anywhere?

  • The voice over thingy goes crazy when switching sound system.

When itunes asked me if I wanted the feature where an artifical voice says to me what's currently playing on the ipod when pressing the middle button, I answered yes. Because I wanted it.
The feature works as expected, when I listen away on the pod and press the button the voice says what I'm currently listening to.
    But.
When I leave home to go to work I plug in my headphones and listen away all the way to work. When I arrive at work I simply disconnect the headphones (ipod automatically pauses) and I plug it in to the speakers I use there. When I've done this and press play the artifical voice starts saying EVERYTHING I have on the ipod in one long sequence. Turning the ipod off and on at this point does not help. Turning on the radio and then turning it off kills the voice though.
This happens every time, at lesat five days a week.
    Bug? Broken?
    Best Regards

I tried the Reset & Restore guide you linked to for me. And since I performed the steps in that guide I haven't been able to get VoiceOver to work at all! I checked the VoiceOver option on the iPod menu in iTunes but I get no voice when pushing the center button on the iPod.
I tracked this down and it seems the work around for this is to set the option VoiceOver Language for every track to something else than the default value which is 'Automatic'. i tried this for a couple of tracks and it worked - but come on, this is Apple late 2009 - make it work!
Yesterday i updated to the new iPod firmware but still no dice, I still have to change the language option for tracks to enable them for VoiceOver. Oh and by the way I upgraded first and then performed the Reset & Restore guide once more, just to make sure.
Hence I have not checked if the original problem of this thread remains because I'm not going to set all my track languages, it's ridiculous. So in a way the tip fixed my problem I guess... But not really...

  • HT204384 The Sd chip is downloaded onto a desk computer. Then forwarded to my laptop. Why is the sound so much quieter when I play it.

We direct down load our Messages to SD chip in church, it is then downloaded onto a deskcomputer. From there it is sent to my laptop computer. Why is the volume so low? Seemed to be no problem when we used the USB.

    Three things you can try:
    1. Clean the superdrive with a proprietory CD/DVD lens cleaner that uses tiny brushes.
    2. Perform an SMC reset:
Resetting the SMC (System Management Controller) on Intel-based Macs:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964  and
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237?viewlocale=en_US
Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
If you are using a Wireless Keyboard:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3273
    3. Try the free DVD player VLC:

which performs better than the built-in DVD Player.
