My laptop is not running well since installing Firefox 4. How can I go back to using Firefox 3, which I find better in so many ways?

My laptop is quite old; that is a given fact. None of my programs are running well since I installed Firefox 4. It seems to have particularly compromised my Outlook and email downloads, also opening PDF files. Neither do I like the 'build' of Firefox 4. I had Firefox 3 set to the way I like to work as my personal tool or implement. This is the way things should be, not the other way around. Please let me know of I can re-install an earlier version?
I will not be changing my laptop or operating system any time soon.

To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.

  • HT203176 My start up disk (10.6.8 ver) has errors and I do not have the OSX install disk. How can I fix this and repair the disk?

Start up disk needs repaired. Repair Disk button is not available in disk utility and I do not have the OS install disk as recommended to fix. Any suggestions?

You have two choices, either get a replacement install DVD for your Mac ( best choice) or make another disk a system disk.
Option 1 call Apple and request a replacement install DVD for you Mac. They will charge you a nominal fee for shipping and handling. You really should have that because it is considered part of your Mac.
Option 2 This one depends on exactly what kind of errors you have on the disk.
If the data is recoverable, you can clone to the other drive.
If not, then you are in trouble and need the install DVD to install an operating system.

  • My computer freezes when I try to log in to You Tube and is still "running" after I close it. How can I go back to my the previous version of Firefox?

After downloading Firefox 4 Beta, my personal website does not display as it used to. The text is now aligned left when it was centered. Also, when I try to log in to You Tube, everything freezes. I have to use the computer task manager to close the browser. When I try to open Firefox again, I get a message stating it is still running and I must close it or re-start my computer to open Firefox again.
I would like to return to the previous version of Firefox.

You can get duplicate installation disks from Apple Customer Service.  You will have to provide them with the MBP serial number and there is a charge,
Another option is to purchase the Snow Leopard retail disk from the Apple online store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Either option should allow you to install an OSX.
    Ciao.

  • I downloaded Firefox 4.0 and now it takes forever to load most websites. I have a old computer and I probably should not have upgraded Firefox. How can I go back to the older version?

I downloaded Firefox 4.0 and now I am having problems. Everything is running very, very slow. My computer is old and probably does not have the capacity to fun 4.0 effectively. I would like to return to older Firefox 3.
    How can I do this.

You're trying to go through a proxy which isn't working. Assuming you don't normally use a proxy to connect to the internet, do this:
Tools, options, advanced, connection settings, set no proxy.
Causes for this may include anything which monitors or forwards newtork traffic on your computer (tools like fiddler2 or tor). It may also be that you are on a network which requires a proxy to access the intenet (some corporate and university networks do this).

  • Aperture 3 does not work well since installing Mavericks. Constantly have to repair the library database. Any suggestions?

Aperture 3.5.1 was working well enough for me in Mountain Lion, but it seems that switching to Mavericks has made it slower, made it crash frequently and also given me frequent messages that the database is corrupt and I need to rebuild the database library, which I have done multiple times. I also use Aperture for Photo Stream, and it is especially slow and problematic there. Any ideas? Should I just use iPhoto instead? I'm more familiar with the flow in Aperture and would need to learn how better to use iPhoto, so that would be a last resort for me.

Aperture 3.5.1 was working well enough for me in Mountain Lion
Aperture 3.5.1 is incompatible with Mt. Lion - you  must have had an earlier Aperture version running with Mt. Lion.
also given me frequent messages that the database is corrupt and I need to rebuild the database library
That message is prompted by the crashes. After a crash your library may need repairing.

Is all your software compatible with Mavericks? Plug-ins, external editors, preference panes, device drivers, video codecs? Did you install any other software, when you upgraded to Mavericks?
Where is your Aperture library? On your system drive or external drive?
Does Aperture also crash, if you launch it while holding down the Shift key?

i tried an archive install and that did not work, i also tried creating a user acount and i know the problem lies within my primary user account, not other newly created accounts, i also tried removing cache and some plists so it would rebuild but still same problem.

  • Google toolbar is not compatible with FF 5.0. How can I go back to a previous version of FF? Thanks. bobwill not allow me

Not much for details. I like the 'spell check' option on the Google toolbar - it's always there no matter where I'm typing. But, since I installed FF 5/0, GTB is not compatible. I would like to go back to a prior version of FF. But, I don't know how to do that.
Don't get me wrong - I've used FF for many years and like it very much. I just ant GTB on my screen. thanks. bob

Google needs to update the Google Toolbar program for Firefox 5.0.
The Google Toolbar 7.1.20110512W version does work pretty good in Firefox 5.0 by using the Compatibility Reporter extension. But not every feature works 100%.

  • I tried to install 8.0.1 but when I tried to open the application it refused because I am non intel so how can I get back to the previous application which I lost?

to install I had to replace an older version which ran on non intel hardware. I cannot find the older version on my pc. Can I download a previous version?

Beginning with Firefox 4, Macs must have an Intel x86 processor (which you do NOT have; yours is a PPC Mac) '''''<u>and</u>''''' OSX 10.5 or higher.

'''''The good news''''' is that Firefox 3.6.24 still supports OSX 10.4 and Macs with the PPC Mac architecture. '''''The bad news''''' is that support for the Firefox 3.6.x series is likely to end in the first quarter of 2012.

  • I need to go back to the previous version of foxfire, as this new one is not compatible with my school e-mail, how can I go back to previous version of foxfire?

Our school is online Grand Canyon University, the new foxfire is not compatible, the instructor said if we go back to the previous version of foxfire which is what we use, then we can continue to send e-mail, please respond ASAP, as time is important.

The last Firefox version that runs on Mac OS X 10.4 is Firefox 3.6.28.
Current Firefox versions require a Mac with an Intel processor and OS X 10.6 (Firefox 16 runs on Intel Mac OS X 10.5).
    Firefox 3.6.28:

  • Adobe plugin removed. Defaults set to Adobe Standard. I get Firefox demand to install plugin. How can I force Adobe to use Standard?

Adobe Reader won't open certain (large) Adobe files.
    > I set all Firefox defaults to Adobe Standard. Firefox still uses Adobe Reader.
    > Uninstalled Adobe Reader. Uninstalled Firefox Adobe plugin.
    > When I try to open an Adobe File, Firefox now says to install Adobe Plugin.
    ... catch - 22.
What can I do to force Firefox to use Adobe Standard? (none of the moderator solutions appear to work)

RESOLUTION (seems not logical, but this worked):
Firefox would do nothing other than ask me to install the Firefox plugin for Adobe, which I accepted. This process leads to re-installing Adobe Reader. After installing Adobe Reader, all of the defaults that I previously had set to use Adobe Standard were re-set during the Adobe Reader installation to use Adobe Reader interally in Firefox.
After re-installing, I was able to load the document that previously I was unable to load (using Adobe Reader inside Firefox). I changed all of the Adobe defaults (under TOOLS/OPTIONS) to "always use Adobe Standard" instead of "Use Adobe Reader (default)". I was then able to open the document using Adobe Standard.
It appears that the following process solved the problem:
    > uninstall Adobe Reader
    > reinstall Adobe Reader (and the Firefox Adobe plugin)
    > change the defaults from "Use Adobe Reader (default)" to "Adobe Standard [release number]"
Note: I have Firefox 21.0 installed, and Adobe Reader XI 11.0.3 installed prior to, and after, this issue.

  • I VERY MUCH DISLIKE the new Foxfire 4.0 It does not support Norton Safe Web Lite. How can I go back to the old Foxfire?

The old Foxfire supported Norton Safe Web lite and this one does not. I want to be able to use Norton Safe Web and can not unless I start using Internet Explorer.
