My laptop just shuts down completely immediately on startup.

That about covers it.  Within just a few seconds it shuts down and I have to restart, but it repeatedly shuts off.

When you say Startup..up to what point? Do you still see the Toshiba logo? If so, you can boot to BIOS by pressing F2 on the TOshiba screen. Then on the BIOS screen, press F9 to load the setup defaults, select yes then press F10, save the changes and exit. If same thing happens, you might consider doing recovery. Thats if you're still seeing something on the screen. But if your screen is completely black and you are still under warranty it would be much better to send your system to depot for diagnosis and repair.

  • Macpro 17inch just shut down while using.  Tried removing battery and SMC to no avail.  Have had this problem before over the last six months but would always restore.  Now you just click on the power button front light stays on for 2 sec

Hi, My 17 inch Mac pro laptop just shut down and I can't get it to turn on again.  This has happen multiple times over the last six months.  Looked through the forum and tried removing the battery and resetting the SMC control to no avail. I was having issues also with the screen a month ago but that resolved by itself.  When I took it into the genius bar for screen problems I was told I'd probably need a new CPU board because the vram may be going bad and they just don't fix that
problem.  Have held off because of a potential $500 repair and awaiting ivy bridge technology.  Does anyone in the community know how I can restart my portable.  Right now you turn on the machine and the front light stays on for 2 sec and you hear the machine click off?

I think you may have already been told what the problem is.  However look at this and maybe it will help:

  • My calendar just shuts down immediately after opening.

Hello,  My calendar just shuts down immediately after opening.  I reset the ipad and it still isn't working  Any ideas? iPad 2

I only kow how to disengae yahoo but maybe the process will help for other email accounts linked to ipad calendar.  Just remeber to go to email accounts and shut down any associations with other programs.
Here is what I did in yahoo.mail
    Went to My Yahoo
selected quicklinks (on top left of page)
Calendar was not shown , so I selected more yahoo services at bottom of list.
Candar was among many and I selected it.
You then see your calendar with a margin on left that probably shows a checked box of te name of you calendar.  Uncheck it.
Also check the subscriptions.  You must decide what makes sense for you there.
To be more sure,  delete any recent calendar entries in your yahoo calendar or ipad calendar that might have cuased the problem.  that's what happened to me.  I noticed the problem right after I accepted a ics invitation from some else.  I think the ics invitation that I accepteed from my email was the real culprit but who knows.  All I know is that all these things combined solved my problem.
    Close the My Yahoo
Remeber to check your ipad for any associations and eliminate them and point the ipad calendar to icloud.
    Reboot you ipad
    Check for results
    I hope this helps

  • Laptop does not shut down completely after upgrading to Windows 10!!

Ever since I installed Windows 10 64-bit, the PC does not shut down completely. The screen gets blank but the power button is still lit up...Have to manually shut down by holding the power button... Same issue anyone? Any solution or workaround? @HP??

I also have this problem, and have resorted to leaving the computer in Sleep mode when not in use. This is OK as a temporary fix, but is not a permanent solution. This is clearly a problem with HP computers and I would hope HP are aware of the need for urgent action to resolve the problem. I also hope that Microsoft gives them full cooperation. HP and Microsoft, are you listening?

I connected my iphone 4s that I unlocked for t-mobile. I plugged it into itunes, and it asked me to update to ios6. I accepted the download and update button. It told me it needed 8 hours. I closed my laptop, not shut down. I re-opened the laptop a few hours later, and it wants restoring?? Whats going on?! i want my iphone back! PLEASE HELP. I'M LOST!!! (I synced my iphone to my computer if that helps at all).

Yes, and, I try to restore. I have the T-Mobile sim card in it just to clarify. It will not let me get passed that, it does not accept the t-mobile sim card. i tried restoring it using wifi, cellular, and i cant get i tunes. I am scared that if i take the tmobile sim card out and put the at&t one in just to complete the restoration process that the iphone will lock again and not read the tmobile sim card, then all my hard work has gone for nothing. ( this whole process was caused by me trying wanting to empty my pictures onto my computer because i did not have any storage space left). <--- that may not be as important, but i included it just because.

  • My Mac just shuts down

Looking for any answer on why my Mac just shuts down at times. It doesn't matter if I have a full battery or have it plugged in, there are random times when my computer just shuts completely down and I can't figure out why that is. Has anyone else experience this? Any thoughts on why it is happening?

do a software update, if that doesnt work, try opening disk utility in user\applications\utilities. then repair disk permissions. if that still doesnt work, then reset the pmu and pram. reset the pmu by shutting down, disconnecting the battery and powercord, and holding down the power button for 5 secs. i know this sounds ridiculous but it actually does something. next reset the pram by connecting a both power sources and holding the option-apple-r-and p keys. press the power button while holding down those keys and hold the keys until you see the grey apple and the spinning gear. (if you want to, just press the first three, press the power button, and then immediately press the p key. if this Still doesn't work...then your in an even bigger pickle than you are right now...which isnt much of a pickle...nothing should get erased from your hard drive just to let you know...

Other pc's normally just require password to return to previous state. I would like to know how to amend this, pls?

    Hallo
I understand what happen but you dont offer any relevant info for better understanding.
Do you use original OS that you got with your notebook?
Have you installed some additional software that can be reason for this unexpected shutdown?
Is your notebook on AC power supply when this happen?
Does some application runs when this happen (download)?
    > Other pc's normally just require password to return to previous state. I would like to know how to amend this, pls?
I dont understand what do you mean with this. Which password and which previous state?
What you see on your notebook is normal for unexpected shutdown.

  • Laptop is shutting down for no reason

I've been having this problem where my Toshiba Satellite M205-S4806 laptop just shuts off for some unknown reason.
Windows Vista is not telling the laptop to shut down, the laptop just dies on it's own.
I have done some reading online and it seems to be a common problem where dust gets clogged up in the laptop's fan which causes the machine to shut immediately shut off to prevent damage to the processor.
I'm not sure if this is my exact problem because sometimes I have have the laptop on for hours and it will eventually shut down, other times I will only have it on for 5 minutes and it just shuts off.
I have already reformatted my machine several times so any other ideas on how to solve this issue before I have to take apart this laptop to clean it?
    -Aaron

For all models identified, ensure sufficient air flow is occurring and the fan/exhaust unit are cleaned, helps with the overheating issue.  Check your power supply unit, if it is way too hot to the touch feasible it is time for replacement.  Also, check the quality surge protector you are using for its operation, indicator light is not blinking-just steady light.  Check your START/SEARCH type in eventvwr, locate systems log and open same and locate any erorr[s] listed and open same to learn what the problem was.  Remove the battery and see if the condition continues.

  • Mac Book Air shuts down completely if I close the cover and leave for hours.  Message: you shut down your computer because of a problem.  Any thoughts what is happening?

Mac Book Air shuts down completely if I close the cover and leave email running.  Is n't it supposed to just sleep and awaken whe the cover is reopened?  Instead, I have to boot it.  Any idea what the problem is?  I am unaware of any problem, just close the cover for safety.

Well I don't know anyone that closes the cove and leaves it for Hours... But try going to System Prefrences > Energy Saving > Uncheck Put Hard Disk to Sleep.

  • My Satellite laptop (A305) shuts down when run on the AC charger/adapter

The problem is that my Toshiba _A300 series laptop (A305) shuts down when you try to run it on the AC charger/adapter_. You can boot it with the power cord plugged in and it will get to Windows Desktop and maybe a few minutes more at most before shutting off.
It will boot and _run from battery without problem_, but if you plug in the AC while it is up and running on battery the machine will normally click off instantly and reboot to the message "Windows was not shut down correctly."
The _AC adapter works fine_ reading a steady 19.19 to 19.20 volts with a voltmeter. It also _charges the battery fine when the computer is off_. I have two Toshiba brand batteries and they both work fine.
One interesting thing is that the _computer runs fine on AC when in safe mode_.
I _did a reformat/factory restore_ of Vista to assure it was not software and drivers, and still got the same problem before any external devices had been plugged in.
It has the latest BIOS and I tried resetting it to default values in case anything had gotten changed. It made no difference.
This is _not a heating issue_ because _while it is run on battery I can watch long videos_ without it shutting off. I ran compressed air through the vents just to make sure, but it makes no difference in behavior. Usually with an overheating shut-off, the computer cannot be started until it has cooled some, but these shutdowns are accompanied by an instant reboot.
I have seen on some threads that this type of problem one can work around by disabling one of the processors in Device Manager, but I don't think that is much of a lasting solution or good for the computer.
Has anyone seen this problem before and have you come with a full diagnosis of the problem and a real solution?

I have Satellite A300 and until now everything works OK.
I would like to know what happen when you remove the battery and use notebook with power supply only. Does notebook shuts down again.
If not let OS run and put the battery.
Is the battery recognized properly? Does notebook switch off again?
To be honest I cannot imagine this issue has something with software or background processes. Recovery image you got with your notebook is designed for this certain notebook mode. Recovery image is tested and I dont think preinstalled OS has anything to do with this.
    Full diagnosis?
And how to do this? You know very well that diagnosis can be done with diagnostic tools only and such tools have services only. I hope you will find answers but Im 99% sure there is nothing you can do about that. Maybe you should contact service, explain the situation and ask for help.

  • Laptop keeps shutting down without warning because it thinks the battery is low, but it isn't.

My laptop is about 9 months old and recently it started to just shut down as if the battery were low. It is not low. It just did it now and the battery was at 80%. If I try to restart it it shows low battery and won't start. However, if I remove the battery and reinsert it, it starts up fine. Or, if I plug it in for a moment to start it up and then unplug it it works fine. The battery obviously still has plenty of juice left, but the computer is misreading it somehow. Although it still shows an accurate reading in the task bar. Any thoughts? Thank You.

    UltimateBid,
Thanks for the update. I do not see anything on my end that talks about it, you can try to update the BIOS and see if that resolves the issue, otherwise I would recommend service possibly.

  • L412 Laptop - continuously shutting down

I have a Lenovo L412 laptop from my company, which has sporadically been shutting down at random.  For the past few months, it was occurring every 2 or 3 days, 1 time.  But today, it shut down and I've been unable to get it to stay logged in enough to even open a file!  As soon as the system logs in, it simply shuts down - completely.
I am running this on a wood laptop stand with air vents.  I'm also using the power cord continuously because the battery has about 15 minutes of capacity.
When the problem first occurred, I gave it to my tech guys and they re-imaged my machine (losing much of my locally stored documents).  It did nothing to fix the problem.
I put a call in to them again and they require a ticket to fix the problem, which I'm unable to create since I cannot get into the system.  I'm writing this on my home Mac - which never has problems like my work PC.
Any suggestions on things I could try to get this working?  I can't afford a day of them munking with it and giving it back with the same issue.
    Thanks

I have the exact same problem with my Lenovo L412.

  • Iphone 4s turns/shuts down completely for no known reason, why?

my new iphone 4s shut down completely...and only holding the home button and on/off button reboots the phone.  but what causes it to automatically shut down to the point where itunes does not recognize the phone?

Ok, well thanks for confirming this.
    I have two other questions...
I found this : '' If you're getting the unit fixed by Apple, be aware that you must have the original HD installed. If it's a third-party SSD or hybrid, Apple will tack $950 to the bill; if you don't have the original drive anymore, Apple will return your laptop unrepaired. ''
    Is that true ? Because I actually have a hybrid HD and don't have the original...nor 950 $ ...
    I found this information on : http://logicboardmac.blogspot.ca
Finally, I also found information about a flat rate repair option ?

Anyone knows anything about this ? Woud this apply to my macbook pro ?

  • Laptop suddenly shuts down with battery at +60%

    Hey guys,
So i had my laptop for a 6 month now, it is an MSI GT683DX Windows 8.1/Updated from  Win 7 HP,  but recently i did a battery calibration using the offical MSI software (it just charges and decharges the laptop)
But now, my laptop would just die randomly whenever it is off the charger.
    The symptoms are:
When not plugged in, it would just die randomly. It won't do a proper shutdown/sleep/hibernate, it just goes black, as if you pull the power on a desktop.
About a month ago, the windows battery indicator would be a little off, sometimes it would show 15% left, where i would get a message indicating that it is at 15%. However, if i dont plug it in, it would suddenly show a message saying it has 2% left, and then just shut off immediatly. I have fixed this by setting the low and critical battery warnings higher, and didn't have a problem since.
So i think something is wrong with the windows battery meter, for example, the battery is actually empty and windows thinks it is at 80%. So can't finish properly calibration process it will just shut down and thinks that have 0% but I know that is fully charged and forced shut down at 60% or 70% ??
Is there a way to reset the windows battery stats? Or should i let the laptop totally run itself dead, by letting it shut off, powering on, and repeating this until it would not boot?
    Any help appreciated

Hi, may I know your OS is MSI OEM WIN7 HP or it is a retail version?
Have you updated the drivers, BIOS, EC after upgrade to WIN8.1?
Also you can remove MSI SCM and check if the problem still exists.
A better way to judge it is battery hardware problem or OS problem is to recover the OS to MSI factory default and check again.  I guess you haven't build any MSI OS recovery DVD before, so this way can't work.  Then maybe you need the help of repair center.
    Hi, thanks for help
So when I buy laptop it was WIN 7 Home Premium OEM and later I see some discount for Win 8 to upgrade machine..
Now using Win 8.1 and I don't think is OS problem, force shut down start to happening after I run MSI Battery Calibrate software.
Bios is not upgraded since win 7
Drivers and scm  running fine all from Msi site as well
    EC updated whit last version
So laptop running fine but it seems that I make mistake when I decided to run calibrate software due to max 5-10% error on battery counter..Now its 60% :-) I am afraid that my battery is dead...

  • Laptop doesnt shut down properly or sleep

There seems to be a big problem with my laptop. It seems to not shut down properly, or awake from sleep properly. When it goes to sleep, you need to hold down the power button to turn it off, then turn it back on again Also when you shut it down, the fan seems to be on, the light on the power button seems to be on, so you once again have to hold down the power button to turn it off that way to turn it back on I've updated the bios and rolled them back, and still getting this problem Pavilion p157na Thanks
