My laptop no longer senses my network

When I set up my network about a month ago everything worked fine. Tonight I tried to connect my work laptop to my netwrok, but it doesn't even sense the network. I see all of my neighbor's network's but not my own. I am SO frustrated. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Nevermind - clearly I am an idiot I deleted the previously created profile, and now I see it!

I have 2 macs and 2 PC laptops in my home wireless network. Can I use the Airport/Time Capsule hard drive to back up all 4 machines? I know that I will have to use different back up software on the PCs, but is it possible over the wireless network?

I have 2 macs and 2 PC (Windows 7) laptops in my home wireless network. (The iMac is hardwired via ethernet to the Airport/Time Capsule; the others are wireless connections using Airport). I want to use the hard disk drive in the Time Capsule as a network backup drive for all 4 computers. Is this possible? Could someone help me by telling me how to configure it? I know I will have to use different backup software in the 2 Windows 7 Laptops? Do I need to use the Windows backup software, or can I use a third party program like Acronis True Image? I read of all the things that go wrong restoring Time Machine backups.. particularly stupid things like mail, photo libraries don't go back.. etc. And looking through the incredible number of issues people have here, when their Mac finally takes a dive how hard it is to restore.
I restored a test hard disk from a TC.. and it takes ages and ages to even make up its mind to start.
I worked in computer support for ages, but not Macs.. so my experience is ghost.. ghost images.. on large commercial server setups, can stream restore to multiple computers at once.. even doing it computer by computer the image is simple as network boot to restore. But ghost went the way of Symantec.. sigh!! And was destroyed.

Can backup a Hard disk in just about any format.. yet to try it on a Mac to a TC.. but I will. Boot from CD.. instead of your lost Lion partition which no longer exists (because the hard drive had to be replaced) and the DVD they no longer give you, and restore the entire hard disk in a couple of hours .. to the exact image at the point you made the clone.. in any format, with any partitions.
My bet is that it will kill TM .. but you could be right.
It is just the prospect of all those permission changes, photos and mail libraries etc that worry me.

Yes it will work. I've done it for a few users in my small office. As with anything, there are quirks that you may or may not experience. Most quirks are app-related, due to app developers hard-coding absolute paths into their apps for things like temp files (Photoshop). Strategies for resolving these sorts of quirks can be found via google. You would probably have seen these quirks already when using server-based home folders for your kids. If you haven't noticed them, then you're probably fine.
The tech note you cited should be fine. It doesn't explicitly say so, but you'll need to enable ssh on your server, at least temporarily, so you can upload your home folder to the server using scp, rsync, etc. Don't try to copy the files up to the server via Finder.
Once all your files are transferred to the server and in the right place, make sure to chown them on the server, so they are owned by the userID you created for yourself on the server.
As with anything this involved, make a good backup of your laptop first.
Note I have one user that isn't too happy with the responsiveness of the periodic mobile home syncing. She has about a decade of e-mail in her home folder, probably 50 to 100 emails per day, many with attachments. Mobile home syncing takes a long time to check and sync this huge tree of itty-bitty files, eevn with server-side file tracking turned on. The other users are happy.
The nice thing about mobile home syncing is that when a user "graduates" to an age where they've earned their own laptop, you can change them from a server home user to a mobile home user, with a minimum of fuss. Also, if you lose or break a laptop, you can add a new replacement laptop to your network, and pull-down a replica of the home folder from the server, with almost no downtime.

My Apple TV can no longer find my network - help?

I've been using my apple tv for a LONG tme successfully until tonight.
It can no longer find my network (airport network)!
Resetting/restarting the apple tv has not helped. I can't update anything because it can't connect to the internet (even though my computer and phones and even roku are connecting just fine).
I've tried restarting everything (airport, internet box, apple tv) as well as plugging and unplugging things...
I had noticed a few times it was having trouble connecting but restarting seemed to fix it. My apple tv is from last year so it's not old.
Any suggestions?

Can no longer access a network drive

After upgrading to OS X Leopard (10.5), I can no longer access my network hard disk. I use a Linksys Network Storage Link that has a 320 GB hard disk attached to it. In Tiger, I could go to the Network icon in the Finder and connect to the disk. Now the network icon does nothing. Any ideas? THANKS.

Leopard sets your mac to avoid being a master browser so you don't see other shares in finder.
There are many ways around it but if you run a network with few machines and that is the only mac the fastest is to launch terminal as administrator and issue the following command:
sudo pico /etc/hosts
Add a line at the end with the IP address of your NAS, this is what I have in my hosts
192.168.0.100 Netdrive
Hit option X and save the file. Reboot the machine the NAS will come up immediately

I've done everything, removed key files in my /lib/prefs folder. Hard reset the AP card, SMC reset, Blown away "locations" etc... still no good.
I don't keep track of all the updates so I'm wondering if recently there was an update that could have done this and if so, how do I go back without any net access?

So not to have to go thru the expense of purchasing another card right now I'd like to take my TimeCap and put it on my MacPro. I know I can't connect to the internet this way but I can make a priv network and using my laptop, change over to that network to share files, so....
Can I make a VPN between the two networks? i.e.,
My laptop that is wireless to my Verizon DLS router AND
My priv network on my MacPro....
Just to xfer files so I don't have to keep changing networks on my MacBook Pro?

Laptop no longer can mount my external hard drive

After updating to Mavericks, my laptop no longer can mount my external hard drive. What on earth is going on here and how can I fix this?

The drive is spinning and I was using it the night before I updated my macbook. It is viewable in disk utility but not in finder, and attempts to mount it are thwarted. The problem is literally coincident with updating the mavericks. When I click verify it didn't appear to have any problems but I will retry when I am back at home and report the findings.
It is a Toshiba 1GB external hard drive and has adequate power. Lights are on, etc.
I have not checked on another computer as do not have one available, but that will be my next step.

The song's names still appear in the music library, but when I try to play the song, anexclamation pt. comes up to the left of the title, and it says the file cannot be located.

When I tried my suggestion, I had around 3 three separate folders on my computer which had music in them. The music in these folders was dragged and dropped into iTunes when I was adding it onto my iPhone.
I had foolishly moved some of the music from the other folders and into the music/iTunes folder iTunes then showed the exclamation mark beside these tracks and showed the not found or words to that affect window/popup. I then placed the folders (that contain the music) back to their location which there were at when I originally dragged and dropped them into iTunes, after this the exclamation mark and the not found window naturally did not appear anymore.
I then done the following:
iTunes 9:
Choose File > Library > Organize Library.
A message will pop up.
Place a check next to "Consolidate files" and click OK.
After I had done this, all the folders that contained the music that were in the 3 separate folders, were then placed in one folder, which in my case was,
C:\Users\MY USERNAME\Music\iTunes\My iPhone\iTunes Media\Music
Sometimes (depending on the device) it can be (your username)/music/iTunes/iTunes music

I found my old iPod shuffle and thought I would sync my iTunes library onto it, now my laptop no longer recognises my ipad! Very frustrating!

You can try this:
I am assuming you are running Windows:
Plug in your iPad to the PC.
Now go to "Start"   - "devices and printers"
Is your iPad showing there ?   (you may have to scroll down)
If you can see it - right click the iPad icon and select "Troubleshoot"
If the USB driver is missing/incorrect it will tell you.

Trying to print from a Windows XP laptop to a Mac Home Network

Help! I have a home wireless network (netgear) using a DSL line. I have an iMac G4 and an iMac G5 cabled to my wireless router and I have an iBook G4 running wirelessly on the network. In addition, I have an Epson C84 cabled to my iMac G4's USB port. All the computers can print flawlessly to the C84 using printer sharing in OS X 10.4.6. My problem is this: I also have a Windows XP laptop that uses this home network for internet access (which it does with no problem) but I want to be able to print to the C84 printer as well from the Windows laptop. I cannot seem to make it work. I have turned on "Windows" and "Printer" Sharing in OS X preferences and I have also tried loading "Bonjour for Windows" from Apple onto my XP laptop but that doesn't work either although it seems to "see" the printer - but gives me a connection error message and won't print.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Looks like you have relocked a hacked phone when you updated. The only way to fix it would be if you could figure out the original carrier and see if they would unlock it.

3GS No Longer Senses Orientation After iOS4 Install

After loading iOS4, my 3GS no longer senses the rotation of the phone in Photos, Safari, etc. I can not view these apps in landscape mode with the iPhone rotated on its side. However, when I take a photo in portrait and landscape orientation, the photo is recorded in the correct orientation. So, the inertial sensor still works but the hooks to the aforementioned apps appeared to have failed. I tried rebooting and reseting the phone without luck. I also closed all multitasked apps. No joy. Any ideas?

Why does my laptop no longer connect to our WPA2 shared network drive?

Our Airport Express is set up to give us access to the internet plus access to a shared network drive via a WPA2 key. Suddenly, I can no longer access the shared network drive, even though my wireless internet access is fine, and the Airport Utility is "recognizing" my computer. I am the only PC user in a house of unsympathetic Mac users who are not having any similar problems! Can anyone tell me what I should do to fix this?
