My laptop recognises iphone 4s but says there are no photos

I connect my iphone 4s to my laptop and it asks me to trust and I click OK but then it can't find any photos to download!!!!  It used to work.  I think it could be since the latest update on the phone?!  Does anyone know how I can get round this and download my photos?
Fingers crossed x

You have reached the 'old folks home' of the Apple Support Communities.  The iPhone was just a twinkle in Steve Job's eye when the 'Older Hardware' in this discussion group was in use.  Yes, the iPhone 4 is older hardware than the iPhone 5, but for the purposes of this arena, the iPhone 4 is still twenty years too new.
Translation?  You will want to repost your question here to talk to someone who owns an iPhone.  We are still using twenty and thirty year old computers that are on life support and have adult diapers on leaking capacitors.

  • Suddenly, one of my iPhoto Libraries will not open, or rather iPhoto opens, but says there are no photos in the file.  However, when I backed it up and looked into it otherwise, the images 86gigs are still there in the file. What to do??

Suddenly, one of my iPhone libraries will not open with 86 gigs of images: it opens and says there are no photos, yet by other looking, all the images are there and when backing up, it takes an hour.
Somehow iPhoto application will not recognize the images (over 13,000) in the file.
Any suggestions as to how to fix the matter<
    Dr. Harris, Bermuda

To move from iPhoto 08 (which is v7) to iPhoto 11 (which is v9) requires that you purchase iPhoto 11. Your software update is running just fine. V7.1.5 is last version of iPhoto 08.
Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
    As to the problematic library:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • I imported about 300 RAW images yesterday and worked with them for about an hour. iPhoto locked up on me and I rebooted. After I did the event icon is now gray and it says there are no photos. I know the photos are there. Any idea how I can recover them?

I imported about 300 RAW images yesterday and worked with them for about an hour. iPhoto locked up on me and I rebooted. After I did the event icon for that event is now gray and it says there are no photos. I know the photos are there. Any idea how I can recover them?

a best practice to is to never have any computer program (including iPhoto) delete the photos from the card but to import the photos and keep them and then after at least one successful backup cycle has completed and then reformat the card --  I use three very large (32 GB) cards in rotation so I do not reformat for typically a year or more giving me one more long term backup of my photos
Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database

How did the photos get on the iPod?
If they are not in the iPod's Camera Roll album (e.g., synced to the iPod), you need a third-party program like TouchCopy or PhoneView

    Issue or symptom
iTunes may display a message that it could not update iPod because the firmware file was corrupt or not found.
    Products affected
    iTunes 7 or later
    Any iPod
    Solution
The message does not indicate that there is an issue with the iPod but that iTunes was unable to read the firmware file it uses to restore or update your iPod. You can delete the folder containing the firmware files so iTunes can download a useable (non-corrupted) version.
Here are the steps to take if you get this message:
    Eject iPod and quit iTunes.
Use Disk Utility in Mac OS X or run chkdsk in Windows to verify there are no other issues on your hard drive.
Locate the iPod Software Updates folder:
In Mac OS X, the folder is
~/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates (~ represents your home directory)
    In Windows, the folder is
    C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates
Note: If you don't see the files in Windows, turn on the Show hidden files option.
    Open My Computer.
From the Tools menu, choose Folder Options.
    Click the View tab.
In the Advanced Settings pane, select the "Show hidden files and folders" button.
    Click OK.
Drag the iPod Software Updates folder to the Trash or Recycle Bin.
Connect iPod and open iTunes. You will need to be connected to the Internet to download the files.

  • Trying to transfer photos from mini sd card via adapter to iPad but get there are no photos message

Can anyone help, I am trying to transfer photos from a mini sd card via a apple adapter but get a message telling me there are no photos to transfer. Any ideas on a fix? Graham1955

The photos must be located inside a folder named DCIM, and their names must have eight characters plus the .jpg
iPad SD Card Reader supports SD standards up to SDHC, miniSD and microSD with adapters, and MMC.
    SDXC is not supported.

  • When I try to sync photos, it says There are NO photos to be found ?

I'm trying to syn all my photos onto my computer but when I plug it in it wont work, I cant add a new deivce becasue the options dont show up, when I got to computer all that shows up is an empty DCIM folder.
On windows 7 Auto play pops up but when I say import photos, a pop us says No photos were found on this device
How can I fix it ?!? I wanna keep the photos, but I want them off my iPod
P.S. I have 20,000 pics and I want them on my computer, I dont want Photostream or iCloud to fix it, all I want are the photos saftly on my computer. I DONT WANT ANYTHING PERMANETLY DELELTED

It sounds like the photos are not in the iPod's Camera Roll Album. Only can be imported via the camera program on the computer or via the DCIM folder.
For other phtos yoyou need a third-party program like PhoneView of TouchCopy

  • TS3989 I had photos on my camera roll on my old phone, bought a new one and selected those photos to be a shared photo stream but when I sent it to my wife and opened it on my new phone it says there are no photos shared - these photos are more than 30 da

Just bought a new iPhone 5 and wanted to send pics from my camera roll on my iphone 4 as a shared photo stream to my new phone and my wife's phone.
I selected the pictures and created the photo stream and it showed up on my new phone and she was able to accept invite, but when opened the stream contained 0 photos and a message that says "No Shared Photos"
These pictures were admitedly older than 30 days. Is that the rule that pictures from your camera roll older than 30 days cannot be shared as photo stream?
I apprecaite all guidance on this issue. For those answering - yes everything else photostream wise is connected and working so there's no issue with setup - my question simply is can a user upload photos older than 30 days from the camera roll to a shared photostream?
    Thank you

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
30 days is only applicable to My photostream and even then it applies from the time they were added not mwhen they were taken (unless it's the same time)
I'd be inclined to restart your wife's phone and see if that helps, otherwise you might try turning photostream off and on again on her phone.
Note: disabling photostream and re-enabling it will result in any photos that are currently in the photostream album on your device, that are older than 30 days old, not being added back.

Please do not use iPhoto to rebuild the library. Doing so breaks the brushed adjustments (at least) from Aperture.
    I cannot confirm this.
I made a new Library in iPhoto. Imported some images. Quit iPhoto.
Open the Library in Aperture. Brushed in some effects - most obviously, B&W. They are quite visible in Aperture.
    Quit Aperture.
    Opened the Library in iPhoto.
The brushed in effects are quite visible.
    I quit iPhoto.
I Rebuilt the library with iPhoto. I chose the 'Rebuild Library' command
I opened the Library in Aperture. No change. Brushed in effects are still there
I Quit Aperture and opened the Library in iPhoto. No change. The brushed in effects are still there
The fact that you are seeing this problem, along with difficulty seeing individual projects, suggests some corruption in your Library to me.

  • IPhoto recognises camera but says I have no photos to import - help!

What the subject says... I am using iPhoto 8.0.4. I have an HP Photosmart R727. I have always imported my photos exactly the same way - I plug my camera into my Macbook with a USB cable and the photos import automatically. I go to import some photos today and my Macbook is recognising the camera being plugged in but says there are no photos on it. There are 33 photos on it! I've restarted everything, checked for updates to iPhotos, etc. No idea why this is happening, as I say I've not changed any settings. Ideas?
I don't have a card reader, the photos are on the memory in my camera.

You may have a format problem with your memory card - does your camera mount to the desktop so you can look with the finder? Or do you have a USB card reader to mount it?
The free trial version of Media Recover - http://www.mediarecover.com/ - will tell you what it can recover form the card - you will have to purchase it to actually recover the photos
Once you have them safely in iPhoto use your camera's format command to reformat your media card and see if that that cures things for the future
