My laptop Shutdown without warning

My new hp pavilion that I bout around october 2014'seem to be shutdown without warning. it shutdown with the shutdown window appear thou. it happen 3 times. please help

Hi @timotius ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Notebook and having it shut down without warning. Here is a link to restore the BIOS. Please note remove any and all USB devices, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices.
Can get to safe mode with command prompt?  sfc /scannow would scan your system for errors at the command prompt. You could check this Microsoft document on system recovery options.
Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system. If you needed an update this could cause what you have installed.
Did you install any software or hardware?
Hope this helps you.
Thanks.

    what shoud i do
how can i change these settings to get battry low warning??

This sounds as though it may be related to a bad reading of the handsets battery life. I personally would suggest performing a software repair to resolve this issue. You can use PC Companion to achieve this task.

  • Satellite A205-S5803 (Shutdown without warning)

I have Satellite A205-S5803.  It automatically shutdown after regular use of 2 or 3 hours without any warning.  I changed the hard disk yesterday because it shows the windows starting bar but not open the windows loging page and it shows mouse pointer and hard disk goes off. I treid to install new windows from recovery cd but it also load the window then hard disk goes off.  Then I change the hard disk and now problem is it automatically shutdown without any notification or warning.  I am very disponting due to this situation and don't these problems raise as my warranty over (my warranty finsish before 2 months).  I request to you kindly guide me properly what I do.

Either of these two are for your computer.

So far as I know they will work in Slot A, with Slot B empty of course.
BTW, Windows Vista will barely work in 1 GB. Those computers should never have been released.

  • HP Pavilion g6 Notebook - Sudden shutdowns without warning when battery is low

My notebook is only ten months old. Within the last week, it started shutting down unexpectedly when the battery was low (but not at a critical level). If I try to restart it, there won't be a response until I plug in the adaptor cord. Usually there will be around 20% of my battery left when my computer is booted up after such a shutdown, so I don't think it's because of my battery being low. (Besides, when I've accidentally used my laptop until it has to hibernate, the light next to the port for the adapter cord usually blinks to tell me it's the battery.)
Initially I thought it was a problem with overheating, so I cleaned my vents and bought an external laptop cooler when it first shut down unexpectedly two weeks ago. However, the shutdowns have become more frequent since then. I've run the Memory Diagnostic Tool, the HP Battery Check, and updated my BIOS. No problems have come up; in fact, everything seems to be running perfectly. I also ran AVG and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. No problems there either.
What could be the problem? Thanks for any help!

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1

Mines started doing exactly the same! Its just 12 months old though and hardly ever gives me a low battery warning. Then it will turn off without shutting down the proper way. When I plug in and turn back on, the battery says its at 20-25%
Is there actually a solution to this and whats causing it?..because if it's the battery then **bleep**..they don't last long.

  • Macbook shutdowns when battery hits about 20% without warning

I have a Macbook that was recently upgraded to Leopard (v10.5.1). Anytime I am running on battery power and I get around the 20% battery level remaining the system will just do a hard shotoff. No warnings or prompts, it will just shutoff, and I will lose anything I was working on.
Has anyone heard or seen this issue? Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Same exact thing happened to me. There's a long thread about this issue here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5979961
First thing to do is check your battery's health in System Profiler. If your battery's "cycle count" is less than 300, and your health is anything less than "Good," Apple will replace the battery within two years of its purchase date. They may require some cajoling to do it, as noted in the thread, but the two-year warranty is official, as noted here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/macbook_macbookpro/batteryupdate/
+"For MacBook and MacBook Pro systems with Intel Core Duo processors, this program extends repair coverage on the battery for up to two years from the date of purchase of the computer."+
+"Affected batteries will have one or more of the following symptoms: ... Battery exhibits low charge capacity/runtime when using a fully charged battery with a battery cycle count (as shown in System Profiler) of less than 300."+
Of course the oddity in all this seeming hardware mess is Leopard. I admit, the shutdowns without warning only started after I upgraded, and others have noted the same thing. Did Leopard uncover a problem with my battery, or exacerbate it? All I know is that my new battery is working great, fingers crossed....

  • HP 250 Laptop - When running on battery turns off without warning and won't restart

One month after warranty expires this laptop presents with this problem. It shuts down without warning when running on battery, although the battery has plenty of charge. Following shutdown it won't restart on battery. Plugging in power and restarting it displays a message that the battery is cactus before continuing to boot. When trying to run F2 on startup battery check it simply doesn't progress past the initial screen (1%) and [esc] key does nothing. Need to power off. However, REMOVE the battery, boot the computer, shutdown, REINSTALL the battery, turn on and everything is OK - most recent example showing battery with 95% remaining. Continues to work for a few days until it decides to fail again. Suspect the battery is not at fault here, and in any case can't get a replacement (thanks HP for providing equipment with rare and unusual parts) - one supplier has only two on order which will be delivered some time in September!! Usual third party providers don't provide a replacement for this battery. Have seen a lot of references to this sort of mystery "battery failure - shutdown with warning" but no concrete solution. Have tried different power setting including never hibernate, but these seem unrelated. Open to useful suggestions at this point.

  • Satellite A30 always shutdown without any prior warning

    Hi all,
i'm having a problem with my Satellite A30 notebook. It will always shutdown without any prior warning. But the thing is i don think its a heating issue with the fans. The notebook will only shut down if im running the laptop on high power or on full power by the AC adapter. Tasks that may be taxing like full system virus scan or playing games will cause it to shutdown after about 20 minutes again only on high battery power setting or if its connect to mains and is set on full power. Using word or simple tasks do not affect it.
Now im thinking there may be a problem with my cpu as it cannot handle it when it has to perform advanced tasks on my notebook. What could the problem be?? On low power my notebook will work fine even when its performing these advanced tasks it's only a problem when its on full or high power.
    Any help/advice?

    Hi
Thanks for the description I'm still thinking its a overheating problem.
The notebook power saver controls different power modes if the notebook runs with AC adaptor or with full power the power saver uses different power mode as when the notebook will run with battery only.
The different power modes support different CPU settings and different cooling method.
Probably the CPU runs with full performance and getting hot when the AC adaptor is connected.
I think you should check the cooling modules and fans. Try to clean it carefully with vacuum cleaner. But if you have no experience with such procedures then asks a technician or someone with more experience

  • HP Laptop DV5000 shuts off without warning

My DV5000 is shutting off without warning at different stages of starting up. It has shut down before the splash screen, after the login screen, after getting to the desktop, in regular startup and safe mode. Tried taking out the battery and unpluging the power adapter, held down the power button for 30 seconds. Tried starting up with no battery using only the power adapter and got to the desktop before it shut down. Charging indicator is flashing to indicate that it is charging when plugged in. Was working fine last night, then we had a power outage (car vs fire hydrant city had to shut off power because water was hitting power lines). Nothing else in house seems to be affected by the outage. Not sure if just a coincidence or because of the power outage that the problem started. Used canned air to blow out vent and fan areas still not staying on. Any thoughts????

    Hi,
I bought my laptop to two years ago this past October. I have tried to boot up without the cell battery attached also. To no avail.
I finally got it to boot up with the recovery disk. First recovery disk worked fine, second recovery disk, error message. Bad Disk

    Same issues here:
    - When powering the MB on the battery, the MB can go off suddenly without warning, usually at about 20% but, since it started about 2 months ago, it occurred also at 7%, between 30 and 40% and even 70% once… It occurs every time when on batteries. And every time, if I start the computer again, it will shut down suddenly without warning after a few seconds/minutes. When back on mains, it can be powered on normally. It does not go to sleep, it's a complete and sudden power off without warning.
    - The battery at about 173 cycles sees its capacity dwindling way too much (it's been dwindling since day one, but it's going down faster and faster, the graph since November 2007 in MiniBatteryLogger is edificatory). The capacity right now is between 2900 and 3460 depending of the feel of the day. It's been calibrated regularly since day one in July 2007. Note that the capacity dwindled from its original capacity but never went higher than this value even if along the way it recovered sometimes more capacity.
I have tried all the tricks from calibrating a little bit more often, reseted the SMC, even a complete system reinstall (that I wanted to do anyway as I had to get rid of the evil spotlight bug). All this to no avail.
    So what? :-/

  • MBP switches off without warning at 15% battery

After recently upgrading to 10.6.5, I was working on my MBP and when it hit 15% of battery, without warning the laptop completely shut itself off. To reboot, I had to plug it in to power up. This has happened both times I've run low, and I have yet to get a battery low warning message, or an orderly shutdown. My MBP simply shuts off. Never had a problem like this before. Any solutions? Similar experiences?

(n_n) is correct. Modern batteries are "smart devices". They have a computer chip that informs the operating system how much power is left and the OS uses that information to approximate how much time is left before the battery is drained. Based on this information the OS can tell you how much time you have left, when you are running on reserve power and when you are close to depleting the battery. As you use the computer, running on battery and recharging it, the onboard processor and the OS get out of sync and that's what you experienced.
Apple recommends that you calibrate your battery to prevent this. I've set up a repeating calendar event to remind me every other month. My wife, whose computer use is different from mine, has her reminder set for every month.

  • U410 (i5) Turns off randomly without warning

    Hello
I just purchased brand new U410 for my sister. On the first day it turns off without warning, multiple times, but then it survive without any incident for hours until I shutdown it properly. I thought it was faulty driver and the bundled windows 8 need an update. I updated the windows 8 and installed all the driver available on Lenovo Support website. Well it runs perfectly fine for few days, then I give it to my sister as a birthday present. Yesterday she use it for the first time for browsing the internet and creating presentation then the U410 just turned off without warning. She turned it on but after few minutes, it's turn off again, repeatedly. She gave up and cry. As a brother who gave her the laptop, I have to responsible to make it works.
Next day I try to use it for work, and it's happen again, turned off without warning multiple times. I decided to take it to store where I purchased it. It works normally perfectly and smoothly without any trouble. i felt like a fool. Then when I get back on my desk, use it for few minutes then it turned off, again and again.
I'm not an expert on computer technology, I'm just a basic user. I read the other forums, they said it can be solved by re-install or tweak something, honestly I don't have that capability. Taking it back to Lenovo Service centre is difficult, I live in rural area in Indonesia with limited internet and transportation support.
I have try to change the power management and nothing happen, it just turn off suddenly. I've spend more than 24 hours downloading drivers for nothing. I need help and already desperate. Lenovo? Help.
PS. My laptop is U410 bundled with Windows 8
    Serial Number QB06157482
In the box there was only the laptop and charger. Nothing else, not even a disc or thumb drive.
    Sorry for my poor english.

  • IBook g4 keeps shutting down without warning! Help please!

    Hi everyone,
The problem in brief (as I'm scared the laptops gonna shut down again and I'd have to restart)
    - I just upgraded my Tiger to Leopard
    - Everything WAS running smoothly for approx. 4 hours, then as I was playing around with iTunes, the mac shutdown
    - I had to restart it but as soon as I logged in, I was told "My Time and Date is set to a date before 1970", and that I was not connected to the Wireless.
    - Just as I was connecting to the wireless, it shut down again.
-Once again I turned it on, and the same messages appeared. This time I managed to open safari before it shutdown again.
    - I took out the battery, and used the AC power, but it shutdown as well.
    - The battery, which was shown as fully charged 10 minutes ago, now on the lowest green light out of the 5 green lights situated at the back of the battery pack : s
So right now I'm running on AC power without a battery, paranoid it's gonna shutdown again without warning. Does anybody know what's wrong?
Your help will be much appreciated
    Thanks.
    Dakota.

    Hi,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
It sounds like a bad battery. Try putting the battery in while it's running on the adapter then launch Apple System Profiler (Apple Menu>About this Mac>More info) and click on battery. See what its capacity is compared to the absolute capacity (4400). If it's 50% or less you need a new battery.

  • Why does Firefox continually close itself without warning, but reopen prior tabs, without an error message or crash report?

For the past couple weeks Firefox has been randomly closing itself, without warning. I will be on another program on my laptop and Firefox will shut down. But, when I reopen it, all my tabs will restore as if nothing happened, and there is rarely a recovery error alert. I also do not receive crash reports for this phenomenon. Everything about the browser seems to be working fine as usual otherwise.

I'm sorry but I think you didn't get the problem right. Firefox just unexpectedly closes. It does not crash. There are no crash reports.

  • PB G4 Shuts Down without warning

    Hi everyone,
Recently I have noticed that my PB G4 (1.5 Ghz with OS 10.4.11) will randomly shut down without warning. The battery bar on the top right of my screen will not be in the red zone when this happens. I have also noticed that when I do reboot my laptop that I get a warning that my Date and Time are set to before 2001 which apparently will screw things up. But when I check them, they are set to today's date.
    Can anyone help me please?
    Thanks in advance,
    Bettina

Hi, bettina. Before replacing your clock battery, test it as described in this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=30017
This may confirm that it's bad, or may encourage you to focus on finding the problem elsewhere.
What suggests that the battery is bad is the fact that your clock is wrong at startup. If your Date & Time options include obtaining the correct time from a network time server and your computer is connected to the internet all the time, that explains why the clock is reset to the correct time very soon after starting up.

  • It just shuts down without warning

    Hi there,
My MacBookPro shipped on 06.2006 is shutting down without warning after more or less one hour when in battery use (The battery has 142 cycles). I've already reset and recalibrated the battery but without success. I also did the efi updates and the resend battery update also no success. The power level seams to drop rapidly without warning. The used battery is also not included in the apple exchange program (wrong serial no.). It is normal for a battery this age to have a power decrease but at least I’d like to get a warning before the computer shuts down. Please help me with your suggestions.

OK, first, let's be clear on this and all future posts: is the MBP running on battery (NOT plugged in) or is it pugged in. You can see that if it is NOT plugged in, then there could be battery issues and that's the first thing I would try to diagnose. There are several posts in this forum about that problem (which doesn't pertain to me or to esqjake, since our problems occur in both situations). If I can summarize:
    1) download the latest software; if you have a MacBook (not Pro) you need to have a Battery Update. MB Pro's don't need this.
    2) Check your battery life and charge, using System Profiler. In OS 10.4 there's info on Power; the Battery section looks like this:
    Battery Information:
    Battery Installed: Yes
    First low level warning: No
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 4657
    Remaining Capacity (mAh): 4330
    Amperage (mA): 939
    Voltage (mV): 12560
    Cycle Count: 124
Apparently if the cycle count is under 300 and the mAh is low then you may qualify for a replacement battery. You'll have to search for yourself in the Forum for the exact numbers, sorry, since that's not what I'm experiencing I didn't write it down.
Now, on to the second type of problem: the MBPro shuts down *+without warning+* typically after being woken from sleep. Note that this is not a typical shut down; the computer just turns off. Also note, this is not a kernal panic, where the screen goes dark like a curtain is coming down and you get a polite message in multiple languages to hold the power key down to restart; no, the computer just turns off. Also typical is you have to hold down the power key for 5+ seconds (until you hear the tone and the power light flashes) or it won't restart; it will start for a few seconds and turn off again. Once I've restarted, it seems to work OK until the next time I try to wake it up; my current solution is that I'm just leaving it on. This has been called Random Shut Down Syndrome or RSS; you can do a search yourself if you have some time. Google will get you half a million hits or so (there's even a website called www.macbookrandomshutdown.com); there are far less in these discussion forums (and less help here, too, I've found. Doesn't Apple have an administrator looking at these posts?). Unfortunately, most of the hits deal the the MacBook, not the MacBook Pro. However, perhaps one of them will help.
Here's what I've found as possible causes:
    1) a warped battery (mine isn't);
    2) reset the System Manager Control (SMC)(unplug, battery out, hold down power key 5+ seconds, reboot);
    3) due to overheating (again, it has happened immediately after waking from sleep, so it's the case is cool); or
    4) there are some posts about looking through the console logs (Use the Console app located in the Utilities folder, and open console.log, console0.log, or consoleX.log). The console and system logs haven't been helpful for me personally (occasionally I've gotten the "previous shutdown cause= -82" message in the system log, supposedly a sign of RSS, but this is not consistent).
Now, here's something I found today, a simple test to see if you have RSS, but it is old and pertains (yet again) to the MacBook, not the Pro. However, I'll give it a try.
    http://blogs.zdnet.com/Apple/?p=274
Anyway, I'm ready to bring mine in; I just can't afford to be without it just now. No data seems to be lost, so I'm just trying to get by, and put up with the RSS.
I hope that helps. Maybe some of the "Top Users" would like to help? I'm still lost.
