My laptop that had my iTunes on it has exploded (in a sense). I now have a new laptop, but I'm afraid to plug my iPod in because I know it will wipe out all 300 songs. Is there a way to put my old music on my new laptop?

(After my old laptop blew, it won't turn on anymore). I've invested quite a bit of money into my music, and it'd be a bummer if it's all gone to waste.
Thanks in advance!

Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

Buy yourself a backup drive. Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. Syncing is one way, computer to device, matching the device content to the content on the computer. The exception is purchased content.

Why would you set up a new account?
Copy everything from your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.
Its wrong to assume that everyone has a backup copy.
    are you PC or Mac?

There is no other way you can do now. Actually, you don't need to create a new Apple ID account, you can change the Apple ID from old email account to other email accout easily by all the steps below.
1, Open iTunes > iTunes Store > log in old Apple ID > Click on your apple ID on the right hand side on top > choose account > Apple ID > Edit
As long as you only change your Apple ID, then all the old apps are still under your new email account as well as you can keep downloading new apps.

No. If one of those accounts is inaccessible, click here and request assistance.

  • Both my iPod and the laptop that had my iTunes library on it were stolen, is there a way to retrieve my former iTunes library?

A few months ago my iPod and laptop were stolen. Is there a way to retrieve my old iTunes library or a portion of my old iTunes songs even though I do not the iPod or the laptop?
Any and all help is welcome and needed.
    Thanks!

Use the backup to put back what you have... something is better than nothing.
Any purchases that are still missing can be downloaded from iTunes.
    Downloading past purchases from iTunes
If the iTunesLibrary.itl file was not a part of the backup, your library is gone.  Playlists will need to be recreated, playcounts are gone.

  • Is there a button combination that will wipe out all phone data

I'll be turning in my iPhone 4  to Verizon to obtain the $200 credit against an iPhone 6. What is the recommended way to wipe out all my personal data that is currently on the phone?
    Mark

Go to settings>general> reset > erase all content and settings.

  • Initial sync of Books will wipe out all music???

I have an iPhone 4 running iOS 4.3, and I'm running the most recent version of iTunes.
In iTunes on the Summary page for my phone, I have "Manually manage music and videos" selected.  I have loaded up my iPhone with about 10 gig of music, which took a lot of time to select, drag and drop over onto the phone in iTunes, etc.
Now I have a PDF that I want to add to my iPhone by adding it to the Books tab, checking 'Sync Books', and moving it onto the phone.  The problem is that when I check 'Sync Books' it warns me that "Are you sure you want to sync Books?  All existing songs, movies, and TV shows on the iPhone will be removed".
I certainly don't want to have my music deleted because then I'll have to re-install it all.
Even though I have "Manually manage my music selected", why is this Book Sync option still trying to delete it?
Is there another way to get a PDF onto the iPhone without syncing it?
    Any help would be appreciated.....
    Thanks,
    John

I manually manage my music because I have about 60 gig of music in iTunes, and only around 10 gig of space on my iPhone.  So I just dragged my most important music onto the iPhone because I don't want to sync all of the music that I have in iTunes.  It won't even fit....
So, now that I've been manually managing my music, what you're saying is that if I turn on the option to sync books it will wipe out my music and I'll have to do it all again?  Obviously you're correct from what I'm seeing with that warning messgage, but that seems absurd to me.  I don't understand why the two settings are not independent of each other.......
    So...........There's no way around this?

  • My husband has an Ipad that his company bought him that has their own apple ID for him, however, we have purchased a lot of music on our personal Apple ID.  Is there a way to put OUR personal music on his work Ipad?

My husband has a work Ipad with a different Apple ID.  Is there a way to load our personal music onto his Ipad with our Apple ID?  We don't want to have to repurcahse music just for his Ipad.  When we put it into our computer is asks us to switch the Apple ID, but we don't want to mess anything up for his work.

iPads are meant to be single user devices, with single ID's. The only way I can think of is if you burned cd's of your  music, then ripped them on the work computer that he syncs with and get them on the device from there (I'm guessing this will work, I don't purchase music do I don't know if the DRM travels when you burn cd's or not).
You can't run 2 different apple ID's on the same iPad.

  • Is there a way to remove the old apple id on 'new' refurbished ipad

I purchased a refurbished ipad mini from the apple store. It came with someone else's AppleID on it, and I cannot get it to sign in on my AppleID. Is there a way to remove the old account and replace it with mine, or do I need to return this?

  • I have a new Imac (used to be windows); when I buy a new song, imac threatens to wipe out all my songs/movies/shows/games.  What do I do? Can anyone help?

I used to be on windows but the computer died.  I got an imac but when I try to buy new contents from the iStore, It threaten to delete all other material I previously purchased?  Does anyone know what I can do, please?

You need to transfer everything from your backup copy of the old computer to the new one.
Ipod touch will sync with only one computer at a time.  When you sync to another it will erase the current content and replace with content from the new computer.
If you have failed to maintain a backup copy ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from the ipod:  Without syncing - File>Transfer Purchases

  • When downloading iTunes onto a new computer, is there any way to automatically import old music files? Last time I got a new computer I didn't have to use an external drive to update my music library.

When downloading iTunes onto a new computer, is there any way to automatically important songs from your previous computer? I recently cracked the screen on my computer and cannot access any files. Last time I got a new computer my iTunes media files automatically appeared in my iTunes when I downloaded it, and I did not have to use my external drive. Is this still possible?

If your backup copy of the old computer was not stolen, then use it to put everything back.
