My laptop touchpad keeps freezing

My laptop touchpad sometimes suddenly freezes and I am unable to move my cursor.I have to either plug in a mouse or restart my laptop to be able to move the cursor again. I have updated synaptics drivers, installed from Hp site. My friend having similar model laptop faces the same problem. Further I would like to add that the problem persisted ever before updating the driver. Any help is welcomed

Same here...My HP Pavilion g6-2208au is doing exactly the same thing...Have updated the driver..uninstalled and re-installed the driver and it seems to work when it wants to, which is not very often..The Synaptic program seems to disapear from the control panel as well.....Very frustrating.....

It is not easy to say why this happen but I think it is definitely software related issue.
I don't know how many experience do you have with operating systems and are you ready to search for problem or you want to fix this quickly.
If you want fast fix use Toshiba recovery disc and install OS again. With clean preinstalled operating system everything should be OK again.
Otherway follow instructions I found on the internet:
I have few steps here that might fix the issue.
First, I suggest that you boot the computer in safe mode and check; safe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs do not run in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed, follow the steps to boot the computer in safe mode with networking:
A.) To restart the computer in Safe Mode, restart the computer and tap the F8 key for about four to five times. You will see Safe Mode listed in the Windows Advanced options. Select Safe Mode and then press enter.
Now check if you are able to work with your programs, if you are able to boot the computer in safe mode then the problem might be with any of the start-up items conflicting on your computer.
B.) You may have to perform clean boot on the computer, to help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows Vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.
The following link has steps showing how to perform clean boot: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
    1) Perform clean boot (Check the link for Performing clean boot)
    2) Enable half of the services
    3) Determine whether the problem returns
    4) Enable half of the startup items
    5) Determine whether the problem returns
    6) Repeat the above steps until you find out which service or program is causing the issue
After you determine the startup item or the service that causes the problem, contact the program manufacturer to determine whether the problem can be resolved. Or, run the System Configuration Utility, and then click to clear the check box for the problem item.
Note: Please ensure that the computer is set to start as usual by following the step 7 from the article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
If the issue still persists, I suggest that you perform a System File Checker [SFC] scan on the computer, this replaces corrupted system files with the Version of Windows system files on the computer, follow the steps to perform a scan:
I would suggest you to empty the temp folder and later follow the steps below:
    i. Click Start>>type %temp% in the search box>>press enter>>delete everything present in the temp folder.
    1. Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
    2. Right-click cmd in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue
    3. At the command prompt, the following line, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow
When the scan is complete, test to see whether the issue that you are experiencing is resolved.

  • Laptop touchpad cursor freezes.

In my arch box, sometimes, my laptop's touchpad can't control the cursor in the middle of my session. Moving my finger over the touchpad makes it scroll instead. All mouse buttons and keyboard shortcuts still work. This is remedied by a reboot. What should I do to fix the problem? I am on a dell studio 1555.
    Thanks,
    sakekasi

Try if the problem disappears if you remove the scrolling part from your configuration.
The configuration file is located at /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf.

  • My laptop keeps freezing when i start it up

I posted this on my phone, by the way, since I couldn't even open up Google Chrome without my laptop freezing.

For some apparent reason, my laptop keeps freezing right when I start it up. When I type in my password and my desktop screen comes up, I try to go to control panel to uninstall an adobe software I had downloaded but caused my laptop to lag (I downloaded it from the adobe website, itself). But right when the control panel windows comes up, and I try to move my mouse around a bit (I use an external mouse thing), my laptop freezes right there. I tried to go to McAfee to scan for viruses just in case but it froze when the windows came up as well. I tried doing the ctrl + shift + esc thing and I don't think anything's going wrong but when the window comes up and I move the mouse around a bit, my laptop freezes. Nothing's overheating and dusty or anything. And no matter how many times I tried to force shut my laptop down by holding the power button until it turns off, it still freezes every time. Someone please help me troubleshoot this.

It will freeze almost immediatlly when I turn on the laptop.
Does it occur before Windows begins to load?
If so, software on the hard drive is not responsible.

hi there, i am trying to download itunes to my laptop but it keeps freezing at the same spot everytime.. i have been trying to do this for a couple of weeks but i'm not having much luck! Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this please?????

You can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you can download the full offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

  • My laptop keeps freezing- help!

ok, my laptop keeps freezing. it's a toshiba satellite l305-s5907. It has been run through every type of virus, malware, registry cleaning scan available, and it still happens. it seems to happen after the computer goes to screen saver mode, when trying to exit screen saver mode it freezes. i'm sure i just have some sort of setting out of whack. i've tried changing screen savers to no avail. i've also tried to reinstall the power management program in windows vista (i have the 64 bit). it's like when i try to turn the computer back on, it's in a sleep mode that it won't come out of. i can feel the fan running and the hard drive spinning, but there is no light at all on the screen, and the only way to get it back on is to hold down the power button and shut it off, then turn it back on. please help!

it boots everything loads up on desk top...and it freezes after few seconds
Maybe this is a lame reply too. Try these two experiments and let us know if it happens.
    1. Boot into Safe Mode.
Start your computer in safe mode
    2. Boot into another user account. If necessary, create one.
       Create a user account
PS None of us helping out here work for Toshiba. I don't even have access to one.

  • My MacBook Pro (Early 2011) keeps freezing, the fan becomes extremely loud and the laptop gets very hot, what can I do?

    Hi there,
I would be grateful if any one could help me. I purchased my MacBook Pro  13 Inch in August 2011, it was the "Early 2011" version, which was shipped with Lion (I have now upgraded it to Mountain Lion last year).
Up until a few weeks ago, it was running fine. But recently my MacBook keeps freezing (A circular rainbow appears on the cursor), slowing down, the fan gets very loud and I often have to restart the whole machine. This usually happens when I'm running programs such as Safari, Preview or Microsoft Word
I only use my MacBook for university work so I only have Microsoft Office and iWork installed, nothing else. I've only used 19gb out of the 320gb available. I've also reseted my MacBook to its factory settings but that hasn't fixed the problem.
I've checked my AppleCare status and it says:
    Repairs and Service Coverage: Active
Your product is covered for eligible hardware repairs and service under a custom agreement.
For more information about your coverage, please contact us.
Estimated Expiration Date: 24 August 2014
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to how I can resolve these problems, as it is stopping me from doing my work?
    Many thanks.

Call Apple and make a appointment, backup your use data off the machine to a external drive.
Don't bother with TimeMachine if it asks, too long and likley be corrupted and unable to restore, just drag and drop your Users folder to the external drive.
