My laptop will not connect to the internet

My laptop will not connect to the internet but my desktop and other laptops will. Can anyone suggest anything?

Yes I don't see problems there.
I presume the 10.0.2.29 on the Mac is just a typo.
There is a good chance windows is just being stupid, which is not surprising.
Reboot the whole system.
Restart in correct order.. modem.. TC.. 2min gap between them, and then PC.
Test with just the PC running.
See if you can open a web page.. no luck
In the command window again, ping the various IP addresses.
So ping 10.0.1.1 first.
Then ping 8.8.8.8
If those pings work, then try and ping a website. eg www.google.com
Does that work or not?
If ping works and the web pages won't open that is one of those hard ones.
Make sure under network in the PC it is located at home.. not work or public. Windows has this nasty habit of flipping itself autonomously between these settings.. take off the firewall if it is still a problem.
And finally go into the TCP/IP settings and change the DNS to 8.8.8.8

My laptop will not connect to any internet networks, instead it shows a Red Cross where it usually has the signal.

It last worked before I took the computer apart to clean the cooler fan, then the day after that I noticed I could not get any internet, although sometimes it comes up with my wifi which is talk talk and says it is limited and then goes off again to the Red Cross.
Check to see if the antenna cables are connected and the wifi card is seated in correctly.

  • Laptop will not connect to the internet, cannot get configuration box to pop up

Cannot get laptop to connect to the internet.  I tried the instructions on the link form Linksys.  I entered 192.168.1.1 in the address window but the configuration window does not pop up.

Is the laptop connected to a wireless network? Is it connected to your network name? If it is check the IP address for me. Go to Status of your wireless connection then Details, tell me your IPv4 IP address.
If the laptop is not connected to any wireless network. Do you have a wired computer or can you attach your laptop to the router, check your IP address. If it's in the range of 192... try if you can go to http://192.168.1.1
I'll be waiting for your reply.

  • I have installed a Apple Time Machine now my Windows laptop will not connect to the internet

I recently installed an Airport Time Capsule without any problems and my iphone, ipad and Macbook Air can all connect to the internet without issues, but my son's Windows desktop suddenly won't connect to the internet.
It basically joins the network and shows that it has internet access but when you go to any webpage it says, "unable to connect to the internet"
I rang the BT helpline as i have installed the Mcafee anti-virus, which was free, thinking that there might be a confliction? After a few checks i was asked to disconnect the Time Capsule and re-connect the BT router. As soon as i did that i got internet access on my sons machine.
BT suggested i speak to Apple as there is obviously something i need to do to the desktop to enable it to work with the Time Capsule, and it is beyond their capability.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance, Pete

hmm, well I would say that raises the possibility of an issue with your ipad, and lessens one with your router.

  • My laptop compaq presario will not connect to the Internet anymore after buying airport extreme. Why? It detects the network, accepts my password, but will not connect to Internet.

My laptop compaq presario will not connect to the Internet anymore after buying airport extreme. Why? It detects the network, accepts my password, but will not connect to Internet. I tried to repair connection, tried to reboot modem several times, I even updated my computer. Nothing. All it says is that it does not detect modem. Why?

Welcome to the support community group.
First, are you sure that your AirPort Extreme has been configured correctly and is properly connected to your modem?
Begin by telling us how you have things connected and if the Airport Extreme is replacing a previously owned router or is this an entirely new installation?
First be sure that your modem is working and properly connects you to the internet using an ethernet cable directly connected to your laptop.  Once you're sure that's working, reset the AirPort to factory defaults by disconnecting it from power and pressing and holding in the small reset button on the back  for 15 - 20 seconds while you reconnect it to power.  Then turn everything off for 5 minutes. Connect the Airport to your modem with and ethernet cable to the Airport WAN port on the back (check the user guide to make sure you connect the cable to the correct port) then connect a second ethernet cable between the laptop and one of the LAN ports on the AirPort Extreme.
Then power up the modem first, wait 5 minutes and then power up the Airport, wait 5 minutes and finally power up your laptop.
Then run the airport configuration utility from your laptop.  Since you're not using an Apple computer, be sure that all of your firewall, and virus blocking and checking software is disabled before you run the airport configuration utility.  Once you run the utility, it should detect your AirPort and allow you to use the configuration wizard to set things up.
Check back if you're still having problems.

  • My Satellite A25-S279 (WinXP) will not connect to the internet wirelessly since UVerse was installed

My Satellite A25-S279 (WinXP) will not connect to the internet wirelessly since UVerse was installed. (Rather, I should say
it 'connects', then immediately disconnects.) When I had regular DSL, there was no problem, but since UVerse installation,
I can connect ONLY with the ethernet cable.
Thinking it was my 'old' computer, I took it to the local computer place---they were able to connect instantly (wirelessly) AND maintain connection. Sooo...I've told this to ATT, & had 2 different techs out here, both of whom were very patient & tried EVERYTHING they could think of,  & both of whom failed to fix the problem. They maintain that it is NOT the fault of the modem/router, but is some 'miscommunication' between my laptop & the modem/router.
Is that possible? Is there a setting I need to change on the laptop? If it worked BEFORE UVerse, and if it STILL works at the Computer store, and if it works WITH the cable, why won't it connect wirelessly?
Thank you SO much for any thoughts!

It is possible. While it's not common, sometimes you could have a working router and a working wireless card in a laptop, but they just don't communicate. It sounds like that might be the problem unfortunately.

My macbook air will not connect to the internet. There is an exclamation point in the wifi icon and when i go into preferences i see that it is setting its own IP address. I have a macbookpro that is able to connect with no issue. HELP

Reset the TC to factory and start again.
Use all SMB type names for wireless and base station.. Not apple type names.. this is more important since Mavericks.
I also recommend different names for the different bands.
    So for example.
TC name.. TCgenx (I use whatever the generation number is for the x.. eg TCgen4 or latest one TCgen5)
    WIreless name.. TC24ghz for 2.4ghz
    TC5ghz for 5ghz
You can also set the channel manually.
If you still have issues.. start with no security and then if it fails to connect there is something seriously wrong with the laptop. Did you upgrade install Mavericks?? That can lead to driver issues.. I would recommend a clean install.

  • My macbook pro is connected to wifi but it will not connect to the internet.

My macbook pro is connected to wifi but it will not connect to the internet. When I go on safari, it says that "Safari can't verify the identity of the website". Then I tried to update flashplayer but you need the internet to update it. All this only started happening after that Moutain Lion software was downloaded onto the laptop. Please help, I have been internet-less for a couple months now.

    Hi rynhelp,
If you are not able to connect to the internet after installing Mountain Lion, see this article for information on how to start troubleshooting:

When my iphone connects to wifi, everything else in my house will not connect to the internet. They all show 3 to 4 bars on connection strength, but unable to access the internet.  The second I turn off the wifi on my iphone, everything in my house runs fine. What is going on?

Had a similar problem a number of years ago with a laptop my daughter had. The probelm turned out to be the router. What kind of router do you have? Have you checked for firmware updates, or at least tried re-booting it?

  • Ipad will not connect to the internet?

My iPad has been working fine for a year on my WiFi, but suddenly will not connect to the internet.  Both my laptop and desktop connect just fine.  I have tried rebooting, resetting and deleting the WiFi connection to reestablish it, but nothing has worked

This isn't my forte' but resetting the router often works.  We have 2 Ipad 1s and over the last year and a half maybe 3x one of them wouldn't connect.  If I reset the router, even without doing anything other than check the connection in settings, it would reconnect and be fine for months and months,  Worth a try,

My ipad recognizes my home network but will not connect to the internet. When I click on AirPort/preferences at the top of the imac screen it says..."AirPort has a self-assigned ip address and may not connect to the internet". If this is the root of the problem, how can I change ip address?
Ipad will connect no problem to other networks.

First thing you need I think is to get your iMac connected to the Internet.
Shut down your iMac and you iPad. Then power off your router. Wait 30 seconds and power up the router.
After the router indicates that it is connected to the Internet then start up your iMac and see if it connects. If the iMac connects to the Internet then your iPad should too.
If this power up sequence doesn't work you'll have to dig into the router setup to make sure it is working properly.
