My laptop won't load hard drive

Hello,
I have a big problem.
Recently I wanted to reinstall my Windows, but when i start installing I can't pick any partition where to install OS.
When I come to "Where do you want to install Windows?" screen there are no options, and at the bottom all I can see is "We couldn't find any drivers. To get a storage driver, click Load driver."
Any solutions?
Thank you

Hi @HPYESME ,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see that you are having a problem with your installation of Windows. It could be that there is a problem with your hard drive. If you going into the BIOS do you see your hard drive listed there? How long have you had your notebook for?

All I can suggest is to reinstall Windows, see link below on how to order recovery media for your model. You will have to reinstall Ubuntu after using the recovery media so back up your files to an external drive. You can order HP recovery media below, or call HP on the phone to order 1-800-474-6836

I have tried and failed to copy my iTunes library and playlists from my Windows 8 desktop to my Windows 7 laptop using an external hard drive. Can it be done? Help would be appreciated. I have followed instructions found online but the library of music doesn't pull in.  Thanks!

Migrate an iTunes library from one computer to another
These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entireiTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one, with ratings, play counts, playlists etc. preserved. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd normally recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library and unlike copying with Windows Explorer the process can be resumed if it is interrupted and it will continue to the next item if there are any read/access errors.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See Make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then seeRecover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • I have moved all of my music from my laptop to a portable hard drive...need help :( cant play music

    Hi all,
I moved all my music from my laptop to a portable hard drive, my hope was that i could just plug and play into my mabook air not the case...
I was wondering if anyone could help with the following, in a perfect world i would love to be able to keep the music on my drive (there is about 500 gb worth) and then when i want to play through mac to apple tv be able to just plug into mac and then be good to go, or if poss for itunes to be able to recognise the music on my portable drive...and for me then to play through itunes without adding it (as there wouldnt be enough space)...and to also have the capability to plug the drive into my windows comp and be able to also still play from there.
I dont know if any of this is poss...it all seems really complicated to me...and i am new to mac.
If anyone thinks they could help please get in touch!
my main goal is to be able to play my music through apple tv to the surround system in the house, and to be able to play music through my mac if poss, doesnt have to be itunes so long as i can air play or even better select through apple tv.
thanks so much in advance to anyone who can help me out
p.s. i tried this...didnt work, unless i am doing it wrong

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - a somewhat bewildering and not always easily understandable set of options.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.
For the record there's this reference for iTunes 11 but it really doesn't strike me as having the specifics you need. iTunes 11 for Mac: Move your library to another computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12168
Windows users see tip at: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18879381
If you put it in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)
Do not confuse (as you did) moving your whole folder and library with moving just media files as in
iTunes for Mac: Moving your iTunes Media folder - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449

  • My MacBook pro won't recognize hard drive I put in it. It boots only to a white screen unless I boot to my recovery USB. If I do that then I can select my USB and my external time machine drive in the disk utility, so no problems there. But what do you

My MacBook pro won't recognize hard drive I put in it. It boots only to a white screen unless I boot to my recovery USB. If I do that then I can select my USB and my external time machine drive in the disk utility, so no problems there. But what do you think it is? It won't recognize any hard drive I put in the machine, so might it be the sata cable?

Boot the Recvoery USB, use Disk Utility to select the internal drive makers namea and size on the left.
Now select erase and select the midde option and click erase, it will take a bit to complete but it's best for the drive.
Now select Partiton tab, click the big box and Options: GUID and then Format: OS X Extended journaled and click apply.
Quit and you should be able to install OS X now with your Apple ID and password.

My iTunes appears to be installed on my laptop (25%) and external hard drive (75%). To get it all in 1 place is it simply a copy-paste exercise for the folders?

Most probably, you have a 'private'-folder = part of an AVCHD-structure on your root-level of that drive.
Put it back into its folder (or any folder) - done.
    Don't rip AVCHD-folders apart!

  • Computer Won't Recognize Hard Drive

I wanted to do a clean install of OS 10.5.  Wiped hard drive using Tech Tool Pro 4.  Now computer won't recognize hard drive during install.  When it asks to what volume I want to install the OS, the screen is blank.  This is a new one on me.
Anyone have any ideas?  Thank you.

Boot to the Installer/Utilities DVD, but DO NOT Install.
Answer only the "what language" question if presented, and wait a quarter minute for the MenuBar to be drawn. Choose Disk Utility from the Utilities menu or the Installer menu.
Use Disk Utility to Erase the drive again. Be sure you are getting Options GUID partition map.
Then use Disk Utility to partition the drive to one partition, Mac OS X Extended (Journaled).
Select the drive and choose Mount. It should not produce an error. Now you are good to go on the Install.

  • Laptop won't load | Broken Hard Drive? | Need Expert!!!

Hi. I'm new at the forum.
I don't speak English very good so please do not tell me that I wrote something wrong
I've got problem with my 2 years old laptop. 2 days ago I wanted to save two screenshots in Paint via print screen. First screenshot saved, but I can't save second. Paint sayed that he don't have access to hard drive or something (I really don't remember now). 0,5h later I wanted to install Win 10 so I needed to make other partition ( E: ) but I still can't. diskmgmt.msc sayed that drive can may be broken and it can't change memory of C:
Now I can't launch my laptop. I have access to BIOS and Recovery but that's it. I see only HP logo and "Starting Automatic Repair" text.
Now I need help. Does somebody had this same issue and know answer for my question?
    Cheers,
    Kuba

    Hi Kubeg,
Welcome to the HP Community. I saw your post regarding the problem with your hard drive. In the BIOS can you see the hard drive listed? Try seeing if you can access the UEFI by pressing F2 as mentioned in this HP document Testing for Hardware Failures. Under components test there is a test for the hard drive. That will let you know if the hard drive has indeed failed.

  • MacBook Pro Won't Boot, Hard Drive Full

Ok so recently my Hard Drive became full and I thought that I would clear up some space eventually but I wasn't going to delete files just yet so I switched my laptop off.
Now when I go to turn my MacBook Pro (2012 model, 13-inch, 4gb ram, 500gb hard drive) on it gets stuck on 50% of the load bar and it simply will not budge from there. I have gone into recovery mode with cmd R and verified and repaired my Disk which wasn't even damaged in the first place. And I tried to reinstall Yosemite but couldn't  because of the lack of free space needed.
I reset the nvram (pram) multiple times and it still wouldn't start.
Then I tried to boot into safe mode which still didn't allow the bot sequence to finish.
Finally I went into single user mode and run the code: fsck -fy and the hard drive was fine. So finally, I felt like I had to delete files using the single user mode, but I have no idea about the entire UNIX system so I am really stuck.
I used this blog to get started: http://www.curphey.com/blog/2012/10/24/mac-wont-boot-full-disk/
first of all I didn't get the log into your  root account bit at the start because mine just went straight to the terminal like black page and so I mounted the disk so that  it was writable with the sudo /sbin/mount -uw / code. However, now I am completely lost. How do I navigate to the downloads folder and actually delete the files
?? Could anyone please give me line by line code to do this? Or otherwise is there any other way I can start my Mac up again? I need it for Uni desperately.

    From single user mode:
    cd /
    cd /Users
    ls  <-- (a lower case L)
    cd <youraccountname>
    cd Downloads
    ls
Then: delete <filename> , if it won't let you try: sudo delete <file>

  • Can I use my time capsule to connect a Dell laptop to a remote hard drive?

I have a time capsule network at home for my apple computers. It works great I can even send jobs wirelessly to the printers from all my computers including the Dell laptop with Windows Vista. I would like to be able to back up the Dell laptop Windows Vista machine to a Western Digital My Book Mirror Edition storage system. I'm having problems with the Dell recognizing or finding the WD hard drive. Does anyone know if I can do this?

Yes it recognizes the WD when I directly connect the hard drive. Yes it is recognized on the Mac and the Dell but only in the Airport Utility software for windows nothing on the windows machine is able to recognize it and finally yes I have Bonjour loaded and two printers are working fine on my complete network of machines PC's as well as Apple machines. I tried every resource I could find online and I can't get the system to recognize the WD hard drive I'm stumped.

  • Mac Pro Won't Boot, Hard Drives Are Fine, Passes Hardware Test

I have a Mac Pro 1,1 that will not boot anymore.  The hard drives are just fine.  I put them into another Mac Pro 1,1 and they started up fine and that computer is running great.  I have replaced the RAM, put in new Hard Drives, I only have a keyboard, mouse, and display plugged in to it, and it still won't boot.  What happens is this:
Boots up, shows the gray screen.  Shows Apple Logo.  Goes to Black with mouse cursor, stays at the black screen.  I can move the mouse cursor as normal.  Sometimes it turns into a color wheel, but most of the time it's a normal pointer.
I have run the hardware test several times, both quick and extended.  Everything always passes the tests.  I can boot into target disk mode and use the disks fine via firewire.  When I try to boot from a Lion USB disk, or a Snow Leopard DVD, it always does the same as above and stops at the black screen.  Basically, once it gets to the point where it loads an OS X system, it stops at the black screen as if something isn't working right.  Any thoughts?

once it gets to the point where it loads an OS X system, it stops at the black screen as if something isn't working right.
That is the point at which the graphics card starts the Mac OS X loaded graphics Driver, and it may indicate that your graphics card is broken.
Try Safe Mode (hold down Shift at Startup). It takes five minutes to check the Boot drive, then display a login screen. You need your username and password to proceed, even if you normally auto-login.
Safe Mode uses only "simple" graphics. It does not load the graphics driver.
If you need a replacement card, I recommend you skip over all the refurbished and repaired old graphics cards and install nothing older than the Apple-Firmware 5770, about US$250. It works in every model Mac Pro, and drivers are in 10.6.5 and later.

  • OSX won't see hard drive...

So a friend of mine thought she could use her external time machine hard drive as a normal "plug in plug out HD to transfer other files"...
So what she would do was turn time machine off and transfer files, put them on another computer then put it back on her laptop and turn time machine back on...
something might be corrupted now because even though disk utility sees the drive, I can't access it... it won't let me "fix" permissions either.
She doesn't have a backup anywhere else so I didn't jump in and start messing with it for fear I might make it worse...
does anyone have any idea on what to try first?
    Thanks

So, then, Disk Utility can't repair the drive.  What errors did DU report?  You may need to try
Disk Warrior to repair the drive if it's reparable.  If not then you will probably have to reformat the drive.  In that case you may need to recover data that's recoverable.  See the following:
    Basics of File Recovery
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
Also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on Data Recovery.

  • IBook G3 won't boot hard drive

    Hello guys.
Recently I got a whole slew of iBook G3s, broken and new, which I will eventually fix and sell (probably keep one) but I am still in the process of fixing them and have a few questions.
I have this hard drive that I'm almost certain works (I can install tiger on it without it crashing) but it refuses to boot to tiger. I know it's not the iBook itself because I have a different hard drive that boots great, even in other iBooks too. I'm figuring the mbr config is jacked up, and ive already tried option apple pr and reset nv ram, reset defaults, and so forth in the firmware. How do I make this darn thing boot? And yes, I have tried to boot directly from the cd, but when it restarts it just sits there with the two faced mac face and the blinking question mark. I bet I'm going to have to do some magic in the OF, but I don't know what to type, so yeah...
    Thanks.

    But you said:
+I'm trying to boot from the OS X Tiger CD, and I know there's nothing wrong with it because I've done a full install on another hard drive and it was fine.+
Are you saying it did boot off the CD and install, but now it won't boot off the CD?
By the way, Tiger normally comes on a DVD. There are a few copies on CD out there, but they are relatively rare. Is your copy of Tiger on CD or DVD? Have you used a retail copy of Tiger for the installation? If you used an Tiger install disc from another Mac, that may not work on the iBook.
