Are you facing any error message while opening a PDF file?
Does the error occurs with a single PDF file or with all the PDF files?

On my iPad using safari, and, with firefox on my iMac, I con open .pdf files on our club web page. However with Safari I only get a black blank when I try to open them on my iMac with Safari. FireFox works fine . Could there be a setting on Safari that is not allowing pdf files to open?

help!
Have you tried deleting all previous versions of Adobe first?
If not, do a search for it on your mac and then uninstall. Then download the most recent Adobe and search for that, then launch it from the search window.
I'm no expert, but I had the same problem and this worked for me. It's on the Adobe help page, follow the link from where you're downloading it, there's a few good suggestions there. -

What's,with,the,commas?
If you have a tablet that runs full Windows 8 - not Windows 8 RT, which is limited.
And if you install the full Adobe Reader for Windows, not the special Adobe Reader Touch for Windows 8.
Then you will have the same features as a desktop.
Unless they can't be accessed in touch mode, since it isn't a touch app. -
Hi!
I think my question might be simple to answer, so please if you read this give it a try...
I just bought a new laptop with windows 7 on it. Adobe Reader 9 was allready installed. I wanted to open simple pdf files, but I got the message "Adobe Reader ?" in an empty field that pops up.
Why can't I open pdf files? Do I also need to install the Adobe Flash Player as well?
I would be very glad if you could give me a hint.
ThanxIt appears as if Adobe Reader is not correctly installed. Try installing the latest version 9.2 from http://get.adobe.com/reader/ - make sure that you uncheck any unwanted software bundled with the download.
P.S. no, you don't need Flash Player to open PDF files. -
Why wont my PDF files upload to my website?
I have not been able to upload certain PDF files to my website. They upload to my (non-website) e-mail as attachments fine, but not to the wesbite. Other file formats, and very small 'test' PDFS upload fine, but ones over 2MB, whether 'locked' or not, just wont upload. The status bar gets about a tenth of the way across, then I get an error message.
Can anyone offer a solution? It says "the document has features not supported in this reader" and I haven't been able to open it in literally anything except for on my friend's laptop, nothing on my tablet will open it and there isn't many things I can download on the tablet instead

What error messages are you seeing (if any) when trying to open the PDF file with Adobe Reader Touch?
Have you been able to open that PDF file with other PDF software, e.g. Adobe Reader XI?

Preview not opening pdf files unless they have an pdf extension
Preview will not open pdf that does not have a pdf extension. If I give a valid pdf file a random extension like .xxx, preview opens without windows. If I give it .jpg it opens with a questionmark in a window. If I give it pdf it open without a glitch.
Why cannot Preview detect whether a file is open-able or not an not give a **** about extension. This is not windows but a unix system
The problem exist when a pdf file is downloaded by firefox and not given a .pdf extention in the downloads folder. In Safari the file is opened without problems inside Safari.Yeah, but Preview wont open the file at all, even through the open dialog, all files not associated with preview are greyed out. Shouldn't a program open a file if told to?
Yes, I agree with you. I also could not open the files unless I changed their extensions.
Also the "file" command has no problem finding out it's a pdf. I believe its an obsolete thing specifying filetype on extension, and not on content. Is is possible to get preview to open the file depending on content and not on extention.
Like I said, I think this was a conscious choice that Apple made with OS X, but I'm not sure why the decided to go that way (maybe posting on one of the dev lists would give you the answer to that).
I haven't been able to get Preview to open files once I've changed the file extension... -
Adobe Reader doesn't open .pdf files anymore. Error: 213:11.
Adobe Reader doesn't open .pdf files anymore. It's written Error: 213:11. Details: laptop with Windows XP, Adobe Reader X
Are these local or online documents? If online, in what browser? If local, does the documents folder and docs themselves have sufficient permissions?
Is there anything else beside the number 213:11? -
please help me
I, too, am having trouble opening large / oversized pdf files after a recent update to the new interfaced Acrobat Reader. This is a URGENT request to fix. I create posters and banners all the time and when I try to open pdf files that I have created, all I get is a blank white page in my file. The file size is large, but only a blank white page is showing when I open it.
I am on a Windows 8.1 laptop. Please help!! -
Disable the pop-up message box "How would you like to open this file" to open pdf file??
Hi,
is there any way i can stop the pop-up box displaying to open pdf file in sharepoint document library? Right now whenever i am trying to open pdf file, asking "how would you like to open" Read only or edit mode. currently MIME Type is setup
but still pop-up message box.
Thanks in advanced!Hi ,
As far as I know, This is a default feature. and is not recommended to delete or deactivate this pop up.
This is a feature of office and there is a dll called owssupp.dll which is responsible for getting the popup to open.
You can go to IE tools> addon settings and deactivate the above dll (sharepoint open document class). But if you do so, then the other office office files which are word/excel/pptx etc.. would aslo gets affected and they also wont get the popup.
Hope this helps.

Adobe Reader XI - Can't open PDF files
My mother has Adobe Reader XI installed on her laptop and still can't open PDF files. We've tried uninstalling and installing several different versions and nothing seems to work. Can someone please help? Thank you.
It's when she tries to open things that she gets online - like credit card statements, etc. It's also stuff that she gets emailed to her as a PDF attachment. It'll look like the document is going to open, but then she gets the following error message in a pop-up window:
There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If it is running, please exit and try. (103:103). -
Problems opening PDF files from Websites
I just had the contents of my (dying) ibook transferred onto my emac. The tech created a new user/desktop on the emac. Now, when I try to open PDF files from a website, I get a window saying this:
"Downloading - users/myname/desktop/xxxxx.pdf could not be saved because an unknown error occurred. Try saving to a different location."
Points to note: 1) The "xxxxx.pdf" part of the above message changes each time I try to open a pdf document, even the same one, and it does not show the real name of the document (e.g. CollegeApplication.pdf)
2) this never happened on my laptop;
3) the settings are set in Firefox to download pdf's to my desktop;
4) I have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat, which I already tried opening before downloading.
Any ideas? Thank you! Will the new account save to a different location?
Is the "myname" that appears in the error message that of the new account or of the old one?
Following up on Frank's tip about file permissions, is it possible that the GID of the new user account conflicts with the existing? The existing admin user was likely GID = 501 on both Macs, and depending on how the laptop's data was transferred, the internal ownership of the transferred files still points to 502 rather than say 502.
have you tried the old standby of running Disk Utility's Repair Permissions on the hard drive? -
New to forums. Trying to open pdf files from web, and no luck, despite following Adobe trouble shooting suggestions. Using OS 10.7.5. no flickering or messages, just a tab with a blank screen. Older documents fine, nothing changed until this week. Downloaded X1 in attempt to solve problem.
Yes i tried following your list of commands and got the same error from MyMathLab by Pearson Publishing or the other link. I'm beginning to wonder if they are protected.
As you probably guess - I am not computer savvy. I will take my laptop to school tomorrow and ask another student.
Thanks for your followup.

What's wrong with my xorg.conf?
I just installed Arch + KDEmod and I think I'd like it, but I can't get any video driver to work correctly. The open-source ati driver crashes immediately (just like in Ubuntu, I could never get that one to work) so I'm trying to catalyst drivers.
