My laserjet 2100M prints jibberish

All of a sudden my trusty laserjet 2100M is printing one-line jibberish on multiple pages.  Even if I type one six-letter word in "Word" and ask it to print, the printer gives me 10-20 pages of rubbish and I can't get it to stop, even by cancelling the job, until it is good and ready.  I tried to download another driver, but when I get to the part where it asks me if I want to unzip, I do so.  Unfortunately I do not even know what that means, and even though it says it unzipped successfully, it doesn't tell me what to do next.  Any suggestions, please?  Thanks.

Your laserjet 2100tn  is a commercial product. I will suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support for a better chance at finding a prompt solution.

  • HP Laserjet 2100M not on printer list

I have a HP Laserjet 2100M and have been trying to get it to work with my Macbook, freshly running Snow Leopard 10.6.2. The printer worked fine with OS 10.4.11 before I added Snow Leopard (it was a clean install, I had a HD failure and started out with a new HD). The 2100M is listed as one of the printers supported by HP printer driver package 2.3. I downloaded this package. However, when I pull up the Add Printer box, no HP printers are offered. If I go to the Print & Fax queue, the only two printers listed are the ones I have successfully added previously (an HP 3900 & Epson R1800). No other HP printers are offered. Based on what I am reading in previous forum questions, it sounds like the HP 2100M, although getting dated, should still work with OS 10.6. The printer is in excellent condition and I would really like to continue using it if at all possible. What am I doing wrong or what can I do to access the available drivers in HP printer driver package? Although the installation was slow (the last element takes 2-3 minutes), my computer said that it was installed successfully.
The printer is connected by ethernet. I should note, since I generally don't know a lot about these things, I did try to reinstall the earlier driver before I understood I did not need to do this. I don't know if that earlier attempt messed something up or not.

I emptied the HP folder in the library (as the next respondent suggested) and reloaded the driver package. That did not do it. Another Forum discussion I located in December seemed to indicate that the IP number might be necessary but I was trying to avoid that. I have made some efforts to locate the IP address for the printer without luck. Any ideas how I can acquire it? I have printed the test page and the 2nd test page (pressing go and cancel buttons at the same time) but no obvious IP number appears. There are PCL, PCLXL, and PS numbers listed under Installed Personalities and Options. I thought these might represent IP numbers but the format is different (19980828 under PS for example). This could be written 199.8.0.828 which looks more like an IP format but as soon as I get the 199 down (at least using the PS number), the computer tells me this is an invalid HP IP combination and that I am using third party software and it should not be. I have only used HP software. My suspicion is that the IP number is not on this page.
Another possibility: I noticed that in the HP Printer folder (within the Library folder) that the Laserjet folder only has a file titled hplastjetzjs.bundle in it. Is this file supposed to be expanded?

  • HP Laserjet 2100M not printing with 10.6

    Hi,
I've been trying to print a document all evening on my HP Laserjet 2100M with the HP 100 Mbps network module. I've tried it on both my iMac and my MBP, no help there. The printer program is saying that it is sending the job to the printer, but the light does not even blink on the printer.
    Any idea?

    Hi Andrew, I'm back home!
First I did a Telnet to the printer address and confirmed it had the right settings. All looked perfect to me.
    ===JetDirect Telnet Configuration===
    Firmware Rev. : G.08.49
    MAC Address : 00:30:c1:0b:a5:b9
    Config By : DHCP
    IP Address : 192.168.1.10
    Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1
    Syslog Server : Not Specified
    Idle Timeout : 90 Seconds
Set Cmnty Name : Not Specified
    Host Name : REPLICATOR
    Default Get Cmnty : Enabled
    DHCP Config : Enabled
    Passwd : Disabled
    IPX/SPX : Disabled
    DLC/LLC : Enabled
    Ethertalk : Enabled
    Banner page : Disabled
OK, I reseted the printing system. Then I added my HP LaserJet using the HP Jetdirect - Socket mode (as I always did in preview OS X version). I put the IP address of the printer, let the Queue name empty, Named the printer and the Print Using auto selected correctly HP LaserJet 2100 series. Then I clicked Add. The print dialog tried to "Connect" to the printer for Installable Options. This was taking forever to finished. So I clicked on Configure... and selected the options I knew was there myself.
I tried then printing from Stickies (something simple), it told me the printer was busy. I put it off, then on, and retried and it worked... Try a page from Pages too, working...
Maybe reseting the print system helped, because last week I also put the printer off then on, and the problem stayed there. Tried the same on my MBP, and it worked too! Cannot figure out what I did wrong the first time. Maybe I really needed to print something, and Murphy's Law came in!

  • HP Laserjet 2100m endless printing with no print job loaded

I sent a print job to the wrong printer. Then I deleted that print job and re-send the print job to the HP Laserjet 2100m. It prints a line of garbage at the top of the page and feeds it through, then it continues doing that endlessly. I've even rebooted the PC, but whenever I turn on the printer it continunes just as before. There isn't even a print job in the que. What can I do to fix this? Thanks.

This seems to be a commercial product. For the best chance at finding a solution I would suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support!

  • HP Laserjet 2100M not connecting

I recently connected an HP Laserjet 2100M to my iMac (running OS X 10.6.8) and was able to make it work by directly connecting the two via ethernet cable. It took a while to get it working, after finally finding the right driver and IP address.
I only have one ethernet port, and I would prefer to have my router connected to it because my wireless connection has been slow recently. Therefore, I disconnected the printer from the computer and plugged it into my router (Linksys s3500). Internet connection works better but now the printer won't print. The computer recognizes it, saying it's idle, but it won't connect when I want to print something.
I've tried deleting the printer from System Preferences and re-adding it, and that didn't work. I can't enter the printer's IP address in the Network preferences because then it won't recognize the router's IP address.
I'm using driver version 5.3.0 (HP Laserjet 2100 series). This is what worked when I had the printer directly connected to the computer.
How can I get the printer to work through the router?

I emptied the HP folder in the library (as the next respondent suggested) and reloaded the driver package. That did not do it. Another Forum discussion I located in December seemed to indicate that the IP number might be necessary but I was trying to avoid that. I have made some efforts to locate the IP address for the printer without luck. Any ideas how I can acquire it? • HP LaserJet 2100M - Can I Use w/New MacBook

I have a LaserJet 2100M postscript printer...it has a Mac Serial Printer port (I previously used it as local talk connection to my G3 PowerBook) and a Parallel Port. There is no USB port on the printer.
Can anyone give me an idea if I could use this printer with my brand new MacBook and how I need to set it up...for example, could I buy a parallel to USB printer cable? Or better yet, a Mac Serial to USB cable or switch. There are still current drivers for the printer so I would be all set once I could figure out how to actually connect it to the MacBook. If the cable switch route would work, will it still be able to print postscript...that is key.
I've looked into getting a JetDirect card for the printer, however because they are discontinued from HP, the only ones I can find are between $300 and $500. If I'm going to spend that much, I most likely would just buy a new printer. I don't trust the couple I've seen on ebay as they don't actually have HP marked on them.
I need some serious help with this. Thx! Kim

Get a USB-parallel adapter cable $10-30. Also install the alternate USB driver "usbtb:"
    http://www.buymelunch.org/printing/usbtb/
    Yes it will print postscript.

  • HP LaserJet 2100M was working - but not now

I'm working with a customer with a B/W G3 that was running Mac OS 8.6 connected to a LaserJet 2100M with the HP DirectCard J4135A, which has a USB port. This worked fine. The person took their system to a local Mac shop, where they added a bunch of RAM, upgraded to 9.2.2 and 10.4.9 and then returned system to the customer, where they have had no end of grief due to SCSI scanner that is critical to their work, etc. etc. They looked me up and I've resolved most of their issues, but am having a heck of a time with the printer. When started up in Mac OS 10.4.9, we have no problem printing. When started up in Mac OS 9.2.2 (not Classic) I am unable to create a Desktop Printer. I use the Apple Desktop Printer Utility (vs. 1.31), choose the printer via Apple USB, then choose the correct PPD, then click on create and it acts like it's doing it and the open window takes on the name I give it, but no icon shows up on the desktop and if we try to quite the utility, we still are unable to print to the LaserJet. I've used the same utility to delete any it thinks have been created, I've trashed any printer related prefs I could find in the System Folder/Preferences/etc. but no dice. I've done this a bunch of times with other systems, typically without issue. Originally the printer was connected through a hub, but is now connected directly to a USB port on the G3. And like I say, if we start up in Mac Os 10.4.9, it prints just fine.
    Stumped!

The issue turned out to be in incomplete install of Mac Os 9.2.2 by a local "Apple Authorized" service provider. I think they installed a Classic support only version of Mac OS 9 and this customer needed a full version of 9 for SCSI support, etc. Once a real OS 9 was installed and updated to 9.2.2, I had no problem with the printer, or the Desktop Printer Utility required to create the desktop printer.

  • Mac OSx 10.8.5 and HP laser jet 2100M printer w/ driver version 19.8--Doesn't print!

I've got a macbook pro with Mac OSx 10.8.5. I've successfully printed with my HP Laser jet 2100M printer until recently. The driver version is 19.8. I don't know what changed but about a month ago the printer says "printing--connected to printer" but it never prints. What do I need to do to get my printer and my macbook to communicate again and start printing? I also have a mac mini desktop running on mac osx 10.7.5 and it doesn't talk to the HP Laser jet 2100M either (also driver 19.8.Please, can you tell me how configure so these macs will be able to print to my printer?

I have had a similar issue with my HP LaserJet 1320 printer on OS X 10.8. On certain PDF files (only those that I have tested so far), the data will send fine from the computer (and the job goes away) but the printer balks and drops the print job on its end. It's only when I save it as an image in Preview and then print will it work (advice from this forum post). However, when I updated the driver from 19.8 to 19.13 (in the Apple Software Update), it seemed to fix it.  Do you know what changed between 19.8 to 19.13?

siu-85's post in that thread gives comprehensive instructions on how to add the printer, if your printer includes an Ethernet card (EIO adapter).
If not, your alternatives are apparently to connect via a USB cable, to purchase an EIO adapter, or to find a new printer.

  • HP LASERJET CP1525nw print error when printing online Gmail emails with Google Chrome

HP LASERJET CP1525nw print error when printing online Gmail emails with Google Chrome. Extra large font sizes and weird formatting issues only when printing emails from Gmail within Chrome. No problems when printing the same email from Gmail+Internet Exolorer or Thunderbird. Using the IE Tab extension in Chrome prints the email correctly but the style of Gmail's message window is completely weird ie: formatting bar is spread out vertically instead of horizontally. I believe it is clear that this is an application specific issue between the HP LASERJET CP1525nw printer and Google Chrome + Gmail. This printing scenario does not occur when printing anything else or when printing via another printer. I would appreciate receiving any suggestions to solve this issue.

  • HP LaserJet 4300 prints gibberish for one user, but prints OK for all others on a Windows 7 32-bit

HP LaserJet 4300 printer installed via LPT1 using Universal Print Driver v5.2.6.9321 on an HP 8100 desktop running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 32-bit.
For one particular user, this printer prints gibberish no matter what type of document she attempts to print.
Not sure when the problem began, the user uses a network printer to work around this issue. She can print to any of the other HP printers on our network OK, including another 4300 down the hall.
Anyone else can log on and print the same documents OK on this desktop using this printer.
Have tried rebooting the HP 8100 and power cycled off/on the 4300. Also uninstalled and re-installed the 4300.
I have updated the firmware on this 4300.
Changing the print processor in the printer properties did not help either.
Virus and malware scans have not detected any issues.
Any advice for this issue would be greatly appreciated.

  • How can I determine how many pages my Laserjet 1020 printer has printed in its lifetime?

I am trying to be proactive in determining whether I need to plan to replace my Laserjet 1020 printer.  I know that I have seen printouts from resellers/refurbishers which show the number of pages that a printer has printed in its lifetime.  I am just trying to figure out how to get this information from my printer so that I can see how much life it has left.  Can anyone tell me how to generate this report?
