My last hope before restore

hello,
i own a 4th Gen 20GB ipod that has been acting up lately. i've owned the ipod over a year now. about 3 weeks ago i had a problem with it "freezing" up and after reading the forums promptly hit the thing untill it worked again. i knew that might not be the end of it but i had no way of backing up all my files as i have no room on any hard drive to put my music but my ipod. now it's acting up again and don't want to have to restore it if possible.
what happened: my wireless internet card froze up the computer due to it not being able to get a signal. for some reason when it sits for a long time searching for an ip address i sometimes end up w/ a frozen computer and the blue screen of death when i unplug the card. but that is another issue entirely. at any rate i had itunes and my ipod plugged in when the computer froze. after restarting my ipod was now being recognized by windows but not itunes. additionally the ipod shows no music when trying to access it through the ipod. however, in settings it is still showing that the files are there and in windows i can sill access my songs through the ipod_control folder. since i can still access the songs i could spend 10 hours backing them all up through cd but i'd rather not have to.
what i've tried: i tried the 5R's, except restore. i tried pretty much everything in the post http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=418926&tstart=15
i tried using the latest updater and of course it will recognize it and let me restore it if i want but not update it. honestly, i've tried just about everything. i even tried a diagnostic test of the hard drive and it passed. (which was almost surprising) right now i'm just looking for any more suggestions out there. i'm tired of spending time searching other posts.
thanks in advance,
adam
p.s. sorry if this post is long. it's the middle of the night and my ipod is making me delirious.

Dude, I´ve got almost the same problem. My ipod (which is the same as yours) has been stalling very frequently so I though of restoring it. It was partially good, for the stallings started again lately. But the problem now is that after my last restoration, my ipod shows up in windows but not in itunes. As you, i´ve tryed everything. Do you know anything related to this?

  • This is my last hope before I go and return my Ipod Video! iTunes problem!

    Well i've been trying for two days to get iTunes to download on my computer (Windows XP) and everytime i try it goes for a while and then a message shows up saying...
    "Could not open key:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE/Software/Classes/.cdda/Open
    WithProgIds. Verify that you have sufficent access to
    that key, or contact your support personnel."
    ...and I have absolutely no clue what it means. If anyone can help I sure would appreiciate it!

    I haven't ever had a problem with the I-Pod itself. It's the I-Tunes that *****. I don't think you'll get it working tomorrow and I don't think it's because there's too many people using it due to the Christmas rush. I really don't think you'll get it working tomorrow. If you do, let us know. I've been waiting 3 weeks and have spent close to 15 hours of my time trying to get I-Tunes to work.
    I'll hold out hope though and hope that you can get your's working though. Good luck!

    How can I restore from last backup before IOS upgrade?

    You need to go into Settings > General > Reset > Erase all Content and Settings.
    Once done you will be back as though it is a new iPhone and you can setup from the iCloud backup.

  • HT1212 Any last hope for disabled phone

    I disabled my phone after too many attempts.  I can't explain why, but after the oS upgrade when the screen looked different I couldn't remember my passcode that I enter a million times a day.  I tried too  many times and disabled. Now after some time passed it came back to me and I am pretty sure I know it now. Is there any hope for one last try?  Last night after an hour it would give me another try.  But now it has been "disabled" for too long and I fear I lost my last chance.
    Meanwhile, I had it set to back up to the icloud but when I sign into icloud, all I see is contacts. No photos or videos which I am very upset about losing.
    I am hoping for any last ditch efforts before restoring and losing things. Not sure how long I should wait to see if it gives me one more chance.  It is tempting to make one of those "emergency calls" since it's the only thing it will let you do.

    recovery mode
    open itunes on computer
    plug cable into computer not iOS device
    turn device off
    hold home button and plug cable into IOS device.  do not release home button until an itunes graphic appears on IOS device.
    look to computer should have message about recovery mode click ok and restore

  • ONE LAST HURRAH: Before saying Goodbye to my Beloved MSI Eclipse!!!

    I already posted this  article  in the motherboard thread but seems like this is the best place to post this
    ONE LAST HURRAH: Before saying Goodbye to my Beloved MSI Eclipse!!!
    Well it has been two months since I purchased this MSI Eclipse SLI board and while waiting for its bigger brother MSI Eclipse Plus, I would like to try out a new board from another manufacturer. Before I pass this board to its new owner, I decided to give it a little review to so that other people who will be upgrading to i7 platform will have some idea how good or how bad this board is.
    A few months ago and maybe until now, Eclipse is the flagship board of MSI in terms of i7 based motherboard. Its bigger brother MSI Eclipse Plus has already been sighted in some forums but no definite date yet on when it will be available in the market.
    The Box
    The size of the box was way bigger than my old P45 motherboards. It is actually almost 2x the size of the conventional ATX board box.
    Upon opening the panel on the box, you will see a lot of information about the board! You will also see the added stuff from MSI like the Green Power Genie as well as the awesome Creative Xfi! Yes, a creative Xfi Extreme Audio PCIe sound card was included on the package.
    Upon opening the box, you will see a plastic container (I am assuming that this is anti-static) that contains the motherboard, DLED2, Green Power Genie and creative X-fi.
    There’s another box that contains a lot of stuff! MSI is as usual generous in giving their customers all the things the need to fully populate the board. This includes the  cables needed to populate all the sata and ide slots,  cross fire and SLI cable, additional USB bracket, ESATA bracket and the M connectors. All the manuals needed to setup the boards are also included.
    The Board and Layout:
    The board for me is pretty sexy!  It comes with a black PCB. The RAM slots and the other expansion slots are only blue and black in color which is a perfect combination for an intel based platform. The IOH and the ICH10R is actually covered by a copper heatsink with heatpipes connecting them. Well, personally I do not like this design since I do know that x58 generates a lot of heat. The VRMs also come with a copper heatsink but no heatpipe . As far as I understand from the box information, this is MSI’s split thermal design as well as protection from warping.
    MSI also provided 6 RAM slots and they come in blue and black sockets. Do yourself a favor by putting the ram in the black slots. I previously ran into problems of the system hanging in “ DDR ini “ and later found out from reading the manual and searching the web that the black slots should be populated first.
    The board came with 10 sata ports! 6 of them in 90 degrees are connected to the ICH10 and the 4 are actually by the jmicron chips attached to the board and also function as
    HW raid. Connect 2 HDD on sata 7 and 8 or sata 9 and 10, do some stuff in the BIOS and you are all set to run the system in raid 1 (mirror) or 0 (stripe). I have had no chance to test the raid 0 + 1 since I don’t have 4 identical drives.  It also comes with an IDE slot for your old parallel IDE HDD and/or ODD.
    The expansion slots come with 3 pci x16 slots, 2 pci and 2 pcie x1 which I believe is more than enough to suffice your daily needs. The bottom part of the board came with a power, reset and dled switch along with MSI’s OC jumper.
    The back panel is not that good looking. Well it’s the same back panel style of their P45 series board. It doesn’t matter anyway since it is at the back of the chassis and what concerns me the most is functionality. The board came with 8 usb ports at the back, 2  Gigabit lan, 2 esata ports, a 1394 connector, a cmos reset switch and the conventional PS/2 ports for mouse and keyboard.
    Bios and overclocking
    I  just captured the most important portion on the bios which is the Cell Menu. It is the overclocking tab on MSI’s BIOS
    Overclocking and Benchmarking Results
    Since I have not installed anything yet on my new board, I decided just to compare the stock and overclock result from this board.
    Below are the lists of components that I will be using
    Intel Core i7 920 2.66ghz  ( cooled by Thermalright HR 01 plus )
    MSI Eclipse SLI – Beta BIOS 1.45
    MSI 8800gtx (well a bit old but still reliable)
    Team Extreme ddr3 1600 @ 8-8-8-25 rated 1.65V
    Western digital Raptor 74gb 16MB cache
    I tried setting up this board one last time on my  DIY open system  using the components above. And Good thing that my ever energetic and reliable  assistant is always there to help … hahahaha
    SPI Stock and 4Ghz OC  Results
    Stock =  15.313s
    4Ghz = 10.405s
    PC Mark 05 Stock and 4 Ghz OC Result
    Stock = 9745
    4Ghz = 13136
    3DMark 05 Stock and  4Ghz OC results
    Stock = 13388
    4Ghz = 14289
    3DMark vantage Stock and 4Ghz OC Results
    Stock = 8160 ( 33530 on CPU score )
    4Ghz = 8315 ( 43567 CPU score )
    Aquamark Stock and Overclock
    Stock = 131812 ( 18685 CPU score )
    4Ghz =  179261 ( 23139 CPU score )
    I tried playing with bclock  since I have seen people in several forum saying that their boards( not specific to MSi eclipse ) / i7 proc cannot go above 200 or maybe just above 200 bclock. After doing some tweak I was able to get 215 bclock and the max I was able to get is 218,  All the test that had been done are just after vista installation. No tweaks done  on windows.
    SPI = 10.343 ( 19 x 215 )
    SPI = 10.030s (  19 x 218 )
    Wrap-up / Conclusion
    I really don’t want to let this board go but I don’t have extra budget to buy and try new boards from other manufacturer so that I can compare the result. So right now I am stuck with selling this just to buy another x58 board (of which I will try to post a mini review soon)
    I did encounter IOH temperature issue when I first bought this motherboard. IOH temperature is at 65C and this still goes up while running benchmarking tests. I made minor modifications on the board and as far as I know, it did not void the warranty. Below are the modifications that I have made:
    1.   Removed the violet thermal paste that MSI used and replaced it with Artic Silver 5.
    2.   Removed the plastic pushpin and replaced it with a bolt and plastic nut.
    3.   Added a 40mmfan that is just enough to take out the heat from the IOH
    Guess what, the temperature after these is just below 55C even under benchmarking (done during night time and I would expect that this will go to probably 60 degrees during daytime given the tropical climate in the Philippines).
    I was able to overclock my i920 at 3.6ghz without even adjusting anything on the voltages. Meaning they are at stock settings!  I managed to reach 4.0 ghz by simply adding 0.040v (around 1.29 Vcore only)
    Pros
    -   Easy to overclock board
    -   Supports both SLI and crossfire
    -   No issue on bigger after market cooling
    -   90 degrees placement of ICH10’s sata port
    -   Server grade VRM’s and Capacitors used
    -   Creative Xfi included
    Cons
    -   Only one SLI bridge included. It would have been better if a tri SLI connector was given by MSi.
    -   IOH temp an issue for my board.  Need to monitor and maybe try my modifications.
    -   Power/Reset/DLED Switches location will not be accessible if a 3rd video card is installed.
    Other thoughts
    -   It would have been better if the BIOS of the eclipse comes with nominal values on the Cell Menu. This is to serve as guide for the users if they are trying to alter the voltages.
    -   Maybe swap the ide and the sata 7 to 10 ports?  It is better looking if all 10 sata ports are on 90 degrees. It will also ensure that even if you use 2 or 3 video cards, it will not hit any of the sata 7-10 cables if you use them.

    I can see you got your use out of it.   I hope the new owner tortures it, too!

  • I dropped my phone in water.  Now iTunes says it needs to be restored.  How do I get my original pictures off of the phone before restoring the phone and losing all of my information?

    I dropped my iPhone 3G in water and it immediatley turned off.  One day later, it turns on again but it tells me to connect to iTunes.  iTunes says that I need to restore my iPhone to the factory settings in order for it to work again.
    I want to get all of the pictures off of my phone (if it's not too late), but I'm not sure how to do it.  The only option iTunes gives me is to restore the phone.  My computer doesn't even detect the phone as being connected to my computer so I cannot view the pics that way.
    Can anybody help me figure out how to get the pictures off of my phone before restoring it?
    Thanks in advance.

    Also you could try this:
    Following are Steps to Transfer Photos from iPhone to MAC:
    1). Attach your iPhone to Mac
    2). Open up Preview
    3). Click File menu and from there select “Import from iPhone…”
    4). Select the photos you would like to transfer and click import, Select “Import All” in case you want to have all the photos in computer.
    5). For confirmation sake go to ~/Pictures/ folder, picture copied from iPhone should be there.
    If you have a windows PC then follow below given procedure to Transfer Photos from iPhone to PC.
    You can accomplish this just using Windows Explorer, but there are two different methods. And here you go with the first one.
    1). Plug your iPhone into your computer without iTunes running.
    2). Now pop-up will appear asking what you would like to do with iPhone.
    3). Click on “View Content”
    4). Locate your photos.
    5). Copy the same and paste it at desired location on your computer.
    Another method for Mac users is "Image Capture" which is already installed on your mac, I will look for other applications for mac users, hope this helps!

  • HT1766 I started a iCloud backup of my iPhone last night before I went to bed and when I woke up it said 15 hours remaining and stayed that way for over an hour and has not changed

    I started a icloud backup of my iphone last night before I went to bed as I was told at the apple store yesterday that it could take up to 3 hours to backup.  When I woke up this morning it was still going and said 15 hours remaining.  After an additional hour or so the screen still read 15 hours remaining.  I need to understand how I am suppose to backup the device to icloud without having to take this long as I cannot be without my phone for an entire day or longer due to work requirements.

    If you're in recovery mode, all data is ALREADY lost.  You've no choice but to restore.

  • Didnt sync my new iphone before restoring old iphone backup?

    Okay so i just bought a new iphone5s two weeks ago and i exchanged it for a new one yesterday,i took pictures with it and then when i got home i restored my backup from my old iphone5s and i cant find the pictures i took before restoring my iphone???? is there anyway i could get them back? its really important
    thanks

    If you restored the phone to the old backup then of course it will look like the old one. Backups are listed in iTunes under devices. If you backed up today, then it would show that, but each time you sync the phone it creates a new backup and will overwrite the last one. If you restore to the backup you made prior to the old 5s, then you will lose all of that data.

  • I cannot restore my backup from icloud to my new phone because my backup requires ios 8.2. How do I update my new phone to ios 8.2 before restoring my backup ?

  • I did not backup before restoring. Can I get my data back?

    I did not backed up before restoring on my iPhone 4s. Can I get all of my data back? If yes, how?

    If you did not back it up, then where do you think you would get the data back from?
    Everything on your iphone should be on your computer.  You should be syncing/importing regularly.
    If you failed to do this, then it is gone.

  • Any way to get photos/data off 3gs before restoring?  I have no backup so procedure I believe will override/delete all photos I think.  Help - promise to back up in future.

    How do I save photos before restoring Iphone 3gs?  Phone crashed, wants me to restore via i tunes.  I have no
    backup so believe restore process will delete all my photos.  Any way out.  I promise to back up in future.  Hlep..

    Thanks.  Someone advised there are services that can retrieve the data AS LONG AS I DON'T RESTORE.  The photos etc. remain/exist, but as you indicate will be lost if restore takes place.  Thanks, though.

  • Help restoring Iphone because it was locked (Find my Iphone needs to be turned off before restore) but I took it off my icloud account. Now what?

    So my little brother locked my Iphone 5 out, so it said to connect it to my Itunes.
    So now I connect it to Itunes, however now when I click on restore (That's my only option) it says that "Find my Iphone must be turned off before restore". So I went to icloud.com and removed it from my account, then restarted phone and now when I click restore, I still get the same error, "Find my Iphone must be turned off before restore".
    and when I tried to update phone, it says the phone could not be updated (error 56).
    So I've tried everything possible, can someone please help me out?

    You need to restore from Recovery mode. If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

  • Zen:M Battery death!!!!!a last hope!

I also tried with the USB connector, but it doesn't work! (now not even the blue light)!?
    I've?been thinking that the problem is the battery(short circuit). I saw in Internet(amazon.com) a replacement battery for creative Zen vision M. Could I change the battery of my 60 giga model with this replacement?Is this battery compatible?with any Vision:M model or is just for 30 giga model? Haha, thanks... I hope it charges. I nearly died in the six monthes I didn't have an mp3 player (My ZEN Micro...) But now with my new one (Thanks Santa!) I have been resecitated! Seriously hope all goes well with your player. Like I said, plus and minues with the internal harddri've. As with any piece of technology. There will always be a risk, but I will stick to Creative over iPod any day. I am a walking billboard for creative when it comes to mp3 players cause for the most part they have worked fine for me.

  • Why is the green screen visible on the last frame before the next clip?

    Hey guys!
    Maybe I'm ******** but i m having trouble here. I have "key-ed" a bunch of clips and successfully removed the green screen from them. But when placed in the timeline, the green screen of the clip reappears for the single frame before a next clip starts.
    I've re-rendered and chopped ends off but the green screen keeps appearing in the last frame of any keyed clip that is about to cut to a different clip.
    Where am i going wrong?

    Hey! I tried both suggestions but even the self contained quicktime file has the green screen frames popping up.
    I just dont get it, it's infuriating!
    I used "chroma keyer" effect on the clip, only enable "key on saturation", the green screen disappears, I place clip on V2 and image on V1. Image is then visible where the green screen was. All is well until the last frame before a next clip because on that ast frame the green screen appears again. Where am I going wrong? Please help!

  • Hope of restoring photos even if Library6.iPhoto file is lost/deleted?

    All of my 283 events still visible in iPhoto, neatly named and organized, and I can open them, but I can't open any of the photos or videos inside. When I click on a video thumbnail, nothing happens; when I click on a photo thumbnail, I get a large exclamation mark instead of a photo.
    Following some advice on older iPhoto threads, I've tried rebuilding my iPhoto Library by holding down option/alt as I launched iPhoto and checking all the options to rebuild. But doing that seems to have only made things worse, because the thumbnails that used to appear as tiny thumbs of my photos and videos (useless as they were) now are blank/empty squares bordered by dotted lines, though still labeled with their proper filenames.
    I've been reading thread after thread about lost iPhoto Libraries, and part of the restoration always has something to do with the files AlbumData.xml and Library6.iPhoto. (What exactly are these files for, anyway?)
    I have AlbumData.xml in the package contents of my 'iPhoto Library' (for which I am now prompted to look for an application with which to open it), but I can't find the Library6.iPhoto file anywhere. I think it was lost in some moving I did between my external hard drive and my Mac yesterday.
    Supposing it was permanently deleted, is all hope of restoring my photos and videos lost?
    (Also, I've just checked the space available on my Mac and it's gone from less than 1 GB to about 96 GB. Cause to panic? ... That's 7689 photos and videos that I kept in iPhoto and never thought to backup. Stupid.)

    If you're using iPhoto 09 then there may well be no Library6.iPhoto file. That refers to earlier versions.
    I'm afraid this does not look good:
    I've just checked the space available on my Mac and it's gone from less than 1 GB to about 96 GB.
    That space came back because something got deleted. Mind you I wouldn't expect that 7700 photos and videos would take up that much space. So, I think you've lost more.
    And a likely cause:
    the space available on my Mac and it's gone from less than 1 GB
    Did you get warnings about the available disk space?
    OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on. Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
    AS you have no back up, then I'm afraid you're into a Data Recovery scenario. You're going to need an external hard disk, an app like File Salvage and a lot of patience and luck.
    Regards
    TD
