  • My Macbook Pro won't get past white screen....

My Macbook Pro is stuck on the white screen with the gray apple logo and loading gear spinning below---for hours now. Restarted multiple time without any change. Agh!

Boot in safe mode. First, disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if applicable, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal.
If you can boot in safe mode, try rebooting as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • MacBook pro is stuck on the start screen, MacBook pro is stuck on the start screen

Just completed a divx upgrade, restarted and the MacBook will not go past the white screen with the apple and the little wheel going around.

Hold the shift key while booting and uninstall the software you just installed using THEIR uninstaller to catch the at boot time kernel extension file, it's not compatible or requires a update.
If there is none, then see the first link here to uninstall it manually.

    3 - I tried reset ram , but its not working .
Any advice ? I am stuck and can't do anything :(
    Regards

It would be helpful to know which MBP you have and which OS you're running.
Read the following and try the advice listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570

Also, some things which cause a gray/white screen cause it to take much longer doing anything, so you may want to try some of your previous efforts and wait 5 minutes or so after each.

  • Late 2008 MacBook Pro won't boot; only gray screen with Apple, spinning gear, and then the mouse pointer.

Thanks to all in advance! Okay, last night I was trying to encrypt a Time Machine BackUp disk (Seagate 500GB Back Up Plus) and a dialog box popped up and said "POSIX could not..." And then whatever was next. So I unplugged the drive, plugged it back in, and the files still showed up, so I was like "oh okay so it's not screwed up." The next I try and boot my MacBook Pro, and of course it doesn't. The gray screen comes up, the logo shows up, the gear is spinnin, the it goes away and the mouse shows up. But that's where it stops. And sits. And sits. And sits. So I force it to shut down. I run through this many more times, as well as attempting the Recovery Mode, Safe Boot, and to no surprise, it doesn't work. So I go grab my trusty Snow Leopard disc, pop it in, ctrl-C on start up and it loads. So I select the option of restoring from a Time Machine backup and plug in the external drive only to not see it in the list. So I go to Disk Utility, and find out that the entire external drive has been erased and renamed disk8s2. So I go to my internal drive, but it shows how much has been used and it matches to how much as of last night. So I tried repairing the disk and restarting and of course it doesn't work. So now I don't know what to do. Really I'll take any suggestions besides buying anything (I'm only a 16 year old guy haha). So yeah. Thanks!

The encryption never actually followed through.
You started it, though. That makes the volume inaccessible to any OS X version before 10.7.

  • Why would my MacBook Pro be stuck on a Gray Screen?

Today when I went to start up my MacBook Pro the screen was completely black (it appeared to be lit but still a  lit black), then I called Apple support and they walked me through a few steps, which just made the screen white. Along with the white screen it displays the Apple logo, then a circle with a line through it (like a do not enter sign), then a gray file with a question mark in it. These 3 images just kind of scroll through on repeat.
I am not really looking for ways to fix it, I do have an appointment with the Genius Bar, however I was hoping to just understand a little behind why this would be happening... And if you had any ideas on what the cost I'm looking at for the fix. I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro that has been updated with the latest software. It was working perfectly fine yesterday, and I have never had any problems with it until this right now.
Please help and thank you so much!

  • MacBook Pro is stuck at start-up screen.

I've only had my MacBook Pro for a week, and the problem started last night. Whenever I start my computer to OS X, it stops at the screen with the Apple logo and the spinning load icon. I've tried to hold down "C" during startup to activate the Install Disc, but it didn't work.
The funny thing is that, with Bootcamp, I can hold down the option key and start the MBP up in Windows no problem.
Can anybody please help me with a solution?

    Run fsck.
    1. Reboot/Startup holding your Command-S key down.
    2. At the command line type the following and hit 'Return.'
    /sbin/fsck -fy
    3. After it has check/repaired your disk, type 'reboot' and hit 'Return' again.

  • Macbook pro is stuck on my home screen and will not respond to commands

    Hi,
I just upgraded to Lion this week and came home and opened my Macbook pro. It immediately came on, but took a minute or so for the cursor for the mouse to appear. At the top of the screen "Finder" is highlighted. Problem is, no matter what program I click on, the computer will not acknowledge anything. Help!

First try a Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least Ten seconds... (But can take Longer)... until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons
If no joy... Try a Restore...
1: Connect the device to Your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.

3: If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try using the Steps in this article to force the device into Recovery Mode.

  • Macbook pro gets stuck on the startup screen...

This question is a little odd as i am typing it off of my macbook pro right now, but my macbook fell of my bed and then it froze. I then resarted it and it just sat on the start up screen with an ideling circle under the apple logo along with a loading bar at first. I let it sit for about 25 minutes and then realized that it was going to work.  I then tried to restart it in safe mood and that didnt work and i dont have the disk so i cant boot from that but then i tried this...
Hold command S on start up and then type
    /sbin/mount -uw /
    and then
    chmod 775 /
    and then
    exit
After that it booted up and now i am using it as previously stated but my only probelm is turned it off to see if it would come back on no problem and it doesnt i had to go through the same commands over again to get it to work.  So any suggestions on how to get it back to normal?
    Thanks

  • My MacBook Pro is stuck on the loading screen and sounds as if its about the take off?!

Hi everyone. About 3 hours ago my laptop suddenly became very unresponsive and began freezing a lot. I cleared the cookies on Firefox, but the problem carried on so I tried rebooting. Now it has been stuck on the loading screen for about half an hour, sounding like a rocket ready to take off.. I brought it second hand and I don't have an installation CD, at least if I do it's not here at uni with me anyway.. Any ideas?! Thanks

Not knowing what your os is very difficult regarding offering troubleshooting solutions.  Most if not all the system discs are machine specific.
Replacement System Discs can be obtained from Apple's Customer Support - US (800) 767-2775 for a nominal fee. You'll need to have the model and serial number of your Mac available.
If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number - http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/intlstoreroutingpage.html

  • Why does my macbook pro gets stuck in the startup screen?? its the older versiom

its like stuck in the startup screen. i tried a few times and even took out the battery twice. please help!! i have some important document stored inside i cannot retrieve now!!!!
i think the operating system is like 10.7.something

You might have a failing hard drive. If you're running 10.7.x, try booting into your Recovery partition - holding down the Command and R keys whilst booting. Once at the installatio screen, use Disk Utility to verify and, if needed, repair your hard drive. If it can be repaired, you should be good to go - if it can't be repaired then you're going to need to go shopping for a new drive.
