My latest MacMini is unable to detect my Samsung monitor via HDMI direct connect.

Hi
My MacMini (current model ie 1 week old) is unable to detect my Samsung monitor (it is about 6 months old and comes with HDMI port) via HDMI.
However, it is possible if I were to use the HDMI/DVI converter that comes with the MacMini.
FYI, I have tried swapping the HDMI cable but the result is still the same. I prefer to connect the the monitor directly to the MacMini without going thru the HDMI/DVI converter and appreciate any assistance.
Thank you in advance

Hi all
Finally I managed to get my Mac Mini connected to the Samsung monitor via HDMI-HDMI.
Below is the cut and paste of the thread I just posted which explains all.
Thank you again everyone for the advice and support.

Re: No Signal on HDMI TV After Lion Upgrade  Sep 10, 2011 11:20 AM  (in response to
Mac80)
Hi Mac80     I have been struggling for the past couple weeks since I purchased my Mac Mini (a few weeks back) to connect to the Samsung B2430 LCD monitor directly via HDMI-HDMI but to no avail i.e. "no connection detected"     Fyi HDMI-DVI works, but I just wanted the HDMI-HDMI instead.     I did exactly what you advised i.e. pull out the HDMI cable from the Mac Mini; power up & power down the Mac Mini; reconnect the HDMI cable to the Mac Mini; power up again... Wooa...lla... for some strange reason & though somewhat "primitive":-)  ... It works. It can now detect my monitor at 1080p. I just shut down and switch it on again to make sure that it is not a fluke, it works!     Fyi I just acquired another Samsung LED 27" monitor SA550 (same problem as above inititially but got it working via the above approach)     Thanks alot Mac80 and really appreciate it!     jJpecke

  • Twist s230u 3347; unable to project to 2nd monitor via DisplayPort

After a series of visits to the Repair Depot for LCD light going dead, machine has been working as expected until this week.  I connected the device to a big screen monitor (plasma TV), mini-DisplayPort->HDMI connector and nothing.  Attempting to troubleshoot the issue, connected the same route to my 55" LCD TV at home, same result - nothing.  I downloaded latest Intel driver (Intel HD Graphics 4000 ver 10.18.10.3496), hoping that would solve the issue but same result, upon connection & attempting to force projection/extension/duplication (of screen), nothing.
For G&G's, I took back to the store where I purchased it, just to see if their adapter & display would have different results, NOT.
Anyone experienced this issue and know of a result?  or just have some thoughts to try?
    p.s.
I use the device regularly connected to two external monitors via a Thinkpad USB 3.0 Dock and everything works perfectly.  I have not tried, nor am I interested in doing so - I expect the DisplayPort to work (I successfully conducted a meeting in this manner) as it did prior to the four trips to the Repair Depot (January).

    Hello,
Unfortunately, I'm not sure of how to troubleshoot this further, since I cannot repro the problem myself.
In that case, the only suggestion I really can think of is to contact support again directly and let them know what is happening.  They may have some additional troubleshooting steps or recommendations for you to take with the ThinkPad S230u.

  • How to get new Macbook Pro Retina (late 2013) to detect external monitor via HDMI?

Hi everyone, this is my first Mac and for the most part it's been really, really wonderful.
This is my first major glitch:  I cannot get it to detect my external display:  It is an ASUS PA248Q, manufactured Aug 2012.
The HDMI cable according to my Amazon history is at least 1.3c from 2010,  "Fanatic Digital Imperial Series Gold-Plated HDMI Cable (6 feet)".
It works with perfectly connecting an AmazonTV box to an old Samsung TV, with vivid clarity, unlike our cableTV signal.
Just in case, I have a new HDMI cable on order, which claims to be of newest standards.
The Macbook Pro Retina (late 2013) has the standard Intel Iris from the Haswell chips, as well as Nvidia GT 750M, the latter which I don't think has been used yet.
The ASUS display says:  HDMI NO SIGNAL.
I have tried shutting them down and replugging the cable.  I don't know what the ideal order is.  The Macbook Pro is plugged into AC power, as suggested.
In System Preferences>Display, I press the Option key to select "Detect Displays" option (seriously unintuitive).
I have also tried resetting the NVRAM:
I shut the machine down.  Pressed the power button, then quickly held the quadruplet:  Option-Command-P-R  (a double handful) and waited for the machine to chime a 2nd time.  Tried to detect external display no luck.
    Next, I reset the SMC:
I shut the machine down.  Then I pressed Shift-Control-Option-Power   for about 5 to 10s.  Then I turned on the machine normally.
NVRAM & SMC steps were from an old youtube video, as the instructions I had did not explain how to do so clearly.
Please let me know if I"m doing something wrong.
Seems so exorbitant to pay $350 for Apple Care;  that's a the cost for a whole new cheap laptop.
I will search the forums again.  If anyone answers this,  thank so much!

    Hello there, willr314.
It sounds like you've covered most of the practical steps found in this Knowledge Base article:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1573#1
No video or no signal, image distortion, "snow," or flickering
    Check connections
When using an external display be sure to check the following:
If you're using an Apple notebook, confirm the AC power cable or adapter is securely connected to the computer and the cable providing power to the display is also secure. It is always good to have your notebook connected to AC power when an external display is in use.
Confirm display adapters are fully seated in their respective connections and that they are supported models and for the computer and display. Refer to these articles to assist you with adapter compatibility and further configuration information:
    Monitor and Display Adapter Table
About Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters
Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Thunderbolt ports and displays: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Remove all display cable extenders, KVM switches, or other like devices and retest to determine if the issue is resolved.
Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.Reset the resolutionStart by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.
The article does offer some additional links and recommendations as well:
These articles may offer additional assistance and information about displays and video adapters:
Apple Portables: How to use your computer in closed lid mode with an external display
Apple Cinema Display (30-inch DVI) has 1280 x 800 as the maximum available resolution
Mac Pro (Early 2009), Mac Pro (Mid 2010): Supported display configurations
For assistance with Retina displays, please see Frequently asked questions about using a Retina display.
If you tried all of these steps for your display and the video issues persist, contact Apple technical support or take your Apple computer to the nearest Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for diagnosis. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail Store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).
Note: Diagnostic fees may apply for issues not covered under warranty or the AppleCare Protection Plan (APP).

  • MacBook Pro 10.8.2 stopped detecting external Samsung monitor

    Hello,
My MacBook Pro stopped recognizing my extenal monitor that I use as an extended desktop. I plugged the same monitor into my old machine and it worked fine so I know it's not the monitor. I reset the PRAM and ran disk utilities to repair disk permissions and that didn't help. I have tried every combination of plugging and unplugging the devices I can think of. I am pretty sure the cause if this is a system software update and not the hardware.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you!

Crap, same thing here, I used to be able to connect my MBP Late 2008 to Philips hdtv with no problem using Snow Leopard, but as soon as I upgraded to Lion it wouldn't work. I was waiting for Mountain Lion to come out and upgraded hoping for the feature to work again but no success. Money spent on cables are being wasted. Any fix soon to sort it out?

  • My macbook pro will not detect any external monitors

My macbook pro will not detect any external monitors, worked 'once' when connect to a TV.
Have read a lot of web comments, most not very usefull.

    Hi a,
Check the setting in Sys Prefs > Displays.
Try a different adapter and/or cable.

  • Macbook Pro Retina (late 2013) & 10.10.1 cannot detect the external monitor is turned off

I connect my MBPr (late 2013) to a 24" Dell monitor via HDMI using a high quality audioquest hdmi cable.
When I turn off my Dell monitor, the MBPr did not detect the monitor is being turned off.
Let's say I opened a chrome browser and I move it to the external monitor.   If I turn off my Dell monitor now, the chrome browser will not automatically move back to the MBPr screen.
I have the same scenario if I just power on my MBPr now and not power on the Dell monitor.   I will do this if I need to do some small stuff (like typing this post) int he middle of night and I don't want to turn on my Dell monitor.
I am not sure if this is a problem or this is a normal behaviour of the MBPr.  I was like this when I was on Mavericks.
PS. If I connect my Lenovo laptop to the same monitor and I turn off my monitor, the opened applications will go back to the Lenovo screen.

The hardware supports DP1.2 and MST but unfortunately at present OS X Mavericks does not.

  • MacMini (2011) problem with Thunderbolt display if 2nd monitor is connected via HDMI/DVI adapter

    Hi,
    iam running a MacMini (2011) 2.3GHz i5 with Mac OS X 10.7.4 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 256 GB Samsung SSD.
If i connect a Thunderbolt display only - all is fine.
But if i connect a 2nd monitor ( Samsung S23A700) via HDMI / DVI adapter (original Apple) the major screen (Thunderbolt Display) sometimes
is going black and immidiately back to normal. It looks like that it happens very often if i scroll down with the Apple Magic Mouse.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance
    Thomas

I have exactly the same problem. MacMini Server i7 (mid 2011) Macmini5.3.16Gb ram.
    Mini and Thunderbolt no blink-outs.
Mini and Thunderbolt and Dell 23" connected to HDMI-DVI connector, the Thunderbolt display blinks out when system is under stress as in the Develop module of Lightroom 4.
I thought it was a problem with my Thunderbolt display, and since its on a VESA mount, I didn't really want to haul in in to the Apple Store.  I decided to be sure it was the dosplay...
I borrowed a MacbookPro i7 and ran it from a clone of my Mini. No problems aster hours of use. (But with only ONE monitor.)  That suggested that there was no problem with the Thunderbolt Display.
I decided to run the Mini with only one display.  Again no problems. I plugged in the Second monitor to the HDMI port and within 2 minutes I had my first "Blink-Out".
I ran the rest of the day without the second monitor with no problems.
I conclude the mini will not work reliably with two monitors if one is a Thunderbolt.
I was using two Dell Monitors before I got the Thunderbolt Diskplay (for 3 months) without incident.

  • ERROR: Unable to detect fingerprint device

Pavilion dm4 laptop worked fine yesterday. Booted up this morning and the option to sign in with a finger swipe was missing.
PC has ""HP SimplePass Identity Protection" with a "Validity Sensors, Inc" fingerprint scanning device.
Clicking SimplePass icon and then clicking Control Center gives error message: "Unable to detect fingerprint device".
Device Manager for Biometric Devices says that Validity Sensor is "working properly".
Trying to update device driver indicates that the latest driver is already installed.
Tried a "Hard Reset" to see if static electricity buildup was the culprit, but nothing seemed to change.
Ran "Troubleshooter" to detect new hardware or changed hardware, but nothing was detected.
Made sure BIOS was set to Default Configuration.
No programs were installed yesterday, no updates from Windows or HP.
Stumped as what to try next. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Marty

    Hi Bryan,
Thanks for the suggestion, but I’ve already uninstalled and reinstalled the Validity Sensor drivers and the SimplePass software (in both Normal and Safe modes). SimplePass is still unable to detect the Validity Sensor.
I can open and run SimplePass and make a few changes to some general settings, and it seems to work fine. Also, Device Manager is still saying that Validity Sensor is “running properly”.
Had a detailed telephone conversation with Tech Support to make sure that I wasn’t overlooking anything.  We ran through a checklist, but the problem is still there. Tech Support and I think that the problem is a hardware failure of the sensor. Unfortunately, I was informed that I had to do a “lobotomy”, a full System Recovery, before they could authorize returning the PC. Right now the PC works absolutely fine except for the Validity Sensor, and I really can’t be without my PC for a week or longer. So … Tech Support has me scheduled for a callback in January.  Will do the recovery then.  99% sure that the recovery will not fix the problem, but now is definitely the wrong time of the year to be without my dm4t.
In fact, even thought the PC is only 4 months old and under warranty, I’d prefer it if HP could mail me a new sensor, and I’d install it myself, but don’t think HP would approve this option.

  • Zen 20gb - Setup is unable to detect a supported device

    Trying to install my Zen 20gb (bigger version of the micro!) onto my work-laptop;
Unfotunately I cannot find the original installation disk, but I have downloaded the latest software from the Creative website. When I try to install CMS_PCAPP_LB_3_30_2.exe, I get a message "Setup is unable to detect a supported device...". Immediately before this, the Zen shows Docked, but then reverts back to the Play screen.
I have searched this forum and tried as many different soultions as I can find, all to no avail. I have installed NomadSync and that connects without problem... but why won't the "official" software?

Yep... already tried that. I've even used the Software AutoUpdate that says I need the:
    Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2
Creative MediaSource Plugin for CD Burner 3.0.8
Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.20 for Creative MediaSource
... so that is detecting the Zen, but when I try to install Media Source Player/Organizer, it can't detect it!

I am configuring RV 215W router for 3G failover , so i am configuring mobile network but as my USB dongle (ZTE MF 190) is unable to detect in my RV215 W i am fail to do so.
Kindly help me to detect my dongle

    Hello,
It looks like the ZTE MF190 is on the supported list for several countries/providers, which means it should work.  However it does list specific ISPs, so it may not work if your ISP is not on that list.
The first thing to check is that you are on the latest firmware for the RV215W and your dongle.
If you do an upgrade to either go ahead and factory default the router and reconfigure it from scratch, do not load an load config file.
If you are still having issues with it after that go ahead and give us a call at the SBSC and we can get a case created and take a look.
