My layered menu shows up as white screen!

I'm working on a 5,9 GB DVD-9 project in DVDSP 4.0.2.
The DVD consists of 3 movies and 3 layered menus. The layered menus use a .psd file with up to 7 layers. Nothing fancy, a background and a couple of buttons. The tracks have a couple of stories and there are subtitles.
Here's the problem: In the simulator everything works flawlessly but as soon as i build a VIDEO_TS or burn a DVD, my layered menus show up as white screens.
This error happens when I preview the VIDEO_TS in DVD Player but also on a physical DVD+DL. Again, in DVDSP's simulator all looks very good.
I've tried all kinds of things: I created a new and very simple DVD-9 project with only one layered menu and a very short video track: no problems! I've played around with the break point on my 5,9 GB projekt but this doesn't make any difference.
So, does anyone have the same experience with layered menus showing up as white screens? Is this a bug in 4.0.2? I'm considering a complete rebuild of my project in DVDSP 3, unless there's something i've overlooked...

THANK YOU CHRIS!
You solved my problem. I did have one unused language defined, i thought i needed 2 languages but apparantly i don't, because my DVD now works fine.
It was very hard to trace the problem because the whole concept of languages and menus is still sort of unclear to me. I guess i need to do some studying on that. The DVDP manual sadly lacks a good tutorial on how to set up a multi-lingual DVD with multiple subtitle streams.
Now i've set up 2 menus for each version (the movie with and without subtitles), only one language and all is well.
One thing still puzzles me: The first version (the one with the unusued language) did play fine on a G4 with Panther. The white menus showed up on a G5 with Tiger and on my standalone DVD-players. So somehow Quicktime also plays a role in this. The fact that this is a DVD9 has nothing to do with it. Thanks again.

Of course the extended warranty is done... There is talk about booting from the system disc...  I'm not sure if this is the first thing to do or not... Can the support community, advise me on what logical steps I should take ( in order) or direct me to a website and/ or you tube video that walks one safely through the processes... Once again thank you for reading and offering your advice... I am on fixed $$$ so I'm trying to avoid calling apple, unless I have no options and/or the suggestions do not resolve the issues... First step would be a PRAM reset.

Post back if that does not work.
The next step would be to try "Repair Disk".

  • Showing hidden files white screen upon restart

I put in the command to show hidden files and restarted my iMac. It only shows a white screen. Completely blank. How do I fix it? It runs on Lion and has a Time Machine backup.

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a boot failure is to secure your data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since your last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
         a. Boot into the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    b. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    c. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to boot, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can boot now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
If you've booted from an external storage device, make sure that your internal boot volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
    Step 3
Boot in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you boot in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, your boot volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 5.
If you can boot and log in now, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the boot process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 4
Sometimes a boot failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 5
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select your startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then reboot as usual.
    Step 6
Reinstall the OS. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 7
Repeat step 6, but this time erase the boot volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer your data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 8
This step applies only to a pre-2013 Mac Pro tower, not to any other model. A dead logic-board battery can cause a gray screen at boot. Typically the boot failure will be preceded by loss of the startup disk and system clock settings. See the user manual for replacement instructions.
    Step 9
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.

  • Why does iMac show after boot white screen

Hi, the iMac is about a year old and showed suddenly a problem with the screen. It turned blue and it disapeared only by pulling out the power cord.
Today, the restart stops after the apple logo and ends in a white screen. Shutdown is posible by the power switch - holding three seconds.
It is not a problem of a harddrive, because i could see the recovery drive. However starting the recovery drive did show the same steps ending in a white screen.
What is the problem? I think it is a failure if the grafic card?

  • In DVDSP4, menus show up as white screens!

I've been happily using DVDSP for years now. I just upgraded to v4, and now, even if I use one of the template menus, once I build the project, the menus only show up as white in both the Apple DVD player AND the finished disc. In the DVDSP simulator everything's there, fine and dandy. But once it's down to TS folders, my menus are gone!
No, I'm not using layered menus. Just using the supplied templates. Same scenario I've been using without issue in DVDSP3.
    Anyone know what's going on?
    Powermac G4 dual 1G   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Sometimes making a disc image helps if the disc is buggy, did you remove all receipts etc and reinstall?
There was one other thing, which I though affect MacIntels more (I got burned and had to do everything over from scratch) but one of the security updates (last month or so) messed up some installers, particularly Photoshop on MacIntels, but I think there was something also that it even messed up some Apple installs (do not hold me to that one, I recall something about it when looking for an answer a couple of months back.) I t may have been rellated to security/Quicktime....you may want to do a quick search in the MacBook section for Photoshop install, not sure if it was over there I saw the issue that it also affected other Apps and earlier Macs.
But first make a disc image, if the disc is scratched it can cause a problem, had to do that with one of my Jam Packs (or you can try a different drive for the disk, I know the DVD Player in some of my older Macs are acting strange and have torublle reading disks that my other Macs or external drives can read.)
