My library freezes halfway through loading

I updated Itunes software to most current version 7.3.1 and now my library freezes halfway through loading. I've powered down and restarted and was able to backup library with the finder to an external hard drive (I think?). I've tried downloading the software again reloading it power down and back up and still the same issue. What should I do?

it is different for each player. for the zvm, slide power/hold button to the on position and gently press and hold the reset button for a few seconds, release reset button then release power slider and ther it is. try trouble shooting on the creative site, and there are also sticky posts on the forums on this issue ([url="http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=dap&message.id=3">here[/url])Message Edited by dazed on 02-22-200709:27 PM

I'm trying to put windows (preferably 8, but 7 is fine) on my mac to run a windows only flight simulator. I'd like to do this using bootcamp. Any clue why it freezes halfway through every time? Suggestions?

I personally never had problems with these downloads in Lion but it seems to be flaky for others.

  • ITunes freezes halfway through a sync

I had to restore my iPod last week. When I reconnected the iPod to sync with my library, it got about halfway through copying everything across, then froze. I've tried to get it to copy my library on to this iPod a few times now, and it freezes every time, but never at the same place.
When I force quit, or disconnect the iPod, although the process will apparently have got to about 1500 songs, only six or seven will actually be on the iPod.
I've reinstalled iTunes 7.0.2.; got my computer to rebuild my library from scratch; totally reinstalled OSX; restored the iPod several times; run all the hardware checks... but no solution.
    Any bright ideas?

Have you tried updating it and doing a restore with the latest iPod updater (2006-03-23)? You can go here and install the latest updater on your PC and then hook the iPod up and run the updater http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
Doing a restore will wipe everything off the iPod, but once connected to iTUnes, it will load everything back up. More on restoring can be found here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983

  • Library consolidation halfway through

    Hey out there
I just tried to consolidate my iTunes library, which started fine, but when i was nearly halfway through it stopped and showed the following error message:
"Copying files failed. The file name was invalid og too long".
I got MPEG files and AAC sound files, and both of them have been copied, so i don't think that's the problem.
Anyone experienced the same and got a solution?
The reason i wanted to consolidate, was to get option, to delete my music files directly from iTunes.

    kraller1992 wrote:
How do I open Consolidation fix?
I had a look and it should just be a matter of downloading the zip file from that site, extracting ConsolidationFix.js to any location of you choice, then double clicking the script to run it.
The script lists all files that have filenames in excess of 130 characters. I don't let iTunes manage my file & folder names but I'd be surprised if that in itself causes a problem. I can certainly consolidate such a file under both Windows XP and Windows 7 so that can't be an accurate method of determining which files won't consolidate.
There could be problems with permissions or if your target media folder is nested really deeply then path the file would move to, if consolidated, could exceed 255 chars which would cause problems. Since iTunes for Windows uses a maximum of 40 characters for file and folder names I'd expect to see occasional problems if the path to your media folder were in the order of 125 characters.
It might be the "invalid" reason has more to do with things, but again I'm not certain what iTunes would generate that would also be "invalid" since all the usual problem characters are translated to underscores.

  • Safari not opening properly - sticks halfway through loading

    Hi there,
My Safari window on my iMac keeps opening but then the pages won't load fully - for eg, the start page comes up with the apple homepage which starts highlighting blue as if it were opening but then sticks halfway through this process.
    Firefox is working fine though.
    Help!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • My Ipod Touch freezes halfway through backing up the Ipod.

So, I recently downloaded the latest software, 5.1.1. And it downloaded successfully and when it began to install on my ipod it froze about halfway through. I left it overnight and when I returned the next day there had been no progress.
I then restored the Ipod touch to factory settings and attempted to back it up.
This also froze, but about an eigth of the way through the progress bar (on the ipod) Itunes progress bar was completed.
Now I cannot access my ipod other than completely setting up a new ipod which I do not wish to do as I had vital information within the current ipod.

  • Why does my iMac shutdown halfway through loading on startup?

I get a chime then the Apple logo appears, then the progress bar gets to about halfway, then it shuts down.
    Specs
Late 2009 27" iMac Intel Core Duo 3.06ghz
128GB Samsung SSD installed in place of Optical Drive.
    Stock 1TB HD
12GB RAM, 2x4GB and 2x2GB. The 2x2GB sticks are the stock RAM.
    OSX Yosemite.
      Background Info
I haven't used the iMac in about a month as I have a Macbook Pro from work that I use primarily.
I turned on the iMac yesterday and the Startup was VERY SLOW, like 5 minutes.
I looked at some forums and saw that I should make my SSD my primary boot drive. I did this and restarted but the boot time was the same.
Next I shutdown the computer and restarted the SMC. This made the boot time a little bit faster, maybe 2 minutes but it still wasn't acceptable.
Next I reset the NVRAM 3x and this made a significant improvement. It was now at about 25 seconds.
When I finally logged in I opened up Photoshop and Firefox and they both just bounced on the task bar for about 2 minutes. Photoshop finally opened but Mozilla did not. I looked in the Activity Monitor and I kept getting CrashReports that were taking up 75% of the system.
I did some googling and it seemed like I needed to run First Aid on the SSD.
I went to Disk Utility and tried Verifying the Disk and it gave me an error saying that it could not be verified and that I would need to open it up in Recovery Mode.
I restarted the computer and held down CMD+R and nothing happened, it just stayed on the white screen. I held down the power button until it shutdown and the powered it back up holding option. It showed that I did not have a recovery partition (even though I remember having one in the past). It did show my Samsung Drive.
I clicked on the Samsung Partition and it loaded about halfway then shutdown.
I tried just starting the computer up normally without holding anything down and it would do the same thing.
I decided that I didn't have anything on the computer that I desperately needed so I was just going to reinstall Yosemite.
I downloaded Yosemite on my MBP and made a bootable USB drive for it. (This took about 4 hours).
I went back to my iMac and plugged the USB drive in, turned on the iMac, and held down option (expecting that it would give me the option to boot from the USB Yosemite Installer) and it chimed, the apple logo came on, the loading bar got to halfway, and it shutdown.
I tried this about 5 times and it did the same thing.
I tried resetting the NVRAM and it just shuts down.
I've tried Safe Mode, resetting the SMC, option, etc. Nothing works.
I left it unplugged over night and tried starting up this morning and I get the same thing.
Yesterday I took out the 2x4GB ram sticks and made sure the stock 2x2GB sticks were properly seated. I tried resetting the NVRAM and it still loads halfway and then shuts down.
I don't know what else to try. When I used it more often a couple of months ago it was very fast upon start up and running memory intensive programs like Reason, Autodesk Inventor, Parallels, Ableton Live, etc.
I am very comfortable taking the computer apart I just don't know what to look for.
    Thanks for the help,
    Kyle

  • Help - DVD freezes halfway through movie!

I've tried burning something that is 1hr and 32 minutes long... but both times I've burned it, it freezes sometime during the 47 minute mark. When I say it freezes, I mean when it's finished burning, and I try it in a DVD player, it starts freezing as if it were scratched. The DVD had no scratches both times...
    I've tried:
Making more space on my computer.
Closing all other programs and not touching the computer as it's burning.
Perhaps I need to make some chapters? As of right now, I've only burned the movie as one, bulk movie that you have to fast-forward through.
    Any ideas?

    Hi
    1. iDVD 8 has three levels of qualities.
    • Professional Quality (movies up to 120 min.) - BEST (iDVD08 only)
    • Best Performances (movies less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
    • High/Best Quality (movies up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
    2. From
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov
    (not selfcontained)
    (not with QT conversions)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to the movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 not meant to go to iDVD. Use iMovie HD 6 (need to b e publiched into the
    media manager.
    3. I use Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly eg x1 (in iDVD’08 this can also be set)
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc).
    5. Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW)
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
    8. iMovie 6 has a bug: if You emptie the trash in iMovie ken burns might stop to wirk and photos has to be re-imported and re-done.
Note from - elkriverken: With the help of others, I was able to narrow down the problem. However the final solution was to keep all the audio confined to only ONE track. When I added audio on the second tract overlapping the first tract audio, the noise or flutter began and continued past the ending of the audio from the second tract. Now there is no flutter. The video and audio now work perfectly. Thanks to all.

  • IPhone Backup Freezes Halfway Through with iTunes

When connecting my iPhone 4 to a USB 2.0 Port, and attempting to backup, the backup begins and somewhere between start and finish freezes.  The software and the phone still appear to be backing up but it never completes.  I can delete my backup and start from scratch and it will do the same thing.
I have all antivirus software disabled.  All drivers are up-to-date.  BIOS is most current version for my Dell Desktop.
Does the same thing if I create a new user and attempt to backup.
I have uninstalled all iTunes software per the required procedure and reinstalled, still the same result.
Has anyone experienced this and can shed some light on this for me?
    Thanks,

  • Ipod freezes halfway through audiobook

I'm about 18.5 hours into an audiobook (27 hours left in the file) and now my iPod freezes up every single time I get past a certain point (18:28:07). Every time, I have to reset the dang thing by holding down the Menu and the middle button until it reboots.
I feel like I've done everything I can to troubleshoot this:
The file plays fine from within iTunes on my computer, so I know it's not corrupted.
I've tried fast-forwarding several minutes past the second where the freeze occurs, but to no avail. It still freezes when I try to play it again.
I've done a hard disk repair via Windows on the iPod.
I've defragmented the iPod (also via Windows).
I've done a restore on the iPod and just finished resyncing it to my iTunes again.
It's still having the exact same problem. Does anyone have any further suggestions? I really want to listen to the rest of this audiobook!

    Hi Heykelley,
I've been doing some extensive research on this problem and rest assure you are not the only one experiencing it. From my research I have found that the longer the novel, the higher the chances of error occurring (the technical nitty gritty - if the number of audio samples exceeds approximately 650 to 700 million samples, then the stability problems occur. Longer audiobooks have have higher sample rates). With that said, we are all giving our ipod's migraines. There are solutions, though but it depends on the type of audiobook and iPod you have. I have Audible books which are .aa or .aax files (DRM protected, so I can't convert and chop them into smaller files myself), and an iPod mini 3rd gen. Hopefully these steps help you, good luck!
Audible - for iPods that can not run apps ie. shuffle, mini, nano etc.
    1. First and foremost write down the chapter you are on and your current listened hours.
    2. Log in to your Audible account, make sure the book you are reading is in your library (even if you do not have a subscription anymore Audible still saves your library)
    3. IF IT IS - plug your ipod into your computer and start Itunes. Delete the audiobook from your ipod, then from your itunes.
If the book is not in your Audible library - call Audible, raise **** ... not really, they are nice people ^_^.
    4. Now back to the Audible library, find your novel. Next to the photo icon of your novel you will see an arrow. Click on it. There you will see your novel chopped up into pretty "parts" for you. Download them all to your itunes.
    5. From your itunes drag your newly chopped novel into your iPod. Since the parts are separated by hours you will have to figure out which part contains the chapter you were on. Simple math ^_^.
Audible - for iPods that run apps) -
I am only guessing here but I believe the steps are similar just with a few modifications. Write down your chapter and listened  hours, make sure its in your Audible library, delete from device or itunes. Then in the Audible library click the drop down arrow next to your books icon and download in parts to your device or itunes. I MAY BE WRONG, if I am call Audible and they can help you out.  (888) 283-5051
    For Audiobooks .mp4 .mp3 .acc
My dear friends you will have to tap into your inner techie to resolve your issue. You will need to manually chop up your book into parts or contact the audiobook provider and see if they offer your novel in parts.
For quick snip snap jobs like this I would use QuickTime Pro. Open your file up and every 7-8 hours or so make a cut.
I hope this was helpful, I wish everyone luck as I found that there are many of us out there who are frustrated with no answers.

  • IPod freezes, after restore stops syncing halfway through

I have a 2-year old 20gb iPod that has worked fantastically for the last 2 years. About 2 weeks ago, its started freezing up at random times. I couldn't shut it off, skip songs, etc. I just had to wait 5 minutes or so for it to come back. I restored it on iTunes the other night, but during my reload of songs, it stopped halfway through. So, my iPod only has about 9gb on it. If I try to keep syncing it up, it eventually gives me an "unknown error occured" message and deletes everything on my iPod.
    I NEED HELP!

-Try resetting the iPod and try again.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next I would try restoring from backup
It is expected that when you connect an iPod that was synced to another computer/iTunes ibray, the iPod will be erased and its contents replaced with that in the iTunes library of the new computer. An iPod can only sync with one iTunes library.

    i'm just wondering:
    a) why it does this
and b) how to stop it doing this, because it still charges me for the song :/

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.
