My library wont transfer to my new nano

why won't my library sync to my new nano?

If you want the iPod to sync automatically, you may need to set up syncing for the iPod in iTunes.
If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is not visible, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  The iPod appears in the sidebar, under DEVICES, when connected.  Select the iPod there.  To the rignt, its Summary screen is shown.  Toward the top, there is a bar of buttons that starts with Summary.  Click on Music next to Summary.  This Music screen is where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box to Sync Music.  If your iTunes music library fits on the iPod, you can choose to sync Entire music library.  Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Then, make your selections from the lists below.  For example, if you want to sync one or more existing playlist in your iTunes library you can select them.  You can create new playlists with only the songs you want on the iPod, and select them.  You can select specific artists or albums...
When you click Apply, the songs in yoru selection(s) sync to the iPod.  Going forward, any changes to your iTunes library (related the settings on the iPod's Music screen in iTunes) sync to the iPod automatically.  For example, if you have playlists selected to sync to the iPod, you can update those playlists (add/remove songs) in your iTunes library.  The next time you connect the iPod (or when you click Sync if already connected), iTunes makes the same changes to the iPod automatically.

  • Hard Drive Crashed and Ended Up with older iphoto- Library wont transfer

I have been using my macbook for two years now and have used iphoto since I got it to start saving all my pictures (some 6 to 7 thousand pictures) though I never did check what version it was. I had made a back up of my iPhoto Library and good thing I did because my hard drive crashed.
I had kept all my photos organized by Events, rather than dates and such because I scanned photos in here and there as well. However, after I had my new operating system installed, I plugged in my external drive to transfer my iPhoto library into iPhoto (by clicking on the iphoto icon while holding option/shift to choose a library) but it came up with an arrow message saying that I needed a new version of iPhoto for it to work. Sure enough, when I just let iPhoto open up with a new library it would not in any way let me sort photos by events, just by year.
I tried reinstalling iPhoto with the original disks my macbook came with and even downloaded an update. This may not seem like a huge problem because thankfully i still have all my pictures but they are all over the place and organizing all of the pictures again would take a ton of time.
I do not get how I started with a newer version of iPhoto that let me organize my photos by events compared to the one I have now that came on my installation disk. I dont want to pay for a new copy of iPhoto if my macbook already came with it installed when I first bought it but I want my Library and its Events and albums to work (which it does because I tried it on a newer macbook) Any ideas? Thanks

Okay Sory about that. Here is the problem- i think- When I bought my laptop in May of 2007, the iPhoto that came preinstalled was a better version than the one that came on my Mac OS X install disk that I now have to use since my hard drive crashed.
In iPhoto 6, you can not sort photos by Events, only by date. In iPhoto 7.1 you can because when I tried opening my library on another computer with that version of iPhoto by holding down option/shift and choosing my library from my external drive, it worked since all my named events showed up.
I never bought an update for iLife, nor did I ever have my computer worked on. I only downloaded the free updatess for my specific version from the internet, what ever version it was.
I have always been able to sort my pictures by Events because when I bought my macbook, I immediately put pictures on it (my Library can prove that). I really do not want to buy the iLife 08' if I had already had the better version of iPhoto on my computer before it crashed.
I guess, is it possible that I did have iPhoto 7.something installed on my computer when I bought it (or at least an iPhoto that can sort pictures by events, since that is the main problem) and have an older version on the install disk it came with? That is the only conclusion I can reach.
    Thank you for your help.

  • ONLY video files not already in library wont transfer to itunes library

I've found NO help from the apple website dealing with this problem, video only importing problems don't even come up in the help sections.
heres an example, i just bought a new cd, i can easily transfer the files from the drive to my library, or from a folder on my computer to the itunes library.
BUT if i have recieved a new video file, in any format, i click - file, add file to library, (file name), open. then- absolutely nothing happens. If i have a folder of videos to transfer, i go to - file, add folder to library, (folder name), open. Sometimes a breif glimpse of the "processing filename" apears in a box on the screen, IF I'M LUCKY. But less than two seconds later, the box dissapears and itunes stops all attempts to put my new video files into its library.
I've tried to remedy this by the following-
    I've tried to 'repair' itunes
i've tried to uninstall and reinstall itunes
i've tried to convert the files into .mpv, the file all ready to go for putting it on an ipod
i've tried to restart, reboot, completely shut and unplug computer
i've installed avg a spyware detector and searched for viruses, just in case a virus is effecting itunes or the files i want to put in it-no go
i've tried deleting my library and putting in only the video files, just in case it was full... (i doubt it i had 10 gigs of memory in itunes it should hold more)
I've tried deleting my library, then moving the files in the correcct format to the itunes library folder that has the files backed up to trick it that it was already there before- that didn't work.
I've just gotten a 30g new ipod with video and have transfered over 50 video files to it, there were no problems before, but there are now- its very frusterating especially because I WANT TO WATCH MY TV SHOW ON MY IPOD IN MY ROOM UNDER SOFT FUZZY COVERS! ='S
Has anyone else had this problem? and if so... are there steps to fix it, and WHY does it do this? (for any reason other than hating me)

I myself have came across this problem. I have found that for some reason simply clicking on other parts of iTunes and then adding the video file it eventually adds (most times).
I have also found that when attempting to convert some files to mpeg-4, the same thing has also happened. I have put it down to a bad corrupt file that iTunes does not like.
It could be that the files we are trying to add and/or convert to iTunes are damaged files even if they can be played using other media players.

  • ITunes Library wont transfer

I recently had spyware on my computer and had to wipe my hard drive clean and start from new. I "thought" i could just put my whole iTunes library on my iPod and then transfer songs from iPod back to my library once i re-downloaded iTunes. This doesnt seem to be the case. The only songs that did transfer where the ones i purchased through the store. Help please...need my music back on my computer.
BTW, i have a 20GB iPod Video. Windows XP Home Edition, the latest iTunes, so forth.

You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes. The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of these here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

  • Only part of my library will transfer to my new computer

I bought a new computer and when i attempted to transfer my iTunes libary to the new computer, it said there were too many users on the account. I have purchased various ipods and iPads for my wife and children, but they all have a separate iTunes account--yet ALL of their past products have been linked to my account. I contacted tech support a few months agao and the nive young man said he didn't know how to help. For a while I just used my old computer but now that computers system can't support the upgrades in iTunes/ Anyone have any ideas how I can go about cleaning up the account and transfering the files?

diesel vdub, thanks for responding, but no--it didnt give me the usual 5 authorizations message. The message given also didn't offer any link to a solution. You may have missed the point where I mentioned that I had contacted tech support and even they were unable to help me. The issue is not about how many computers were/are authorized (there are currently only three). If it had, it wouldn't have only loaded some of my libary, including songs I purchased. These would not transfer (only files loaded from my personal cd collection would have transfered) if this were the case. I realize there are a lot of dumb questions posted here, and this may turn out to be one of them. But please, read the full question before throwing out an answer that is useless because it ignored the facts.

    From your OLD computer...
Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

You can download purchased items from I tunes. Other music like from ripped CD's will be gone unless you backed them up.

  • Transfer to/from new nano

As a new user, this might be a old question, buut if you don't ask etc.etc............
I have a 2gb Nano, which will hold approx 400 songs. I want to be able to load, for example 400 Rock songs if i'm on a long drive, or maybe 400 easy listening if i'm relaxing on holiday ( Ah........holidays)
Is it possible to have a folder on my Pc called "rock", one called "easy" and others for different music types or artists, all which would fill my Ipod.
Then I could upload whichever one I want before going out.
Problems is that I need too many tracks to have them all on the ipod at the same time.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Yes you can do that thru iTUnes and creating playlist, you would want a Smart playlist. A smart playlist "Auto updates" Itsself based on the rules you set for it. If you creat a playlist for rock, any new songs you add to iTUnes with the genre of rock will be automaticly added to the playlist
To create a smart playlist, goto file>New Smart Playlist. Here is where you can set the rules. For a rock only playlist you would select "genre" "is" or "Contains" "rock". Now if you pick "is" it will only list songs labled rock, not songs labled rock/alternitive or whatever, would have to be rock and no other words. now if you pick "Contains" this will list all songs witht he word "Rock" in its genre field be there other words or not. After creating the smartplaylist you can always edit the rules by rightclicking the list and hitting edit.
Now rightclick the nano in iTUnes, hit "iPod Options". this will open the ipod preferences. You will see 3 ways to update iPod, Manual auto update all, auto update select playlist, you will choose auto update selected playlist and then pick the playlist you want on it.

  • Upgrading to new nano

I currently own a 3rd gen iPod nano and I am planing on buying a new 5th gen iPod nano. The question I have is that I am planing on selling my 3rd gen to a coworker, what do I have to do to the 3rd gen to make it possible for them to use without any trouble? I have also downloaded some games onto the 3rd gen, is there any way to save those and transfer to the new nano?

    Hello ccluney,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Before giving the iPod to your coworker, I would restore it via iTunes. Restoring the iPod will erase all the music and files from your iPod and set it back to its default settings. That means, when he or she firsts goes to use it, it will just be like getting one of out of the box. Your co-worker will be able to go through the setup process and sync whatever and how he or she wishes.
Here are instructions on how to restore your iPod.
    [Restoring iPod to factory settings|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339]
As to the games, do you not have them in your iTunes library anymore? If they are still in your library, you can sync them to as many ipods that are connected with your computer are you wish. If not, where did they go? Did you fail to maintain a backup?
    Hope this helps.

  • Need help transferring itunes library from old computer to new laptop

    Hello,
I recently purchased a new laptop and am having trouble getting my library to transfer to my new laptop, i followed this step by step process http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329?viewlocale=en_US and in the end ended up with no music on my ipod and no music in the itunes library on my new computer...
So then i went into Itunes on the new computer and clicked import library under File, so i found the Music folder that i had transferred over and it imported the music but all my playlist were not there, just songs. So i ended up syncing my ipod back to my old computer so i would get all the songs and playlist back on as it was originally before this whole process...
My desktop runs XP while my new laptop runs Vista Ultimate w/ SP1 home edition, dont know if this matters...
So not sure where i should go from here, i have already Authorized my laptop with the itunes store , i was thinking of uninstalling Itunes on my laptop and starting over from scratch, will this help?
BTW when i did the original transfer i used my Ipod as the hard drive as it had plenty of storage room left on it, i do have access to a 250GB external HD i was thinking of using that and trying that to transfer the library...
So if anyone can tell me how to transfer my Itunes library from old comp to new laptop it would be greatly appreciated...

The method you used should work if followed exactly.
The key points are - is your music all together? It must all be in the iTunes Music folder in the iTunes folder.
When you copy the iTunes folder to the iPod you get the library database with your playlists and the iTunes Music folder containing the music files.
Since you had trouble doing this with the iPod, why not try copying your iTunes folder to the external drive.
The method is identical the one for the iPod except you leave out the iPod specific stuff.
You install iTunes on the new PC, then you drag the newly created iTunes folder out the Music folder to the desktop, then you copy the iTunes folder from the EHD into Music, replacing the one you dragged out.
When you have done that, you need to check that your account has full control of your iTunes folder - Vista is fussy about that - you will not be able to edit track info if you don't have full control.

  • Can't move songs from library folder to new Nano

Just got a Nano and want to load songs to play for my newborn baby girl. I have an existing iTunes library of mp3s - When I try to move some into new playlists on my Nano they don't transfer. Sometimes I get that circle with a slash, other times when dragging them over the new Nano playlist folders they seem drop-abble but dont copy over.
Is there something I'm not understanding about copy-protection.
Anyone's guidence, suggestions or help is most appreciated!!

The easiest way to get tracks off your iPod will be to search VersionTracker for "iPod". You'll find a number of utilities that can transfer your tracks and your playlists from your iPod back to your PC.
It's also possible to do this manually, but the procedure is rather involved. If you're interested, though, see this thread:
    MacMuse: Computer crashed
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Discussions page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic before you post a question.
