My little sisters' ipod 5th Gen was stolen while she was at school. How would I be able to track it? I've tried logging into icloud but it says icloud wasn't set up on the device.

Is it possible to track your Ipod (5thGen) if a locator app was not installed and icloud was not set up?

No. You will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
- Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
- There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.

hi i need some help my little sisters ipod  1st generation 8gb was stolen from my mothers car last night and i dont have anyway of getthing the serial number plz help me

If you have a backup in iTunes you can just hover the mouse over the backup to see the serial number.
Open iTunes and mouse over a device backup:
Open Preferences in iTunes. (In Mac OS X, choose iTunes > Preferences. In Windows, choose Edit > Preferences.)
    Click the Devices tab.
Position the mouse over a backup to display the phone number, serial number, and IMEI or MEID of the backed-up iPhone.

  • Is it possible to restore Gamecenter after update and restore?? After update, tried logging into Gamecenter and it says that the user name is already taken. Yeah, I know..... by me!!!

One of my kids ipods needed an update. It wouldn't let me do it via the itouch (like the other 2 itouches did). I had to connect to the PC, sync, update and then restore. Once I did, the apps could be downloaded again via icloud (which wasn't on the itouch before) but progress on games that were through Gamecenter did not transfer. Tried logging into Gamecenter and it states the user name is already taken. Yeah, I know it's already taken, BY MY DAUGHTER!!! Apparently she has a dragon game app that she manages through Gamecenter that she has worked her way to level 22 and now it is all gone. It wants her to restart from level 1. I know this isn't life or death and not like losing work data etc. But to a 9 year old who has spent $40 of her own money on gems, coins etc....... this is the end of the world. LOL. I do want to try to help her, I just don't know how.

Thank you. After posting I started to search for Backflip studios and found this support id. I had meanwhile created a new nickname, very similar to the original one, and requested that they swap the advanced world to the new id. I sent this last Saturday evening. This morning (so effectively on their first workday after my request!) I received a kind response from Rachael that they had swapped the parks. Like your daughter my son couldn't believe his eyes. Thank you for your post, original and reply, I hope others will find it too and that Rachael can keep up such excellent support. It means a lot...

  • 2 yrs worth of music on my ipod nano 5th gen just vanished while I was trying to add four new tracks.

Most of the music I've put on my ipod nano 5th gen in the last 2 years just vanished while I was trying to add four new tracks. Stuff from before that seems to be still there (I add stuff manually, not sync, and the ipod wasn't full). It was a bit glitchy as soon as I plugged it in to update - threw up a few error messages, decided to verify my ipod a couple of times, After that, once or twice itunes seemed to lose the ipod completely, although as far as the laptop was concerned it was definitely still connected, so i went for the 'safe to remove hardware' option and reconnected...
I'm guessing somewhere in the midst of whatever was going on there, something got confused or corrupted, but I have no way to tell what... Ipod seems to think it is using less of its capacity now, but I don't know whether to believe it or not!
Can I get this stuff back? It's not just stuff I bought from itunes, either - things I put on from cds have gone too. I have all the music either backed up or on cds, but I'm not in the same country as my cds right now - also rebuilding all of my playlists and trying to remember what went where is going to be a pain! Is there a quicker way than just doing it all over again?

  • IPod 5th gen won't turn on. was fully chargd last night and this morning it's staying off. how do i save it? (my home button doesn't work)

it's also not being recognized by my laptop and itunes

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
Ignore the reset and when it says place the iPod in recovery mode
Place the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs:
    For PC
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    or
    http://joshuabailey1997.wordpress.com/2010/09/02/recboot-v1-3/
    If necessary:
    Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot
    and
    RecBoot tip
RecBoot may have problems on 64X windows, then try:
Tenorshare ReiBoot – Enter & Exit iPhone, iPad, iPod Recovery Mode with a Single Click
    For MAC or PC
    The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella
    Installs blootware on PC too
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer

  • My ipod 5th gen is connected to an old ip address, how can i change it?

By the way: everyone elses phones are connected to the same wifi but all have a different ip address then mine.

What do you mean by reset the router?
Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tends to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • So my phone was stolen while I was in France and it was in airplane mode. Any way I can report the serial number and possibly get it back?

I can't use Find My iPhone clearly because there was no internet connected, I'm back in the states now, I was just hoping since the serial number is unique that I could report it and if it pops up anywhere that I could possibly get my phone back. I can't contact Apple Support because it's outside the 1 year service coverage.

The serial number is indeed unique.  But neither Apple nor any other agency (except possibly your local law enforcement) tracks these.
Here is how to report it:

And here is what else you can do:

  • Facetime- How do I get it to work?  I've tried calling my iPhone, but it doesn't ring?  I see that the facetime connected somewhat to my phone, but it doesn't ring or allow me to answer.

I recently purchased Facetime for my iMac.  I tried to test it out by calling my iPhone, but it doesn't ring at all.  When looking at my call history on my cell, it shows that I missed Facetime calls, but no vibration, no ring, nothing.  I then tried to call from my iPhone and still no real connection.  Any ideas?

Is the iPhone connected to a WiFi network? FaceTime only works if the iPhone is connected to a WiFi network. Also, it must be enabled in Settings -> Phone

  • What can I do when my iPod was stolen while in flight mode?

    Hello,
so my hand bag with my mobile, my camera, some other things and my iPod touch 2G was stolen while it was in flight mode and stupid as I was, after restoring it and updating the iOs to 4.3.1 or so, I didn't install "find my iPhone" Is there any chance to find it via the registered serial number?
Does iTunes save/send the IP-number when attached to a new computer? And if not, why doesn't Apple provide this possibility? It would contribute to the "Find my iPhone" app.
Besides this I have set my iPod to only work with a 4-digit security code, but I've read on the web that it's quiet easy to remove the code and that then it's quiet easy to accsses all the data on the iPod
I'd be very thankful for any help given on this issue, as all my credit and debit cards were in that handbag, my id card, my drivers license, a (to me) very important lucky charm given to me by a person I love and miss so much (that's the biggest loss to me) and the iPod is the only trace I could find.
    Thank you.

    There is not.

It does not.  Only Apple knows as to why they chose not to implement such a feature.

It is easy to remove the passcode, but it requires the user to restore the device to factory settings in iTunes, which would in turn remove all data from the device. It's actually quite difficult to get at data stored on an iPod with the passcode enabled.  You would need to be pretty knowledgeable with the device and how they work in order to obtain any of the data.

The only thing you can really do is change any and all passwords to accounts you may have used or set up on the device for security reasons.  Other than that, I'm afraid you are out of luck.

  • IPod 5th gen 30gig won't charge and isn't recognized by iTunes

I recently replaced the battery in my iPod 5th gen because I thought that was the problem.  This fixed things temporaly and my iPod turned on for this first time in a long time.  However, now it won't charge or hook up to the computer.  I think this may have been the problem all along.
The charging port seems to be in good condition and pretty clean.  I have tried resetting it and resetting it while connected to itunes.  I also disconnected and reconnected the new battery.  I left it plugged in for sometime but it hasn't charged.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.  I really have no idea what the problem is at this point.
    Thanks

I suspect that you have a completely dead battery.
i got this ipod about a year ago
If you mean 11 months, a battery replacement is under warranty but $30 shipping and handling. If you mean 13 months, a battery replacement is $59 + $7 shipping.

Take your original proof of purchase from an Apple authorized retailer (or Apple Store) and the police report, make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and they should be able to help you.

That is so dumb...Apple is the best and most techinological company IN THE WORLD and they don't have the time to invent something like that? HUH? All they are worried about is making the "Worlds best Phone" and they can't take the time out to help their users or anybody that has their products. All they have is "Find mt Iphone" Well they should step up and do something else to help people like me out. Find a way to turn it on and you can find it or find a way to turn it on remotely.
    Thank you for your replys

  • I have an old ipod (5th gen) and I downloaded itunes to my toshiba computer. It says my ipod was formatted by mcintosh and must be restored before i can use on windows. is there a way to transfer my music? ty

I have an old ipod (5th gen) and I downloaded itunes to my toshiba computer. It says my ipod was formatted by mcintosh and must be restored before i can use on windows. is there a way to transfer my music? ty

Not without installing additional software on your computer.  The problem is that your Windows PC cannot read the Mac's disk format.  If the iPod was previously used on a Mac, its storage uses the Mac's disk format.  The Restore process reformats the iPod's disk for use with Windows, but this erases its current content.
There are third-party products that allow Windows to read the Mac's disk format.  For example
    http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive
However, even if your computer is able to read the Mac's disk format, iTunes cannot be used to transfer song files from iPod to computer (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  But there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
So, you may be able to do it by first making the iPod's disk readable on a Windows PC, and then using a method (that is not iTunes) to transfer its song files to your computer's drive.  After the song files are on your computer, you can add them to the iTunes library.
