do i click yes or no ,if i click yes it has the option of using web'n'walk but do i need to use my t-mobile internet.
i thought it uses gps???
can anyone help me on this
thankyou

Firstly I need to know whether you are on a generous data plan and don't mind associated cost of downloading a few kb's of data frequently or want to stop it although this can have a detrimental effect on how long it takes to lock on to position.
If you go to Menu > Settings > Application settings > Positioning > Positioning methods - if you want no data or no cost if applicable only ENABLE "Integrated GPS" as positional method.
It is the "Assisted GPS" feature that requires a network access point found in 'Positioning server use" which maybe Automatic, Auto. in home network, Always ask or Disabled. It would normally pick whichever network access point has highest priority in Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Settings > Destinations > Internet.

  • My Droid Ultra cannot get a GPS fix nor a 4G signal

For the past couple of months my Droid Ultra cannot get a GPS fix or a 4G LTE signal. I've tried the following:
    1. Downloaded and ran GPS Status to attempt to get a fix and clear the GPS data.
    2. Start up in Safe Mode.
    3. Check for Software Updates.
    4. Re-seated SIM card.
Before I'm forced to do a full factory reset (not even sure that will fix it), is there anything else I can do to see how to get either or both of these functions working again? Thanks!

Thanks for the swift reply Ruth!
I don't recall any major changes a couple of months ago.
I checked Network Mode and it was set to "Global". I switched it over to LTE/CDMA but still only get 3G.
The GPS issue seems to affect all apps that use it. I initially noticed the problem using the navigation tool on Maps (by Google). I've also been able to get a fix using Waze, GPS Test and GPS Status & Toolbox.
In Settings>Location I have set to ON and the following
    E911 Only
    Mode: High accuracy
    Location Services: Google Location Reporting

  • Nokia 1020 - how can I tell camera has a GPS fix?

In the 808's Camera Pro app, you got a "GPS" symbol appearing to indicate the phone had a GPS fix and the EXIF data would contain the location.
On the 1020, I have both the native app and the "better" one (not sure of the name) which I always use, but I can't see an obvious indication.

If you read that EuroGA link I posted, you will see there are ways to do A-GPS without mobile data.
You need a functioning SIM card although it probably doesn't need a valid account, so e.g. a PAYG SIM with no money on it should work (such cards do work for SMS to/from the cellular company for example). The cell towers transit their lat/long continuously, apparently.
Whether any current model phone uses this, I have no idea and neither has anybody I have ever spoken to (who knows the subject).
SUPL data is not that small, especially as Android devices send the SIM card details covertly to google, encrypted into the request
    http://mobilesociety.typepad.com/mobile_life/2014/08/supl-reveals-my-identity-and-location-to-google...
Many thanks for that PDF. On page 15 it has some brief answers, but it doesn't indicate whether any particular phone uses 3GPP and/or SUPL. I am also surprised that 3GPP requires a specific implementation i.e. not all cellular towers may have it.

  • Can't get a GPS fix on my N95

Hi all, I can't get a GPS fix on my current position. it is locked in berlin, Germany (where I have never been). I live in england. updated firmware toay that didnt work. walked around in the open trying to get a satelite lock, the best I got was five white bars. no black ones. any help would be much appreciated!

    Hi patriciaanne3
You might like to look at this press release from Nokia a couple of days ago: http://www.nokia.com/A4136001?newsid=1140680
In version 12.0.013 you have an added feature in the menu with Network connection, internal GPS and external GPS, there is a fourth category A-GPS = Assisted GPS.
This enables N95 with internal GPS to establish position indoors, which is not currently the situation in earlier software versions.
"Assisted GPS, or A-GPS, is a technology that uses an assistance server to cut down the time needed to determine a location using GPS" You are using the power of a mainframe computer to cut down the number crunching needed to process position of four satellites needed for three dimensional position for first fix (TTFF= Time to First Fix) As mentioned in Nokia press release there is also scope for network provider to use mast location as adjunct to speed this process.
If you are near a WLAN of course this can provide network connection for assistance server or you can use GPRS as appropriate.

  • N97 Mini can't get a GPS fix on Ovi Maps but insta...

Yeh, well I got my N97 Mini yesterday and it instantly fixes on a satellite on Google maps but  when I try Ovi maps or the positioning app (Menu> Apps> Location> GPS Data> Positioning), it doesn't connect at all! I'd really like to be able to use Ovi so what can I do?
    -HR.
    N97 Mini- RM 555- v11.0.045
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Google maps uses the cellphone mast and the internet to determine your position, apart from the GPS on your device.
On Ovi Maps or Positioning app, have you configured it to have A-GPS activated? Furthermore, Google Maps is fast in getting a "map" because it only downloads maps on the fly, of maps of the area on screen, while Ovi Maps is trying to download the maps for an entire country.
Go to Menu>Apps>Location>Positioning>Positioning Methods. Make sure you have A-GPS and network based turned on (you can use it turned off if you want, but turning them on will make the initial fix faster). In Positioning Server, make sure that the server address is supl.nokia.com, and the access point is defined.
The first ever fix from a phone can take anywhere from 5min to 45min, depending on various factors. Also, make sure that you have downloaded the maps for your country into your phone.

  • With iOS no GPS-Fix

After updating my 3GS from 3.1.3 to 4.0, i don't get no more gps fix. What's up?

I'm getting very interested in GPS problems across the iPhone range. Ive got a 3GS and the GPS satellite fix stopped working completely recently. A fix identified using jailbreak and an ssh terminal tells me a good proportion of these problems are with locationd, the gps process in the iPhone, or more accurately, I think that it's possible for some of the data this process uses to become corrupted; the "fix" involves stopping the process and deleting the data it uses. On restart, locations is forced to rebuild the data, and everything then works.
I suspect this is true across the iPhone range - and worse, I think that the backup function in iTunes actually backs up the bad data. Thus, when you restore from backup, you actually put the problem back in! Either that, or GPS cache data isnt deleted when the iphone is restored.
What we need is an option in iTunes, or the iPhone settings, to clear GPS ephemeris and related data down and restart locationd: this will save apple a fortune in support at genius bars, as I reckon everyone who is getting a replacement is just getting a reblanked refurbished iPhone with no hardware fixes - they could be turning them around in the back of the stores!
We need to get some group pressure together to get an answer out of apple on this really - they do seem to have an approach which has much in common with the way the UK banks were dealing with overdraft fees - if you complained, they refunded just to keep you quiet and make sure you didn't shout. If this issue is an underlying gps driver or application demon issue, they should give us a way to work around the issue.

  • Gps fix issue

for some reason today I started to have an issue trying to get a gps fix.  I was in my car with the X in the dock and a clear sky view.  Any hints on how to resolve this.  I tried shut down and restart, battery pull *228 updates.  finally I let it go and it took nearly 30 mins to get a fix.  In the past I have had a fix in under a minute.  thanks for the help.

I for one don't fully understand the need for the 2 gps settings. Can someone technical explain the settings?
    in a non-technical way....
Your phone has a GPS receiver just like a TomTom or a Magellan but it also can use your surrounding cellphone towers to provide location.  All cell phones, if not equiped with a GPS receiver can "triangulate"(picture a triangle and you are in the middle)  a general location based on the cell towers that your phone is receiving signals from(instead of GPS satellites)  I've read they are accurate withing a few hundred meters.  Much like when you watch law and order and they get a "fix" on where someone is when they call from their cell.
Your location with the GPS satellites is accurate within a couple feet.
Assisted GPS will use both satellite signals and near by cell towers to give your location.  It can be useful inside structures or in congested cities where there are a ton of buildings blocking your satellite reception.  Or, most usefully, on those crapy rainy cloudy stormy days that you just can't pull a satellite signal.
That's my non technical explination as well as I understand it.
regular GPS is default, so you shouldnt have to even worry about it.

  • 5230 GPS fix problem (have gps signal but no gps f...

    hi
    i have a nokia 5230
    software version V20.0.005 / 23-03-2010
    custom version 20.0.005.315.02 / 29-04-2010
    type RM-588
    not updated
CODE 0597862 - Latest available software for your device Version 20.0.005
    GPS positioning methods:
A-GPS = OFF (I dont have/dont want data traffic charge)
    IntGPS = ON
    BlueGPS = OFF
    Network Based = ON
    Positioning server use = disable
    Software used:
Default nokia gps applications - GPS positioning (not the ovi map)
Nokia sports tracker v3.50(0) (S60 3.1) 2-08-2010 (mostly for GPS logging)
    Garmin XT
The problem - GPS fix is taking (sometimes) very long periods from 1 - 5 hours or in same cases it does not make a GPS fix. Other times (about 25% of tries) it calculates GPS fix in a few minutes (1-15min).
I use the GPS only outdoors within open sky and hill/forest (not in urban, tall buildings). Usualy is clear sky or clouds, but not storms.
The Satellite info page displays me the satelite signals, and usually I have about 6-11 satelites bars and from them about 4-7 with more then 75% signal. It is very frustrating to have gps satelite signal and not have a gps fix. This is obvios a software related problem not a weak gps signal.
DOES anybody had this issue and know how to solve it? I suspect a firmware bug... but I dont really know.
    Thank you.

I have a 4s i upad te to ios7 and the location (GPS) is not working, mapa is working, but cant find places or tell me my location...  Can ana One help me ????

    Hello James,
The flashing WLAN light means activity (data getting transferred). Try disconnecting all your devices and check whether the light is still flashing or disconnect the router from internet and do the check.
Do you have your SSID as linksys or the default one? If your neighbor has the same SSID, then traffic could result from your neighbor's one. Try changing your SSID and password. Make your security WPA/WPA2.
    Hope this helps,
    Thanks

  • Advance Frame when location (GPS) changes on PDA

    Hi Guys,
I have a little more advanced question relating to one of the
    showcases on adobe's sites:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/devices/articles/invisible_ideas.html
I am basically planning something similar, but want to start
smaller. I am concerned how to get flash lite 2.1 (running on
Windows Mobile 5 device) to advance to the next flash movie frame
when a certain location (GPS data) is entered. I do understand that
I would need a small C++ program running in the background (as per
adobe showcase), but I do not have experience there.
Has anyone experience with that / ideas / done that before?
Also, if someone has a solution done already, I would be willing to
pay a small amount for it.
    Looking to hear your input!
    Cheers,
    Sebastian

    Hi,
well, this should be still ok. I have selected in that area to use the standard workspace settings. You can easily test it:
    Vector vect = new Vector();
    String s_Test="test";
    vect.add(s_Test);
Ok, it will cause an error if you compile that with the 1.1.8. So if you add this into your code, change the JRE environment, you should get an error message at compile time. If you change the last line to
    vect.addElement(s_Test);
the error should go away. This is the simple test I could think of, if the compilation with 1.1.8 is working fine.
Once you can compile it without errors, you can go back to JDK1.5 for example in the JRE. This is fine. Even if you create the WAR file with another JDK then 1.1.8, as long as the instructions are 1.1.8 safe, it is fine.
Have you restarted the PDA after the deployment? So is the WAR file unpacked?
I have written a blog, how to debug a PDA MI with eclipse. Does this help you any further?
Hope this helps to solve the issue.
    Regards,
    Oliver

  • Delayed GPS fix after BELLE update

    Hello
after i updated my N8  to nokia BELLE ,i noticed that the GPS fix is incredibly delayed .or  there is no fix even in opened areas.
    can any one help please.

    20 to 30 minutes ? DD
After travelling thousands of miles or not using GPS for a month or so it might take about 5 to 10 minutes for getting a first fix with integrated GPS only. All following fixes should be done within 2 minutes absolute maximum.
I did not see any GPS slowdowns after upgrading to Belle. It's all like it has been before.

  • Very Slow Gps Fix On E71?

hi guys just this week i bought a nokia e71 with sygic mcguider preinstalled on it i updated the fw right away so i dont know if its got anything to do with the current fw v200 so everytime when i start up sygic i have to wait approx 7min for the gps to have a fix is this a common issue with nokia e71 or sygic? or maybe there is a solution for this please help info i have assisted gps, integrated gps and network based on.
    Nokia Lumia 1020 + Sony Xperia Z1

A-GPS if activated in your phone GPS fix is instantaneous. For A-GPS you need to activate GPRS and go to
tools->General->Positioning->Positioning Methods->Click on Assisted GPS, Integrated &Network based.
Access point You enter your Service provider
    Server address-supl.nokia.com
No close this and go to GPS->Maps->Maps->Settings->Internet->gon online at start
There is a small charge for gprs use. But this is very little since GPRS is used ONLY for initial GPS fix only and then GPRS will be inactive.
The success of this method depends on GPRS strength of your operator. I found this is working with some operators but is not working with few operators.

  • 6220 won't get GPS fix after S/W upgrade

I upgraded my 6220 S/W, which all went fine. But now I cannot get  GPS fix, I am sure it worked before the upgrade. Does anybody else have this and any ideas how to fix it ? Thanks.

Just give your phone some time cause generally the phone data including the maps cache gets cleared or rested... For each time you get a fix the next time you will get a faster fix till you reach a certain limit and this is all subject to weather conditions. So just try getting fixes no matter how long it takes and take help of Assisted GPS.

  • E66 no GPS fix

    Hi there
When I first got my E66 it would get a GPS fix within a few seconds if I was in an open outdoor area; now I get bored waiting for it to find a single satellite. My licence for turn-based navigation has expired, but it should still find a GPS fix, shouldn't it? I seem to remember having a similar problem some time ago when I changed SIM cards before transferring my Maps licence to the new SIM. I've tried doing a hard reset on the phone, updating to the latest firmware and installing the latest version of Maps.
Anyone got any ideas, comments, links etc.?
