My location settings - Note 3

On my one app, weather bug, I have it set to display my current location for the weather, so it changes as I travel to / from work.  However, when I get to work in Twinsburg Ohio, it is showing "Walloon Lake MI" as my location which is probably a good 600 miles north of where I am.  I tried to change my phone setting to determine location by phone GPS instead of network based, in case for whatever reason network based meant this Walloon Lake MI location (like a corporate thing or something?)  I've added Twinsburg OH as a weather location but I have to click to change to that, and it will eventually revert back to Walloon Lake when the phone screen times out.

Try Settings>Privacy>Location Services and switch it on.  You will see a list of apps that you turn on/off for location services.

  • Trusted Location Settings not working after windows 7 installation

    Hi All,
Recently, all the work stations in my office was upgraded to windows 7. I work on SAP Xcelsius dashboards whose output is in flash and it requires trusted location settings to be enabled in order to view the dashboard in any browser.
In one of these dashboards i am using Google map plugin from Centigon which is in turn referring to a Shape File (for drawing the outlines in a map) placed in  server. Previous to OS upgradation these dashboards were working fine and we were able to see the shape file layer on the map placed in the dashboard, once the location where the dashboard was added to the trusted location settings. But post upgradation the dashboard is working in some of the work stations, but for some it doesn't work even if you add the file as well as folder to the trusted location settings.
The Flash Player in most of these systems are the latest which is 11.6.602.180 and in some of them its a previous version from the latest. Please help me in figuring out what could be the issue, since due to this i am not able to circulate the dashboard to the users.
    Thanks in Advance
    Arjun

Hi: I don't know what model wireless card your model uses, but that is easy enough to determine. Please do the following and I will post the link to the wireless card driver you need... Go to the device manager, find the Other Devices category, and click on the Network Controller needing drivers. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the network controller window. Now you see a Property drop down list and it is defaulted to Device Description. Drop down on that and select the second item on the list (Hardware ID's).  Post the top string of characters that begin with PCI\VEN.

  • HT204003 Passbook is not listed under Privacy Location Settings.

I was trying to add a amusement park ticket (for King's Island) to my Passbook.  The pass comes up, gives me the option to choose "Add", but then it doesn't add it to Passbook.  When researching possible reasons why, I noticed a setting mentioned under >Privacy>Location Settings.  When I go to this area, in my settings, Passbook is not listed.  I checked with two friends (one has a 5, the other a 4S) and both show Passbook listed in this area.  I tried calling Apple Tech Support, and the person I spoke with had no idea what I was talking about, after explaining it for ten minutes.  I am assuming that not having this setting is somehow causing the issue with my ability to add the ticket to my Passbook - but Passbook cannot be deleted and "reinstalled" and I have the most current version of iOS6.  Help!  (NOTE: I tried the fixes I saw online - most dealing with the Restrictions settings.  My settings are identical to my friends, who both checked the Restrictions settings as well.)

It may not be your computer telling you this, it is probably the company providing the shows to you over the Internet. If that is the case, no setting on your computer can change it because the media company is going by your network address (IP address), which is where your Internet modem (cable or DSL) connects to the outside Internet. If the location of your Internet connection appears to be outside the US (even if it is mistake), media companies that distribute shows under contracts with geographical restrictions may lock you out.
If you use a service like a VPN service, you may have the ability to use IP addresses from other countries so that you can appear to be connecting from there. But it takes some setting up.

  • Location settings/GPS can't change the options - used to be able to!

I've read another thread with the same problem and people are saying you must've been connected to something with GPS - I haven't, nobody in my house has a phone or anything else that connects to GPS so it's not possible.
I was trying to get this new Facebook Places working and did something that seemed to work for a few 8520 users - Update the OS through the Desktop Software. I updated to the latest one and when I go Options > Advanced Options > Location Settings (It used to be GPS Settings or something similar, not Location Settings) I used to get GPS none and be able to switch my Location Services off and on. Since updating, I only get GPS none and Location Services off, no option to change either.
BB Maps used to find my location fine, Foursquare was good at finding very nearby locations so it must work using something other than GPS.  I've updated everything only to try and get bloody FB Places working and it's not even worth it, I can't even use BB Maps now!
Is there anything I can do? I've tried re-installing maps and Foursquare but neither can find my location anymore so I believe it was something to do with the update.

The Curve 8520 does not have GPS so that's where the problem lies.
I hope that clears things up.
    - If my response has helped you, please click "Options" beside my post and mark it as solved. Clicking the "thumbs up" icon near the bottom of my response would also be appreciated.

  • Network locations settings transfer from 10.5.8 to 10.6.2

    Hi,
I migrated my previous Mac Book Pro 15 under Mac os 10.5.8 under my new Mac Book Pro 13 under 10.6.2.
I migrated from portable mac to new ones since 10.3 and got my Network Locations settings migrated as well. With Snow Leopard I did not get those settings migrated.
However as I am very often at different places, I just have a very large list of locations settings.
I can not find any indications on how to export/import them. The preferences.xml file that contains this information up to 10.5 seems not to exist anylonger.
Any equivalent or working procedure to advise?
    Thanks a lot.

You have to pay to go from where you are to Snow Leopard. Then you can get Lion (pay again!) Or you can order the new USB drive version (pay again - either way, you pay!) and load Lion directly w/o any of the other updates. Snow Leopard is $30 + Lion is $30 = $60, or get the USB stick for $69.

  • Mail & location settings question

Can I customise mail to change its Outgoing Mail Server settings in conjunction with the Location settings in Network Prefs?
I am always using my PB in different locations, while the Locations Prefs serve me well, I find I have to remember to manually change Mail's Outgoing Mail Server prefs.
I do use Postfix Enabler but not all ISP's allow sending of mail without going through their server.
    Chris.

Location On is for gps on the phone. Programs like weather will take the most advantage of this. I recommend keeping it on although its not a huge deal if its off. Battery power will be slightly less with it on.
Google location settings are for local results when searching Google services. No real gps capability but it will give you that pizza places name down the block first when you search the name pizza. Get the concept?
Finally, I use the WiFi, airplane mode, gps off once in a while. Maybe you also want to put the system tools widget on a homescreen. It's handy, and when your concerned about energy its nice to do a couple taps and have it fixed.

  • Apple 10.4 managed clients dock settings not working

I  have an issues with  3 or 4 of my 10.4 clients all are managed by WGM on an apple 10.5 server.  The I have managed dock settings on all apple clients are getting the proper dock settings however I have 3 or 4 clients that are not.  The clients that are not getting the dock settings are in the correct computer group.  And I don't see any of the clients dedicated in the computer group.  And suggestions or tips would be welcome help.

THAT WORKED and all is back to normal.
By the way I did not lose any of the icons on my dock either. All the apps light up under the icon and they now mimimize correctly!!
    Thank you very much capfred!!!

Try deleting com.apple.dock.plist from the preference folder located in your user Library.
You can open the hidden library in Finder's menubar,  Finder > Go > hold the option key down > select Library.
Edit: you'll have to add back program icons to the dock that you moved there.

  • Dock settings not always appliying

On several of my network accounts, the dock settings I have set up in MCX aren't applying when the user logs in. I have everything removed on the user (forget exactly why I did this, instead of simply not managing the user, but I was having extra dock items appear such as SysPrefs when I didn't want them sometimes) and then I have both group and computer group settings configured. However, sometimes only the Finder will appear. It's been a while since I've actually seen it, but I get reports of "oh last week none of my dock icons were there..." Why they couldn't tell me THEN, I'll never know. When I have seen it, often logging out and back in corrects it but sometimes it doesn't.
Any clue why they would load inconsistently like this?
XServe running Server 10.6.3, 30-odd iMacs running 10.6.3 (although had the issue with 10.6.2 server/client as well).

  • My Time capsule location is not correct.  It thinks it is in Alabama.

My Time Capsule location is not correct.  It thinks it is in Alabama.  It is in Tennessee.

Was the Time Capsule or your Mac ever located in Alabama?
Where are your ISP offices located?
Have you tried resetting the Time Capsule back to factory default settings and then setting it up again?  If yes, it may take Apple's location services servers 4-6 weeks to pick up the new location.

  • My Location is not working with GPS

My Location does not update when trying to use GPS or VZW Location but updates fine with Google Location services.  It's not a problem with locating (seemingly), but that the phone won't even recognize that an alternative location service (to Google's) is selected at all.  This occurs with Maps and Weather (don't use other geo locating apps).
    Thoughts anyone?

kriegeritaville, I understand your concern. This can definitely be an issue when you are trying to locate an address and the GPS wont lock on to your location. It can be time consuming and frustrating. I performed some research in regards to your issue and found there can be many factors for why the GPS isn't working properly. Things that can be a factor are the area you located in, terrain, if your inside a building, software, or other applications on your device. Just like being inside can affect your call signal, this can be the same for GPS. If you search the internet, you will find that different android customers have noticed that when they have issues with the GPS, it is because they are inside or other applications are attempting to use the GPS for their location services. Sometimes other applications can interfere with the GPS locking on to your location. I'm happy your GPS still locates and directs you to the correct address but I do recommend removing apps your not using or turning off the location services for apps you don't need them for. All applications are different and you will have to go to the menu/settings to turn location based services off for those apps. YOu can also put your phone into safe mode, which temporarily disables all applications that have been installed via the Android Market. Performing this step can help determine whether a 3rd party application is the cause of an Operating System / Application issue. I listed steps below.
Steps to put phone into safe mode:
    Press and hold Power button.
    Select Restart.
    Select Restart.
When the second HTC logo appears, press and hold the Volume down key+Optical joystick.
Continue to hold the Volume down key+Optical joystick until Safe mode appears in the lower-left of the unlock screen.
This may take up to 30 seconds.
While in Safe Mode, remove the most recently installed applications.
Power cycle the device then attempt to use the device.
If the device works properly, install applications one at a time to identify the application causing the problem.
     Steps to disable safe mode:.
    Press and hold Power button.
    Select Restart.
    Select Restart.
Steps to ensure your location services our turned on for your GPS:
From the home screen, touch the applications tab (located in the lower-left).
    Touch Settings.
    Touch Location.
    Touch VZW Location Services.
GPS / VZW Location Services is enabled if a green check mark is present.
    If prompted, touch OK.
    Touch Standalone GPS Services.
Standalone GPS Services is enabled if a green check mark is present.
    If prompted, touch OK.
    Touch Google Location Services.
GPS / Google Location Services is enabled if a green check mark is present.
    If prompted, touch OK.
    If prompted, select Agree.

  • Location settings change by themselves

I am trying to set up several "locations" so I can quickly change configurations (mostly between being wired-only or wireless-only to I can test various devices).
For example, I have locations "Automatic" (where Ethernet and Wireless are enabled), "Ethernet 192.168.1.12 only," and "Wireless only." I set up one location, then a second, and so on, each time clicking "Apply" and locking the changes. However, the settings do not stick. For example, in the Ethernet-only locations, I have turned off Airport, but after turning on Airport in a different location, Airport might spontaneously come on in the Ethernet location. Often, the location I have selected in the popup menu *changes by itself* as I try to enable or disable services in some other location! It's spooky.
In summary, I cannot get my location settings to stick. They change after I have Applied and Locked them, and sometimes the location itself changes on its own.
I have searched this group, and found nobody else describing this problem.
What's going on? How can I get the location settings to stick?

I too can't get my network settings to "stick".
I assumed that Location Services simply couldn't do that. But it makes so much sense to have location services control the network & printer settings (and even use the network the Mac can see to prompt a change in location).
So I'll add my voice to your question.
Anyone know if location services can affect network settings?
